From the south's mouth to your ears... We are from south Mississippi and have lived in California for a while with no good BBQ. After eating this food I literally cried. I haven't tasted food this good in a LONGGGG TIME! This is the best, most authentic bbq you are going to find. The service was amazing. We tried all the meats, jojo potatoes, Mac n cheese, and potatoe salad. We sat outside by the smokers on a beautiful day with our pup. If you get the chance this is a MUST!!!! read more

The food here was wonderful. Came for the afternoon to get out of the valley fog and thought we would try this new place. I had the pulled pork sandwich with corn riblets. The Smokey flavor was delicate, not overwhelming. The corn was like Mexican street corn. A great accompaniment to the pulled pork. My husband had the brisket sandwich with potato wedges cooked in tallow. It was equally as good as my dish. Service was great; people very nice and polite. Appreciated the opportunity to eat outside since we did come for the sun. But if you want to sit inside you can at the taproom next door (where you can also get a beer or some wine). read more

This place knows how to make bbq! It was awesomely delicious! When I got out of the car and could smell the oak smoke, then saw the smokers out front, I knew this was the real deal. Stopped in after hike in Yosemite so it was a bit after the lunch crowd- the super friendly staff packaged up a great to go box of fall apart tender and juicy brisket sandwiches and JoJo fries (I had never heard of these but they were crispy with flavorful creamy sauce ) and sliced off the cob spiced corn .Even had a huge slice of the most fluffy, decadent peanut butter pie!! Came here late Thursday night the guy that was working at the bar was awesome. Stopped by again Sunday after noon around 1:45 to grab a bottle of their mead to take home. But was meet with the worst attitude by the lady behind the bar no welcome in when we walked in, no acknowledgement when we sat down. She seemed bothered that we were there and answered everything with an attitude. We took a drive from the Valley to do something and got hungry. We looked up on Yelp in Mariposa and this location was rated a Five Star rating. We decided to try it. The setting is very casual, order at the counter then sit and they bring it out. The menu is varied enough we could choose what we want. We picked the three meat platter. Amazing. The meat had incredible flavor and not coated in BBQ sauce. The staff are very nice and checked in on us as we ate. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. Large portions of Brisket, Tri Tip and chicken. The cornbread reminded me of my childhood. I understand how they have received a 5 Star rating. We are extremely happy with our lunch. read more

I've had bbq in a number of places, and have lived in the south. For California this is a surprisingly great option. The brisket is some of the best I've had with a great bark as well as meat to fat ratio. It's definitely the best I've had in California. The bbq chicken is also solid. Haven't had other dishes. I do like the JoJo potato wedges as well. Tried the chocolate cake and it wasn't the best but other desserts there have been good options. But the brisket is really the thing to come here for. It's made in house every day. There isn't a ton of seating but there's a crew tables outside and a more inside. You order as you walk in the door at the counter. In Mariposa this is one of the better quality food options. read more

Surprisingly amazing! We purposely headed up to eat lunch here, and it did not disappoint at all. We (4 of us) ordered the Gold Rush which had everything. Perfect portioning, and the best surprise was the chicken, it was tender-juicy and full of flavor, could use a little more time in the smoker but it was really good. The ribs were the best! Definitely deserve the 5 stars review. I suggest you might want to add a mister and a cooling fan for the outside seatings. If it was cooler, it would have been perfect! Went in at about closing time a couple weeks ago... they had ran out of ribs so my wife and I ordered the 2 meat combo , which we shared with my our son.... I was brisket and tri tip ... and we are so glad we did!!! It was on point... the older gentleman was kind enough to bring us what I'm assuming were burn ends in a bbq sauce... delicious he was so welcoming by his kind gesture... I also mentioned to him that the Watermelon salad was delightfully tasty... we will definitely be back while we go to Posa to visit my aunt and will definitely order more food to go next time. read more

Food was excellent! We got the platter with chicken, Tri tip, brisket, ranch beans, and Mac n cheese. The chicken was good; it's hard to smoke chicken without drying it out, but they did it just right. Tri tip was juicy and had just the right amount of pepper. The brisket was phenomenal! Hubs doesn't usually like brisket, with the exception of some we found at a smoke shack in Oklahoma. But this was every bit as good, if not better! It was the perfect amount of juicy and salty, and not as fatty as brisket usually is. The meats were so good I didn't even use the sauces, because I didn't want to miss out on the flavor of the PERFECT meat! Mac and cheese was nice and creamy, not oily or gritty like homemade can sometimes be. We will definitely be back! read more

I brought my kids up for dinner Friday night. Great family atmosphere. More of a take-out setting with patio seating and indoor seating. Locally made mead, beer and cider on tap. Very friendly staff. The pulled Pork sandwich is DELICIOUS and huge! I judge all BBQ places by their pulled pork and this is the best I've had in California. I also tried the tri tip sandwich, which did not impress me. The meat in the tri tip was very tender, the most tender tri tip I've ever tasted but the yeasty tasting bread roll overpowered the meat taste. This sandwich could be improved with a different bun. They have 4 or 5 different BBQ sauces, including one I had never heard of...Alabama white BBQ sauce. I asked my co worker from Alabama if she had ever heard of this sauce and she said "Of course I have! I'm from Alabama". I did like the Alabama sauce and look forward to trying it on their BBQ chicken. read more

Ordered the Rib Basket with JoJo's. One order was sufficient to share with my son. The JoJo's were cooked to perfection and flavorful. The ribs were excellent. Very tender and flavorful. Extra sauce is available-the House BBQ was perfect-not spicy, but bold. They also offer a Vinaigrette and a White BBQ sauce with an extraordinary taste. The service was quick and efficient. They had great recommendations and were super friendly. Seating inside and outside. Convenient, just off 140 near a gas station so we weren't lost driving around town. Plenty of parking. Coming from the Bay Area this is the kind of place that makes me want to ditch everything here to move to a small town for the hospitality. The food is on point, and when we walked in, they were debuting their new smoked cheddar, which is one of the best cheeses I've ever had. 10 Stars if I could. We usually stay in either Oakhurst or Mariposa when we go out to Yosemite and are used to smokehouse 41 in Oakhurst which is a long drive, so it's great to know there's an excellent barbecue option in Mariposa now. Smokin Oak has a much friendlier vibe though. The one thing I would recommend is a spicy barbecue sauce, but other than that you guys are doing a great job. read more

Came here a couple of days ago. Got the 3 meat plate with Cole slaw and potato salad. Everything was amazing! Brisket had a nice bark and pulled apart beautifully. Tri-tip was cooked perfect as was the pulled pork. Staff was very friendly. Highly recommend! read more
