WOW where do i start here? I took my Brother in laws truck down here to be smogged on a Saturday. The owner was there, a manager and a smog tech. After a little over an hour of the truck being on the machine the tech comes over and asks me if the motor has been swapped. I said I don't know for certain it's my brother in laws truck and he just bought it. He took another twenty minutes on the smog then comes over and tells me the truck fails because it's got the wrong distributor on the motor and as a result he thinks it's the wrong motor. Appalled I asked for the casting number on the motor so that he may prove to me that it is the wrong motor. He then states that the motor may not be different but he is going to assume that it is because the "DATA" says that the distributor SHOULD have a vacuum line on it per the book, and WITHOUT this line he cannot time the truck. SO FAIL. Still mesmerized by this random reason for fail I ask to see the "DATA." I am shown a book listing the 4Runner as a Van and only one motor style After twenty MORE minutes of arguing that the distributor is NOT the way to determine if a motor has been swapped and expressing my frustration that "ALL THE DATA" is just one book and doesn't even show the different motor types, I admit defeat and set the APPOINTMENT with the REFEREE as the Owner, Manager and tech insisted. About twenty minutes later I am hit with a stroke of genius and call Kragen O'Reilleys and ask if they carry the Distributor. The sales rep informed me that they did, so I asked him to check and see if there was a vacuum line on the part. He kindly did as I asked and found NO vacuum line. I repeated this process several more times and received the same answer from all the parts stores! I then called SMOGS UNLIMITED back and notified them of what I had learned; I was met with indifference and what seemed to me, anger. OK.....?? So I call my brother in law, whom might I add is now in a panic thinking he bought a dirty car and is pondering calling up the P.O and giving him a good verbal tongue lashing, and inform him that his car has failed. After we get the truck to the REF he takes a look at it and says that it looks to be in shape. He puts the car on the machine smog's it and is kind enough to print out the "DATA" saying that the truck does have the correct smog equipment and that the info was available online. WOW EASY, NO? I then go back to Smogs Unlimited and do what any consumer would do, I ask for a refund. I explain the situation, provide the paperwork and was told that a refund was out of the question. That regardless of how I FEEL the service was performed. Still not happy with the answer I try again to explain why I do not feel right having to pay for a smog that was left NULL due to the REF passing the truck as "SMOGS UNLIMITED" recommended, the "Manager" then states that refunds are the "Owners" decision. Fine I can do that. He tells me that the owner would be there on a Tuesday. I show up on Tuesday (Today) I Walk up and see her, so I say "one moment I'm going to get the paperwork." "GOOD" she says When I return with the paperwork she hands me a COMPLAINT FORM for the Bureau of Automotive Repair. DOESN'T SAY ONE WORD!!! "So that's it?" I asked. "If they say to issue a refund, I will." she says. SOooooo you need the Bureau to tell you how to run your business with customers?" I ask. To make a VEEEERY LOOONG and drawn out story short we agreed to disagree they DID NOT issue a refund for the piddly 49.00$ and some change and let's be honest it's not going to kill them. But pride stood in the way of customer service today. I'll play devil's advocate here, if I took the truck to the REF and it was wrong id have fixed it, took it back to Smogs Unlimited and happily had my retest. But that's not what happened they failed me because their book was bad or their info was "incomplete." They failed me because it's easier to fail me then to perform due diligence. But for everyone out there that works 8 hours a day and is struggling to make ends meet isn't $50.00 of your hard earned money worth spending correctly? If YOU work more days than you have off and AN EXTRA day wasted down at the REFEREE is one day too much, if you can't handle the extra pressure and stress of your car FAILING SMOG when it should have PASSED then id AVOID SMOGS UNLIMITED. For those that have a similar experience with this location let your voice be heard! Ill be the GUY outside this location with a picket sign and a megaphone (someone can donate that to me if you see me) SMOGS UNLIMITED FAILED ME BECAUSE THEY "THOUGHT" I HAD THE WRONG DISTRIBUTOR. Owner/Manager is an exceptionally hard worker. He runs it with his daughter and both are very efficient. Coupons are available 2 doors to the north on Oakdale Blvd, at the restaurant counter. They are usually visible. If not, ask for one. They were out when I visited. But I just told the young woman at Smogs Unlimited, "the restaurant is out of coupons". She responded, "Sorry about that. I will take them more when I get some time." And I'll credit you the coupon." I don't know if it's just luck, but my cars always pass. Maybe you won't be as lucky, but the owner works quickly and knows well his job. I do maintain my cars. I'm sure that helps. read more

I came here because they had a Groupon deal of $20 smog plus $10 for the certificate. They were so fast and were done in about 20 minutes. My car passed smog and when I went to the DMV the next day to register my car there were no problems. I would recommend and will come back next time. read more

They're fast when they are there. But their customer service and punctuality stinks. They have business hours posted but no mention of closing for an hour for lunch. I arrived at 11:55 for a smog check and the tech stated that he's closing for lunch. When I asked how long, he said he'd be back at 1:00 and he placed a "closed for lunch, will return at 1:00" sign out. I went next door and had my vehicle washed, then returned to wait until 1:00. After 1:05, I called the office number since they still weren't back from lunch. The answering machine picked up and stated the business hours (still no mention of closing for lunch). Finally at 1:13, they returned from lunch to a line of people waiting. No apologies. I've been going here for my vehicles for many years. Not sure if I'll be back for the next check. read more

This use to be a great place to go for a honest smog test. But the smog we just got was plan ol highway robbery. The tech tried to say the timing was off. So the car failed. So when we got home. I checked the timing and it was right on. So just out of spite I dropped the timing 5 degrees and had them recheck it. It failed again. For the timing being 5 degrees off. Well it was time to video tape the job. I put the car back to spec (where it was to begin with) and took the car back. And lordie it passed. The kid tried to tell me the timing can jump for any reason. Well I had a word for that! LIER! I have been a ASE Master tech For 30 years and to tell me that is plain ol dumb. So if you take your car there and it fails. Please call the Bureau of automotive calif and get the specs on your car before retesting it. If it fails s second time. Report them. That will teach them to be honest. read more

If i can do the a 0 star i will.. please don't come here. They don't know what they are doing. I went there and almost everything pass except they fail because they said its not connecting to there computer/system. They even recommended to bring my car @speedee oil or precision automotive to check. So i did, i went to speedee oil and auto service but they dont do that service, then i went to precision they said they are full and comeback after 6days and $97 just to run a diagnostic check for that. Good thing i went to Pepboys and they check and let me see it said WORKING, pepboys said nothings wrong with the system, nothing wrong with your car, we didn't do anything you don't have to pay anything.. so i went back to Smogs Unlimited and I said I went to Pepboys and they said nothing wrong with it, then they check it again and it pass, they don't even accept that its there fault, they said maybe Pepboys did something or what. So please give yourself a favor never go in this place.. there's a lot of smogs place in town. read more

A friend of mine came in for a smog inspection. The emissions passed with room to spare but the visual inspection failed. I completely understand that if something is wrong, it should fail. The odd thing, is that after it failed, the service tech offered to buy the car for $200. I don't think that is how businesses should operate. read more

false advertisement sign say free retest. Took my car here and it did not pass because I discounted the battery to do a tune up before I get a smog so the guy tells my I have to drive it for estimated amount of miles. So I come back for my Free retest after driving the car a good 100 miles. The guy ask me if I wanted him to hook up a scan tool for $10 to see if it was ready and I said no because I had no money so he runs the test and it still did not pass lady at the front desk said I have to pay $10 for the retest and I said It say free retest and she say yeah it is free but you have to pay $10 for the labor. free retest false advertising read more
