Good People this spot is nostalgic for me. I've been going here since I was 15. I was in the neighborhood, so I figured WHY NOT!! I only ever get one meal...LET'S GO to Smokey's!! . This is a hidden gem of NW DC. Whenever I sneak away from my office and head uptown, Ms Angela Lee is there with a smiling face. She knows some folks by name. She recognizes me only because I come there once or twice a month. This is not a place that you want to come to if you're watching your weight - but the food is good. The wings and potatoes are seasoned nicely then cooked in a pressure cooker! Yum! Yum! Yum! Make sure you get mumbo sauce for the wings. It's a staple in many dc carry outs. This stuff is delicious!

The tiny little place with four seats and greasy orange floors has been in the Washington Post. Let that speak to the merit of the mumbo sauce and the crunchiest chicken wings and potato wedges. The owner has been working there about 15 years, but the restaurant itself has been in the family for about 47 years. Being from out of state, I had no idea what in the world mumbo sauce was, but boy am I glad I do now. Smoky's makes some of the best mumbo sauce out there! They make it in house and it's fantastic on the wings and potato wedges. There aren't a lot of people sitting in the place, but if there are, they're usually regulars. The line goes out the door though, people love taking their food elsewhere to nosh and get greasy, I'm guessing the privacy of their own homes. Definitely stay and strike up a conversation with one of the cute little ladies that work there though!

Reminded me of back home. Western omelette with home fries. Eggs were soft. Potatoes on point.

Best breakfast and friend chicken wings in town. You can go to some fancy place to have brunch. But this place wins my heart with their chicken and waffles. Eggs are alway fluffy. And the owner's daughter always greets you when you walk in.

First visit, and it definitely won't be my last…read more We stopped in and ordered a Philly with provolone (subbed for Cheese Whiz and added lettuce) and the Faroe Island sandwich. Both were excellent and packed with flavor. The real test for me was the drive home. I live about 40 minutes away, so I didn't get to eat my sandwich right away. To my surprise, it was still warm when I got home and just as good as if I had eaten it there. That's not something you can say about most sandwiches. The fries were a pleasant surprise as well. Crispy, flavorful, and addicting enough that they barely survived the ride home. Beyond the food, I really enjoyed the shop itself. There was a great selection of specialty meats, seasonings, sauces, and unique items that made me want to take my time and look around. The place was packed, which is usually a good sign, and after trying the food, I completely understand why. It's not often that a first visit lives up to the hype, but this one did. Great food, a well-curated shop, and absolutely worth the drive. Looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu.

And the cheesesteak was soo rich and decadent. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. The fries were also awesome. We were able to sit outside on the small benches and eat our sandwiches there. However, there is really not much seating. I think most people take their food to go.

I live ~10 min drive north from this location. This is my second time coming for a private event…read moreand both times I've come, I've said out loud, "I should order takeout from them once a week!!" They operate a deli counter in the front and a bar / speakeasy in the back. You can rent out the bar space for private events. Last night, we had the space (and a bartender!) to ourselves, along with 3-4 different types of sandwiches. There is something SPECIAL about their seeded Italian bread. The perfect flakiness and texture. I enjoyed the chicken fontina and Italian. The caprese was my least favorite--not sure if they use a balsamic or what, but the flavor wasn't coming through. Before I left, I decided to order a large chicken cheesesteak to take home for lunch the next day. It was a bit of a risk to order a hot sandwich that I would have in the fridge overnight but I heated it up in our air fryer/toaster oven for all of 10 mins and the bread was good (not soggy) and the sandwich itself was delicious. I enjoyed it so much, I didn't stop to take a photo until the last bite :) It's a decent size sandwich--I ate half for lunch (along with my own chips and veggies) and have another half for tomorrow so while it's not cheap, I think it's reasonable.

This place fell way off…read more I was fooled by social media and ordered their Thanksgiving sub... false advertising. Did not look like the video - all bread and extremely SKIMPY. The worst part is they charged me nearly $20 for that abomination. What a rip off. I thought they were decent pre-covid, but apparently they just don't seem to care anymore. Other places make loaded sandwiches... save your money!!

I was looking for food in Northeast. This relatively new pizza place had a small takeout deal, so I…read moregave it a shot. The interior is oddly dark but did have some interesting local flavor in the decor. The actual food was the problem. A garlic bread was one of those with a pizza crust and a ton of cheese rather than being a loaf of bread. I bit into it to discover something hard that didn't taste like bread. Turned out to be a shard of plastic, which could have been dangerous if I'd actually eaten it. Continuing with the bread yielded an oddly crunchy texture like sand or something in there. Something really wasn't right here; like whoever made this was seriously negligent in a way that I don't often observe despite eating out at a diverse variety of places. I ended up throwing the bread out. They offer some Indian-infused options as well, and I didn't have any problems with their samosas, which tasted legit. The chaat form had a lot of samosas and not a ton of chickpeas or toppings, which I found a little odd; normally in a samosa chaat you struggle to even see the samosa under the chickpeas. I ordered a regular margherita pizza, which purportedly had buffalo mozzarella. This is an expensive imported cheese, and I don't think I've ever seen that much of it on a pizza. It was ludicrously filling, and I had only a couple of slices and didn't finish much of it the night I got it. I'll store it for future use. From something in there, whether it be the bread or the sauce, I felt I got a ton of salt and was jittery and often in the bathroom the night after. Just not a good experience overall. I'm not sure what went wrong or if this is their typical level of quality, but I'd have to be convinced to come back and try them again. There may be some quality there, but I would also note that the neighborhood is known for another pizza shop just down the road (Timber), which offers less filling portions but also high quality food with nice salads, and I've never had a problem there.
