I was really looking forward to Smokey Bones. The one in my area of Fredericksburg closed and I enjoyed going. Wife and I are here ahead of comedy show at Veterans Growing America event which was good. Initial impression was favorable. Not loud chill mature crowd. I ordered their signature 1/2 rack ribs and was looking fwd to this. The ribs did not fall off the bone and I figured out why. The membrane was still on the ribs (see pic). Like this is BBQ Ribs 101, remove the membrane. On positive note the corn bread was ok. Definitely depended on the butter, without it the cornbread was ok. I also had the baked beans and brócoli both were very good. I ordered a Smoke Old Fashion w Angel Envy bc I saw the bottle at the bar. There server said they were out and I opted for a beer. Now the BAD. I had to use the restroom and noticed an order from the stall beside me and a man on all fours. I was wondering what was going on as he stood up rather quickly when. I walked in. Then another gentleman came in after me w a strong odor and started talking to the man in the stall. They were homeless. Not that I'm judging homeless people and I didn't even inform the staff. I did what I needed to do, washed my hands and spoke to the gentleman who came in behind me. After my meal I needed to wash my hands as I had sticky bbq sauce on my hands. About 30 mins after I went the first time and the homeless men were still in there. One was washing his face and idk what else in the sink. He kindly moved to the side when I came in so I could wash my hands. And I left. I saw another guest at the restaurant walk into the bathroom later and came out. Maybe he said something as the two homeless gents left out a little before I wife and I were. They really should get a handle on this issue or at least inform the patrons they have a liberal visitor policy. Doubtful I'll return. Hey people, I don't know why it took me so long to try Smokey Bones, but I finally I did. I love chicken wings; so I ordered smoked hot wings, and a house flavored wings. The hot wings were really hot. I had to stop eating them, for fear of an acid reflux attack. OMG any one who has not tried them, and love really spicy wings, you have to try Smokey Bones' hot wings. These were probably the worst baby back ribs I've ever had. They were extremely small, not meaty, and very dry. This was a to-go order, so perhaps I had to go eat in the store to actually get better looking ribs. I would save your money and go to mission bbq, they are bigger and better. It's been way too long since I've visited the location in Fredericksburg (I remember it being really good) but I'm sooooo glad we decided to stop in for dinner after our trek around IKEA lol! This location has all the vibes as that playlist was fire! Our waiter was so patient in answering our questions about the menu and very knowledgeable and helpful in making our food selections. My daughter is a wing girl like she could eat them daily so she ordered the smoked wings (4/5) smoked well and flavorful (they offer an array of sauces) and not pictured a side of mashed potatoes and gravy (she got them to share with our babygirl 5/5 seasoned gravy and served hot). My beloved mother (and food critic she might tell you a joke but never tell you a lie, lol.. hell she's 75 and has been cooking since she was 11 lol she knows good food) ordered the pulled pork Sammy with wedges both served piping hot and they didn't skimp on the meat (BBQ she added the NC sauce, meat tender and good smoked flavor 4.6/5 and wedges: cut and fried baked potatoes very crisp, lightly seasoned 3/5). They were running a European full rack special so I got that with a baked potato and baked beans (weird combo but I saved the potato for today lol) baby listen I'm not a huge rib girl but these were done very well, this cut was less meaty but flavorful, seasoned well and tender (4.6/5)! This is how great restaurants go out of business. We have been enjoying the smoked wings and what used to be the best buffalo chicken sandwich you could find. Not anymore. The quality and size of the wings and especially the sandwich have gone seriously down. My beautiful bride and I will be spending our BBQ time across the street at Famous Dave's going forward. :(. We order the Bonefire. It was good but not temperature hot. I guess the idea is to heat your items over the coal that is in your table grill, kind of like fondue. The flavor of the food and sauces were good. The 5 of so sauces were all very good. The service was ok. The young man that had our area was over worked. I really enjoyed my dinner. We came in around 4:30. There were a few people. Everyone is pleasant and relaxed. We ordered the BBQ crowd pleaser to start. It was really good! I loved the wings and nachos! We finished the whole thing! All of us ordered the ribs. My son and I both ordered the signature house smoked ribs. My husband ordered the imported baby back. Good evening, I placed an order tonight (11 Jan 2025) from Smokey Bones through Grubhub. The order consisted of ribs, chili, broccoli with cheddar, and Korean Poppers. When my order arrived up it did not contain the Korean Poppers but the bag had the proper seals on it. I called the restaurant and informed them about the missing poppers, the person informed me that certain portions of their kitchen were down due to a malfunction and they were unable to prepare certain orders that had to be fried, such as the Korean Poppers. I was then informed I would need to contact Grubhub to get my refund for something that is not Grubhub's fault!!! This is my issue: If I had come in for my order then I would have checked it and noticed that the poppers were not included and you would had to refund me on the spot. Grubhub delivery personnel cannot open the bag to check the order because that would break the seals and possibly void the entire order. So, Smokey Bones (Woodbridge) knowing they cannot fulfill all their third party delivery orders tonight decide to rip off their patrons by allowing us to place orders they cannot fulfill, then tell us to recoup our costs through the third party delivery service. What!?! If there is a failure in your kitchen, Your web site partnered with the delivery service should have been properly updated to notify customers certain items on the menu. are not available. For a business to take money knowing they cannot completely fulfill an order is diabolical! I had ordered from here today and asked for some butter. The worker was just on his phone playing on it and the person in the back threw the container of butter on the counter and the guy that was on his phone was supposed to turn to get the butter, but he was glued to his phone, not really professional, if I may say so myself. Wanted to take advantage of their $2 Bush beer special but was told that they were sold out. When asked what they were now substituting, was told "nothing." First time ever stopping here (ordered pick up) and customer service was SO TRASH if I could give negative stars I would. I pick up, check my bag and realized the ice cream was not included in my dessert so I go to check with the front guy and at first he says "ok...." and just stares at me....so I was like...did I get it wrong, doesn't this cake come with ice cream? Then he said yeah well we ran out of ice cream. I said well.....you don't have a voucher, discount, or communication letting me know it's out and giving the option to refund, Nothing??? He said oh let me go get the manager. After five minutes of them laughing in the back the manager comes and says what seems to be the problem? I repeat everything to him and ....Guys...this man looks at me and he just says ok......when I pointed out how there was no attempt of communication and how I would leave a review the manager then says he'll give me a free cheesecake but that he doesn't care about reviews.....At this point I'm like....why as the customer, who is at no fault and is even showing grace and a good attitude despite their unprofessionalism, why do I feel like I'm going above and beyond to get what I paid for LOL You Guys.... To make it all worse the food was disappointing. Ordered two different ribs, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, chocolate cake- the sauces to the ribs were good but the meat tasted like it had been microwaved from frozen, the Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were so gross and lacked flavored we ended up throwing them away. This place is ridiculous man. I paid over 50 dollars for two orders of 16 count smoked wings sweet glazed and my order included a smokehouse Mac brisket. First, all of the brisket in the smokehouse Mac was fatty pieces and no meat, it was disgusting and then it had a piece of bone in it, they literally put only fatty bits expecting someone to be okay with that? Ridiculous! Then, the wings! OH MY GOODNESS, so sad that this type of establishment is even continuing to stay in business with this much lack of attention to the damn food of all things!! About half of the wings in this order of 32 wings, I kid you not, had FEATHERS on the wings, and not just like one little feather on each one, I mean it was like on both sides of the wings and multiple feathers on each one that had feathers, almost like this was done as some sort of a joke! The feathers had been smoked but you could tell they were white feathers on the inside. Some of the wings still had blood inside, it was EXTREMELY disgusting and made us sick to our stomachs. I could taste it in my mouth after biting in. We were disgusted and gave up trying to eat the food. Again, freakin' RIDICULOUS. How unsanitary of you guys to serve this type of food to people!! I have only ever dined in, during dinner hours, so my experience is only going to be from that perspective. I can't speak for takeout quality. Smokey Bones is the #1 BBQ joint I have found in the area by far. It blows the competition out of the water. I have been here several times and have found the experience to be stellar every time. 1. SERVICE: I've seen some people complain about service here. I can say that while the staff seem to be mostly young college-age people, they are committed to making sure you're treated well. Food arrived quickly even during busy hours (Friday nights) and piping hot. Staff was attentive and eager to serve. 2. FOOD QUALITY: 9.5/10. I wish the garlic bread wasn't mini Texas Toast brand, it is flavorless. In-house made garlic bread would make a WORLD of difference. But who goes to a BBQ place for bread anyway?? I've had the ribs twice, and a burger. The ribs are STELLAR! They taste delicious and come right off the bone. The beef brisket is likewise very well prepared, and packs a lot of flavor! Do NOT underestimate the size of the burger. A double is HUGE. The triple is probably monstrous. Pros of the burger: they're grilled, so they taste like a good homemade backyard BBQ burger. Cons: "Medium" is "well done" in their book. Get medium rare for a better experience. Sides are generally tasty, I'd say the fire roasted corn is good. Fries are great, both regular and sweet potato. Broccoli is okay, could use some more spices. I specifically drive 30 minutes out of my way to come to Smokey Bones. This is the place I'd take friends and family for BBQ. Look no further! read more

If I could leave ZERO stars I would. We came for a late lunch and we were seated with a direct view into the kitchen. The kitchen staff was unhygienic, eating food directly over the food that they were plating. I observed the kitchen staff member eat his sandwich, lick his hands, and then immediately grab the plate for my food without washing his hands. To add to this, he again took a bite of his sandwich and then used his bare hands to sprinkle green onion garnish over ordered food. I did record all of this. Disgusted when the waiter brought the food out, I asked for the manager who walked past the kitchen staff so had plenty of opportunities to address and correct. The waitresses also walked in and out of that kitchen and no one thought to address this. As we walked out, I again spoke with the manager and communicated my disgust. She didn't seem to have a good grasp over the seriousness of this which led me to believe she didn't care or properly supervise her staff DON'T eat here if you expect a clean restaurant with good kitchen staff. Even the booths were filthy. Old straw and trash in booth seat, dirty table... just all around horrible experience. Famous Dave's is literally 2 minutes away. Go there instead! We did and glad I know now that places like Smoky Bones don't practice good health preventive measure or enforce hygiene protocols. read more

I believe it was a brioche bun, toasted perfectly (I asked for it to be toasted), the meat was juicy. Red onions came on the burger while the ketchup mustard and pickle came on the side. After I assembled it, I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed every bite. Anyhow, I will definitely be back there sometime in the next 7 days to try a more experimental burger or a platter, because when you can get BASICS right, the sky's the limit. I left happy. The donuts I've heard about before. They came 5 in a bag with the smoke escaping $4. Sweet, soft, delicious, and fresh. I can't compare it to any dessert. Normally, when you go to a barbecue joint, you expect to see some smokers or at least smell some barbecuing. This place doesn't provide that experience. The ribs tasted like they were just slathered with some barbeque sauce and warmed up on a grill. I was not impressed with this establishment. The excellent food is cooked to order. The waitstaff are THE best. But seriously, the food. It wouldn't be served at The Palm or Morton's , fair, but it's excellent and fairly priced, too!
