We came here despite the mixed reviews because the weather was nice and we were digging eating seafood with the water beside us. The parking lot is a mess. Way too small but there is plenty of street parking so that's where we ended up. They have a ton of outdoor seating with a bar that extends from indoors to out. Only the bar is first come first serve. The rest requires you be put on the waitlist or make a reservation in advance. While we were on the waitlist, a spot opened at the outside bar so we grabbed it. Our bartender/server (Teresa) was the highlight of coming here! She was quick with our drinks and friendly. The issue was the kitchen. It took over an hour for shrimp and fries to arrive, as we watched other people seated after us get their food. Luckily, Teresa didn't let this slide and kept hounding the kitchen until we finally received our food. It was hot and fresh so I'm unsure why it took over an hour to make its way out of the kitchen but at least it tasted good. It's definitely a busy place and we understand that but something is going on with the kitchen and we're not quite sure what it is. read more

Abagail and Brendan managed the party and they were so helpful and accommodating with it all. The party was a complete success ! Abagail was there and overseeing it all. Her staff are wonderful and so is Abagail, very professional and personable. They treated everyone so well, I thank all of them. I brought my decorations in the night before the party and Abagail and staff did a beautiful job decorating for us. The food from appetizers, salad, meal and dessert was simple amazing. They all just made it wonderful and put their whole heart into pleasing all the guests. There are only good things to say, AMAZING and PERFECT!! Planning the party start to finish was so easy and I knew by sitting down and talking to Abagail and Brendan their main goal was to make it PERFECT and they did. I had relatives coming in from out of state and upstate and friends and neighbors of Moms. I have been getting calls and texts telling me what a beautiful party it was. Such a cozy place and the food was so good , wanted to just get out on a super cold day . They have a cozy fireplace you can sit by . They say they are dog friendly online but found out when I got there only in the summer luckily they still let me stay with my doggy . Definitely recommend this place , friendly staff . The food was excellent. We did go at 8 pm on a Friday night so we were able to get a table right away. We went for the price fixe menu to try out this restaurant. We had the French onion soup and Calamari for the appetizers which were very good. We ordered the pork chop with apples and onions which was very tasty and the salmon, watermelon and goat cheese salad as the entrees. The apple pie (we made a la mode) and the cheesecake we had for dessert were so good!!! The calamari was ok and the clams were a little watery. For dinner I had a lobster roll, It was really good and not too much mayo. My friends and I were looking to have dinner in an igloo somewhere nearby, so we were excited when we found this spot with igloos available! It was such a cold night, but the igloo had a heater so we were able to stay warm. We went right before Christmas, so they also had fun holiday themed drinks. I don't remember the names of what we got, but I had some type of cranberry martini with pomegranates at the bottom, which was so refreshing. We ordered food off the fixed menu because it all looked so good. I obviously had to get the French onion soup because of the weather, but I also ordered the steak and then the brownie with ice cream for dessert. Everything was delicious, and the service was amazing! Our waitress and the owner kept coming in to check up on us and make sure the temperate was right. It looked a little short staffed but the service was still quite slow. The food itself was ok. I had a turkey burger which was decent, but nothing to write home about. This restaurant was wonderful from the start , I made reservations about 5 days ahead because we were a party of 8 and they were super accommodating. When we arrived they had 2 tables Available inside and out but due to the rain that would start we sat inside . We started with 2 plates of calamari and 2 plates of the wings they were amazing. And for dinner we had multiple items , steaks , fish and chips , lobster , braised brisket it was all delicious. The place was very nice , wood paneling, very water edge location, beautiful view of the water . We were very happy . We came here recently for the LI Restaurant Week. We heard of this restaurant from my aunt who had dined here once before for a previous LI Restaurant Week. We were a little worried after reading previous Yelp reviews, but overall we had a pretty decent experience. The restaurant itself is small, so on a busy night I can see there being a wait if you don't make a reservation. There is a small lot attached to the restaurant, but if there isn't any parking left, there is plenty of street parking around. It started a bit rough. We had a 7pm reservation and we got there on time. When we first walked in it was a bit surprising not to see a host there to greet us. We saw a lot of the servers in the main dining hall. It took some time before one of the busboys asked if we were waiting for a table. He got a server who told us that it will be a little wait for our table. About thirty minutes later we finally got our table. It was a Friday night, so we weren't sure if they were just short of staff for some odd reason on a busy night. All of us ordered the pre-fixe menu which had a good amount of options. My aunt recommended the seafood chowder. We got that and it didn't disappoint. It was very chunky and generous amount of clams, crab, shrimp, carrots, potatoes, celery and bacon. The bacon gave a nice salty and richness to the chowder. It's also served with a pack of oyster crackers, but it wasn't needed. For the entree I got the cold lobster roll served with a side of fries and a pickle spear. There was a good amount of lobster to bun ratio. It was served classically on a butter roll and seasoned with old bay seasoning and mayo. It was a very good lobster roll, but hard to compare to the ones in Maine that I love. The fries were crisped to a perfect crispy texture. For dessert I got the lemon sorbet which is a good palate cleanser and light note to finished the meal. Service was better once we were seated from our dinner. There were two guys that regularly checked in on us throughout the service. They were nice to apologize for the long wait and thank us for our cooperation. We would consider returning again, but hopefully the front of service will be better. One note to consider for payment. They do have a different price if you choose to pay by cash or card. Seating/reservations on a Thursday, 1pm for an outdoor igloo was easy-peasy. Understand you are paying for the ambiance as well as the delicious meal. I believe between Mon-Thurs you can choose igloo seating, and then Friday-Sun, you have to pay extra after 3pm. Please confirm that. The Lobster and Mac was very filling, and sticks to your ribs. I did not want to share my salmon. 5 family members went for Easter Dinner. Kelly was our waitress and entertainment for the occasion and she didn't disappoint. After delicious fried calamari appetizer (devoured too quickly for a photo opp) and receiving our drink order, 3 of us had the Lamb Chops and 2 had the Shrimp Scampi. Everything was perfect. After dinner and even after paying the bill, nice cash discount, we sat and chatted for a bit and never got hassled about needing to relinquish the table, although they were obviously busy for the holiday. Went there yesterday, June 4 for the first time. I will say the staff is great, the bartender makes great drinks. But, we ordered the burrata platter, it looked delish, but when I was about to eat it, there was hair in the cheese. The waitress was so accommodating, she brought us another one and again we cut into the cheese and there were more hair strands. That just turned my entire stomach. Went Saturday for an early dinner around 4:30 and had a fantastic meal. Place was empty except the locals at the bar. We all did the pre fixed dinners and everything was great. Wife had the Caesar salad, son had the popcorn shrimp, Erin had the caprese salad and I got the calamari - everything was a nice portion and very tasty. Wife and son got the lobster roll, Erin got the steak and I got the catch of the day (cod stuffed with crab meat). Huge portions again and we all had leftovers. Only thing that was a little disappointing were the side of truffle fries. Could have gone without them. By the time we left the restaurant started filling up. If at this very moment I could give less than one star I would. I was just accosted by the manager whilst leaving the restaurant. He was most rude to me and demanded I pay my bill. This occurred because I was served one dozen dirty oysters (see photos) and refused to eat them and therefore asked to see the manager. I waited over 20 minutes and he never showed up at my table. I left a $10 tip for the waitress and decided to walk out as I was not going to have the oysters nor was I going to wait any longer for the manager. He verbally embarrassed me and I'm quite aware that he behaved in this manner because I'm a BLACK woman and as such decides to assert himself. While visiting family on a recent visit to NY, we ordered lobster rolls from Smuggler Jack's. While it tasted just fine, I felt the lobster-to-roll ratio was way off..... as in, the roll needed a lot more lobster meat for me to feel like I was getting my money's worth... when I so clearly wasn't... and especially for the price of $34. At the Seafood Shop in Wainscott where they charge only $26 for a lobster roll, they OVERstuff their sandwiches with plenty of lobster meat. Here, at Smuggler Jack's, for $34, I only got like half a sandwich worth of lobster meat, and I always tasted a lot more of the bread and not much of the lobster. If you look at my photo, you can see that the lobster meat only comes 1/2 way up the sides of the roll, if that. That's just downright disgusting. I won't come back here. read more

Smuggler Jack's has a beautiful canal-side location and a great outdoor seating area. Our server was very nice. That's really all they have going for them. The Frutti di Mare with white wine garlic sauce was extremely bland. If there hadn't been chunks of garlic mixed in, you wouldn't know it was there. It tasted more like unsalted butter than a rich wine sauce, and even that's being generous. Their menu didn't list prices for the desserts or drinks, which is a little shady in my opinion. The prices are jacked up because of the location. Also, it had the weirdest line I've ever seen on a menu: "not responsible for hair found in food during outdoor dining." I can only begin to conjecture as to what nutty reasons justified the inclusion of this gross phrase on the menu, but in the end it's unprofessional, uninviting, and supremely unappetizing to read. I feel like it's something Gordon Ramsay would meet with an enthusiastic "bloody hell!" on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. Between having to pay top dollar for bland food and the clear inability of management to take responsibility for their food hygiene issues, I would not recommend dining here. read more

I came here a few years ago with my sister, and we had a terrible experience but when she was visiting last month, she asked about maybe trying it again now that it's been a while and they've probably gotten their act together by now. Right? Wrong. The ambiance, first of all, is wonderful. It's beautiful, on the water. That is just about the only thing that this place has consistently going for it. That and our waiter was great. The rest of the experience... terrible. The food took a long time to come out (not his fault, the waiter apologized) but I felt like I was at the kind of Manhattan dive bar I used to visit when I was in my 20's. Except this was a dive bar with both terrible drinks and terrible food. The bread we got was stale, and the Lobster Mac and Cheese I got was dry and inedible. I tried this place twice now, years apart and there is zero improvement. We will not be back. read more
