It's on the pricey side but it's a better choice than McDonald's so, there's that. I've only had the burgers here, they're ok. I'll try the corn burritos next time but it's hard to come here when it's so expensive of a place. The neighborhood seems safe enough and parking is sometimes an issue, the lot is small but there's room on the street. They do have a restroom around the back of the building you'll need to ask for access to, fairly clean for what it is. The chili fries aren't anything special, the fry's in general are just ok - the burgers are really good though. In all, we'll try a few more dishes but again, pricey to come here so keep that in mind. I'm all for supporting small business over a chain any day of the week. read more

I recently visited B&J Drive-In in Saticoy to check out their renowned corn burritos. Several folks on Facebook's "I Love Corn Burritos" group have opined that these burritos are the best in town. B&J's menu proudly proclaims their corn burritos as "#1 in Ventura County," which is presumably the result of winning some VC Reporter "best of Ventura" reader poll. An order of four corn burritos costs $7.49. They took about 25 minutes to prepare. They are larger in girth than the Fosters Freeze corn burritos, and thus hold more refried beans. Their red sauce is spicy and distinctive with just a little more vinegar than I would consider optimal. Bare bones presentation with sauce and grated cheese and nothing else. Nice paper container (not styrofoam). See pictures. The chocolate shake was also well made and satisfying. This beloved local institution has been here for a couple generations. It's clean, well run and friendly. The owner was kind and friendly to my dog. I'd come back any time. And they have a new location on Main Street in midtown Ventura now. read more

So long that the last time I was there, they were serving piping hot corn burritos in styrofoam containers, where they'd burn holes through the bottom and you didn't know wether you were consuming melted foam or not. Anyways, I got a craving for some again, thinking ok, let's see what fuckery we have now. First glance when getting my corn burritos, was looking good, they came in a cardboard like material food box, no melting going on with that. Opened it up, and saw nothing but cheese, which was a plus. Times before you'd think the amount of cheese they put on the burritos came out of their checks, super stingy, not nearly enough. Iv tried a few items. The asada fries were good but beware: the regular asada fries only come with cheese, asada, and the fries. For 13.99 that's very steep. The fries are good, definitely frozen fries but over all good but not worth the 14 dollars. The old town burger is great! Definitely try this over the asada fries. The burger has a nice taste due to the bbq sauce they add. The fries are the same ones On the asad fries. Ranch is extra and does not come with anything from the menu. It's located right off a busy highway, but surprisingly the area you order and eat is quiet and peaceful which makes it a great lunch/ date area. I had ordered their famous Corn Burritos without red sauce. Unfortunately the first order came with sauce. They replaced them as fast as they could during their busy lunch time. The second order had red sauce and were replaced. Now this time when I checked them at the window I didn't understand that the beans came out and cooked on the outside of the tortillas. When explained to me it finally clicked that maybe the first two orders were correct and they just wanted to remake them to keep me happy. I love the little inside seating area and that makes this place just that much better. I will say though, they are not cheap! It can get very expensive! A large meal will run you close to $18-20 bucks. They also charge $1.50 for a refill on a soda you just paid $5 dollars for so that's a little disappointing. But those are small things maybe the owner can review. After paying $130 dollars for 3 of us I would hope you would consider free refill. But we love the place! Food is great! There's definitely been a revival the place was packed at 1130 with a line to order and a crowd waiting for theirs. The menu still hectic as always combining atypical drive in grub of burgers and fries to the inclusion of Chinese food! Yup you heard right!! I wanted to find a local woman-owned restaurant for lunch to celebrate International Women's Day today. I did a search on Yelp and I was really happy when this place popped up. I have been here many times, and I love this little indy hamburger joint. I had no idea it was woman-owned. Cool! Since I have been here before I knew I wanted to get here early. It gets hella busy at lunch. I rolled up at 11:15 and got a parking spot right in front. There were a few people waiting for their food, but no one in line to order. The hamburgers here are pretty good, but I wasn't in the mood for a burger. I wanted Corn Burritos. You can get Corn Burritos everywhere around Ventura. But the ones here are the best I've had. I like the sauce here, but I gets mine on the side. I'm particular about sauce application. I like to maintain total sauce control. So I ordered up my corn burritos and I also got a small order of fries. The french fries here are just about exactly perfect. Always hot and crisp, and real. Real, as in regular cut, no damn krinkle fries. Real, as in no damn sweet potato fries. Real, as in no stupid garlic fries. Just regular fries, like the Good Lord intended. I put in my order and stood around waiting for them to call my number. I felt pretty good about myself for making the effort to support International Women's Day. Then I thought some more and it occurred to me that I was celebrating International Women's Day by making a woman cook my lunch. That seemed like a weird way to honor the many important contributions Women make to our society. Oh well, my intentions were good. When they finally called my number the woman that handed me my food commented the Corn Burritos were made With Love. True that! I think that comment goes a long way in explaining why the Corn Burritos here are the best. After Super Bowl Sunday, I was craving a greasy burger so my bf & I decided to go to B&J's. I suggest calling & placing your order ahead of time because the food can take awhile. Also, I would suggest taking it to go as there is only outdoor sitting & it is very limited. We called in and I got the Big Daddy combo with onions ring & my bf got the Old Fashion combo with fries. Then we got the asada fries to split. The burgers were okay. We live about 5 mins away & when I got home to eat, the burger was already cold. The onion rings were delicious, I highly recommend & the asada fries! The Asada was very tasteful. I think next time we will get one burger to split with onion rings & asada fries. I ordered the corn burritos, and trust me, I've tried corn burritos from every joint including the the smaller places in Santa Paula that don't exist anymore. The sauce was super spicy, and even after they were brought home still hot, so I was excited to try them, but I didn't fire to be invading my mouth. I had sour cream at home, but still giant disappointment. I'll be sticking to Foster Freeze and a local place for mine, but it was worth a try. My mom said the grilled teriyaki chicken with white rice is the best she's had in Ventura so maybe I'll try that next time. Just bummed they were un-edible because of their sauce. Owner stated ask for sauce on the side, but I did and they came smothered in sauce. So not sure what can be done when you're already home on the west side, and they mess up on the east of Ventura. I went back to this location, and explained that I had spoke to the owner, and that he said I should give the place another try. They made sure to double check with me in the bag that the sauce was on the side for the corn burritos. Also tried the teriyaki bowl, and the chicken teriyaki bowl is absolutely amazing. Just like my mom said it would be. It was completely worth the money even though it seems like it might be pricey for a bowl. The only other place you can get something like this is that Jack in the Box, and it's disgusting. So I at least commend the owner for commenting, and the Corn Burritos were on the house!! read more

A delightfully, run-down hole in the wall! Complete with old faded sign. Between us we had one "Jumbo Chili Cheese Burger" a cheese burger, an order of onion rings and an order of fries and a Jamaica. First off let me say other than the cars nearby this place is solidly in 1959. So on to the food... The chili burger was spot on, perfect amount of chili, just messy enough to make it worthwhile and the cheese was not lost. Great sesame seed bun, held up to the chili just fine. The cheese burger was the same, just well put together. You could argue that the patties may, likely as not been frozen. That fact does not alter my judgement one bit. The fries were crinkle-cut and the onion rings were terrific. The ring batter was perfectly matched to hold up to the thick wide onion ring itself. None of that biting into it and the slimy onion just pulls out and you're left with a hollow shell of batter. From the first ring to the last they held up. I wasn't keen on the Jamaica, it was very sweet, but that is my taste, I find with rare exception they are mostly too sweet for me with rare exception. Health food it ain't, so it's going to take me some time to go through more of the menu. All of the other orders coming out looked really good. read more

We were staying in the Oxnard/Ventura area over President's Day weekend. We just checked in to our hotel when I had a craving for a cheeseburger. Opened up the Yelp app and B&J Drive-In caught my eye. We made our way and noticed a line of about 7-8 people. We got the last marked parking space in their lot. You order at one window, pay and pick up at another. Wait for your number to be called. We got a cheeseburger ($3.50), turkey burger combo ($6.99), ground beef taco ($1.99) and a hard shell taco ($1.99). The cheeseburger was good not great. Plain bun, chopped lettuce, slice of American cheese and small slice of tomato. It was a decent cheeseburger. The hard shell taco was good. The ground beef had a nice flavor/marinade to it. The ground beef taco was ok too. There was a good amount of meat which was nice. It comes in a flour tortilla, sort of like a soft taco. I liked the hard shell taco better. My girl liked her turkey burger. The fries were good, they traveled well back to the hotel. This place gets busy and is definitely a local favorite. Prepare to wait to order and wait some more for your food. Even call in orders have to wait in line to pick up and pay. Wish they would be a little faster but I guess that's just the way it is. People must not mind because the line was constant while we were there. Service was friendly albeit on the slow side, as mentioned above. We didn't get to try the corn burritos.
