I was pleased with this place until.....the following day when I got on the freeway and suddenly my hood was smashed against my windshield. The technician denied having left it open yet in the same conversation said I had a faulty latch. So which was it, Faulty latch or you didn't do it?? The freeway I was on was Hwy 4 between 680 and solano where they currently have up those concrete barriers, I could have easily wrecked and maybe even died, or I could have injured someone else. I have full coverage and my insurance company did not find my latch faulty, I was just going to the people at fault first. I had a couple conversations with a different employee (very nice guy) who was in contact with the owner. The owner didn't once even reach out to me to offer any type of apology. I think that is terrible, and will never recommend this place to anyone EVER!! read more

Bait and Switch Operation Exposed! Did they greet me? Yes Was he smiling, oh yeah, big smile? Smiling and happy to serve another sucker coming in the get their car smogged, and pay more than they thought they were. i booked an appointment for my 2014 car, and was shown $50.75 on their website. I also used the $20 off coupon, so was expecting around 30 something dollars. When i arrived, i verified the price beforehand and the agent quoted me 60 instead of $30, and when asked why he said their price was $70 and then $59 with the coupon including tax. I explained that the advertised price on the website was not 70 to which he replied, "oh yeah we gotta change that". He would not honor the advertised price on their website, but robotically pointed to the pricing sheet on the wall behind him like as if he had done this a hundred times before. He clearly admitted the knowledge of the wrong price online. Either honor the mistaken price or change it. Simply a Bait and Switch operation by shady business owners. Do not patronize this shop and condone this B.S. we don't have time to drive down and be tricked last minute. how many people get stuck and end up having to pay it. I called, they were nice over the phone, gave me a great price (were having a promotion), and said I could walk-in. My 80 year old mom went here today to get a smog test. She had a check engine light on her dash and didn't know that a smog test would fail as a result. The technician did the test, yet instead of telling her ahead of time that she had a light on her dash (when he started the car), he ran the test, failed, charged her $70 and then told her that it was all due to the check engine light being on. He said go get it fixed, bring it back, pay $40 more. No thanks. read more

She reminded me that I had a coupon. :) :) I let her know that I was picking up tags the following day at AAA and she informed me that I would need to do it that afternoon (this was at 4:45) or the smog would be in the system and I would have to wait for DMV to send my tags. I scheduled an appointment for 10:20 the next day for my 1989 F250 truck. When I should up they said the synod just went down the night before. When I asked why they didn't contact me the guy said that the appointment system doesn't communicate to the shop so why have one. What it felt like was that they just didn't want to be bothered by having to run smog on an older truck that day. I than received an email asking if I was satisfied. Tried to send back but was rejected as a bad email. Oh well read more

Had my car smogged here yesterday. It was busy for a Monday and Chris appeared to be the only one working there. Needless to say he was very professional and friendly during a busy time. He timely addressed customers' concerns without ignoring the need of other customers. He finished my car (a 2011 Lexus) within a reasonable amount of time despite the fact that I didn't have an appointment. I've had my car smogged here for the last two times and I believe they're the most professional, courteous and efficient smog testers. I would definitely use them again and thanks Chris! read more

I had a very negative experience with Smog Star Express. I made an appointment through their website for Saturday at 8 in the morning. I double checked that they are open at that hour via a quick google search and got their 15 minutes early. The gate was closed, which is fine because it was still too early for them to be open, so I went to Costco to get gas and wait until opening time. I get there a few minutes past 8 and they still aren't there. I figured that maybe they were running late, or maybe they were getting things ready before actually opening, so I tried to call them only for it not to ring and go to a full voicemail. I decided to go the nearby mart to buy a couple of snacks to give the smog location a few more minutes before I give up on them. I come back at 8:20 and the gates are finally up! I went in to the office, and the "gentleman" that was in the garage barked orders at me telling me that they aren't open yet and that I need to leave the area. I am very upset with my last transaction at this place. I've been bringing my truck here for years and never had a bad experience. I brought 2 vehicles in to get smuggled mine and my bf truck. My bf truck passes fine. My truck passes but fails "visual inspection ". The guy brings me in and points so deep in the engine bay that I cant see where he said boots or covers are needed. Anyways take it to my mechanic he says he doesnt see the issue and sends me to his smog guy on Willow Pass rd. The owner there said there wasnt any reason I shouldve passed that test I passed and was in and out in 15 min. I had a really bad experience with this Smog Star Express on Detroit ave., in Concord. I went there in 2019 and gave them a bad review. I figured new management would take over so in 2020 I went back and a new technician said they couldn't do any test due to testing equipment failure. Okay, in 2021 I checked again and a different technician said the "compressor" was broken and could not test. In 2022, today, I went back to check on this business and yet a different technician (none of the techs ever checked my license of ID so they didn't know I was a former customer), and the tech said, "The compressor is broken, and can't do a test." In each case I was first in the morning and no other customers were present. This is a bogus business of some type, a tax write off, a money laundering scam...I can't think of any other reason why this California State smog testing center has failed for three years in a row to receive a customer. I am completely mystified by this particular business. That entire Monument Street "Four Corners" business district has really degraded in the last 30 years. Be careful doing business there with everything, especially your vehicle. read more
