Returned to NY to see my children and grandchildren, so no visit is complete without a return to DJ's... which we did !! This time, I got a shrimp scampi on a bun, and my husband got the calamari. We also got some of their clam chowder. It's so good that I won't share and want to eat it all myself. I made my husband get his own. :-) My mouth is drooling now just thinking about the soup. First time here. I would go to their former site in East Northport but that has since closed. Ordered a crab cake sandwich and a lobster roll to go. Even on a Sunday, finding a parking spot was difficult. I was the only customer in the place, so can't imagine what it must be like to park during the week. The two employees were friendly, but the music was loud and ghastly. I wouldn't be able to eat in with that playing in the background. When I got home, the crab cake was on a toasted hot dog bun So maybe I got half a crab cake. That came with a small half filled cup of cole slaw---miniscule and tasteless. We came here after hiking one day for some quick take out. As my son suddenly felt sick the people sitting down couldn't be bothered to move (seriously) anyway my son then got sick on the floor, the girls working there couldn't be nicer. Unlike the people sitting down :P luckily I think it was just the heat so my boy was fine after, they even gave him some nice water. Our food was out quickly and was delicious. After a few days in Montauck our ride home found us in need of nourishment. Thanks to Yelp we found DJ's. In we go and ordered food. Nice menu giving choices that even a picky eater can find something to eat. I've always found small little mom-pop stores to be a fun place to eat. I ordered the shrimp tacos and was very glad I did. The taco's was full of shrimp so each bite had a shrimp bite and was topped with a slaw that had what I believe was a mango in it. Very tasty. The tables did not have hot sauce but the taco didn't need any extra spice. Was very good. Taco's are served with a choice of french fries or cole slaw. (Previous shrimp taco's I've had come with a slaw on top, so I opted for the fries.) It is served with sufficient amount of fries that I just couldn't finish the plate. SO ordered fried calmari; tried a few and found them to be perfectly cooked (no rubber bands!). He also ordered a clam chowder; was very good. Was a good lunch/early dinner. read more

Ordered 2 hot buttered overstuffed lobster rolls with a side of fries. Opened the box which was dripping with butter to find the most disgusting soggy fries and the lobster roll. There was a nice portion of lobster but it was dried out. The bread it was on was fresh. We also tried the Ipswich fried clams, a total disappointment and a waste of $28. The covering was a corn meal dredge which we didn't mind but the whole bellied clams were nothing but a fried mess of clam poo. They were big and squishy and oozed a black gunk that was all over the whole box once you pierced them with a fork. I've been eating clams for over 50 years and never had any as bad as these. I've had clams with guts before but never clams that looked like they could produce their own oil spill on land. The French fries were nice and crispy. read more

So we stopped in after a day out. Sat in the car nearby to eat. Which means we were... 60 feet away? Not like the food had to sit around after being fried. This will matter in a minute. First, the lobster roll. Small pieces of tail. Hardly succulent. Dry. Chewy. Either overcooked or frozen. Lots of claw meat. The bread, which was totally soaked in butter, was good. Because butter. And then there was (were?) the Ipswitch clams. Remember clam strips? From Howard Johnsons? Little deep fried things? So the clams here were...rubberized strips of rubber...attached to tiny tasteless lumps of Ipswitch bellies that after being fried all formed themselves together into a sodden, soggy lump of breaded mush with some tasteless pieces of, I guess, clam. My mom decided that for Mother's Day she wanted DJs. What a good choice it was. We got the fried clams, New England clam chowder, Lobster Rolls, and baked clams. It was a feast to say the least but everything was amazing! The lobster rolls are packed to the brim. The clam chowder is so chunky and not just with like fillers quality clam meant and same goes for the baked clams. The clam strips are always just so good!! I can't say anything bad. They kindly offered helped to my car if needed and it was hot and ready when I got there to pick it up. I started with a cup of the home made clam chowder and it was chunky, piping hot and delicious. The lobster roll was on point as well. Finally made it here. Who knew it was so close to Jones Beach which we visit often throughout the summer. Casual spot with mostly indoor dining. There was one table set for 4 but a Sunday in July no way to hot. The New England style clam chowder was incredible. Sweet clams, potatoes and mushrooms in a perfectly creamy rich soup base. The baked clams were the best I've ever had. Stuffed to the top with a delicious garlicky kick. I went for the lobster roll but got to say all 3 had star power‼ They offer both hot and cold lobster rolls. I opted for Connecticut style which is served warm in a toasted bun. The lobster roll was OUTSTANDING. The bun was toasted on both sides to perfection. Good size, held up with each bite. So many times the bun goes limp or disintegrates with each bite of a CT lobster roll. Not this one. The market price was only $26. For such a great roll it was a good price. Been wanting to try this place out since I missed going to the one in Key West. Since it's Father's Day weekend I requested this place. A little disappointed. Food was good, a little salty. Place is small (maybe 6-7 tables for about 20ish people), service is kind of weird. Cashier was friendly and gave us details of everything, which helped. The guy who I would guess is the manager was not friendly at all. Seemed to have a scowl on his face which was off putting. Portions were okay. I always want more lol two orders of conch fritters (6 per order), Ipswich clams, blackened mahi mahi tacos (you get 2 - see pic), a warm lobster roll and three beers for the three of us - some might consider that $110 for lunch is pricey but I think it was an okay deal. Sadly it's not what it once was. I've been to the DJs in Key West a number of times and loved when they came to Wantagh. It became a frequent stop of ours. We went last week and got cold lobster rolls. They added A LOT more filler than just celery (had cabbage now) and the lobster pieces were much smaller and chopped. I know prices for supplies have gone up but so have the prices for their lobster rolls. I'm happy to pay more for the food as long as it's the same old quality you could expect. Unfortunately right now it seems like the prices went up and the quality went down. Hopefully things can take a turn for the better. read more

So Far DJ's Clam Shack is the best spot on Long Island for an amazing Lobster Roll. I came in with high expectations since they were featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives & they did not disappoint. Me & my friends ordered the Hot & Cold Lobster Rolls, the Shrimp Roll, Kung Pao Calamari, & the Crabs. What stood out the most was the lobster & shrimp roll. You could see the steam coming off of the rolls. The lobster & shrimp was as fresh as they come. I've had some amazing Lobster Rolls in Boston & DJs Lobster Rolls are in the same league. You get 2 crab cakes but they are pretty small, well compared to Maryland Crab Cakes which is where I'm from. The taste is what matters and they were delicious. The last thing was the Kung Pao Calamari. Very good but the sauce is a little heavy even though it's delicious. Might go for the regular Calamari next time. Small little place that you just might miss if you weren't looking for it. But you'd hate to pass up a place like this. On top of incredibly fast and friendly service when I came for lunch, the food was fresh and delicious. I got the grilled shrimp scampi roll which comes with a small side of Cole slaw. Like I said, food was prepared hot and fresh and was a perfect portion size for lunch. The menu can be a little pricey (as especially the lobster items run on market pricing, as any good seafood restaurant would), but you certainly get the quality for it. Would gladly comeback soon to try any of their other offerings! I also love the aesthetic of this place, it's small but packs a lot of that seaside shack kind of charm into it, which I find very endearing. Parking can be a little tight in the small lot attached to the side, so I might recommend parking on the side streets nearby, or the train station parking lot down the block. read more

I used to love this place. Had the absolute worst experience. This has turned into a chain when it used to be an amazing family owned business. We asked for raw clams - little necks - and were handed RAW UNBAKED CLAMS (should have been the baked clams with the breading). The little boy at the counter proceeded to argue with us that we ordered raw clams and he was correct. Truly insane. Also to note he was baking the clams in a NINJA AIR FRYER. and the clams came from a frozen freezer sheet. I'm truly appalled at this expense and wish I never payed. read more
