Great Food. Great Place. TLDR: Come get some food. If you want to have a good time and good with friends or family. Young or old. Come get some Smokey D'z BBQ. You will not be disappointed. Driving to the farthest southeastern bayou in Louisiana with no time to spare. We had to get there spend an hour. And turn around and head back to California. We knew we had to eat some Texas BBQ on our way back west. I looked up about 20 BBQ spots in the greater Dallas Area. After looking at pictures and seeing some reviews. We decided Smokey D's would be our spot. We were correct. We pulled in to the parking lot and saw a Soul Circles Pizza Kitchen next door. And we love trying an inventive twist on pizza. But we stuck to our guns. And headed to Smokey D'z BBQ. Greeted before we even made it inside. I honestly don't even know if it was an employee or just another patron with a welcoming vibe. Greeted again as we entered. When someone is excited to see you coming to eat at their establishment it is a good sign. Similar to showing up at Grandmas house for dinner. You know you're eating good food and leaving with a full belly. Another enthusiastic employee welcomed us at the counter and helped us put together the perfect order. As we found a place to sit. We saw families. Friends. Couples. Elderly, Middle Aged and children all chowing down. Enjoying their loaded plates. We also noticed a live band setting up. WHAT! I know. I wish we had more time. We were checked on. Our food came out and it was great. Ribs. Brisket. Potato salad. Collard Greens (bomb add collard greens). We stuffed our faces. Again we were checked on at the perfect time. We needed some water refills. The ribs and brisket was not smothered in BBQ. You could taste the patience to season and cook the meat to perfection. A side of BbQ was provided as well, if that's your preferred way to eat. The collard greens. I cannot tell you how good they are. A little local place on Georgia used to have my second favorite green, my wife's are #1. But now Smokey D's is the new number 2. As an older couple and their friends arrived. They were greeted. Brought to a table and cared for in the same way I was. This was clearly the standard set forth here. Helped The owner of Soul Circles Pizza Kitchen stopped by out table as well as others. He told us about his personal spin on and Smokey D'z stopped by our table. He let us know the brisket from Smokey D'z is on the pizza as well. The owner of Smokey D'z stopped at our table and others. Asked us about our meal. But more than that. They asked about us. Even the Chef/Pitmaster came out. Talked to a couple tables. Asked about or BBQ meal. I really started to think I was at my own families restaurant. The vibe was come eat. Come smile. Come laugh. Enjoy some music. Share time with each other. As the band began to play we unfortunately had to get back on the road. We still had 24 hours of non stop driving ahead of us. After a great meal. Great hosts. I snapped some photos so I could give a review. And... We headed out. Thank You Smokey D'z. It was great.

    Horrible horrible...

The staff is friendly! I love great customer service! Please be nice to me. I order the one meat bake potato. Yes lord!!!!!! It was good. I just need more butter I think I am being a big back but who cares! I want more butter. The rib was cooked to perfection. I was over her acting like I was Myron Nixon from Barbecue Pit Masters talking about the tug. The place is cozy and packed but the service and food is top notch. The only reason I didn't give it a five is because I want butter and more barbecue sauce. Big girl problems

Visiting Dallas from NY and told my friends I wanted to support a black owned bbq spot. This restaurant was where they took me too. Well let me tell you what we ordered. We planned to share, so we ordered a lot of things. We had brisket, ribs, chicken, pulled pork, cole slaw, baked beans, potato salad, and mac and cheese. The cole slaw to a while to come because according to the waitress, it is made to order. Well honey, that cole slaw had the entire salt of Gibraltar. This black girl does not need a heart attack from eating too salty slaw. The crazy thing is I felt everything else was under seasoned. I will say the waitress was very kind and let me sample the sides. The place is cute but many of the tables were not clean.

I like the location and the spot was a little cozy place with good music and great atmosphere. The food was good but the potato was awesome and so full of everything. I really enjoyed the taste the flavor of all the food we had. The kook aid was good but it tasted like it had alcohol so I could not finish it. I felt a rush coming along lol. The service was ok could have been a bit more friendly and smiled more the vibe felt unreal and not too welcoming. Overall it is as good as they say differently coming back.

The customer service was overall good. The food was okay it wasnt as great. We paid for a large peach cobbler & they claim to have given us the " rest" , we drove 30 mins there just to go home to the peach cobbler being less than the large that we had paid for. we will not be returning

A little lunch after church and we stumbled upon this place. My wife and I shared a great meal. Food was very good, all the right flavors. Sorry was supposed to take a picture but I was hungry. Server/owner came around and asked how we were doing at least four times during our visit. Very attentive and friendly. I liked all the meats we shared and the collard greens and sweet potato fries were highlights along with the peach cobbler. Great atmosphere with football on the tvs and some good r&b music playing in the background. Looks like they might have open mic nights or live music here from time to time. We will be back.

The food was amazing! Really hit the spot and was exactly what I would expect for good local Texas BBQ! Got the 3 meat plate - sliced brisket, pulled pork, cheddar jalapeño sausage, potato salad and fried okra, every bite was amazing! Recommend!

2 Meat Plate&Sides: Sliced Beef&Sausage with side of Potato Salad &Baked Beans

Tried this place awhile back. Not only was I disappointed my kids and hubs too. Nope, nope, nope. First and last time will we try this place. Our whole meals went to the trash. Really wanted to like it. We wanted Bbq, But just wasn't it. Figured ehh what can go wrong with sides (those were last to try) but nope my potato salad was so oniony! My beans as well. If you like your sides to taste more oniony than anything! Then buddy this is for you. Our meats, nope just couldn't finish any of it. Just went to the trash and I hated to waste our food. Just wasn't good. A few bites was all it took. Wish Odom's would be opened when it's states they're opened. Ugh! Such a waste..

    Brisket and Pork Rib plate.

This has to be one of the best sliced brisket and pork rib plates I have ever had. Everything was very flavorful with a perfect combination of smoke and seasoning. The baked beans and potato salad were also a hit. Unfortunately I'm just passing through town or this would certainly be my favorite go to bbq spot!

Let me just start with the staff was hands down friendly. I walked in everyone greated me they were so sweet. The food was good fresh made to order. I would definitely go back.

There's a huge yard out back with plenty of picnic tables, which makes it perfect for hanging out when the weather's nice. Inside, the space is small, comfy, and neat. It feels well put together without trying too hard. There's even a fireplace that adds a nice touch--no idea if it's actually working, but it fits the vibe. The staff here really stands out. Super friendly, very polite, and they keep things simple--you order at the corner, grab a seat, and they bring the food out to you. Easy and efficient. I went with the brisket taco, and it delivers. This isn't a tiny street taco--it's loaded. You get brisket, salsa negra, avocado crema, and pickled onions. The balance works really well. The salsa brings some acidity to cut through the fat, while the crema smooths everything out. Every bite comes together nicely. As for the brisket itself, the seasoning is solid but not overly aggressive. Personally, I'd like a bit more bark--it was a little thin for my taste. That said, the smoke ring is very prominent, and you can taste that deeper smoke flavor. Texture-wise, it was very tender--easily cut with a plastic fork. I did catch it later in the afternoon, and the lean slices were just a bit on the dry side for me. Overall, the vibe here is awesome and the tacos are legit. This is a spot I'll definitely be coming back to--looking forward to giving the brisket another shot, plus trying the pork ribs and some sides.

The ribs are done very well with a good amount of smoke put on them; even if the ends lacked some juiciness the flavor made more than up for them being a bit tough. The spicy sausage I also ordered only to find out after sampling some from my box (awaiting coworkers) is made IN HOUSE with Mr. Dave's recipe!! Spicy juicy and extremely tasty! The sauce appears and from the taste lends itself to a thicker, ketchup and molasses based sauce with some kick and a solid shot of black pepper. I liked it quite a bit and even dipped the dryer rib portions in. This is where I think when I heat these up I will baste on some sauce and hit them in the broiler to put some wet / glaze into them. We all enjoyed our selections and I've been told by coworkers the potato salad is spot on, but the greens were flat. All in all not enough to take a point. It's BBQ, not a side factory. ;)

Brisket, pork ribs, jalapeño sausage. No regrets. The brisket was the star. Deep, dark bark with a heavy pepper kick that hit right away. Perfect smoke ring. Tender without falling apart. Juicy without being greasy. Every bite had that rich, smoky flavor that separates good BBQ from the real deal. The ribs were solid. Great flavor, nice bite, but leaned a little heavy on the smoke for me. Not a deal breaker, just noticeable. Still very good and worth ordering. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was a win. Juicy, packed with flavor, and just enough heat to keep things interesting without overpowering everything else. Then the surprise... the sweet potato casserole. That thing deserves its own review. Rich, slightly sweet, and those candied pecans on top took it to another level. Not an afterthought side, this was legit. Bottom line... Smokey Joe's is the kind of place BBQ people talk about when they say "you've gotta try this spot." It absolutely holds its own among the best in Texas, especially outside that elite Top 10 tier.
