We went here on a Saturday or Sunday around 12. I thought it would be busy, there were only two other tables full. The server was running around like crazy and was asking for our drink order from across the room. I also heard the server and owner(I believe) arguing in the back at some point. Today was our first visit to Smyrna Cafe and it was delicious. We went for breakfast and my son had the pancakes (which he rudely said were better than mine ), I had the chicken and waffles and my husband had the build your own breakfast (scrambled eggs, sausage and potatoes). The breakfast at Smyrna Cafe was just what we were looking for while on our way out of Nashville. The homemade corn beef hash was amazing and the biscuits with gravy were delish! Building needs exhaust, walked in and was hit with overwhelming fried grease smell. It was 7pm, only two other patrons in the building, waited 10 minutes to be seated. Server provided verbal list of only 5 ordering options after being given a full menu, they were still supposed to be open another 2 hours. Ordered "grill chicken" tenders and French dip sandwich. Chicken was not "grilled" but overly seasoned and skillet seared. Not good flavors. French dip was 2 pieces of deli meat with cold cheese. My stomach hurt by the time we left and $30 later. I could have made a better meal at home. Save your money. read more

We live right down the street from this little gem and have wanted to try it for a while. We stopped by on a Sunday, but turns out they are closed on the first Sunday of every month. We were disappointed, but came back on a Friday for lunch and were extremely pleased. I am shocked that this place does not have more customers, and really hope that the people of Smyrna start to come here more often, because the food is absolutely homemade and you can tell it is a family run business. They are doing their best to provide a homemade selection in a city full of chain restaurants. For those saying that certain things are not available, that is true. It is also very understandable considering that everything is homemade. The owner, who cooks the food himself, does not want to waste product if people aren't coming in and ordering it. My husband had the club sandwich, which was delicious. We ordered an appetizer of cheese sticks, and as an expert in the cheese stick department, I found them to be crispy and amazing! I ordered the meatloaf sandwich, and it was amazing. For one, it's homemade-owner came out and told us all the yummy ingredients he puts in it! It also was so huge that I was able to feed it to my son for dinner AND eat the leftovers myself for dinner. The fries were crispy and yummy, and they even brought my son a to go box of fries because we talked about how much he loved them. We ordered him the kids Mac and cheese, which is also homemade and baked-not just a bowl of microwave Mac and cheese. He loved it, and I ate what he didn't. We will absolutely go back, and I urge my fellow Smyrna citizens to help this sweet family out! Gravy was good...especially if you like pepper in your sausage gravy. The waffle was not cooked with gooey batter running out the side. I sent the waffle back and the second waffle wasn't much better. Owner came & said the waffle iron wasn't hot yet and they were having trouble. It was after 10a on a Sunday. I went to try this place a few days ago because all of the hype. Three of us walked in on a Sunday and it wasn't very busy at all. We stood there for about two minutes before we were told to seat ourselves. After waiting for over 15 minutes to never have a staff member come to our table, we left. Their breakfast menu looks great and their dinner menu too.Their lunch menu is limited so naturally we go for lunch. First thing I noticed was the friendliness of the owners. Joking and friendly and caring of the guests. Closely followed by the cleanliness of the place. I ordered a Reuben with bacon cheese fries and the wife did too and we also tried to order soup but they had run out. Service was a little slow but it was a rainy Saturday so we weren't in a rush and it was worth the wait. Reuben was fantastic.
