If you want amazing, and I mean amazing barbecue, this is the place! Everything I have ordered has been delish! The portions are generous and the flavor is out of this world. Every mouthful is as good as the first. They have pork, beef and chicken done up the way barbecue should be. Look them up online and check out their menu! I don't know why more people are not raving about this place! The staff and owner are super friendly and there is always parking. We usually order take out and what you will notice is how loaded these take out boxes are. Today, I had their chicken sando with lemon pepper buffalo sauce. Amazing! Tried the tri tip sandwich and the meat was a little tough and I couldn't taste the smoke. The owner came by and asked me how it was so I told him and he brought me a sample of brisket smoked nicely. The tri tip is only smoked 1.5 hours and brisket 16 hours so I recommend the brisket plate next time. read more

This was my second visit and I found that their food and service is very consistent for weekday lunches. They wait for your order is not very long and it's nice that there are TVs in the food court to pass the time. I got the pulled pork this visit and was a little disappointed. I felt like it lacked smoke and needed some salt or apple cider vinegar to complement the meat. The pulled pork was very tender and juicy, but could hav me used some more seasoning to make it pop on the flavor scale. My coworkers got the brisket plate and also agreed that it lacked smoke. It was also very moist and tender, but could have been better. The beans were great for them. I had their Mac salad and fries and think they were good, but nothing to write home about. They serve sauce on the side as a bbq joint should, to let their meat shine. But their sauce doesn't not complement their pulled pork well, maybe add a sweeter sauce to the menu for those of us that enjoy mainstream Kansas City Style BBQ? I really enjoyed my chicken and waffles this morning, the chicken was thick and juicy and the dry rub gave it a smoky and spicy taste, and my waffles were light and fluffy with a slight airy crunch, almost reminiscent to a churro. My girlfriend also enjoyed her pulled pork sandwich, she liked the tenderness of the meat and the sauce that came with it, she is a petite woman who always eats half her meals and saves them for later, however today was an exception, she even asked for some of my food. I like this place. My fiancé got the tri tip plate which i think was a bit skimpy on the tri tip but with beef prices these days, I get it! It had a nice Smokey sauce to go with the tri tip. the tri tip was good but a bit dry but fell apart at least. We ordered the bacon cheese wedges with jalapeñso. It had nice chunky pieces of jalap in it that were fire! It was drenched in cheese! Delic! I got a smash burger and reg fries. def delic! I live in Oxnard and, for the first time, ordered food from Smokin Jays. I must admit I thought the food looked so good from the pictures on Yelp, I decided to give it a try. BIG MISTAKE! Ordered the brisket with fries. Asked for the sauces on the side as I wanted to heat up the dish at home and then add the sauces so the fries would not be mushy. They would not do it and Yes, the fries were very mushy! Not good at all, especially for what I paid for it! For the quality of the food it is extremely expensive! They do have large portions but large portions do not equate with good taste. Poor customer service! I , sadly, will not be coming back nor will I recommend eating here. read more

Just had the best best dinners today! The wings I tried their wet sauce that was the sweet and spicy option and OMG I can't deny that these were the best wings I have ever had ! I'm giving them a 3 for good quality food, -2 for the portions of the sides which were quite laughable . The way I see it is that I paid $21 for a piece of chicken and 2 slices of bread , although quite good , not worth the price . Every BbQ place has their own "special" Bbq sauce , this place is no different . The first flavor I got from their sauce was that unmistakable essence you get from a glass of water in most restaurants that seems to border between 100 year old pipes and chlorine to try to hide the taste . Once I got through the initial blast of unpleasant flavors , I got tangy and sweet which mysteriously blended well with the chicken in the end, who knew? But Not really my cup of tea. The bread was soaked with butter, but made the bread soggy . The chicken was exceptionally seasoned, but overpriced. If the sides were larger , meaning I can't finish the beans with one spoonful, and same goes for the mac, then I think it may warrant the $21 price tag, but until then , I'll be driving right passed Smokin Jays Bbq. read more

Ohhh my gahhh!!! My mouth is watering writing the review. I always saw their posts on social and finally decided to give them a try. I wanted to try as much as I could eat. The brisket plate 5/5 ! Brisket was tender and moist, it was so flavorful! The Mac salad was perfect not too much Mayo, the bbq sauce was amazing too. The pulled pork was also surprisingly moist and tender too. Most pulled pork around town has been disappointing. So to get a perfectly prepared pulled pork is amazing. The jumbo shrimp skewers were a highlight it was a special for the day, but the shrimp had the perfect amount of seasoning , cooked perfectly, only thing is if they made it a plate with rice and a lemon wedge I would've paid for that too. I don't know what happened to the old Smokin Jay's. I remember this place used to have the best chicken sandwiches back in the times of Casa Agria, during covid, and even up to last year. Tried it again today and nothing seems to be the same. The fries are generic and not like they used to make them. The chicken is watery (not juicy) and almost seemed undercooked/spongy in the thicker parts of the chicken sandwich, we didn't even end up finishing our sandwiches because of how gross they felt/tasted. It's like you could taste the water from improper frying. The spicy levels are weak now, you can't even taste the heat of kiss of death. Tried the fried pickles and truffle fries and they were a disappointment too. I hate writing a bad review but the current quality of the food for the price is not worth it in my opinion. read more

I want to love this place and don't get me wrong the food has so much potential but why is my food cold ? Ordered the pulled pork and it the meat was cold. Ordered Brisket and the meat was cold. Ordered the mac and cheese and the mac was cold. The only thing that was warm was my hot chicken tenders. Again don't get me wrong because the Pulled pork and the brisket were cooked very well but they were both cold. There's no way I am the only one who got cold meats. The service was good and quick. The seating is food court style and there was plenty of seating. The restaurant was semi busy. They were sold out in a few things. The price was decent for our food. But again the food was cold !? It was about 7pm on a friday night and I only live 1/4 mile away. There's no way my food got that cold by the time I got home. I'm flabbergasted lol. So other then my food being cold it was tasty. The once thriving food court is now down to two restaurants. Smokin Jays is the story here. We had the Tri Tip sand w fries. Was so good I almost chewed my fingers off when I reached them. And let me tell you this...in a world of crappy fries of all kinds Jays has the BEST FRIES ON THE PLANET! Crinkle cuts cooked to a golden brown baby! No BS seasoning or limp ass shoestrings. Really good food and good portion sizes. There is a huge variety of the food as well. The location is not that great though, very limited parking. The prices may seem a bit high but I think it's worth it. You will more than likely have left overs though because they sure pack the food! Last weekend we visited Smokin Jays restaurant for the first time. I am always on the look out for my favorite foods since we moved to the Chanel Islands area last June. I was after a dish featured in a previous review. It showed a meal that featured both lobster and brisket ! My favorite surf & turf cuisine . When we got there we found a mass of people waiting to order from a large menu board behind the counter. It featured a running list of casual dinning favorites. But the lobster and brisket combo wasn't on the menu. My husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich which was awesome & I locating at least one of my two favorites ordered the brisket sandwich which for me was disappointing . There was plenty to eat on both sandwich plates which were accompanied by a large mass of nicely done fries. The fries had a slight kick to them and were crunchy and quite good.The sandwich roll was very good. For me raised on perfectly done Kosher style brisket ,this was not what i expected. I was hoping for solid slices of juicy meaty brisket, but what I got was tasty but too fatty for me. The taste of the meat was good but too much fat left on the meat ruined the real taste and consistency of leaner brisket I had eaten growing up on the East Coast. The Pulled pork sandwich my husband ordered was generous, not at all fatty and awesome.
