My husband and I had heard about this restaurant and decided to give it a try. We went on a Saturday afternoon. There were a few people there, but we had our pick of seats. We were greeted immediately by our server Kayla. She went out of her way to make sure we were well taken care of and checked back on us several times. I ordered the smoked chicken plate and my husband ordered the smoke and glory burger. When Kayla brought our dishes, we were blown away. So much food! And so delicious! My chicken was falling off the bone and had incredible flavor. I ordered onion rings and the beans on the side. Those beans... Yum! My husband also raved about his burger. What a pleasant surprise! The wings were smoked to perfection, the brisket sandwich was seasoned perfectly and the veggie choices work so well with the meat! Somehow the 2 servers were able to tackle the entire restaurant and the wait time was minimal. Only reason I couldn't give it a 5 was because of the BBQ sauce. Absolutely loved this place and very happy with both the food and service. We came in on 4th of July, so it wasn't busy at all. We sat at the bar, so we placed our order with the bartender who was extremely kind and friendly. Unfortunately, the food did take about 20 minutes to come out and when it finally did, there was a misunderstanding with our order and one incorrect item was brought out. The bartender handled it amazingly and offered us another round of drinks on her for the mistake. We were very impressed and grateful for the way it was handled and the correct item was brought out pretty quickly after that. The brisket burrito was so flavorful and absolutely stuffed! The pork ribs were some of the best I've had and just fell off the bone. We were so full, but the food was just so amazing that we couldn't stop eating! My only complaint about the food would be the mac n cheese. It tasted just like Kraft box mac so that was disappointing. With how delicious the rest of the food was, I definitely feel like they could change it and elevate it a bit. Overall, I'm looking forward to coming here again when we're in town and trying some different items on the menu. I am on summer break and when one of my long time friends, who I met at my first school teaching, said let's meet up for lunch, I said let's go to 3rd Ave. We kinda wandered around and since she lives in the area, she mentioned that a new BBQ place opened next to Farmer's Table. The nachos with chicken were great! I love me some Velveeta! The way it melts and its creaminess...so good! We then had the Garden Salad, which was new on the menu. So new, Johanna didn't know about it either...LOL! Love the presentation and the strawberries and pomegrante seeds really pull the rest together. Also very healthy, which we loved. Well overall, it was good. The beef rib was tender and meaty. The coleslaw had enough size on the cabbage to convince me that they actually made it. The mac and cheese was also good......but not amazing. It's like they put enough sauce to make it cheesy, but were afraid to make it too cheesy. The ribs were tender, but I found the flavor to be rather understated. There was so little seasoning that I asked for salt and pepper. The barbecue sauce on it was also kinda plain. For a place called Smoke and Glory, I found it to be not smoky at all and very "safe" in the presentation of its flavors. This is unusual because my most common complaint about ribs are that they had good umami, but were too tough. They seem to try to sell this kielbasa sausage to everyone. Aside from the large size, it was just okay. I wasn't the biggest fan of the texture. The toast that comes with it is also fine, but nothing spectacular. I might actually like this more as a bar than a BBQ joint. It's true that the Farmer's Table next door seems to get far better business while it's open and really sticks out. Came here for dinner on a Friday night with 3 other people and got seated right away. The exterior and interior had awesome metal art and had a good vibe. There's inside and outside seating available. It's right next to an Italian restaurant, Acqua E Farina, which we were told is owned the same people. Smoke & Glory opened up about 3 months ago and I think it's got a lot of potential and people just don't know about it yet, hence why it wasn't packed on a Friday night. Everything we had were tasty. The pork ribs was tender, juicy and fall off the bone. You can ask for their standard sauce or their habanero sauce to give it a little kick. The other food we ordered were fish tacos, mac & cheese, potato salad, beans and a burger. Everything was excellent and flavorful. Those beans were fireeee! You have to try them out. Our server, Frank, was attentive, friendly and really made our experience even more pleasant. There's a full bar and draft beers for extra bonus. TVs all around for those game nights. The barbecue was legit - the pastrami sandwich had the perfect serving size. We also tried the pork ribs, Cali Burrito with brisket, and even a veggie burger with sweet potato waffle fries . I enjoyed a very good BBQ lunch from this new BBQ House in Chula Vista. I ordered the Beef Ribs Nachos, the Smoked Pork Spare Ribs, and an order of Wings. For my ribs, I had the side of onion rings and the Pork Belly Wings. The smoked ribs were great. The meat was super tender and fell off the bones easily. It was well seasoned and offer a nice smoke flavor. The penetration of the smoke was very evident based on the pinkish color of the meat. Great smoke ring. The onion rings were abundant and crispy. They came with whole onions inside and were tasty. The pork belly beans were good, but I would have liked a little more pieces of pork belly in the beans. As for the wings, the server recommended the Tamarindo Chiltepin sauce, which was a great choice. The flavor of the sauce was great. It was a little sweet and had a very good flavor. The wings were tender and meaty. The nachos were good. They definitely do not hold back on the toppings. The tortilla chips are made in house and are of the thicker casero variety or homemade. They were well seasoned. Did I love the idea of Velveta cheese on my nachos? Probably not, but it worked here. The cheese was creamy and easily ladled onto the tortilla chips. The nachos are definitely meant for sharing, given their size. The beef meat was very tender and tasty. The service was friendly. I liked that they took the time to make suggestions and go over the menu in a casual manner. It was not rushed, so I had to relax before I ordered. They are located right next door to Farmer's Table and Acqua E Farina and are open for lunch and dinner. They have a great happy hour, too. Smoke & Glory is located in a Chula Vista suite adjacent to a popular brunch restaurant. You can park in the structure behind the building where there were plenty of open spots. There was a large outdoor space with picnic tables if you wanted to dine al fresco. The inside seating featured ten high chairs around a bar along with tables and booths. The ambiance resembled a cross between a barn and a lodge. Happy Hour was offered between 2 and 5 pm daily. A separate menu was dedicated for that time period with discounts on twelve food choices, draft beers, well drinks, and cocktails. The main menu was divided into appetizers and BBQ plates in the left column. Burgers, sandwiches, a hot dog, and a burrito were in the middle of the page. Salads, flatbread, sides, and family combos made up the right column. To my disappointment, there were only three BBQ Plate choices... Smoked Chicken, Smoked BBQ Pork Rib, and Smoked BBQ Dino Beef Rib. Nearly every barbeque joint I have visited offers brisket and pulled pork by the pound. This place made those meats available only as a sandwich. It shouldn't be difficult to modify the menu to sell those two items a la carte or as part of a plate. My selection was the Smoked BBQ Dino Beef Rib (1 bone) plate which came with two small sides. I picked the Mac and Cheese and Pork Belly Beans. A metal tray was delivered to my table with pickled onions, a dill pickle, and a couple of pieces of bread as sides. The bone was large with plenty of sauced meat. The tenderness was okay, but I have experienced better "fall off the bone." The mac and cheese was creamy. The beans were contained in a salty, watery gravy that resembled a soup. The service was hit and miss as I placed my order at the bar when no server came by my table. The staff did check up on me after delivering the food. Smoke and Glory BBQ is Kansas City style BBQ & NOT Texas style BBQ very different flavor. I prefer Texas style but there's a following in San Diego for Kansas City style BBQ. It had pico de gallo, guacamole, jalapeños, velveeta cheese and Oaxacan cream (5/5) stars. -Bread Pudding dessert (5/5) stars it was OUTSTANDING! It had ice cream and blueberry sauce. A must try!! -Smoke BBQ Pork Ribs (6) with cole slaw and pork belly beans in BBQ sauce. The sides were excellent!! I'm not a fan of Kansas City style BBQ especially, their sauce. I found my rib order a bit dry, but you may enjoy this plate. I rate the ribs (4/5) stars. There's indoor and outdoor seating with screens TV's to watch your favorite sports game. They have a lot of room for large groups. Happy hour is daily from 2pm-5pm, $6 draft beers, $10 House Cocktails. Excellent first visit. Every staff member we spoke to was welcoming, and our server Patty was friendly, helpful, and took great care of us--her advice on both food and drinks was spot on. The food lives up to the name. Their take on street corn was an excellent appetizer with a great, spicy bite. The beef "dino rib" was tender and full of flavor, and our sides--onion rings and pork belly baked beans--were both excellent. For drinks, we had the Los Altos and the Mesquite & Stone; both were good, with the Mesquite & Stone leaning sweeter and the Los Altos carrying a strong smoky note. One thing worth knowing going in: the drinks, BBQ, and sides all lean hard into the "smoke" theme. The food is excellent, but if you're expecting the sweeter flavor profile common at other BBQ spots, calibrate accordingly--there's a reason they put "smoke" in the name. The only minor note is that it's also a sports bar, so it ran a little louder than I'd prefer--but that's personal preference more than a knock. I noticed a new bbq had opened in Chula Vista and I gave them a try.  The setup confused me.  The entrance has signs for Farmer's Table and Smoke & Glory.  There was a huge line for Farmer's Table on a Sunday at 11am but I was the only one in Smoke & Glory which was the left part of the building. There was the delicious scent of bbq in the air.  I started with a complimentary soda water.  It was not good.  Tasted like half regular water and half soda water.  Made me long for Costco.  They have really good soda water now that the Coke machines are back. Kielbasa sausage was tender and juicy.  Full of flavor and a bit of heat.  This was likely the best part of my meal. Fries were crispy and had a nice fried potato flavor.  I expected them to be hot out of the fryer but they were more lukewarm like they had been sitting out for a bit.  I tried to order onion rings but they were out. 2 beef ribs were huge and made for 2 meals.  Beef was extremely tender and moist.  Very good quality beef.  I liked the sweet sauce that was glazed on top.  Overall flavor was very light.  I would have liked more smoky aroma and more dry rub.  I usually get beef ribs at Julian Beer Company where their ribs have a ton of smoky flavor and a ton of peppery dry rub.  Ribs were also lukewarm.  I prefer them hot out of the smoker.  I tried the bbq sauce from the bottle but it didn't taste as good as the bbq sauce that had caramelized on the ribs.  I took most of the ribs home and reheated them.  They tasted better at the proper temperature. Staff was nice but not very informative as when I asked what kind of wood they smoke with and was told they use wood.  Smoke a& Glory could be really good with better quality control. The food came out pretty quickly as well. I ordered the bbq chicken sandwich which comes with fries, pickle, and red onions. The bbq chicken sandwich was really flavorful and super filling. The chicken is shredded with texture reminding of a pulled pork sandwich and it was not dry at all. The cole slaw gave a nice refreshing crunch to the sandwich. They give generous portions and it's a large hefty sandwich for only $16! There are plenty of seats indoor and outdoor and it is a very clean place. The sandwich was good. The sides I enjoyed were the coleslaw and the Mac and cheese. The side of beans was decent as well. Unfortunately, our experience was the opposite. Not sure if the quality and quantity would be different if we sat down to eat, but we received our to-go tray and was disappointed to find the $40 Dino rib to be a singular tiny rib and small portioned. We also did not receive the mountain of fries that we saw in the online reviewer photos. The Mac and cheese tasted very artificial cheese. And the Dino rib meat was very dry and surprisingly NOT slathered in BBQ Sauce. We had to go back to ask for BBQ sauce on the side... and the BBQ sauce was probably the most watery BBQ sauce I ever had. The best item in our combo tray was the BREAD! Came in on a nice afternoon, curious about the BBQ and casual vibe. The place surprised us with how much space there is -- a huge, shaded outdoor patio with umbrellas and also a full bar and restaurant inside. My bison burger came thick and juicy, paired with starchy, extra-crispy fries that were exactly right. They've got a decent drink menu with drafts on tap and some nice non-alcoholic options too. Food was just ok. Ordered nachos (with pulled pork) and ribs with jalapeño cornbread and mac n cheese. The nacho cheese was made with velveeta (not a fan of the artificial taste of velveeta at all). Smoke & Glory is a hidden gem. The portions are fairly large. I had flatbread pizza that was tremendously heat-hot with many seeded jalapeños but scrumptious. Pink lemonade packed with flavor and the right amount of sweetness. Killer French fries crispy and large with coarse salt. Special kudos for extraordinary customer service. Ate ate Smoke and Glory last night. Ill start with the good. The service was polite and prompt. Ambiance was nice upon walking in. I ate at the bar and the server was really good, she made me a decent Old Fashion. Now the food. I ordered two pork tacos, a 6 bone rack of ribs with a side of Mac n cheese and their house baked beans. My pulled pork for the tacos was extremely dry and tough. Ribs had zero smoke flavor, baked and over cooked. Mac and cheese was ok..a little on the soupy side, beans were ok as well. I had a lot of food left over. This is the new BEST BBQ IN SD! I had the Smoke and Glory burger that comes topped with pineapple coleslaw and it was amazing! The bbq is smoked perfectly, not one dry bite. Potato salad is large chuck and the potatoes had the perfect texture and flavor. I highly recommend the habanero mango sauce for the burger/sandwich. TOP BBQ IN SD! read more
