Simply stated, they screwed up every part of our experience here. It took well over an hour to get a table even after we called ahead twice and they told us that the wait would be minimal, the conditions of the table were horrendous (don't go there on a warm night and sit on the water. I can assure you that the bug situation will ruin your night and will not be bearable). I can't comment on the food because we didn't get to try it; based on conversations with the hostess, it was unlikely we would have seen any food before 9:15pm despite having a call-ahead/reservation for 7:30pm. The best part of the night was when the hostess asked me who I was a half hour after she said she was clearing off my table. Overall, they were just in over their heads. The place was packed solid, there was no order at all and they didn't have the experience to resolve the situation. They just kept committing everyone that came to the door that they'd be seated within 30-45 minutes; the better answer would have just been to tell them if they don't have a reservation, they should leave (arguably they should told this to everyone, reservation or not, since they were so backed up and ruining a couple hours slow. Went for lunch with a friend. Lovely place at the end of a canal so you have a lovely view of the water and I'm sure during the warmer months it would be wonderful sitting out on the deck. Our waiter, Anthony was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We ordered an appetizer immediately. We had the fried calamari which was delicious and was served with both marinara and sweet chili dipping sauces. My only quibble is that there was only rings and no tentacles. They have both a lunch/brunch menu and a Prix Fixe menu. We both ordered off the Prix Fixe menu which at $18 is a great deal. You have a choice of an appetizer with several choices of salad and soup. A main course, and there is nice diverse selection including burgers, a fish & a sandwich of the day and pasta. I had the sandwich of the day which was steak tidbits on toast with melted mozzarella served with french fries. It was delicious cooked they way I ordered and the fries were hot & crispy. My friend had the short-ribs served with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Another winner. the ribs were falling apart tender and yummy! After all that you still have dessert, getting a choice of brownie, cheesecake or sorbet. There is a good sized bar where you can get a drink and eat while watching whatever sport happens to be on. So so disappointed. I have not had this bad of service in so long. The food was fine, nothing to brag about and kinda underwhelming. The menu is limited and overpriced, I guess you're paying for the water views. Our waiter Anthony S took very long for everything. We were never brought bread or water...water! Who doesn't put water on the table. We asked multiple times and finally got it with our dessert. The bus boy did more work than our waiter. Anthony asked if we wanted the buffalo sauce on our calamari we said yes! ....it comes on the side instead. I asked for extra lemon with my fish and chips, Anthony brought our meals and said let me go get the extra lemon....and didn't return for at least 35 minutes....and with no lemon! I have to leave a review after the AWFUL experience I just had here. Keep in mind my family and I love this restaurant usually and are loyal customers... but have never met the owner until tonight. He verbally attacked my mother and I while my 1 year old baby was in my arms because his waitress messed up our order. It was extreme enough that he actually brought out the food on a hot plate that was mistakingly ordered and waved it in my toddler and my face. It was disgusting. He even had the nerve after the mix up from the waitress to say to us "so you guys just come out to dinner to order a salad and coconut shrimp?" (Which is not all we ordered we also had dinner for my child and an overpriced bottle of wine) - which either way it shouldn't even matter what we ordered! He had no shame screaming and yelling and the workers even came outside to apologize as we left. Avoid this place at all costs, really sad considering we loved this very local spot we've been going to for years. He is unhinged and needs to be held responsible. We have tried to like this place and have gone a few times now, the food is not bad, it is pretty good, not outstanding though. The service is beyond slow, you can tell the waitresses try but they are either short staffed or the kitchen is too small. Buyer beware! Ignoo rip-off! My friend reserved an igloo for another friend's birthday. She was told there was a $125 deposit that was needed and was told it would go towards the first found of drinks. There were originally supposed to be 5 of us, but two friends backed out because they had sick kids at home. My friend called that day telling them that there were now only going to be 3 of us. We ended up paying $125 for one drink each and just to be able to eat inside the igloo for two hours on the coldest night of the year. What a rip off. My drink was so small that it was finished in three sips. The next drink I got, a glass of rose, was orange. Although they advertise that the first round of drinks includes premium liquor, my friend was told that her Grey Goose soda was in fact, NOT included. She and our other friend ended up getting very watered down Tito's and soda. When my steak sandwich arrived, it was a thick greasy slab of meat on a bun. It was inedible. When we questioned why we were charged $125 (at reservation), the waiter said, "It's for the igloo. I emailed you the rules," before running away from the table so fast you would have thought it caught on fire. Also, if you cancel, you aren't refunded the $125, you are given a GIFT CARD to the restaurant. Unbelievable, especially during these COVID times, when people have to cancel last minute to do the right thing. This place usually has decent food and a nice atmosphere on the water. Each time we went the food got slightly worse and the service got a lot worse. Tonight was the worst ever. They told us there was a 20 minute wait although there were several empty table. It took 15 minutes to get water. It took 20 Minutes for a waitress to come over. It took over an hour for the appetizers and another 25 minutes for the main course. The owner was there and he saw what was happening. They could not get the food out of the kitchen. The waitress did not deliver the apps, the owner did. The waitress also did not bring the food, others did. She never came back to ask if everything was ok probably because she knew it was not. Never did they apologize or offer to buy a drink, even when the owner brought over the appetizers. The waitress finally told us of the specials but not the prices. She then offered other sides rather than what came with it and never mentioned an up charge but then we got the bill and there was an extra charge. When we finally got the bill we could not find the waitress anywhere to pay. We had to give it to someone else to pay. This was an overall disaster that the owner knew about and did nothing to try to keep the customer happy. All he had to do was apologize and explain there was an issue with staff and offer a free drink. Not a smart business man. We were regular customers but will not go back. If I could give this review no stars, I would. Not only was the service absolutely terrible, but the owner Noel was also extremely unprofessional and rude. He storms around the place yelling at his staff and does not seem to help in any situations. He also used foul language, cursing at the table I was with. The food was mediocre - definitely not worth the 1.5 hour wait. My lobster roll was soggy and my fiancé's lamp chops were dry, both which were not worth the price. RECOMMENDED Smuggler Jack's occupies what historically has been one of oddest locations for a restaurant in the Massapequas since it is south of Merrick Road and right smack in the middle of a residential neighborhood.For me, it summons long buried memories of family dinners at the Forest Inn, the defunct restaurant which formerly occupied the current site of Smuggler Jack's.Some of you may recall the wonderful ruddy faced Jerry Kleinfelder, the retired PO and sublime host of the aforementioned German restaurant. Anyway.....I attended a small group dinner here on Labor Day(9/5).I disagree profoundly about how Smuggler Jack's has been characterized as a restaurant here. It is not a "high class joint".It serves accessible and typical American food and occupies the space between "dive" and "gastropub". I'm grading it as such. The restaurant has a large adjacent parking lot which was nearly full when I arrived, a good sign. I took advantage of their excellent Happy Hour specials and ordered a Vodka Martini ($5.00). Although it was not "top shelf", the drink was suitably stiff.The bartender was a little inattentive and slow, however. Our group assembled and was seated promptly.Our friendly waiter took orders promptly and efficiently. I chose the Seafood Chowder and a Bacon Cheddar Burger and Fries. The chowder was fresh, delicious and loaded with visible shellfish. My burger was very good. It was a perfectly cooked medium as I requested and an ample 8 ounces. It had a fresh, deep and rich mineral-tasting complex flavor. It was one of the better pub burgers I've had this year. The Fries were perfectly cooked.They were nice and crispy on the outside and soft and flavorful on the inside.My fellow diners commented favorably upon the Salmon and the Steak Sandwiches. Service was very good here, with appropriate "check backs" and amiable banter. Our group had a nice experience and we are returning. Was told a wait for 2 was 15-20, which surprised me considering how quiet it seemed. 30-40 minutes later I checked in to see why my buzzer (what is this? the cheesecake factory?) hadn't gone off yet. Was told there were 3 or 4 parties of 2 ahead of us. Here's a hint. Break up the tables for 4, and sit some potential paying customers! Came here yesterday after the beach with a friend. We wanted to soak up the last of "summer" and have a meal outside. We were both craving a lobster roll and despite the other mixed reviews on here I decided to try it. We ordered calamari with marinara for appetizer- it was good but a tad over done so stiff a little but not chewy. For main I asked if they could make the lobster roll plain with drawn butter instead of mayo but the salad is pre-made so that was out. My friend got it and said it was a little heavy on the Mayo but overall tasty. I opted for the crab cake wrap with truffle fries. The wrap was full but a little too heavy on the mixed greens and red peppers which caused the crab cake taste to get lost. The actual crab cake was OK it was too bread-y for my liking. I prefer petes clam bar crab cake over this any day. The fries were semi soggy and doused in Parmesan and truffle "essence" . They could have done this a lot better. Plus they charge for refills which is ridiculous to me especially when the waiter asks he should inform that it's not free. The view is mediocre you see the backs of people's houses for the most part at the end of a canal. Probably wouldn't go back nothing to brag about in my book. read more

This is a casual, fun, and delicious spot that my family & I frequent in the warmer months to celebrate birthdays and just get dinner on nights we're craving delicious waterfront seafood. We've been here many times, most recently last week for my husband's birthday, and as usual the wait staff were some of the nicest people I've ever met. Everyone is friendly, prompt, and courteous- the type of waiters & waitresses you can laugh with but also count on to be reliable & fast. I'm honestly dumbfounded by all the bad reviews- is it the same person creating fake accounts to come back over & over again?! The restaurant did a great job of accommodating us. Our servers were on point. They brought drinks out quickly and remember exactly which patrons preferred which hor d'oeuvres. It's a fairly good, though pricey, seafood restaurant. I got the fish and chips ($22 before tax). It came with three large pieces of beer battered fried cod. One piece was overly oily, but the other two were crispy and delicious. It was a good dish and I would recommend it. I also had the calamari appetizer, and I shared a dish of raw littleneck clams as an appetizer with friends. It was all very good. My friends got the surf and turf (either $50 or $55, I can't remember which, though it was a good dish), one of the steaks, and the seafood Fra Diavolo. Everyone was happy with their food. The restaurant has a view of the water, and it was very pretty. I would recommend this place, however expect to spend a good deal of money. You will not eat here cheaply. The bill for the 5 of us with appetizers and desserts came to almost $300. Earlier while waiting for a table, we had ordered some frozen drinks at the bar (not included in our $300 bill). The frozen piña colada and frozen margaritas were very good, and I recommend them (though beware of brain freeze from drinking too quickly). read more

Was a bit disappointed that a bread basket didn't immediately hit the table. Recommend the lobster nachos if served. Hamburger was on the small side and the bun was eh. Lobster roll was a bit strange. I realize that bacon is the hottest trend in food these days however there is no need to add it to a lobster roll. I liked them :) Appetizer: We got the mussels fra diavolo. They were so delicious! Possibly the best mussels ever, but it was the food item we both shared and what we think might have gotten us sick. Main Course: I got the lobster roll. I read they had one of the best on Long Island. I didn't like that there weren't more chunks of lobster, but it was seasoned well and the celery was a good edition. Plus the fries were soggy, just the way I like them. My boyfriend got the Bayou pasta. He loved the amount of black pepper. Since he doesn't like seafood (I know, weird) he asked for the shrimp on the side for me and they were accommodating. Plus, they sautéed it with the same cream sauce so they were extra delicious for me! We didn't make room for dessert. Bonus: they told us it would be a 45 minute wait and it was more like 15. After a long wait to get a table the hostess sat us and then no one returned to get our order for 20 minutes. Yay....or so we thought! The only decent thing was my daughter's burger (ironic for a seafood restaurant). My fish & chips were disgusting and my husbands fish tacos were mediocre at best! The waitress never came by one to see how everything was or fill our water glasses (we had to ask the bus boy a few times....btw....he was the only decent person working there!). I left this place starving as I could not eat the food. And here's the drum roll moment...when paying the bill we were told there is a 4% service fee for using a credit card!!!! In our case that was an additional $12.00. Imagine after an awful, awful dinner you have to pay an additional $12.00 to use your credit card!! They do have an ATM machine so you can w/d cash (for a fee of $3.00). Insult to injury! Just a word to the wise...do not go here! Keep driving. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. We decided to give this restaurant a try for dinner and drinks. It took 2 hours for our food to be served. That's fine, we were completely understanding when we were told 40 mins after our first drink that the kitchen was understaffed. Fast forward to when we actually got out food: one order was wrong three times. 3/5 of our meals were incorrect. I asked for the manager and was told by the bartender who served our drinks that she can get the owner. The "owner" was so unprofessional. He asked the person making the complaint "are you speaking for yourself or for the whole table". He continued to be combative and continually stated "enough". That is not how you run a business by any means. We spent $350 at this restaurant and what a waste. I asked said owner if there was anyone else we can speak to because he's being disrespectful and he said no. Let me be clear: we said our SERVICE was terrible. Not our SERVER (Anthony). We just wanted our food because surprise surprise we were hungry. This owner, who would not address himself, made our server come to the table, pointed at the girl in my party and said "she's the one who made the complaint about you". It wasn't until my husband stood up and said "you need to go away. We want our check so we can leave". Tell me how this owner refused to leave our table and I had to legitimately raise my voice like his mother for him to go away as he was standing there arguing with our whole table, yelling at us in front of other customers. I grew up in Massapequa, and I've never heard of this place. Now I know why. Long Island and Massapequa in particular have much nicer, friendlier restaurants in the area. Don't go here. read more

I called ahead to make sure I could bring a cake because if her severe food allergies. They told me yes....I spent over $700 cause it was my treat and the OWNER wanted to charge me $30 for brining in the cake. I told him they didn't say that over the phone. He argued with me said ok $15 then. I said all the $$ I'm spending and your worried about $15....that's terrible customer service. He did not care and walked away!!! He's an ass.
