Mr. James Kolstad In response to your review, first of all we try very hard to accommodate our customer to comply with Emission and Inspections requirements as required by the state. When you first arrive your request and emission and inspection which was done and the safety failed due to the following: 1993 Ford F150 XLT - (24 yr. Old Vehicle) 1. Both Front Lens were very cloudy and FAILED - Headlamps too dim - UHP Violation Section _7__ page __28_ 2. Iii_ Effective 9-27-17 States: Reject when: I. Headlight aim deviates more than four inches in any direction. ii. A headlamp is less than 22 inches or greater than 54 inches measured from the ground to the center of the low beam. iii. A headlamp fails to light properly. iv. A headlamp projects other than white light. v. A headlamp is not marked USDOT approved. 2. Right Front Engine Motor Mount broken FAILED- UHP Violation Section _10 page _42 JB1_ Effective 9-27-17 States: When inspecting the mounts of a vehicle, the inspector shall: 1. Check all mount components, including motor mounts, transmission mounts, and drive train mounts. a. Advise when: I. Heat cracks are present. b. Reject when: I. any mount bolts or nuts are broken, loose, or missing. ii. The rubber cushion is separated from the metal plate of any mount. iii. There is a split through the rubber cushion. iv. The engine or transmission is sagging to the point where the mount bottoms out or there is engine misalignment to the point of a drive train component compromise. v. Fluid-filled mounts are leaking (leakage must be verified from the mount. 3. Right Side Mirror Assembly held with Tape FAILED UHP Violation Section 10 page 42 k1 Effective 9-27-17 States: When inspecting the exterior rearview mirrors of a vehicle, the inspector shall: 1. Check exterior mirrors from the driver's position for a clear and reasonably unobstructed view to the rear. a. Verify one driver-side mirror that meets OEM standards is equipped on a vehicle manufactured after January 1968. b. Verify one passenger-side mirror is equipped on a vehicle with tinted windows or an obstructed rear view. c. Reject when: I. the required mirrors are not present. 4. No Battery Tie down FAILED-- UHP Violation Section 8 F Pages 34 Effective 9-27-17 Check for battery -securement. a. Reject when: I. a battery is not properly secured. Upon installation of the engine motor mount we did notice that your engine oil pan was rusted, being the fact this truck is 24 years old, it is expected to be rusted especially with snow in Utah. We did show you how bad it was rusted that you put your own finger through it and said we did this even though it is high rusted on the bottom of the vehicle. You were informed the oil pan replaced would cost $130.00 and labor $495.00 per your invoice # 12719. We do not lift vehicles by jacking up a car we have car lifts for that to perform an engine mount change. You stated that the vehicle was checked before you brought in but In fact we did find the following items that we informed you on such as: 1. Serpentine belt cracked 2. Both front and rear Differentials seals are leaking fluid. 3. Transfer case was leaking 4. Transmission pan was leaking 5. Coolant fluid was dirty 6. Power steering fluid was dirty 7. Power steering pressure hose is leaking 8. Engine oil change was needed. Being the vehicle is old with 120,000+ it is expected to leak. We only replaced the right side outside mirror assembly there is no right side inside mirror to replace or we knocked off. We advise all our customer when there is an oil leak and leave it up to the customer to repair it or not. We do not force anyone to repair their own vehicle is the responsibility of the customer. On 9/13/17 I took my 1993 Ford F-150 into the Smog Shop Auto Services (V&L Auto) at 836 S. Redwood Road to get emissions and inspection done and left it parked in their lot. I inspected it just before and topped off fluids and put air in the tires, so there was no leak and all lights were working and the vehicle was functioning perfectly. They took the car in at this location, performed the emissions and inspection, and then drove it to their other shop V&L Auto at 1310 S. 900 W. to replace a bad motor mount and replace a battery hold down, defog all external light lenses and replace the right side outside and the inside rear view mirror that they had knocked off. They called and told me the oil pan was leaking and it would cost an additional $800+ to fix. The pan was not leaking when I dropped it off and not while it was at the Redwood shop (no oil on the ground where I parked it). It was safe to say the hole and crack, and therefore the leak happened when they took the weight off the motor mount by jacking up the engine with a floor jack on the oil pan and causing the damage while replacing the mount. They refused to admit their obvious responsibility or resolve the problem so I returned to their Redwood shop to at least get the emission and inspection certificates since the truck was now in compliance only to have them reject my inspection because of the leak that they themselves caused. Infuriated and stuck with a useless truck, I had them call the Highway Patrol who agreed with me that they had to pass me since I had already paid for it and the leak was not a safety issue and the truck could not be on the streets since they sabotaged it. I had the truck towed to my house and it is not drivable after what they did to it. There have been so many complaints against this company after damage they had caused and refused to resolve and just plain ineptness it is hard to believe the Highway Patrol still allows them to continue in business (see Better Business Bureau, Yelp, Yellow Pages etc.) They are downright dangerous and a blight on the city and should be investigated by certifying agencies and be closed down. Protect the consumer, not the scamming, lying, bait and switching shyster. They are conning the public and it is a crime. I have been getting my cars worked on at the Smog Shop for about eight months now the first service was on my navigator it was making a noise they let me no it was because i was low on oil so they suggested i get an oil change now my truck is nice and quit, a few months later my Chrysler's are conditioning went out i went to a AC service place they said i needed a new condenser i wanted a second look so i went back to the smog shop, the guy there said no you only need 2 hoses replaced so they saved me money and my AC works again thanks to all the guys who work hard at the smog shop they always get the job done and its nice they let you know when they notice things that need replacing to save you money in the long run people don't realize miner fixes now save you from huge problems in the future. read more

Hey Guys, I came from France, I bought a GMC Acadia 3.6 liter, after 1 year my engine has dropped. Engine broke. I called this garage and after 30 minutes, they took my car and evaluated the damage. Took my 2002 Ford Explorer in and got it check for suspension problems, the mechanics were able to get it up right away and found that I needed new struts and shocks and also my Springs were broken they were able to repair my vehicle right away.
