I stopped by after finding this BBQ spot on Yelp, originally planning to order the loaded baked potato I saw online. After seeing one come out of the kitchen, I quickly realized it was massive and way more food than I wanted, so I switched to the one-meat, two-side plate with brisket, greens, and potato salad. The first thing that stood out was the customer service. The young lady at the register was absolutely wonderful--friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely professional. She made ordering easy and set a great tone for the entire visit. Top-tier customer service is becoming rare, and she definitely deserves recognition. As for the food, the brisket was good, and overall the meal was enjoyable. For my personal taste, everything was a bit over-seasoned, especially the greens, which had a strong liquid smoke flavor. That said, I should also mention that I haven't eaten heavily seasoned Southern-style food in quite a while, so my palate is much more sensitive than it used to be. Someone who loves bold, smoky flavors may enjoy it much more than I did. One thing I absolutely loved was discovering that this is actually two businesses sharing one space with Soul Pizza Kitchen. I think that's a beautiful example of collaboration, community, and entrepreneurship. The pizza menu looked incredibly creative, and I'll definitely come back to try one of those soul-inspired pizzas. I was in Dallas for about 48 hours and knew I had to try some barbecue while running errands. I came across this spot in a shopping center right near where I needed to be, checked the reviews, and decided to give it a shot and I'm so glad I did. As soon as I walked in, who I believe was the owner greeted me and was one of the kindest, most welcoming people I've met. He took the time to walk me through the menu and answer my questions, which I really appreciated. I ended up ordering one of their loaded potatoes with pulled pork and beef, and it was incredible (you get a good amount of meat) honestly this potato was big enough for two people to share. I also tried the mac and cheese and green beans soooo good! I didn't finish most of it, but only because I had to get back to work I knew if I ate the whole thing, I wouldn't get anything done after! That's how filling it was. The atmosphere was great too. Plenty of seating, multiple TVs playing NCAA games very welcoming vibe. There was a steady flow of takeout orders I can imagine this place gets pretty busy on weekends. As someone from Los Angeles, it was really refreshing to experience such genuine hospitality. Went for a lunch with my dad and was not disappointed from the recommendation that guys gave at the barbershop. The brisket was amazing! On Thursdays they happen to have a $10 special where you can get a sandwich and a side and me and my dad ordered one for there and one for to go For sides, I had the collard greens which were delicious and the potato salad which had an interesting tangled to it, but I enjoyed it. I don't think we'll be trying this place again. We came in on a Sunday when there was only one other person in line. We were barely greeted - it seemed forced at best. The lady behind the counter didn't seem like she even wanted to take our order. After we ordered, we waited for a short time for the food which was decent but nothing special - the fries were good, the sausage was ok, and the rib tips were so-so. But we stuck to our guns. And headed to Smokey D'z BBQ. Greeted before we even made it inside. I honestly don't even know if it was an employee or just another patron with a welcoming vibe. Greeted again as we entered. When someone is excited to see you coming to eat at their establishment it is a good sign. Similar to showing up at Grandmas house for dinner. You know you're eating good food and leaving with a full belly. Another enthusiastic employee welcomed us at the counter and helped us put together the perfect order. As we found a place to sit. We saw families. Friends. Couples. Elderly, Middle Aged and children all chowing down. Enjoying their loaded plates. We also noticed a live band setting up. WHAT! I know. I wish we had more time. We were checked on. Our food came out and it was great. Ribs. Brisket. Potato salad. Collard Greens (bomb add collard greens). We stuffed our faces. Again we were checked on at the perfect time. We needed some water refills. The ribs and brisket was not smothered in BBQ. You could taste the patience to season and cook the meat to perfection. A side of BbQ was provided as well, if that's your preferred way to eat. The collard greens. I cannot tell you how good they are. A little local place on Georgia used to have my second favorite green, my wife's are #1. But now Smokey D's is the new number 2. As an older couple and their friends arrived. They were greeted. Brought to a table and cared for in the same way I was. This was clearly the standard set forth here. Helped The owner of Soul Circles Pizza Kitchen stopped by out table as well as others. He told us about his personal spin on and Smokey D'z stopped by our table. He let us know the brisket from Smokey D'z is on the pizza as well. The owner of Smokey D'z stopped at our table and others. Asked us about our meal. But more than that. They asked about us. Even the Chef/Pitmaster came out. Talked to a couple tables. Asked about or BBQ meal. I really started to think I was at my own families restaurant. The vibe was come eat. Come smile. Come laugh. Enjoy some music. Share time with each other. As the band began to play we unfortunately had to get back on the road. We still had 24 hours of non stop driving ahead of us. After a great meal. Great hosts. From the dirt stain at the front door told me that this was a nasty restaurant. Everything from the order counter to the dinning room tables were very sticky feeling. Even the plastic bag with my takeout order was sticky. Meat was flavorless, sandwich bread was soaked with oil/grease. We spent $100 and got 1# each of Beef ribs, brisket, sides were: Mac and cheese, fried okra, baked beans, greens, some Texas toast butter bread, and some banana pudding. Meat was smoked heavenly and they did give us 16oz of bbq sauce to put on our meat as we desired. Which I like bc I hate messy messy bbq. My husband on the other hand loves it. So I appreciated the compromise. The fried okra was our favorite. The breading was BOMB. My only issue was that the banana pudding was absolutely rush made and they had no bananas in them. The greens had a hint of spice which was nice although I found myself coughing from the spice at times, I'm a spice weakling lol.
