The food took so long to arrive. My food came out at 2:15. Everyone else food didn't arrive literally until 3pm. Then have the nerve to stop bottomless mimosas. Poor customer service. Drinks: we came for brunch so they do have bottomless mimosas. However, they do not bring you a pitcher. This was annoying. They only refill your glass once you finish. This would have been ok but we couldn't find our server 80% of the time. It would take 15-20 min for a refill! Service: the waitress was professional and nice. It was not her fault the kitchen was backed up. However, the refills could have been faster. Since our food didn't come out until 3 I feel like we should have received free drinks or something. We received nothing. What makes matters worst is that someone in our party was charged a very substantial about. Three times for what their bill was. Not sure how this happened. Smoke and Mirrors is a beautiful place with probably the best view in the city. My friends and I decided to just have a nice dinner for Halloween and it was cute. We had a few different items from the menu, the crab dip and mambo wings stood out the most. I had the filibuster burger and while good was a bit dry. Unfortunately there were a few cons with our experience. The service was really quite slow for it to have been a Tuesday. Yes, it was Halloween but the restaurant was no where near as crowded as it is on weekends. It seemed that there was only one waitress for the outside area and a few parties even got up and left because service was slow. The bar was also quite slow as well it took a while for our drinks to arrive. Overall while pricey I would definitely give smoke & mirrors another visit for the ambiance and drinks. I would probably choose to have dinner elsewhere just because the menu was a little small. read more

Let me start by saying the 2 stars are for ambiance ALONE. The food and service on our most recent visit to this establishment was definitely nothing to make you want to return. I was the first to arrive to our reservation and the waiter seemed to check on me pretty quickly when I first sat. The rest of my party arrived maybe 10 minutes later and we didn't see our waiter Mickey for another 20 minutes. When he finally returned we were ready to order drinks and food. Fast forward another 20 minutes... no waiter and no drinks in site.. I grabbed the manager, Daniel, walking by.. since our waiter had begun his ghost act.. and asked him to check on our drink order. Apparently the particular froze' drinks we ordered were not ready yet.. which is fine but instead of just telling us that, our waiter decided to keep it to himself instead of asking us if we wanted something different. Anyway.... The manager brought us a free bottle of Rose to attempt to make up for the rocky start. If that would've been the only issue.. he might have been able to redeem the experience but unfortunately it continued downhill from there. When we finally got our food (at least another 15/20 minutes after asking about the drinks)... the best part of the entire meal was the breakfast potatoes and crab cake. A quick rundown of the food is below: CARNE ASADA OMELETTE - definitely not an omelette... not even sure it was carne asada. The meat, vegetables, and cheese were just wrapped in a fried egg like it was burrito. No flavor.. and the cheese wasn't even remotely melty. Breakfast Potatoes were delish though.. I think (idk I was hungry atp). The biggest waste of $28 I've ever spent. BANANA BREAD PANCAKES- looked great but completely raw on the inside. Batter started oozing out when cut open. We just sent these back didn't even get to taste. We were so over it atp I forgot to get a picture of the raw batter in all of the pancakes. My friend also got the crab cake and side of eggs.. the crab cake was delicious.. the egg was cold probably from the 40 minute wait for it to hit our table. Chicken and Waffles - definitely not the $26 dish you would imagine it to be.. the chicken was 1.5 chicken strips that someone ripped in half before serving.. waffles were extremely cold... again probably from sitting for 40 minutes. So after picking through our food and not seeing our ghost waiter the entire time.. we give up and attempt to get our check. He finally comes and brings our check and disappeared again. After about 15 minutes we ask another waiter to find him. We watched the other waiter tell him we needed him across the room but he still never came. We waited another 5/10 minutes before I just went inside to give our payment to the waiter that actually paid us attention.. we seen the other waiter more than our ghost.. probably should've tipped him. For the price tag you expect at least decent service and semi appetizing food and we received neither. This would be the last place I would return to or recommend for brunch. 0/5 stars for food and service. We left extremely dissatisfied with light pockets and practically empty stomach. read more

The views are beautiful but the service was seriously lacking. We came here on a Saturday night with reservations, and the host showed us to the table outside on the rooftop. She gave us a barcode to scan to get the menu for drinks and food. We all thought the view was amazing and my friend and I were super excited going through the menu to figure out what we should get. Someone came by about 5 minutes later and gave us water and said our waiter would be here shortly. 35 minutes later nothing, and we started to realize the kitchen closes the dinner menu in 15 minutes. I asked another waitress if she knew who our waiter was since we've been waiting and she was so sweet and she said she would ask the hostess and find out. We did get our server and he apologized profusely about the miscommunication and we had about 3 mins to put an order in before the kitchen closed and he said he would take off an item on our receipt since we waited so long, but he didn't when we got the receipt and we were ready to leave. Luckily we already checked out the menu and got our orders placed to try the food. Poke nachos- were pretty good, it tasted fresh and we loved that it was served with wonton chips. This was a huge serving and could definitely feed 4-5 people. Jerk tacos- my friend had these and said it tasted really good. The flavors were really good and it was cooked well. Crab and spinach dip- I thought tasted really good, there was a lot of crab meat which I think makes a huge difference. I am staying at the AC by Marriott- this 11th floor restaurant is absolutely breathtaking in the morning especially when I visited for their top notch breakfast - even just the Buffett was the best quality. The thinly sliced prosciutto was amazing. Not to mention the French imported croissants were extra flaky and the coffee is also complimentary. For dinner I ordered the olive and pecan appetizer with the salmon. The salmon had amazing smoked flavor and was so crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. Cannot recommend this place enough. My glass was dirty AF, but bc the server took about 20 mins between stopping to check on us each time, I didn't even complain. Let's just pray I don't get germs! My friends ordered a birthday cake for me. I never received it. We were sat on the patio in the COLD (40 degree weather) with no forewarning of that being where we'd be seated. So, we froze (toes going numb) bc there wasn't enough heating coverage. The music didn't seem to match the vibe of the venue. The food was very average. They charge $14 for a pineapple juice :/ and called it a mocktail. The salmon was dry. The average price was about $30-40 for entree, $20-30 for appetizer, and $20-30 for A drink! The quality didn't match. The manager resolved our issues and was kind, empathetic, apologetic, and accommodating. He brought us rafter cupcakes since we never got my cake . My husband and I went there last night for Valentines Day and received a VD only menu for $85 per person. The full menu was unavailable. Keep in mind that the VD menu was extremely limited with literally 7 items on the entire menu that included an appetizer, entree and dessert. Total waste of money. The bill came to $273 which did not include the tip. The chocolate mousse cake was frozen (basically something that came from Costco). The food was ok, literally. The lobster was dry. When we got there, there were fewer people than expected. It's like everyone got the memo to not go there except for us since we've been there before which led to yesterday's visit. It was really good. I would get it again. When the first meal can out we didn't have any silverware. Then we waited about 5 minutes for silverware. Then when my simple meal of a burger and fries came out, the fried were clearly burnt. I returned the food. When I got the new plate of food the fries were not burnt. I did order truffle fries. They were not truffle fries and my burger was over cooked. Another person in my party ordered chicken Benedict. The chicken was burnt. This meal was returned to be made over. Beautiful decor/ ambiance , great views. However, when you sit down to be served food and drinks; everything goes up in smoke. I wanted to like the venue. However, We waited a very long time (50 mins) to receive our order. And the restaurant was not crowded at the time. Secondly, they do not serve all the meals at the same time. The table next to us abruptly closed their check because of the same poor service. We only stayed because it was my friend's birthday and she received her meal first. This place leaves much to be desired. I made a reservation for my birthday a few weeks in advance. Upon entering the building there is a sign out front that says Smoke and Mirrors but the door was locked. We had to go through the hotel. We get to the elevator bank and there is no one there to let us up. Luckily a hotel staffer helped us to the 11th floor. We were told by the staffer that a hostess is supposed to be letting us up. People from my group arrived at separate times and there was never anyone at the elevator bank to help them up. We get to the hostess stand where we were informed we had to ask in advance if we wanted to be seated outside. No where on their reservation page does it state this. There were plenty of tables outside but even after telling them it was my birthday they refused to sit us outside. We were there for a little over two hours and there were plenty of tables outside that we could of sat at. Furthermore the seating inside is very uncomfortable with couches and backless stools. It took a very long time to get food and drinks. Doing bottomless here is $40 but they only pour a glass at a time. Finally the server who was very nice started bringing us pitchers instead. The food was good. That's about it although we were informed they didn't have the ingredients for the burger or wings. I'm not sure how you don't have beef or chicken. But sure. Their bathrooms were damaged and the sinks didn't work. Overall I'm not sure why people rate this place so highly. The views are great but that's about it. read more

Wish I could give a good review, I do think it's a great place from what I'm reading/seeing online. The reason I can't is because after holding a reservation for over 2 months and confirming the reservation through them the morning before, they decided to cancel the reservation that afternoon because of a "private event" and offered a pretty lame apology message. Pretty upset as I made this reservation for my wife and I's anniversary trip to DC, leaving me to pivot somewhere within 24 hours. Keep in mind I would have gotten penalized $50 for not giving 48 hour notice, they give ~24 hour and act like nothing happened. I really hope this is a one-off experience and the service/treatment from the restaurant isn't this atrocious for everyone. Service was not good, the brunch is not worth $40 bottomless if the mimosa going to be watered down with a hand full of pulp floating. Not only, but a whole glass of mimosa was spilled on me. Not going to ding that much because she atleast apologized but it went down from there in her tone and not disclosing price on refills and not even wanting to comp. I visited this restaurant on a Saturday for brunch with a friend. The name itself is very appropriate, this place is full of smoke and mirrors. The hostess was overwhelmed and seating people with reservations after making them wait 10 minutes (the tables were ready, she wasn't). The waiter took a long time to come to the table, and mumbled the entire time. Additionally, when the food arrived, he never came over to check to make sure we had everything. My friend didn't like her burger. My banana bread pancakes didn't taste like bread. The brioche french toast was decent. And the potatoes were ok. Also, the drinks were good. But our waiter said we were limited to ordering the three drinks on the brunch menu. I noticed multiple other tables with drinks that were not on the brunch menu. We had a horrible experience with the busboy. He came over to our table, while on his phone, and asked us if whatever he was carrying was for our table. To which we asked, what he had. His response: " I don't know." I then proceeded to ask him if he worked there, and to my astonishment he did, and it was not a prank. We asked him to confirm with the kitchen, and he came back out with our aioli, and he almost flung the entire aioli at us, angrily. After speaking with the manager, she offered an apology, and compensation, which did not include anything we already purchased. She offered brunch at the AC Marriott--totally not helpful. Went there with a friend for his birthday. We didn't know you could only sit around the wall, on a barstool if you didn't make reservations. That would make sense only if the place was packed, which it wasn't. There were plenty of tables available the entire time we were there, some of which were dirty upon our arrival and through our exit. We had to go to the bar to order our food. Fortunately, someone brought us our dinner. However, NO ONE checked to ensure everything was to our satisfaction, which it wasn't. The so-called fish sandwich was nearly equal amounts of breading and fish...horrible. Also, my friend needed something else but because we had no server...I think you get it. I was pretty let down with my first experience here. I had been looking forward to coming for weeks due to all the hype around this place and finally had an occasion to come in for drinks. We didn't have a reservation but the place was fairly empty and since we were just getting drinks we were happy to head to the bar area. The host let us know there's 3 tables near each bar for first come seating, but most of them had been reserved so it was strange she told us 3 when only 1 was available. No one greeted us at our table and we were not informed the sit down table was bar service only, even though it had glassware and plates preset. We eventually got the bartenders attention, and grabbed some drinks, however no one ever came to fill our water glasses, so we had to walk them over to the bar ourselves and ask for them to be filled? Very strange procedure. Drinks were well made, wine had a generous pour etc. The vibe is very hotel lobby bar, which I mean I guess makes sense it's in a hotel but with a name like smoke and mirrors I really anticipated a much more cocktail lounge or even more of a speakeasy feel. Amazing rooftop with cute seating and fireplaces! Highly recommend this spot for brunch or a late night lounge vibe. The food was delicious. I had avocado toast but other entrees that looked delish were the chicken and waffles . Cocktails were sooo good. Only downside is it can be a bit noisy with the adjacent highway. They removed all the chairs from both bar areas to allow more standing room. I think this is a wrong move, as the staff struggle to get drinks and food out. Drinks are a little on the pricey side $18-22. We tried the #namesake Smoke & Mirrors and the Hola Adios (sub rum, of course). Weekdays are better to visit, and make reservations if you go on the weekend. Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to try the food, but word on the street is that it is good! Gleaming in the distance immediately to the left after entering is the Capitol dome and a spectacular west facing sunset. A throw-back modern bar and sprawling indoor lounge space is bumping Super Bowl Halftime 2022 mixes and a sleek host stand is easy to miss. I was VERY interested in having an outside table to fully adsorb the setting sun on a shockingly warm winter evening, so I made online reservations for 3. After arriving with only 2 people, we were told that because there were only 4-tops outside, we would have to sit inside; negating the point of making reservations. Please do NOT go the path of the want-to-be elite velvet rope establishments. That attitude does not succeed in D.C.. Just sit us at a 4 top. The loss of 2 seats over 1-2 hours over the evening will be adsorbed; especially because over an hour later and 4 drinks deep, the 2 of us left only to see empty 4 tops outside. Do NOT do that. Luckily we DID sit at the bar and were greeted with not only charming and helpful bar staff, but the perfect view for taking in the lounge room. An updated Art Deco look, large couches and small table nooks make the space both open and intimate. The cocktail menu is relatively small and is accessed through a glass coaster with the QR code on it. Bartenders are happy to craft your hearts desire while classical takes on Boulevardier, G&Ts, and mezcal margs dominate the menu. Some start-up hick-ups like staff standing around (and in the walk ways as people try to get by) and key mixing ingredients in absentia (no maraschino liqueur nor Green Chartreuse means no Last Word!). These are all bumps many new establishments hit. With a gorgeous space and rooftop real-estate I think they can go from A-OK to Great review next time! read more
