Pit stop on the way to Jax - called in order 45 minutes out and sooo worth the wait. We ordered carry out so no comment on ambiance but dining room is definitely clean but no frills at all. Food - brisket is one of my favorite things to eat so I was anxious to verify the rave reviews. It was definitely tender , juicy and flavorful but just a tad bit salty ... and I like to say that salt is my friend lol. We don't eat pork so not a lot of luck with the sides as most veggies have pork or ham base (as one should expect from a restaurant named after a pig ). They were very generous with the sides we could eat and the service was beyond great - very friendly and attentive staff. Brisket Sandwich - 4.5/5 (yummy) Loaded Brisket Baked Potato- 3.5/5 (needed a bit sprucing up with just brisket and cheese) Banana Pudding - 3.5/5 (kinda basic but not bad) COC - 4/5 Definitely worth a stop and will go again. read more

Located right off 95, the Smokin pig was a welcome break from the fast food chains we had been stopping at. While still being a quick stop (you order and pick up at a counter), the food was excellent. High quality barbecue - we tried the pulled pork and the chicken which we both excellent. The sauce was also top notch, in particular the spicy vinegar - yum, I can still taste it. We split a banana pudding for dessert. Big mistake - should have gotten my own!! One of the best versions I've had. My wife and I went for a long drive yesterday and found ourselves in Midway, so we dropped in for lunch at Smokin Pig. We drove down from Savannah by way of U.S. 17 & Route 84 and didn't even realize that it was right next to an I-95 exit. Normally, restaurants right at Interstate highway exit ramps are not normally very good as they can always just rely on weary and hungry drivers pulling into their parking lots without knowing whether the food is any good or not. Such unaware drivers will get a very pleasant surprise when they step into Smoking Pig as the food is some of the best BBQ one could find anywhere. (At least according to my wife as I just ate veggie side dishes.) She ordered the Pork Plate which came with two side dishes for a very reasonable price of $9.83. She chose Brunswick Stew and Turnip Greens. (As a side note, we found it unusual and a pleasant surprise that diners could choose the Brunswick Stew as a side dish without an upcharge.) I chose the 4 vegetable Veggie Plate for $10.35. My four selections were a sweet potato, green beans, baked beans, and corn on the cob. All were very good. We stumbled upon this place on a return drive recently. Ordinarily we make sandwiches and try to avoid stopping save for BB breaks and gas, but as we decided to shift driving duties a U-turn put us here and it seemed like karma, especially since a quick search suggested it was good. So in we went. Very nice inside, front desk person was friendly and we saw people eating BBQ sandwiches on toast that looked really good. We both ordered pulled pork and a side and the cost was very reasonable. While we waited, another table of 6 were chatting and their food came out, again a variety of sandwiches all on Texas Toast. A few minutes later (very quick service) ours came out, but on a cold hamburger bun. Oh well, not sure why but we sampled the 4 kinds of BBQ sauce and dug in. Well the pulled pork lacked any flavor at all. It was very dry so we had to slather on more sauce than I usually enjoy, but I wasn't in the mood to complain. Looking at my phone, I got reports about more accidents and our drive home time had added 1 hr. That happens unfortunately a lot, but now I just wanted to eat and go. The sides (cole slaw and green beans) were just so so. Actually the cole slaw thrown on the sandwich helped a lot, so maybe not the worst thing. We were on our way to North Carolina when we had to stop for gas and a bite to eat. Fortunately, the Smokin' Pig saved us from having to go near fast food, offering us some delicious BBQ that hit the spot. Literally located off of I-95 amongst three gas stations and two fast food joints, the Smokin' Pig was... (wait for it)... smokin'. Having ordered the pulled pork plate and making it a combo by adding brisket, I was in heaven. Both the pork and the brisket melted in your mouth. The sides were pretty good, as I ordered the baked beans and mac 'n cheese. The service was expedient and hospitable, polite as they took our order and served our food in a dining room consisting of polished sets of tables, train crossing signs, BBQ knickknacks, and signs showing allegiance to Georgia-state collegiate teams -- i.e. Georgia Tech, UGA to name a couple. Overall, you can't go wrong with the Smokin' Pig, especially if you're needing to make a pit stop from your travels up and down I-95. Their BBQ is spot on. read more

One of our friend's retired from the Army this past weekend. After the Retirement Ceremony, they invited us all to Smokin' Pig (SP) in Midway for a catered lunch. Now, I gotta be honest. I had been to their location in Richmond Hill last year and I remembered it to be a pretty average experience, so I wasn't overly excited to check out their location in Midway. Well, either times have changed and they've changed the cooks or not all locations are created equal because I was pretty happy with this experience! - Parking - This is a stand alone building. Private lot. - Vibe - It's quite a large house. When you walk in, you'll see the order counter/cash immediately in front of you. To the left, there is a huge "party" room, which was where the catered lunch was. To the right is the seating. There are a combination of picnic tables and tables and chairs. Pretty simple, yet clean and has an outdoorsy and country vibe to it. The far wall has a railroad crossing sign with various plates from around the country. - TLC - Since it was a private, catered lunch, there was no table side service. The trays of food were placed in the hot buffet table. The staff came to check on our party often and made sure things were filled up and our large group had what we needed. I don't know if she was the owner or the chef in the back, but she came out of the kitchen and happened to ask me who the service member retiring was and thanked my friend for his years in service and shook his hand. - Eats / Refreshments - Pitchers of Sweet Tea/Unsweet - Holy, yikes! The Sweet Tea was purely Southern and even for a sweet tooth like me, I had to mix the Sweet Tea with the Unsweet Tea, which was perfect! Glad there were both options! Pulled Pork - Holy Smok-in' Pig! This was great! More impressive that it was nice and moist when produced and kept in large quantities in the hot buffet table. Smoked Chicken - I loved this one! I am normally not too big of a fan of any meats smoked, except for bacon, but this chicken was fantastic! Not too much of the smoked flavor and again moist. Not a dry piece of meat on the chicken. However, I did only have a thigh piece and those tend to be juicier anyway, but I didn't hear any complaints around me! Mac and Cheese - Since moving to the South, you would think that everyone would know how to make Mac and Cheese, but more importantly, do they know how to make it taste good?! Well, I feel like I should have said by now, The South, as a whole, knows how to make it. Well, I haven't...but I loved SP's Mac. It was great! The classic elbow noodles and super cheesy! I could have eaten thirds and fourths but I was eyeing their Banana Pudding and knew I had to save room. Butter Beans and Corn on the Cob - I am pretty much convinced that this is a Southern thing, but most places I've been around here, whether they are Buttered Beans or Green Beans, they all taste canned. The corn on the cob was cooked in butter and were definitely better than the beans IMHO. Banana Pudding - My only complaint was that our party all helped themselves to the Banana Pudding too much and too fast. Dangnabit! I knew I should have started with dessert first! The classic Banana Pudding with Nilla Wafers, fresh bananas, pudding, topped with whipped cream. Delicious! Rolls - Standard and my suggestion would be to heat these up! I just love when restaurants heat up bread! - Kiddos - I was actually sans kids on this trip, since they were in school, but my friend sent us home with some food and my kids pretty much gobbled it all up for dinner. - Heads Up - My friend (his wife) had been preparing for her husband's retirement all week and she had mentioned that SP let her come in the day before to decorate the large party room and didn't charge her for setting up in advance nor to reserve the room for the catered lunch! I will now have to go back to the RH location and test out my theory of whether all locations are created equal, because my recent experience at Midway turned me into a Smokin' Pig fan! read more

We were getting gas at the station next door when the smell of their food wafted towards us. When we both said out loud how good it smelled we got a plate for the road. I saw numerous people coming and going with Togo food, it was pretty steady. We got the pork plate, potato salad, baked beans, Brunswick stew and Texas toast. The pork is delicious. Soft and flavorful. I mixed their bbq sauce with their spicy vinegar sauce and was in heaven. BUT YALL. THE POTATO SALAD. OH GOOD LORD THE POTATO SALAD. Someone is southern in that kitchen. Get it for a side. The baked beans had a kick and fresh green peppers! I found it delicious. The Brunswick is the style my husband likes. Whole corn and peas with visible shreds of pork with a sweet bbq taste. Definitely a stop we'll make more often! read more

The rib meat was very tender and the sliced chicken was delicious. They stay true to the southern way of mustard flavored mild sauce. I really enjoyed the Mac n cheese as the side dish's and the toast with melted butter was amazingly good. Hungry.. saw the billboard on freeway and looked them up on Yelpers... Yup we pulling over 6:30 no wonder we were hungry. Hehe. It smelled so good in here as soon as u get in the door. U know... that bbq smell...mmmnnn! I ordered the pork plate , baked beans and coleslaw. Coleslaw pretty plain so we added bbq sauce from table to it.. yup! The baked beans were to die for with lots of meat in them. Could have ate more or done a double order of beans. Next time. And we can fit a few trucks n trailers in their lot ( gravel part). Although I've driven past this exit on I-95 hundreds of times I never knew this restaurant was there, nor how great it was! We stopped on a Tuesday for dinner on our way back home. We were the only diners there at the time and were greeted by very friendly staff. The menu board is pretty extensive and everything is cooked fresh that day. And no fried food!! We're so glad we found this wonderful little BBQ place to stop for dinner on the future travels up and down I-95. I really liked this place off of the highway. They have a very good pork that I had on a sandwich. The excellent coleslaw is traditional and tasty. No chutney, pesto, sriracha in it. Finally, you cannot have a bbq restaurant (no matter how good the meat is) without excellent ice tea. The tea here was clear, delicious, and sweet. We came by with all the great reviews. We saw the bill on the interstate. We were a bit worried when no cars in the parking lot at 12:30 on Saturday. We went in to find menu on chalk board as you enter then place order at register. The have no fried food. I thought was great. We ordered pulled pork sandwich and baked beans, rib plate with coleslaw and turnip greens, side salad, and sweet potato with chicken. We loved the smoke flavor coming through with out all the saltiness. The portions are also very nice. I really like the spicy vinegar sauce on my salad. Flavor explosion! While on the way to Disney, we stopped off here to get something different from the usual fast food options. Plus, why pass up a chance for bbq? After perusing the menu for a few minutes, I decided to forego the dinner plates and gave into my carnivorous side. I ordered baby back ribs and brisket from the bulk menu. The sides looked interesting, but I wanted to save space for the main course. The brisket was wonderful, very tender and moist. The ribs were even better. They were truly fall off the bone soft. I could easy tell that the meats were smoked for an extended number of hours. These ribs were so flavorful that they didn't need sauce. Enroute to FL on 95S, we watched the exit signs for a non-chain, non-fast food spot. We spotted the sign for the Smokin Pig and were not disappointed. It's always great to find a local gem. And the Smokin Pig fits the bill. Nothing fancy from the outside, a comfortable dining area inside. You can smell the smoker from the parking lot, so your mouth starts watering by the time you get to the door. There's an extensive chalkboard menu, with pork, beef and chicken options. Plus a wide variety of sides. Amy and I both had the pulled pork. I had green beans and baked beans. Amy had potato salad. Each table contains the sauce choices - sweet, vinegar, spicy and mild. We tried them all, my favorite is the sweet. The pulled pork is perfect. Moist but not soggy. Smoked just right so it shreds without being flaky with a nice smoky taste. The sides were all excellent as well. Green beans slow cooked with bacon fat, pure southern deliciousness. Baked beans in a sweet sauce, simmered with either a pepper or okra, with chunks of pork. I definitely was dunking the pork in the sauce from those baked beans! This is a great spot for lunch on the road. Easy off/on to I-95 and service is quick and friendly. I'm glad we needed gas for the car in South Carolina because we got to eat some BBQ at the Smoking Pig! This is an outpost of their main restaurant which I think had over 300 reviews. You come in and the menu is on the chalkboard on the wall and also behind the counter. Family went for two rib plates, a salad with pulled pork, and and a pulled pork sandwich. The meats were well prepared and not dry. Rib plates come with about 6 ribs and two sides. Went for mac and cheese (really good) and Brunswick stew (also very good but not enough). Kid had corn which was a too much butter half piece. Son's sandwich was meaty, wife's salad was greens, tomatoes, and cheddar cheese with a generous serving of pulled pork. The staff serves you as you wait for your order and the food came out quickly. The friendly counter girl convinced us to get some banana pudding to go, and this was a great ending for lunch! $45 for four including the pudding! If you're COVID-conscious and driving down 95 looking for a bite, be aware despite the sign to wear a mask, none of the employees and most of the guests don't. Starting with that because I'd have skipped it if I saw that. There ARE two tables to eat outdoors and you can order ahead online but you do still need to go inside. I probably wouldn't have reviewed if they were wearing masks while making and serving food because it was mostly meh. Anyway, the food was good. Wish I'd gotten the spicier mustard sauce because the mild was very bland. The chicken sandwich was sliced chicken so it was difficult to hold, all the pieces just fell out, not ideal when you're trying to eat in the car in the parking lot.
