We are just leaving Smokey Mo's off of 183. What a disappointment! The cream corn was good but the ribs were AWFUL. They were full of cartilage making them very difficult to eat. The meat was stuck so tightly to the bones that we had to resort to caveman manners. So... Smokey Mo's is off our after church places to go. So sad. read more

Had breakfast taco here today. They were nasty, cold and couldn't eat them. There was so much liquid in the beans it made the tortilla soggy. Very disappointing. We should have known the quality had gone down with the attitude of the workers. They didn't want to be at work there was no great g, no smiles and barely a thank you. read more

Excellent, excellent excellent probably the best barbecue. I've had anywhere including Rudy's and other high-end places that were supposed to be so good. At Smoky Mo's there was actually a smoke ring all through the meat and you didn't even need barbecue sauce for flavor. At most places, you usually don't even see a smoke ring and you have to use barbecue sauce. Excellent dining experience great folks at the one there at liberty Hill and we had tried one on down the road at 35 and 29 which was OK but this one at liberty Hill was absolutely great and we've been back twice. It's average Texas BBQ. Nothing will wow you, but if you want consistently decent BBQ and sides, this is a place to stop in. Avoid the pork ribs - they're always over cooked. Try the green beans, though, as not everywhere carries them. read more

The Jalapeño Sausage was amazing, but the Brisket was EXTREMELY dry and had no real flavor. I need me the peppered ends and the bark on it. It was good for a last minute UberEats delivery while working out of town. I would've rated it higher if the Brisket was better. read more

Perfectly acceptable breakfast tacos, especially if you're heading out of the Austin area on 183 North. I stopped in Saturday morning while heading to Abilene for two tacos and a drink. My brisket and cheese tacos were good. While nothing to write home about, the tacos were good enough, especially since the brisket was likely chopped to order and not premade in sauce. Speaking of which -- I'd have liked some BBQ sauce as an option in the morning. However, the salsa not the usual food service variety and had some heat to it. Is it worth going out of your way for? Well we won't be buying breakfast tacos here anymore. Mrs. Texas is very particular about her breakfast tacos, as she hates cheese on her breakfast tacos. I called in and ordered two bacon, egg, and cheese tacos which they got right, and they were mine. I also ordered two potato, bacon, and egg tacos for Mrs. Texas, which were totally wrong. We live eight miles away so I wasn't driving back. The wrong tacos were potato, cheese, and egg. Mrs. Texas couldn't eat them as the cheese was covering the eggs and potatoes and of course there was no bacon. The young female cashier didn't make me feel welcomed when I arrived, or appreciated when she handed me my order, and she certainly displayed an attitude of could care less if I was there or not. Again, we won't be back and I'm not driving eight miles for a refund. We will stick with Rudy's though it's a sixteen mile drive for their breakfast tacos and they certainly make you feel welcome and appreciate their customers. read more

MY STOOL HAS BLOOD IN IT: I ordered food from this restaurant the first Saturday of the new year. My stomach felt heavy and a bit disturbed after I ate but very mild symptoms that day. By Sunday morning, I was rushing to the bathroom every fifteen minutes--diarrhea, and it's painful. Sunday morning I am gravely dehydrated, disoriented, and nauseous. By Sunday night, blood started to regularly show itself in my mostly clear stool. I went to the EMERGENCY ROOM. The doctor concluded I have a GASTROINTESTINAL INFECTION, possibly something like E.Coli. In other words, he stated I have a bad case of FOOD POISONING. It's currently the late morning on Tuesday. Visited Smokey Mo's BBQ on a work trip with a local from University of Texas. When we pulled up I saw big SUVs and trucks everywhere and a few police SUV's. I was not in Tampa any more... I walked in to a friendly group at a walk up counter where you order plates or sandwiches, etc. I went with a brisket and chicken plate with a side of slaw and fried okra. The plate came out quickly and before I knew it my okra was gone. Yummy!!! The chicken and brisket were served with a huge side of bbq sauce plus there was tons on the table. The one thing I know about this place is that they want you to have plenty of bbq sauce! My chicken and brisket portions were sizable and the brisket was my favorite, it was very lean. They also ship BBQ sauce anyplace in the US. I would definitely return to Smokey Mo's for another visit if I am ever in the area again. read more

Smokey Mo's is always good. The only BBQ I've found any better is Blacks in Lockhart. And I'll guarantee it better then Cooper's in a blind taste test any day! I have been to other locations which are better. My brisket was very dry and not even warm. My husband had the ribs and chicken. He said it tasted like it was cooked yesterday and heated up again. Not fresh. My husband loves BBQ and he hated this place. And now his tummy is upset :(. read more

I should have read reviews before ordering. The brisket was good and the sauce was good. Potato salad was yummy and my dad liked the coleslaw. Our chicken wasn't cooked. It was completely pink. We couldn't finish our meal and because it was delivered not much to be done about it. The guy working told us it is a mixture of meat, usually everything left over from the day before, chopped, and BBQ sauce added. Their barbecue is always tender and cooked to perfection! Customer service has always been polite and speedy.

First time here and looking at the menu it is vast for a bbq joint including breakfast tacos and hamburgers. I ordered 1/4 Brisket a link of sausage and 1 pork rib to get a taste. The plate came out pretty healthy and I was surprised they gave me some nice brisket fatty and lean. Brisket was moist and decent. Not huge on flavor but cooked well and the BBQ sauce they have pairs well and unfortunately needed to elevate the flavor. I'm sure the brisket sandwich is great. I also ordered a link of sausage which is good but reminds me of a dressed up eckridge sausage. It is good but nothing special or unique to bring you back. The rib was cooked well no real flavor here , a little bit of black pepper would go a long way. It seems like they are just smoked not really seasoned. The sauce is good very tomato based got a little kick and definitely helped all the meats. Overall the Q is not bad jut not above average either for its geographical area. I'd eat here again to try some other items and give it a second look. Give it a try and see what you think. It is a neat little place , clean nice staff and organized. read more

I'm a long long time customer. 15+ years at the Liberty Hill location. I was in there a few weeks ago and ordered some BBQ and 4 pints is sides. When I got home I only had 2 pints. They left out 2 sides. No big deal, I'm in there all the time. I'll just tell them the next time I come in. So I go there tonight and order 2 of the 3 meat combo meals and I told them about getting shorted the last time I was there and they refused to give me 2 pints of side items. What kind of customer service is that. Needless to say I didn't get my dinner. I walked out and I'll never go back. Looks like Mo sold out and they've gone corporate and don't care about customer service anymore. read more

Ordered sliced beef sandwich, which turned out to be lean and juicy. BBQ sauce has a tang and is tasty. Beans are pintos, with a little beefy thrown in for taste. The beans are a little spicy. It's pretty hot in here. Looks like maybe one swamp cooler for the place. If you can't handle the heat...you get the picture! Called before we came to make sure it was open and they were friendly on the phone and, indeed, friendly in person! Good place to stop while making a trip home, but wouldn't actually make a trip solely for the purpose of eating here. read more

Never again!! Last night my wife got me a to-go order sliced brisket/sausage plate. Let's start with the good - the jalapeno sausage. I should have just gotten this. Now the bad - the sliced brisket. When you open the box and you see no sliced brisket. It was more chopped than anything. The bark was so hard and dry that when they sliced it, it just pulled everything apart. The 1st bite of the bark actually stabbed the inside of my mouth (had to spit it out). Half of the brisket was completely unedible!! I wish I would have taken a pic of this. To me, the slicer should have known not to serve this out like this!!! I am all about supporting local but..... smh!!! read more
