The location on the corner looked a little bit like a vintage setup. After parking around back, we entered through the door w the paper notice- "Entrance". After we got in, those working welcomed us and the smell of the food was incredible. They explained the menu on display behind them and we ordered. The food was as good as the smell and I would order the same thing again. I got the "Outlaw Brisket fries" w cheese, onion straws and a side of coleslaw and cream of mushroom. After you order your main entire', all the add ons are no charge. The food and service was good and the inside doesn't look vintage but just like I imagine a good BBQ place would be. I stopped by Smokey Beards on a Friday right when they opened at 5 PM and was greeted by the owner, which was a really nice first impression. Our server took the time to explain the menu and all the ways we could customize our food. I ordered the brisket sandwich and the Outlaw Brisket Fries. The person who was working the food line recommended adding the mushroom sauce to the fries, and I'm so glad I did because it was delicious! The brisket was fresh, tender, and full of flavor. The portions are huge, so if you're not super hungry, I definitely recommend sharing. Throughout our meal, Robert kept checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed, and when we were finished, he brought us togo boxes without us even having to ask. Great customer service! The restaurant itself is very spacious, making it a great spot for family dinners or larger groups. It started getting busy around 5 PM, so it's clearly a popular place for an early dinner. The brisket was moist fell apart and was awesome! It certainly didn't need no sauce. From the choice of food the brisket was the best thing that I've tasted here. Art the pitmaster gave me the rice bowl, which was very good. Next time I come here. I'm gonna try one of their beef ribs. This place is a little different than other barbecue joints, it seems to be a little upscale. But I would come here again. Smokey Beard's menu is modest, featuring Zabiha/Halal brisket and three sides (fries, rice, or mac and cheese). The brisket is by far the star of the show--well-smoked, flavorful, and clearly the focus. Where it falls short of a full five stars is the supporting cast. True Texas BBQ is about the entire plate, and the sides feel underdeveloped. I'd love to see options that complement the smoke and seasoning, like brussels sprouts, collard greens, sweet potatoes, or even simple wins like a cucumber-tomato salad or solid BBQ beans. I was also surprised to see only beef on the menu; smoked chicken or hot links would absolutely motivate more drives down I-35 from Dallas. The restaurant itself was clean; the staff was polished and hospitable... like real, southern hospitality. There's potential here. Nail the sides and add one more protein, and this could be a must-stop. I'd go back for the brisket--and I'm rooting for what this place can become. read more

This is definitely a 5 star place to eat. We ordered the Outlaw Brisket Fries and a pound of the pulled brisket. The brisket fries are fried in beef tallow so they are very tasty. Adding brisket, cheese and BBQ sauce would be great enough but you get to add anything on the sides menu if you want too. The brisket itself was perhaps the juiciest, most tender and savory brisket I've ever had. No BBQ sauce is needed. The pièce de résistance is the Dubai Chicolate cake. OMG! In my opinion, better than Hard Eight, better than Riscky's, better than Salt Lick in Round Rock, just the best! It's flavorful, tender, smoked to perfection and the barbecue sauce is delicious. It has an excellent balance of flavors with the right amount of heat, the right amount of sweet just enough of both and all the other intricate flavors that make a great bbq sauce. We made sure to get there right as it opened because they're only open for 2hrs on Sunday and we were worried they might run out. We were expecting a long line, but were able to walk right in. Everything was absolutely DELICIOUS- honestly the Fort Worth Lovelist post that I saw doesn't even do this place justice. my hopes were up, but this place wildly exceeded expectations. The brisket was soooo tender and flavorful! Fall off the bone good. The mushroom sauce, even though it's not needed was absolutely mind blowing! I dipped every piece of brisket in this sauce and boy... I cannot wait to come back and get it. The two desserts we had were fantastic- my favorite was the Dubai double chocolate cake.
