My boyfriend and I were at @smokeandmirrorsrooftop yesterday in DC. The whole experience was shit as soon as we walked in after a short hassle trying to find a way to get up to the establishment. We were placed at a corner table with low seating despite the restaurant being empty. The crispy brussel sprouts appetizer was burnt and under seasoned, same for the burgers we ordered. The garlic truffle fries I ordered felt like they were slapped together as an afterthought. We debated getting dessert but opted out considering the disappointment we'd just experienced with our entrees. The only positive was the decor and service. read more

Generally unimpressed. It's working on ambience and a gorgeous rooftop view of the Capitol building. Food was above average. Drinks are meh. Old Fashion had no soul. Took 10 min from seating to ordering a drink. Service is staffed by people who went through the motions of hospitality. Borderline unfriendly. Needs a dress code. Some peeps just got off construction work and was sitting at the rooftop. Forgive and forget all that and you should have an ok time. read more

Bartenders were very cordial; however the hostess team was extremely rude. My spouse and I were walk-ins and told the bar was full service. The bar was not full service. I have worked in the industry before and full service means wait staff -- not go up and order. When I expressed my concerns the bar was very understanding, the hostess team was rude. I understand having reservations but if a patron asks a question, it should be handled with honesty and hospitality. Hostess team was hostile, demeaning and rude. read more

Stayed in hotel. Ordered martini- was good but tiny. Brussels sprouts were ok... asked waiter duck tacos or blackened shrimp? He said shrimp were more flavorful. Well, shrimp were not good. This place was very cool! rooftop bar and restaurant with great views! We arrived an hour early for our reservation after a long day of walking and seeing the sights. We asked if there was any way for us to be seated early. luckily they were about to open in 5 minutes. They sat us down and warned us we will not get service until they officially open. That was fine with us. We simply wanted to sit down after so much walking. We ordered some cocktails and shared the tomahawk steak. it was delicious. We were a bit annoyed they were out of a few drinks. Not sure why. Please restock your supply. read more

The views from the rooftop are excellent! The drinks are tasty, but extremely overpriced. The food is mid at best. The service is horrendous. If you get a waiter by the name of Napoleon do yourself a favor and ask for another waiter. He will leave you unattended for more than an hour, he'll forget your order, and have an attitude. read more

Went here with three women on a girls trip and we were so excited to come...unfortunately our server Princess couldn't be bothered so it ruined the entire experience. She took forever to greet us, seemed like she didn't even like people/wanted to be there. Food was okay- she never asked us how it turned out or if we needed anything. Another male food runner dropped the plate of food on the table so loud it literally clattered! And then gave me a dirty look...it was so weird. It was like they didn't like us from the jump for no reason. At the end we just wanted to leave so we asked for the check and waited 20 min for her to walk over to us & say "do you want anything?"...so we asked for the check again and waited another 20 minutes before just asking a manager. Princess never came back again, she didn't apologized for terrible service/us having to go to the manager or even said good night to us. Another couple walked in and left when we did because they said "it seems low energy in there" and that's exactly right. Seems like a lot of reviews are saying the same- at some point a pre-written response from management isn't gonna cut it. It's so weird that the staff is consistently disinterested. If I could give no stars I would. I made reservations for this restaurant and I was eager to experience it and was met with immediate disappointment. Upon entry to restaurant I was told by the host you could only eat inside if you were eating the vegan option menu which was $95 per person but if you ate outside you could have the vegan option menu and the original dinner menu but was limited to wings and burgers. I found that absolutely outrageous. How do you pick and choose who can sit where by the food choice they make? I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. I really enjoyed this spot! It's located in the AC Marriott in Navy Yard on the rooftop-11th floor. It's very date night and girls night just a nice upscale grown and sexy vibe. I came here with my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday and we had a great time! Food was really good! It's more small plates with some main entrees. I recommend the duck confit tacos, the mumbo sauce glazed wings and the burger entree was really good. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating . Overall a great experience 10/10 definitely recommend ! Will def come back to see the vibes in the spring/summer. read more

Visiting Washington DC for my Sisters birthday was super fun. I wanted to find a place that was super chill, with a rooftop, and great food and vibes. When entering the restaurant we were greeted by a super helpful friendly man name Cambell. He helped us up the elevator and continued to make sure we were okay after knowing that we were visiting from another state and never been to this place before. The greeter Kayla was super unprofessional and seem to have an attitude. She was very dry and seem like she didn't want to deal with us. After being seated she seemed to be speaking to a male coworker who in which served our food and was not friendly at all. Our waiter was super nice as well. The food was okay but I did not understand why it costed 80 dollars for 2 cups and 1 pitcher of mimosas (40 dollars each). I was very disappointed because I chose this place and the service was disappointing. I would never come back because the only great thing was the view, Cambell and our waiter. read more

Go for the views, but that is all. Historically, I've had really bad service at Smoke &Mirrors but, Desiree broke that trend. She was an awesome server. Attentive, without hovering and just an overall joy. The food looked amazing but, tasted meh. The wings were sweet almost asian chilli, not mumbo as described on the menu. For my entree, I ordered the sea bass and amazed how fish could be tough. I let my friend taste it and even she was confused. The toughness made her think it was overcooked but, the fishiness made it taste undercooked. I took 2 bites and left the rest. I decided that I'd just grab a bourbon as they have a pretty lengthy whiskey list. Nope! After I ordered my Basil Hayden nest, I was brought Elijah Craig (without asking if it was ok)because they only had 4 whiskeys available. I tried one last time to salvage my dining experience and ordered 1 of the 2 dessert options. The pound cake tasted like Sara Lee. My friend said the chocolate dessert was much better. I ate the strawberries off my cake and left the rest. I left the restaurant still very much hungry, but it was great to catch up with friends. My recommendation, go for the views and the aesthetic. Take pics of other people's pretty plates, but eat before you go. read more

Where do I start. It was 4:30pm on a Tuesday night, 4/5 and when we arrive the place was basically empty. The staff would not let us sit down. We had four in our group and one was a CEO of a Fortune 500 Company. We were not young hipsters and were treated rudely. We explained we needed a table for 8 and they made us sit outside although inside was basically EMPTY!! Hostess could not have been ruder. Had to get up and get our own drinks and food. Bar staff was rude until we gave him a $20. View amazing but seriously is this a night club? The service was extremely slow and orders were incorrect. Server was not knowledgeable about wines/drinks. The place was beautiful inside but rooftop views were hard to enjoy due to large crowd. I was at this location on Sunday 9/3 with some friends from out of town. The hosts were initially very welcoming and had great conversations. Then the waiter forgot to bring us our menus before coming to ask us what we wanted to order. Ordering was fine, however, one of the meals came out way later than the rest of ours which the wait staff eventually comped. One of my guests ordered a mimosa which was great so I ordered the same and received a drink which was half the size of the one that was just brought out mere minutes before. The waitress said she would try to make it right, however, that never happened. Another of my guests and I ordered the omelette which was supposed to come with avocados, however, when it arrived there were no avocados on either omelette. When we asked about it, we were told that the avocados were too hard according to the chef. We still asked for them to be brought out only for my guest to note that the avocado was just fine and to her liking. I never received mine. The last of our guests requested a To-Go box for her pancakes which were delicious, just too much for her. We were told there were no more To-Go bowls or plates so the only option was for the cook staff to provide a prep-bowl with cling wrap. My other guest was unable to order a meal to go for her aunt. Following all this, we still had to wait at least 30 minutes for the check to be brought out and another 20 minutes for the checks to be picked up to be cashed out. Overall we had very high hopes about this place but the experience was very disappointing. read more
