I visited Smokey Yolk for breakfast with my husband. We were craving biscuits and gravy. This restaurant is located off of Camp Rd in James Island. It is in a plaza so plenty of parking. It closes at 3pm, so only open for breakfast and lunch. There is plenty of seating inside. There is a lovely outdoor seating area as well. There is a huge bar with plenty of seating and fully stocked with your favorites. Our waitress was outstanding and offered exceptional service. The biscuits and gravy (child's portion) had 2 biscuits with loads of gravy. The biscuits were golden brown and the gravy was seasoned perfectly with lots of sausage pieces. The coffee was hot and delicious. The price was very good. Plenty of good breakfast and lunch options. This is my new go-to place for breakfast! read more

Most places don't give you enough gravey but not this place. The biscuits were freshly baked and the gravey was substantial. Stopped by Smoky Yolk Cafe while visiting Charleston, and it was an easy favorite. I got the Prime Eggs Benedict, and it was amazing -- super flavorful and cooked just right. Hidden inside of a neighborhood on James Island, this is a great spot for lunch/brunch if you're not looking to go out downtown. They had a decent brunch menu with great options like biscuits and gravy. I went with the lunch menu and got the southern burger. Topped with pimento cheese and bacon, the burger was a little on the dry side but the onions and pepper jelly helped. The fried okra was delicious! You can pick that over french fries as your side. Our server was so nice and gave her honest recommendations as to what her and her wife like on the menu. I guess the southern burger was her wife's favorite thing and I'm really glad I ordered it! Mimosa flights for $20 but no carafes. They even offer a couple of coffee non-alcoholic options. We started off the table with a deep-fried cinnamon roll, which was so warm and sweet and had molten icing in the center. Definitely need to get a spoonful with the whipped cream it comes with. I was excited to go based on the recent reviews. It's in the Pisanos parking lot which we've been to many times and always want to try it. It's a bit pricey for a neighborhood breakfast store but I figured if it was good, it would be worth it. Unfortunately, it was a bit disappointing. Good coffee is important and they didnt disappoint there. It was the chicken and waffles that was a bit of a let down. The chicken was excellent, cooked perfect and juicy but the waffle was over cooked. A bit burnt and crunchy. I asked for an egg over easy, it too was over cooked and crispy. I hate crispy eggs. (See pic) The overall decor is that of a dive diner. Not terrible but worn. The outside eating area looks nice but we sat inside. The service was hit or miss. Our server was over to our table several times but when it came time to check out, she was busy chatting with the whole staff at the end of the counter. Overall, for the price, it wasn't worth it. This place was so good we went back TWICE in three days. This second time my boyfriend ordered the French toast with sides. The French toast was not as sweet as one would expect so it was just ok. The Cajun Benny (which I ordered) was full of yummy flavors! This is very greasy (it has so chorizo so that shouldn't be a surprise but just in case this is for you folks). I've been coming here for a long time. Food is always very good. But today for the first time I don't recognize any of the staff. Usually the same pleasant people working. However, today is the first time I've gotten here and had to wait while I watched staff members doing shots with customers at the bar at 10:30am. Fantastic!!! Great place for breakfast. My daughters and I stopped in for breakfast in a visit, and we loved it!! One ordered pancakes and was very pleased. Pancakes were light and fluffy. And delicious. Daughter 2 ordered a Traditional breakfast with eggs over medium, and had them add cheese to the grits. I'm always impressed when the eggs actually come over medium because of the small difference in time between easy, medium, and hard. These eggs were perfectly over medium, and the grits were good. I ordered the shrimp and grits and they were so good! The depth of flavor was incredible. Deep, rich brown sauce and perfectly cooked shrimp. The sauce was right on the border of spicy: enough to make me tell it was, but not enough to inhibit me from devouring this delicious meal. Service was spot on. Have to update. Went back this morning for a fantastic breakfast. I had the breakfast burger and it was delicious with perfect bacon, sausage, and runny egg. The drippings went well with the perfectly seasoned home fries. The place was busy but amazingly good service by all the high school kids. My wife loved her traditional breakfast and added gravy!!! Great local craft/draft selection! Our server was very grumpy, not sure if that is her every day approach or just a bad day. Seating options inside are variable - booths, tables, counter. Outside patio furniture was in decent shape, but very well used. We did wait about 15 minutes to be seated, but tables were quickly being made ready after customers departed. Several large groups were ahead of us, so our entrees took a bit long to arrive. Fried green tomato BLT was excellent! It definitely stole the show over the chicken and waffles & the pancakes. We just love Dills and Camp Sundries! Just about every weekend my husband and I find ourselves here. We have been missing a good breakfast spot on James Island for quite some time! This restaurant checks all of the boxes for us! And to be honest that is saying a lot! The atmosphere is always super welcoming, the staff is very friendly, and the food is outstanding! We were discussing what our favorite dishes have been and are having a hard time narrowing it down. We've tried at least six different things thus far and all have been very very good! Was glad to get a seat here since they had a busy Sunday! We sat at the bar and our food came out so fast! Delicious as excepted. I prefer the sausage to the bacon since it has a maple flavor to it. They do switch to lunch at 11 so we got in breakfast under the wire. I don't like when places make me say a silly name on the menu but overall it does add to their fun family friendly environment. Came here for breakfast. Easy parking in the lot. No wait as it was a weekday, plenty of seating yours, in and out. Had to order the fried cinnamon roll which was one of the main reasons I came here! Delicious, highly recommend. It comes with whipped cream, cream cheese icing, syrup and your choice of meat. It says the syrup is served on the side but it was on ours. Then we both ordered cheese omelettes. You had a choice of grits or home fries. No bread option which was a little surprising but fine since we had the cinnamon roll and our carb quota for the month! We wouldn't order the omelets again, didn't taste like much and it wasn't soft, like I asked for it to be. The home fries and fries were very good. Prices were fair, bathroom was clean and service was good. They also have weekday lunch specials that looked good and ingredients. Overall, I will be back to try other menu items. read more
