A friend was hungry for bbq at 8:30 on a Saturday. Angelos internet presence was marked OPEN, closing listed as 10pm. We hurried over from East Ft Worth, close to Hurst. We got there by 9:30 and they were completely closed! Grrr! It's not what we were craving, but we headed to Lucilles, who actually operates according to their listed hours. I tried the sliced Brisket sandwich. BRisket was the star-tender and seasoned good. They could improve if they toasted the bun, it was too moist almost soggy. Their bbq sauce, which tasted great, could to be thicker. Potatoe salad was fine but their smoked mac n cheese could be improved-maybe its the cheese which tasted canned. Atmosphere and customers were vintage. Really interesting taxidermies all over, deer, moose, bears etc. Hey, its cool western vibe. This is Cow Town, afterall. Boy I do not like writing these kinds of reviews. I went to Angelo's with friends for dinner before a show nearby at Casa Mañana. My friends parents have been coming here for like 50 years so it holds a special place in their memories and I think that is why Angelo's means a lot to them. As someone who was just looking for a good BBQ potato, it wasn't quite the same experience. The place is huge but it was largely deserted with only a few tables having guests. The room is dated and there are mounted game trophy heads around the ceiling perimeter. This didn't bother me so much, but I am sure that some people would not be wild about it, so be forewarned. Back to the BBQ... I had the BBQ potato and it wasn't hot, barely lukewarm, and that a huge red flag for me. I like hot food hot. And the BBQ wasn't what I was expecting. I saw one of the guys chopping brisket behind the counter and I assumed this was for our potatoes, but it wasn't. The meat for the potato came out a a warmer or something and it had already been mixed with sauce. That's another red flag for me. I prefer to sauce my own food as I like a very small amount of sauce on my BBQ. I want to taste the meat. As it was, the sauce didn't really add anything to it and both me and another friend who had a potato agreed with what I found. It seems Angelo's is a place that you either really like, or really don't care for. Unfortunately, I am in the latter group. There are too many BBQ places nearby that I would prefer to go to before I would consider Angelo's again. read more

A relic past its time...makes me sad...schooners of ice cold beer the remaining remnant of Q royalty. Both brisket and sausage was bone dry...sweet tea still sweet!! While Angelo's is a very historic barbecue joint, that also means that it is relying on It's prior accomplishments rather than what it's doing today. I have been eating here since the early 80s, and it's getting to the point where I'm considering not eating here again. It's never been one of my favorite places, as I am not a big fan of a yellow mustard based barbecue sauce, but they do have amazing cold beer served in frozen fishbowl mugs. My wife and I decided to have lunch at Angelo's today and we both have the stuffed baked potato choice of meat with chopped barbecue. $13.50 per plate. What shocked me was that they charged $.75 for about a tablespoon of grated cheese. Seriously? $13.50 for a baked potato and a charge for that little bit of grated cheese just seemed petty. All told with drink and tip it was pushing $40 for two people for average barbecue So unless you want the nostalgia of eating at Angelo's, there are much better places to eat barbecue in Fort Worth. read more

Angelo's was one of my go to restaurants for barbecue in Fort Worth for a long time, but I don't think I'll go again. Tonight I had a sliced beef plate with corn and green beans. The sliced brisket was absolutely horrible. It was dry and tough and hard to slice and really the flavor didn't taste like smoked brisket. It tasted more like roast beef. The corn and green beans were cold and tasted like they came directly out of a can...no flavor whatsoever. Generally, the green beans are well seasoned. too it off with two slices of cheap white bread. I will not be going back to Angelo's again. It's sad. They used to be so good. read more

I went to Angelo's with a few coworkers for a quick lunch. My expectations were not too high,but the experience for sure met and may have even exceeded the expectations. The team has speedy service and prices were realistic, especially for barbecue. There wasn't anything that stood out flavorwise, but the green beans, coleslaw, and sauce all complemented the juicy smoked chicken pretty well. Undoubtedly the worst barbecue meal I've ever had. The meat was a sort of mystery meat. It looked like beef roast they'd put barbecue sauce on. The barbecue sauce was worse. The baked beans tasted like they were three months old with bad seasoning. When I asked about onions, pickles, and jalapeños the wither said they were under the two pieces of white bread. Whatever happened to rolls like many barbecue serve? I've never been served white bread at a barbecue restaurant before. read more

I came here during a work trip due to a recommendation from a coworker. As soon as I pulled in the parking lot I knew I would like this place. It smells like meat as soon as you open your car door and smoke is barreling from the backside of the restaurant. I was greeted by two gentleman that were very helpful and even gave me a taste of a few sides to help me decide. I chose the brisket and the ribs. Although I'm not a huge ribs fan, I was glad I went with the recommendation for these ribs. They were so tender and delicious I loved them. They had just a thin bark on them and definitely fell off the bone. The brisket was tad dry for my liking and the only reason I took a star off. All in all, a great spot for a Wednesday late lunch and definitely a place I would recommend. This place just feels comfortable!! read more

Certainly a historic site. The ribs were delicious and juicy. The chicken was ok, a little on the dry side. The sauce left something to be desired. Something was missing as it lacked oomph. It was watery (possibly Texan) but bland. I bathed my chicken in it to no avail. The lighting could use a real update. It was quite dark and fluorescently dungeoness. A warm color hue with more luminance was be a big improvement. It's counter service which is ok but it didn't seem like anyone really cared. There are no sauce bottles on the tables forcing you to go up to ask for more ketchup, etc. Overall, I imagine Angelo's had a loyal following from locals but there're too many options available for those new to the city for it to survive the next decade. read more

Came here on a Friday around 7:30 PM, the parking lot was pretty full so we were lucky to find a spot. When we went in there was no line but a lot of the seatings were taken. I opted for a plate, which comes with two meats, and two sides and two pieces of bread. For my meats, I chose brisket and sausage and for my sides I chose mac & cheese and potato salad. The food was delicious. This place is definitely a quick pitstop if you have a full schedule and you just want an easy bite to eat with no frills. Everybody in my party was happy with their meal and left feeling full. Overall a really good spot if you're in the mood for barbecue and don't feel like waiting on a line. read more

A good friend of mine told me that I should have not had a Fort Worth experience until I've been to Angelo's barbecue. I was up for it and so we went over. It's kind of in the middle of all the warehouses, but obviously this place is very popular. It smells amazing as you come to the door come with all the wood smell in the barbecue cooking. There was a long line for lunch, and I think you can either get table service or you can stand in line, but if you stand in line, you tend to get it faster. they had all the traditional Texas barbecue, like chopped beef sandwich, or your choice of meats, two retreat varieties if you wanted. And you got two sides I had never had smoked corn on the cob before, it was delicious. But the entrée I went with the chopped beef on a baked potato I had traditional coleslaw, which was very tasty with celery seeds in it. And of course, the corn. They also had jalapeño poppers, which was smoked turkey wrapped in bacon and jalapeño. Delicious! And we finally wrapped up with dessert, we chose the pecan cobbler, which I had also never had before, which is basically pecan pie done as a cobbler. Topped with vanilla ice cream it was also very delicious. But that was a ton of food that was super tasty and I rolled out of there like Oompa-Loompas were following me. Well I went back again after a year last night and at prime dinner time. Only about 15 customers in the place. Now I know why. The brisket sandwiches had very little brisket on It and the sides were not good. Four in my family were with me and all were very disappointed. The draft beer is still coldest in DFW, but I would not recommend anyone eating here. No wonder so few people in restaurant, they are not coming back either. Ever since the old man owner passed away, the son took over and obviously the quality,the nickel dining and all have driven business away. This is a great place to eat!! The restaurant has a neat atmosphere, and our food was some of the beat barbecue we have ever eaten. The ribs were truly"fall off the bone" and the brisket can be cut by a fork , and melts in your mouth. Picked the cole slaw, mac and cheese, and one more item that I can't remember. Seems like... half a pound of meat. You could split between 2 people or finish the whole thing on your own. The brisket wasn't that good... I think because it was a little cold. The sides were the highlight and out of all of them probably the cole slaw was the best. There are a decent amount of TVs inside if you want to watch a. game. Plenty of seating. Definitely gives me a "hang out here" vibe. Maybe it would be better during lunch. I have been a customer of Angelos for over 60 years although because I no longer live in FW it has been several years since I had the pleasure of eating there. To celebrate a birthday I decided to treat my cousin to "something special" and buy him lunch at one of "my" favorite places and get him a treat he had never had before. Many years ago I got hooked on sliced brisket on dark rye with Swiss. I had never heard of it until I was in line one day and the guy in front of me ordered it. My cousin likewise had never experienced it so I was really looking forward to introducing this long time Fort Worthian to something both new and special. Unfortunately, it did not work out that way as the brisket was both fatty and tough (an odd combination), the dark rye was dried out and slightly hard and the Swiss tasted like it had been sliced the day before. I tried a side I had never had before "smoked Mac & Cheese" and would not recommend it as it was very dry and pretty tasteless. All in all, not the experience I was looking for. This was my first trip back to Angelos since the massive construction done on White Settlement RD several years ago and I have to believe they suffered during this time - perhaps the place was sold and the folks running it today just don't have the "hang" of it. Judging from the fact we were in the place at 2 pm on a workday and had picked that time to "miss the lunch time rush", we succeeding beyond my wildest expectations as there was literally no one else there when we arrived. this place is more like a 3.25 out of 5 stars. this review is only for take out. I wanted to get bbq around my airbnb, and found this place less than a mile away. Its very interesting, that the target plaza looks nice and updated, but if you travel to around this angelos bbq area, it looks dim and desolate at night. When we got there, it was packed, and we couldn't find parking in the lot, but luckily on the streets there was a spot open. I called and ordered a meat plate with 3 sides and it was fairly quick for them to get my food ready. The interior was fairly packed packed, and its interesting as you walk in. Its a long corridor until you get to the front and order whatever you want. It's not modern by any means, and has more of a rustic vibe. As for the meat platter, it was roughly 16.50, and it came with your choice of meat, along with 3 sides and two slices of bread. I ended up getting the sliced brisket and potato salad, mac n cheese and coleslaw. The meat wasn't as juicy and definitely needed the sauce to help flavor it. The best item for the sides was the potato salad. The mac n cheese was kinda runny and the coleslaw had a interesting after taste, guess it wasn't my cup of tea. I do enjoy the fact that they provided bbq sauce along with two slices of bread and a pickle. from reading other reviews, it looks like this bbq restaurant has been a fort worth staple for many years, and i don't know if i'll be back since texas has so many other bbq joints. Great bang for the buck BBQ place in Fort Worth. Not the best I've had, but excellent value, so my scoring is based on the price point. I got a 2 meat plate, with ribs, brisket, potato salad, and Mac n cheese. Add a large craft beer, and my total was 24.99, after tax. The flavor profile on the meat was excellent. Could have been a little moister, so I wonder how fresh it was... But the flavor was good enough that I used very minimal sauce. My sides were fine, nothing special, and no complaints. Beer selection was good, both draft and bottles. Common American beers and some local crafts. Service was counter service for ordering, but they have people walking around to ask if you need anything. Everyone was polite and friendly. So, why Angelo's does not rank in Texas Monthly's top 50 is beyond me. I have been to at least 20 if not more of the top 50 in the past several years, and some of those were just so-so on my visit. Such is barbecue. BBQ is like, well, you know what. Same bed. Same sheets. Same woman. Some times is better than others. And so, hey, look... I know what I'm tawkin' bout when I say Angelo's is right up there with the cats that are getting the TM accolades. Angelo's is cooking on straight hickory, no gas, no electricity, no nuclear fission or fusion or what the hell ever...in 60 plus year old brick pits. This is the real freaking deal, people. And the barbecue is perfection from brisket (I always order from the fatty end), to ribs to chicken, to I dunno...whatever they cook. This has been consistent for the forty years I have been eating here. And in the past year Angelo's has upped their game by adding a bunch of sides, and just recently a handful of new local beers on tap and in bottle to what was for years a rather lame (but COLD) offering of Bud, Shiner dark, and some megagag light or whatever. I came here w/my best friend & her clan after her father's funeral. We had a huge party so they had the whole back room reserved for us. When we walked in we are greeted by to huge animals that had been killed and stuffed. (See pics) then we waited in line to place our order. It is a very busy place a lunch time but I must say I don't know why?? I ordered the stuffed baked potato w/chopped beef (everything on it). It was an overcooked potato with a dab of cheese, sour cream, & white onions. Oh and of course the chopped beef. The very flavorless, chewy chopped beef. My bestie, Patti ordered chopped beef sandwich w/everything & smoked a/Mac-n- cheese. She took one bite of the Mac-n-cheese & said that's horrible. So my interest was peeked. I had to taste. Is all I could taste was smoke. Like they put way to much smoke flavor in the Mac-n-cheese. I must say in spite of the bad food they have a great atmosphere & are grand host. I wanted to show my Californian boyfriend BBQ done right, and Angelos has taken its place as the standard per our taste buds. \\ beef brisket sandwich - the brisket falls apart and melts in your mouth--it almost makes you angry because it just disappears - the pickles and onions cut through the grease and balance things out \\ ribs - these were some of the most tender ribs we'd tried - the BBQ sauce was tasty but was almost unnecessary because of how packed the ribs already were with smoky flavor In case you're wondering, it's on a street called White Settlement but is not in White Settlement itself. As an API, I felt safe here. Everyone was very friendly, and I didn't get any scowls for wearing a mask. If you find yourself in Fort Worth, don't miss a visit to Angelos! read more
