First up was the short rib brisket Birria tacos and if you are a fan of sloppy saucy tacos then these are for you. Up next was their brisket tacos with a curtido slaw and cheese blend. Gwen was the star of our experience and went above and beyond with our food and drinks. We later went to and ordered more and Reyes was also great. We sat outside on the dog friendly patio, which is fully enclosed and has a small cooling unit. It's definitely not as cold as inside, but it is a pleasant temperature. I've been wanting to try this place for awhile so when I found this location near where I was working that day I jumped at the chance to try it. My only complaint was that they did not honor the Yelp Check-In for a free lemonade. I paid for a lemonade then realized while I was eating that there was a lemonade check in so I gulped down my drink only to be told "we've been trying to get Yelp to take that off, we don't do that anymore." When it came out, the fries were already starting to get cold.. however, the taste was pretty good. It could have used more sauce and brisket. It just needed more. I go back and forth with rating this restaurant with a 3 or a 4, so let's say 3.5 overall. I've been to Smoke & Fire a handful of times and have had different experiences every time. The first time I tried this place out, we ate in the restaurant and it was a great experience. The food was good (got their smash burger and waffle fries and my husband got their Texas beef brisket grilled cheese). Brisket is good and they have a variety of offerings. They also have ample parking so it's easy to get to. I'll refrain from detailing every visit, but the next few visits had very long waiting times. After ordering one time, we waited about 30-45 minutes before our food was brought out and a couple of times we left before ordering because we were told the wait for food would take close to an hour. Kind of a bummer. The last visit, this past weekend, we decided to order online which seemed the best way to go. We ordered the Stockberger (which was a lot and thankfully it was something we shared) along with the brisket waffle fries. I know what your thinking, 2 parties a head of us; thats it. There just wasn't a sense of urgency to take the order and move on. Employee taking orders was single staffed which is the reason for such a long wait. She would also leave the register once an order was taken to help run food and such as well, also leading to the wait time to just order and sit down. The second big thing was the pricing. Boy it is expensive for just one person. I got the Nashville fries and a drink and that was $21 bucks!!! I cant see myself coming back just due to pricing. Everything was kind of cool and definitely stale except for the fries. 1. Quesadilla appetizer: meat had an odd smell, and was ridiculously sweet. The entire quesadilla seemed to have been dipped in a barrel of oil. Nothing was crispy or fresh about it. 2. Nashville chicken sandwich: the chicken patty was extremely thin and very very dry, as if it had severe freezer burn. No actual flavor. The chicken scraped the roof of my mouth with every bite I took. 3. We ordered a few sides and a burger. They were not good... not even worth the energy to write about them sadly. We enjoyed a midafternoon meal here this week and I have to give huge kudos to the staff. When we arrived it looked like there was only one person taking orders and one person cooking (and then two others joined within the hour). I was impressed that the staff in front stayed calm with the phone constantly ringing and people in line. We asked about her day and she said it was crazy busy and thanks for asking and just stayed very cheerful. The ambience was a little different than last time because there were about 6 un-bussed tables in the main room which didn't look great, but I had seen they were understaffed when we arrived, so no wonder. Also in a place like this where there are trash cans and bins set up to bus your own table, I don't get why people left their mess behind. Anyway. I just grabbed some paper napkins and a little water and cleaned off one of the cleared tables and voila! we had seats. We ordered the 1/2 pound brisket plate and the brisket fries and both orders were decadent and delicious and filling. I love their coleslaw.
