Dined there on 2/13/24. Regrettable decision. $28 Hamburger that was sloppy in presentation like a five guys burger and not nearly as tasty. Luke warm beer yes luke warm. I decided to check out this place while killing time in DC. I arrived around 10:30pm. So they already switched to an after hours menu which was limited. Really just 4 options;burger, wings, fries, and pan seared tuna. I went with the wings and fries. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The wings were not tasty at all, and the fries were just too crispy and dry for my liking. That's what I get for going after hours I guess. The drink I had was excellent. It was a Mezcal drink, and I ordered 2 of them. The service was good. My waitress was extremely attentive. Came to check on me every chance she got. Was extremely helpful, especially when taking my coat and putting it aside for me. Ambiance was cool. I gotta check it out in the summer time. I'm sure I'll be back, but not by myself. I'm not sure how it happened but my card was charged multiple times. Different amounts. I disputed with my bank and the charge has been pending for over two weeks now. A customer doesn't want to be inconvenienced with inaccurate charges to their card that they are left to figure out and dispute. read more

While staying downstairs at the AC Hotel by Marriott we were able to go upstairs to the rooftop bar/lounge. The view is beautiful! Views looking at the capital, and waterfront and Navy Yard area. Only downside is we were at the hotel all weekend and the rooftop area is closed on Mondays and Sundays, the best days in my mind to be open especially in this hot weather. Nice for happy hour, romantic rooftop stop through. We didn't eat but had drinks which I felt where good. Will be retuning read more

Smoke & Mirrors is a beautiful rooftop spot with great vibes. It features great views of DC, specialty cocktails and a menu of unique small plates and entrees. I came early for a late night (9:45pm, but arrived at 7 expecting a wait). I was seated almost immediately, at a table with a nice DC view. I tried the Duck Confit Tacos that were super yummy, and the Baby Don't You Gogo - also great. They have a beautiful patio with outdoor fireplaces and seating, but it was pretty full when I arrived. Round II! I wanted to really like this place so I gave it a second try. It was definitely better than the first time. The waiters were definitely on point, no complaints there and the ambience still matches the vibe. However, there is only one problem on a Friday night and Saturday night it is definitely a grown and sexy vibe. However, the music selection is terrible. You would think you should be playing some type of old school new school R&B, type of music to go with the vibe. People would actually go to a place and Spend a good quality of time there if the music is right. However, the music selection was not good. You could barely hear the music, and it seems like there was no effort in selecting a good music selection. The atmosphere is great. Music choice is all over the place. Food....don't order any food items. Our food came out as it was completed. The duck wings came out 45 MINUTES before the burger despite being ordered at the same time and both as meals not appetizers. Had I not eaten all day, I would have just cancelled the burger. Here's my breakdown of each food item: The duck wings: flavor was there but the wings were over cooked and barely had any meat on the bones. Broccolini: absolutely NO flavor beside the burnt flavor of the char. The burger: After the burger finally came out, it was dry and flavorless. I think they should rethink it and add more toppings. We ordered the New York strip entree and shared it. It was a good cut of meat, well prepared. Overall the entree was not too impressive but still satisfying. The ambiance is very relaxing and has a good feel. The waitress was very attentive and pleasant. She knew we were on a date night and surprised us with a desert! Will definitely come back. We sat for over an hour waiting for our brunch to come out of the kitchen with no explanation. Then when it did come out, the burger was incredibly overcooked (asked for medium and came out extremely well done). This isn't the fault of the establishment, it's more so my own personal view-no pun intended. Second visit-Friday night around 9pm, place was POPPIN....& at capacity. There is always something so humbling about having to wait in a line. I cannot do it though. I went to the other bar downstairs and had a super lackluster spicy tequila while waiting for S&M to clear out. It was maybe 10 min. Letting ppl up gets tricky also, bc there is literally just a line, no list, no names. So they open the elevator and we're all like bum rushing it. They should work that out. So we get up there, it is truly at capacity lol. They have a lot of really large, long tables which is cool for large parties-and maybe they don't even exist when there aren't large parties... I don't remember, but I feel like they were taking up a lot of unnecessary space. I sat at the bar and I wanted a spicy margarita and they were out of spices. Literally the bartender said, "we have no spices" ...I wasn't really clear on that. I don't know if that means they don't have the capacity to make spicy cocktails ....ever? Whatever. I got shots, they had liquor lol-which is the most important factor. Sexy vibe though, everyone was looking their best. I don't remember hearing music that I liked so I don't think they played rap. Maybe like top 40 or pop? I would go again but would prefer a guaranteed seat so we'll see. read more

I had the pleasure of trying this place out for brunch on a Sunday morning after watching someone's TikTok review and was not too pleased. The food was mediocre in regards to taste and temperature. Everything was lukewarm. Additionally, the mimosas had entirely too much orange juice in the them throwing the champagne to oj ratio off. The service was not too great either being that we had a reservation, waited over an hour for food after ordering, and watched other tables get their food before us that were seated after us. Since the four of us sat down when the restaurant first opened it didn't make sense that there was confusion in the kitchen and many other tables received their food in no time. Above that, the restaurant had a great view of DC since it's on a rooftop, it was clean, and the bathrooms were amazing. Hopefully, the Sunday we attended was an off day and it's not like that all the time. I most likely will not be returning. read more

Smoke & Mirrors is a place where the views of the Capitol are incredible. It is one of its top selling points. But to me, what will have me continue to visit is their hospitality and service. We not only had a wonderful waitress, Princess, but every server that came to drop off our food was different and very friendly. All our questions were answered and the bartender not only made incredible cocktails, but even mocktails. Best mocktail ever! Now for the food, I'm going to suggest the Mumbo wings!! My first time coming to this place and I was dissatisfied with the food service. It was around 8pm when my friends and I ordered our food. It was 9 of us and only 3 of us got our food within 10/15 minutes. The rest of the group received plates several minutes later. The most concerning thing was that 3 people had to change their order because they did not have what they ordered. One of the ladies that had to change her order received something completely different from what she had ordered already. (We were told the kitchen did not cook her second order so they gave her something else in the meantime). 9 ladies & no one liked their drinks. The view is really a 6/10. This was my first time at Smoke & Mirrors, a rooftop bar and lounge at the new AC Hotel. Awesome view and rooftop decor is modern and trendy. Similar to other reviews-the service is lacking. Everyone is very friendly but the systems and overall attention is lacking. The drinks were not bad but inconsistent. We ordered very common drinks-Tito's & soda and an old fashion. We were in a group, so multiples of these drinks were made. Each one was different. Furthermore, the server on the rooftop outdoor side seemed confused and perhaps new. He didn't seem to know the difference between tonic and soda as a mixer. Then he came around to ask how we were then then said the bar was closed! Not even a 'last call' heads up. Very poorly handled. The manager came around about 10 min before midnight to say, he wasn't rushing us out but we would need to leave in 10 min because they need to close. Wow. He wasn't rude about it, but it's clear the staff and management is still learning. read more

But the price for food and beverage is not the only element that makes Smoke and Mirrors one of the worst venues I've visited in my lifetime. Moving on to service - wait they have service? After waiting for more time than it takes to sew a sweater to get a glass of water, we didn't see the face of our waiter - let alone our food - for upwards of an hour. Possibly the least accommodating and most disappointing rooftop bar in Washington D.C. If you're going to have outdoor space with a view of the Capitol - it goes without saying that the patio shouldn't be littered with awkwardly-placed tables for 2 that allow no room for other patrons to get access to the view. A tip for the venue: allow more access to the glass walls for customers to get some understanding of why they're paying so much for average food and beverages. Miserable experience. The hottest rooftop bar in DC. Cool, diverse crowd of professionals. Great Capital views, good drinks, but not many options for food. I deducted a star because of the lack of food options and because on the reservation they ask if you are celebrating an event. I noted the reservation was for my birthday and my special day was not acknowledged at all so I'm not sure why they even ask. No birthday shot or dessert not even a happy birthday from the server. The drink presentation is lacking. The food prices are high yet the amount of food they give you is laughable for most dishes. Lighting is horrible for taking pictures. I was still hungry after I left this place but knew I would need to spend at least $100 to feel satiated. So we all just ordered one dish and shared it while planning to get food afterwards. If you're planning on going, please make reservations before coming. We saw a line of people get turned around because they did not have reservations. I'll start by saying that the bacon jam they put on the burger is amazing! I asked for some on the side and it was nothing short of a blessing. But the burger alone was okay. The chips that come with the burger are nothing special. I don't recall them truly having a taste. I'll have to try this place again another time. We had a new waitress and so I don't want to judge the establishment based on their performance because it was that bad. The food was okay. My friend ordered pasta and chicken. It was very dry. I'm so happy that I had a great experience on my first visit. I went on Friday evening around 5:00 pm and it was not crowded (9/2022). I was a part of a party of six and service was excellent - from the time we walked-in being greeted by the concierge to the hostesses and to our servers. I did not dine inside, but outdoors around the fire pit. The view and ambiance was phenomenal and we really enjoyed our experience at this establishment. Although the menu is limited, we ALL enjoyed our food. Drinks ...are on point! Do Note: there is a (2) hour time limit on sitting outdoors and I am unsure if that applies to dining indoors. We wanted to stay longer to enjoy the indoor scene and tried to make a reservation before our two hour time frame was up, however the hostess said, "aren't y'all outside already?" Needless to say we couldn't get a reservation/table and by this time it was super crowded so we left. Overall my experience was good and would dine here again with the expectancy of receiving excellent customer service and an enjoyable meal. read more

Visited this establishment for brunch, the couches were filthy, our waiter was very nice, however the service was very hot and cold. I'll start by saying, the food was awesome, once we actually got it in front of us. First, the waitress forgot to bring us the menus and came back asking if we were ready to order. They kept forgetting portions of our orders. My friend had the carne asada omelette, which is supposed to come with avocado but there wasn't any on it. The cooks came and told us it was too ripe so they didn't put it in. She demanded to have the avocado on the side, and it was just fine! They brought out our mimosas in all different sized cups. Then my friend's shrimp & grits came out wayyy after everyone else's meal. While the manager comped her meal, once we were ready to leave they mentioned that they ran out of to go boxes. They seemed extremely unorganized today. Im writing this review as we are waiting 20+ minutes for our check. Once we received it, we had to wait another 15 for the waitress to come back and take our cards. Then she said that the gratuity cannot be split and has to go on one single card. And they have the nerve to have a 20% service charge. Far too much for the experience that we had. Insanity. Not worth the prices. read more

Our experience was tainted by a rude hostess on Thursday 10/12/23 in the evening. Her name escapes me, but this week she had long red braids in her hair and was main the greeter/hostess when you walk off the elevator. As a greeter, you should be professional and have the right tone when communicating with customers. Additionally, this is the nation's capital, you don't know "who is who" and relationships matter in this town (I will leave it at that...) Training is very important. Worst experience in Navy Yard for drinks, food or service. The bartenders pretend you don't exist when you go to order a drink. It took more than 20 minutes just to have an order taken, then another 10 minutes for them to make a drink. Not to mention the prices are exorbitant despite the actual products served being totally mid at best. Maybe having the second bar located outside open would have helped wait times, but with the bartenders' lack of friendly hospitality -- it's doubtful that having more of them on hand would solve anything regarding the extreme wait times. Literally anywhere else in the city with a capitol view is more worth your time than Smoke & Mirrors if you actually want good customer service and to have a good time. The ambiance is awesome and the food is shockingly good (especially the truffle fries, MUST try, although be prepared for them to take a WHILE). The service is very hit or miss. They're either awesome and really friendly and helpful, or kind of cold, standoffish, and make you feel a bit dumb. The drinks are odd; they definitely put their own spin on things. The espresso martinis are pretty sweet, too sweet in my opinion. When I ordered just a regular gin martini they, for some reason, added something else to it. Something that tasted very floral and made it very sweet. I hated this and did not finish my drink. It's great to have unique cocktails, but also important to do the classics right. When you order a dirty martini you are expecting something very specific, not a sweet lavender drink. A bit expensive to be serving cocktails that I don't want to finish. read more

After a long trip we decided to stop in DC before ending our vacation. We selected the AC Marriott and the hotel staff made us feel so welcome!.
