I cannot say enough about the incredible experience we had with the Gatsby! We hosted our wedding there on 11/23/25, and everything was perfect! Heather was a dream to work with! The menu selections she helped us make were spot on, everyone is still raving about the food! We planned the wedding start to finish in 6 weeks and wouldn't have been able to do it without Heather! The room was set up beautifully, beyond even what I had requested or expected! The event ran perfectly smoothly. The staff was amazing from start to finish from the servers to the bartenders, the drinks were made expertly and with a smile. Looking forward to returning for other events! read more

Stopped into Gatsby at their outside summer restaurant after the amazing Air Show Memorial Day Saturday. Lovely ladies sat me. Gabrellla was charming with just the right warmth and social chat. I ordered a hamburger without Russian dressing medium which came with fries from Matt my waiter. Seems he did note this to the chef . While it looked great the first bite oozed red. Gabby took it back toot sweet. Matt, came to ask if I needed anything else. Upon becoming aware that I didn't have the food he went and brought the new one. Well cooked , it was covered in Russian Dressing.I hadn't ask for Manager Elyse director of catering, a charming lady, who came over chatted, answered my questions, noting the bar restaurant portion is named Roar bar with a roaring 20s theme set outside for the Summer months ( inside Gatsbys is for events) and spotted me for the meal and noted that Tuesday nights they have live music bands with an invite that I might stop by again. read more

Let's get the food out of the way: standard American fare, good, burger really good. What's amazing here is a) the view of the ocean, b) the aspiration of the place to be special, in a way that a state park rarely sees (crystal chandeliers! monogrammed paper towels in the restrooms!), and c) the wonderful, genuinely nice people. We were there with two small kids, the waitress and manager could not have been kinder to us; then the 4 year old spills, inevitably, and that's when the bus boys were even sweeter. Honestly if I can leave a 0 star, I would. This was far out one of the worst catering places I've been to in my life. And I've been to over 100 different events. I serve more food during my cocktail when I host 10 people in my house. Absolutely horrendous presentation. The outside tent was freezing with no heaters. We were finally let in to the hall and there was no bread, appetizers or plates for each seating. We asked for bread and they told us bread comes up with salad. When salad finally came out, it was completely wilted as it it was sitting out all day under some heat lamp. When main dish came out, it was Dry with no sauce, tasted like cardboard paper. My 6 year old can cook better. There's no presentation on anything plates. They didn't have bottled water even ipin request. When we asked for extra bread, they told us they had to get manger's approval. Stay away from this place, run the opposite direction. Everyone in our table felt the same. The photos are misleading and these so called 3 or 4 stars are all fake and made up. read more

We recently had our daughter's Sweet Sixteen at Gatsby on the Ocean and I cannot emphasize enough just how amazing the experience was - from the breathtaking room of windows with the sunset over the ocean as a backdrop, the incredible art deco decor - it was flawless and absolutely magical. Most importantly, the diligence and competence of the entire Gatsby team, especially Heather and John, made everything from the planning to the actual party so seamless and stress free it was a joy! They accommodated us at every turn, their expertise helping us with any challenge we encountered. Both of them are like family now. Every single person at Gatsby took such great, personal care of us; the party was a smash and the pictures stunning. Another plus? The event was actually affordable. So glad I was finally able to try the new spot on a sunny summer day. I couldn't have asked for a better overall experience from start to finish. Before going: know that you have to pay $25 to park but that $25 comes off of your bill at the end of your meal. Definitely consider car pooling if you don't want everyone to have to pay that. We were lucky enough to go for lunch while the restaurant is currently offering a few $9 specials in honor of the 90th anniversary of Jones Beach, it runs until mid September. The table got the chicken Caesar salad, clam special (made gluten free), Gatsby burger and side of sweet potato fries. The food came out quickly and was delicious. Everyone left thoroughly satisfied. Our server, Nicole, was attentive and checked in the perfect amount of times. She made our experience that much better. I can't wait to see some happy hour specials down the road. I came here for lunch with a friend who chose this restaurant for a birthday lunch. Now in the summer, you have to check the website and call to make sure they are actually open. Plus they won't be open if it rains. Our server was attentive and asked if we needed anything else, enjoyed our lunch , etc. Now onto the food. A great addition to Jones Beach which is severely lacking in dining options. Very nice decor, spacious environment, comfortable bar and seating outdoors. Friendly staff who let us sit without hesitation at nice, table-clothed tables next to guests who had come in dressed up for a night out, even though we were a mess in our beach clothes carrying all our gear after a day on the beach! Having snacked our way through the day, we just wanted a decent meal. My friend had the burger medium well with sweet potato fries and said it was a good burger, it was generously topped. I had a more healthful option of salmon with tarragon sauce, baby potatoes and carrots. While the salmon was a tad bit on the almost over cooked side, the sauce was delicious and I dunked everything in it and cleaned my plate. The prices could be a little less, we didn't order wine or dessert or anything so we didn't end up making it a $200 meal....having just an entree was satisfying after a beach day. Jones Beach needs more middle of the road dining for beach goers. read more

As the other reviewers have mentioned, the food could be much better here, there's lots of room for improvement. Our waitress raved about the lobster roll, however the bread seemed a bit hard or stale and the lobster lacked any flavor (no butter or mayo). The sweet potato fries were soggy and shriveled. The mussels tasted a bit fishy to me and they were rubbery. Plus it was served with two tiny pieces of crunchy bread (the kind you serve with bruschetta) - not soft bread you can dip in the broth. The grandness and decor of this place doesn't match the quality of food and prices. I like the idea of having a nicer place at the beach you can eat at, so you don't have to eat fast food, but unfortunately this wasn't much better. Our wine was ok - at least it was a generous pour. Hope management will improve the food so they can stay in business - it's a great addition to Jones Beach. read more

I was at a company summer party @ Gatsby on 8/15/24. Overall was had an amazing time until after function some of my coworkers and myself stayed back , we wanted to have a little more time chatting. Now this is why I am giving this review, there was this guy John or Jon, he was extremely rude and disrespectful to us ladies. We asked if we can purchase some beers and we gave him cash then we were standing around and he was rude telling us how we were making a mess and we were not, a coworker spilled water and he was yelling at us saying see what I mean yall are making a mess. I promise you we were not making a mess. Our company Northwell Health spent great money that day on this summer party and for us being treated like that was terrible. We went on a whim, after walking the 4mile boardwalk. We where super excited to even see the inside of the restaurant being life long jones beach goers and the Resturation being fairly new. We went for there fall menu "90th anniversary" specials. I got the Gatsby burger and my husband had shrimp stir fry on rice. Mine was fantastic, I really think this burger ruined all other burgers for me (it was that good). My husband sad his dish was very very good. Went here for dinner. Frankie our server was awesome - attentive, responsive, overall top notch. I ordered an old fashioned which came to the table with lemons and limes in it. Couldn't drink it. Ordered a Bulleit on rocks. They brought back a remade old fashioned done right AND the bouron on rocks. Bartender came to the table to personally apologize and owned up to making it wrong. Awesome. Food was good. The deep fried cauliflower was awesome - highly recommend. The Penne a la Vodka was good. But the topper was the ocean and sunset views. Took everything up a notch. My husband and I were treated as invisible here. The staffs didn't seem to be busy playing around, but they ignored my calling several times. We had to wait more than 30 minutes without any drink nor food even a cup of water. They didn't take our order. There were only 4 tables to serve in the hall and only we were Asians. I don't really "get" what the owners are trying to go for with this concept. The restaurant is decorated and priced for "fine dining," yet they claim to welcome people off the beach in their bathing suits. I went for lunch with colleagues today, and I can say without a doubt that I would have felt super awkward sitting there in a bathing suit. Speaking of awkward, the place is in need of some more decor. I dig the vintage photos on the walls, but one wall is totally blank. There are two corners furnished with leather (or leather-look) couches and chairs, but there's something lacking... like some area rugs or lamps, end tables... something else other than what is there. It's not inviting. As for the food - I can't really judge fully because I only had one dish: the Bourbon Street shrimp sandwich with fried green tomato and some kind of remoulade. I was disappointed because it was fairly bland.. that shrimp batter definitely needed quite a bit more "kick." The drink menu is fairly involved, but with only one bartender available for lunch today, it took quite a bit to get our cocktails (and mine had already started to separate with my peach purée floating on top of my Prosecco instead of being mixed well like it should have been). Further, the only music was coming through some iPod speakers at the bar. You couldn't hear it unless you were AT the bar, and better quality sounds come from my cheap laptop speakers. I hope they plan to upgrade the sound system. This place has so much potential - but again - I question what they are going for with the concept. If you want a roaring 20s theme, cool. Don't call it Gatsby. The upper echelon of east and west egg New York would not have dined in or around the riff raff at Jones Beach. I guess I have to come back at night and see what it's like after dark. During the day, the decor seems a little out of place for something so bright and airy. Also - outside dining didn't seem like an option. That was a bummer. Service was friendly but a bit slow. Food prices were expensive ($17.50 for a burger; $18 for a Cobb salad). Cocktails were small-ish and around $15 each. I get that we're on the beach and all, but for the money I would expect better-tasting and better-quality everything. I'll definitely be back in a few weeks; hopefully that will give them some time to work out the kinks. read more

I'm going to give this place 3 stars. Gatsby's has LOTS of potential and Long Island needs a place like this. Outdoor seating on the ocean in a beautiful historic building - atmosphere was awesome and love hearing live music. It's only a few weeks old so I'm hoping that the issues we experienced were growing pains. First of all, they need a website - was a bit confusing to find out details when all on the web was articles written about its opening. When we arrived at 8pm, there was a 1.5 hour wait and "longer" for outside seating. This was confusing as half of the inside restaurant had no tables and the other half was set up with larger 6 tops that they weren't seating people at. Perhaps they need to better distinguish how they set this place up for events vs when it's being used as a restaurant? We got a seat at the outdoor bar (where you can order dinner) which was great but they only had one bar tender working there. Not sure why you would have one bar tender working on a beautiful Saturday night in the summer. The guy was overwhelmed. It took 15 mins for us to get our $15 cocktails and while delicious, they were extremely small and not worth NYC prices. When we ordered beers (great choices with local beers such as Montauk and Coney Island breweries), we waited another 15 mins after ordering. My wife and I ordered the burrata, a pear and fennel salad, the chicken dish and a side of fries. As we were sharing, we told him to bring them out as they were ready. Fries came in 30 seconds and after 45 mins the chicken didn't arrive so we canceled the order. The food we got was good and other dishes looked good folks got around us. However, we overheard a few other disappointed customers as food was taking a very long time. Inside, the lights seemed super bright - suggestion would be to dim the lights a bit to change the atmosphere. The bar area is great but ceilings are so high in the dining room, strung lights or something lower would warm up the place a bit. We'll be back later this summer to give it a try when hopefully they figure out how to run a place like this when crowds are expected in summer months. read more

Booked at 3:00 reservation for Mother's Day today. We arrived 10 minutes before 3:00 and were informed that it would be a 20 minute wait because they had to set the tables up. I'm assuming the tables had to be set because it appeared as though a wedding had just ended and was taking up half of the dining room. When we booked the reservation we had an option for a 12:00 or a three o'clock seating. So for the wedding to have just conclude at 2:45 did not leave much time to reset an entire dining room. Poor planning #1 At 3:00 we asked if we could wait inside the building because we were freezing outdoors. There were two other families waiting with us as we had all arrived slightly early and been told to wait outside. At 3:15 we were told that we were on the wrong side of the dining room and needed to go to the other entrance of the building. We chose to walk through the still incomplete dining room as we had two small children with us along with the two other families waiting as well. When we arrived on the other side of the room the entrance hall was packed shoulder to shoulder with people waiting to be seated. We were asked to move into the hallway, but I refused, noting the health and fire violations in the space at the present time. Poor planning #2 At 3:35 the tables were slowly beginning to be seated. There were full water glasses at non seated tables and empty water glasses at the tables that were seated. We waited at least 20 minutes before our server addressed us and another 10 to receive water. Poor planning #3 *note had I not pre-paid for this meal I would have walked out of the restaurant at this point. It took a total of one hour for all tables to be seated. Please note that everyone present had made a 3:00 reservation. Poor planning #4 We eventually ordered from a pre fixe menu and waited 20-30 minutes for each course to arrive. Mind you, all of the food at our table was simple and most likely pre cooked as any large catering event would be able to manage such a large seating as the one today. However, the delayed service caused the salad to wilt and the fish to overcook--yuck! My children's steak was charred on the outside and cold rare on the inside. It was as if the person manning the grill had never cooked before. Poor planning #5 The timing of the courses was so horrible that they could not even serve coffee with our desserts. We first received our empty coffee cups, sugar, and milk. 10 minutes later we received our desserts with no utensils, followed by our coffee arriving after we completed our desserts with nothing to stir with. Nothing appeared to go right at this event and the staff was sure to stay far away to prevent time for complaints. We noted several tables walk out on their meals before finishing. There was so much frustration in the room from start to finish. There was clearly no planning or training involved for this event. Very poor all around. read more

Ate here for father's day and it was less then ideal. The hostess who handles the phones gave us a hard time getting a reservation. We had to change our party from three to four and this was undoable even though the tables clearly have four seats.... We arrived to find out there is a buffet instead of regular dinning which we were not told about over the phone. Not only that but the entire place was empty. The selection was not great and the food looked as if it had been sitting out for a while. When we were seated our table wasn't even clean. There was coleslaw on the floor and our table was held up by cardboard. The real shock came when the check arrived and it was 300 for three people to eat at the world's smallest saddest buffet. Not to mention the stacks of plates for us to take were dirty, just like the wine glass I ordered was filthy. It was $70 per person plus an automatic gratuity and drinks were not including. There were no signs anywhere or any mention of of the price of a buffet. $70 is very steep for the setting and type of food provided. When we spoke to management they were very nasty and instead of comping us for this surprising dirty expierence, they had the nerve to suggest we stay longer and take in the view. I came across this place while walking on Jones Beach and a friendly waiter told me that they recently opened. He said that they have great cocktails and the view from the beach was amazing, so I decided to try this place with friends for dinner. Because they recently opened, it was a little difficult to find them although there were plenty of local articles about their opening. I managed to get their phone number from the Jones Beach staff though, and the restaurant does take reservations. Seating outside is first come-first serve, but my friends and I managed to sit outside. (Note: Indoor seating area is much bigger and I think conversations would echo too much to be comfortable.) Unfortunately, our service was pretty dismal. Our main waitress seemed to forget about us outside after giving us our menus. Our drinks took a long time, and then second orders took way too long such that most people finished their dinners by the time the drinks got there. She also barely checked in on us to see if things were ok. The food was pretty standard American fare and was good. Dessert was good too, but the next day I learned that they cut my leftover cake before packing it for me (half a cake leftover turned into less than a quarter at home, which was clear because my bites were no longer visible). Overall I was pretty underwhelmed by this place, especially given the steep prices (dinner entrees were from $25-$40, drinks and unique cocktails $10-17, and dessert $9). Perhaps it was a singular experience and the waitress was upset with my table, but I still don't think I would go back for a meal. However, the place may be good for formal events or a quick drink at their outdoor bar if I was at the beach. read more
