Walked, driven, ran by for years. Finally, finally could no longer resist. Sure, I was a little hesitant because of the 'greasy spoon' and similar comments. Well, for one thing, greasy spoon doesn't bother me -- but when used in a negative way I pause. I submit to you that Snug Harbor has so much more than 'greasy spoon' going for it. The menu itself shows how they've got a tasty, creative and wide-ranging palate here. The place is also huge. The main room, off Wilshire, seems like a quaint little place. But there's an outside and a outside next floor, too. Clearly, Snug Harbor can handle some traffic. A place can't last 80+ years without some good planning and staff. Now the food: Happily, I was hoon-gry. Under 'Mixin it Up', you may choose any of the offerings as a burrito, scramble or omelette. I tried the Artichoke omelette. Italian sausage, artichoke hearts, garlic, mushroom, spinach and mozzarella cheese. (And the kitchen honored my request to go light on the cheese). I loved this. I wasn't sure what to expect with artichoke hearts thrown in, but it's an inspired ingredient. A large, filling Italian-inspired omelette. Yum. The accompanying potatoes were nicely cooked, deeply browned and crunchy. Thankfully not just a wet greasebomb. These were hearty and hit the spot. At the time of ordering, I asked about if they had salsa or hot sauce. Though bottled sauce along with ketchup is on each table, the server mentioned they do have something - with any extra charge. I would recommend that, if you're so inclined. A pureed pepper and seasoning for $1.75 is worth it. And, it goes great on the potatoes as well as the omelette. I chose Rye toast, and it was definitely better than the standard diner variety. If you take jam, there are a few to choose from. They're made on premise, from what I can gather. Pick one. I liked the marmalade. Coffee was just fine. Service helpful and on-top of things, without being on top of me. Refills were offered without even asking. So glad I visited Snug Harbor, and I look forward to digging in more deeply to their breakfast or their lunch menu. read more

Wow. Definition of a hidden gem right here. It looks inconspicuous on the outside, just like a regular diner, but it's pure magic. My country fried steak was delicious topped with gravy (and my addition of hot sauce) and my gf's pancakes were supa supa fluffy!! One of the best diner experiences for sure. First started coming to Snug Harbor back in 2004 when I was dating a girl who lived in the neighborhood. Food was always delicious and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing and the service was always friendly. 20 years later we are married and no longer live in the area, but occasionally we trek back and have breakfast and the food is still good and the atmosphere is still relaxing and the staff is still very friendly and welcoming. read more

This is a small quaint old-school kinda restaurant. They serve the water & fresh squeezed oj in the old cafeteria style plastic glasses. The server had spunky attitude, which people used to call character before we all became princesses. We split an Italian omelette that had a lot of filling and tasty sausage, which came with a side of buttered sourdough toast. Also the country fried steak and sunny side up eggs was delicious. Nice place for breakfast/brunch. We went on a Sunday morning. It's an old style diner in Santa Monica. Great for breakfast- lunch and brunch. All American plates, eggs, and burgers. Coffee was good. We got Mixin' It Up with scramble eggy, mushrooms, cheddar and bacon..the plate was served with toasted bread (you have different bread options) butter and jam and home fries.basic but good. What a find!! This adorable place has been around for many years & it's family owned & operated. Delicious food! Excellent service! I had the cosmic chicken sandwich that had this spicy jalapeño cilantro sauce and a garlic mayo that just made it irresistible tasting. Not too spicy just so flavorful! Home fries were spot on with a nice crispy outside & fluffy insides and the that little bit of onion. Also had Suzy Q fries (seasoned curly) and homemade ranch that just enhanced the potatoes in both forms. Also had fresh squeezed orange juice that you just can't find at any chain restaurant. Had some time to kill before a doctor appointment so we stopped here for breakfast. Major Old School Diner. Even has the original booths and stools at the counter. The TV is also from the 1980's, but the rest of the place is right out of 1950/60's. Super sweet waitress . Her name is Solitare.. just like Jane Seymour's charachter in 007 Live & Let Die.. How cool is that? Anyhow, Solitare offers us fresh squeezed juice.. and told us about the menu board specials. From the menu board out front we opted for the chocolate raspberry pancakes and the boyfriend had the avocado and brie omelet. The pancakes are the size of a plate, so expect left overs. The berries were fresh, not a coulie or syrupy concotion added to the batter. The omelet was not a big fluffy omelet but it was folded expertly and the brie inside just divine. We shared a side of Bacon, which was thick and crispy and a side of Turkey Cilantro breakfast sausage patty which was the size of bread plate. I HATE cilantro, but LOVED This sausage. It was home made but brought in from another company. It was so fresh tasting you'd swear the made in the kitchen but we were told its a service product. Will return here again. My friend who lives in Santa Monica selected this place and I swear all of the portions seemed small. I ordered the eggs benedict with the house potatoes. The poached eggs were ok, the muffins seemed small and tasteless. I don't think I'm returning and for $12.50 they could have skimped on the potatoes and made the eggs benedict larger and tastier.
