The good: The food was good. Service was absolutely great. Our favorite item was the Tom Yum Soup. The wine pairings were amazing. We were pleasantly surprised to find unique, rock solid wines here in Little Rock. The bad: The pricing for the chef's tasting menu is exorbitant. We did one 5-course menu with wine pairings, for which we were charged $395, and one without wine pairings, for which we were charged $345. All of the dishes in the meal were available individually on the menu, and they added up to $167 - inflating the price by that amount for the tasting menu makes no sense. (And, I assume that ordering each item individually would have larger portions. For example, I would think that the $62 strip steak would come with more than 3 slices of meat.) After a discussion they were willing to adjust the price somewhat, so I do want to acknowledge and appreciate that, but even after that it was still too expensive. You expect to splurge on a meal like this, but this price was over the top. The food was good but it was not even close to the level I would expect of a meal of that price range. (For example, at Grey Sweater in nearby OKC you can get an amazing 7-course menu with wine pairings from a James Beard Award-winning chef for $237, or $137 without wine. At Rye in nearby Dallas their chef's tasting menu is $185.) my husband and I plus two of our friends chose to dine here on Valentine's Day. it was our first time there and we were really excited about the food. being that it was a holiday, we expected service to not be as efficient as it could be. BUT, it was the worse dining experience we ever had. so bad that I'm leaving my first yelp review reservation was for 6:30. we arrive on time and are seated. our waitress comes to our table about 10 minutes after we're seated and takes our drink order. two glasses of champagne, one glass of wine, and one old fashioned. our drinks took over 30 minutes to arrive. our waitress FORGOT what wine my husband ordered and we waited another 15 or so for that. then she disappeared for what seemed like forever before asking us if we'd like any appetizers. we ordered the bread service & the crab cake plus our entrees at the same time because the wait was already so long for service. it's 8:30 before any food arrives at our table. apps never came, I told the food runner to cancel them please. my husbands meal was cold, steak over cooked. my steak was cold and undercooked. my friends husband received a completely different meal than he had ordered. thankfully they brought out the right one within about 5 minutes. upon receiving our check, our waitress says "I hope you guys come back, but not on a holiday where we can be more attentive." we won't be going back. we didnt leave until 9:15 which spoiled our after dinner plans. almost 3 hours of crappy service & cold overcooked/undercooked food. we still tipped her well, because we're decent people & worked in the service industry for many years. another patron told us "this place is hit or miss." read more

We stumbled upon this treasure when we were in Little Rock for the Elton John concert. It was amazing. Wine was delicious. Service was great. We started out with the seafood fondue and the waitress recommended we order a second loaf of bread with it (which was perfect. Thanks, Taylor). OMG. Where to start? SO has become one of our defaults every time we come to town. It's located in Hillcrest where I grew up as one of the "Hillcrest Hooligans", right down the hill from my Dad's house in the Heights. In an unassuming storefront on Kavanaugh, it reminds me of the speakeasies in the movies- without the peephole in the door. In fact, the door is almost always open. Inside is elegant without being overwrought, as is the service. If you're feeling fancy, and you want to go somewhere where they treat you fancy while making it look easy and natural, you need to hit SO. They know the hospitality game. And working in the service industry since I was a child, I know how the game is played. My wife, who has turned into quite the wine snob for a girl from south Arkansas, ordered two different wines- which must have been good because they were out. The sommelier brought out a bottle much fancier than our usual fare and gave us a discount for the earlier two disappointments. It was so good I could almost cry. And I'm a beer snob. The chef creates amazing dishes, unlike anything in Little Rock. We have a world class chef in Joe. The wine program is excellent under the guidance of Certified Sommelier Jeff Yant. Showed up at 5, to make sure we had time to eat before a 7 p.m. show. Small order overall, four people total. One appetizer, two entrees, and two house salads. Food came out at 6:45, my wife's "Special", which was the same order as the other "Special" was half the serving size as the plate across the table. The server actually told my wife he was sorry that the portions were so out of whack, but that he was frustrated by the kitchen and just told them to plate the food. I will say the food was above average, but to wait 90 minutes for pasta and Scallops is outrageous. And to pay $42 for a kids portion of food, it was literally a kids meal as opposed to a double portion. That was frustrating. Our friends bought the crab cake and complained that it was super dense and definitely not worth $26 for a ball of crab. I usually don't focus on certain aspects of a meal, but this location is overpriced for the quality of service and food that you get. This will likely be our one and only trip. First.. my significant other (SO) went inside to make sure the reservation was okay so I wouldn't have to get out in the rain and/or wait. He was told 5-10 mins. We waited 7 mins and had to wait an additional 15 at the bar. We were seated. We waited 1 hour and 36 mins until we got our food. My food was DISGUSTING. It was cold also. It was now almost 10:00 and we were both sleepy and over it. Someone came and offered a discount but it didn't make much of a difference because ultimately we still had to pay an additional $28 (large party gratuity). When asked where the large party was because it was just us two... we were told it's because it's Valentine's Day. We paid and headed towards the door. Our coats that were taken from us at the beginning of dinner, were now on the floor. Why were our coats on the floor? My SO went to grab the vehicle and while I waited our waiter came running out asking for the check. I was confused because we paid with cash and left it at the table. She said she didn't see it. I told her ma'am we have no reason to dine and dash please go and verify. She didn't return but I asked my SO to go and double check because I don't want to paint the idea that we would be leaving without paying. SO totally inappropriate (pun intended).... did not advertise the exorbitant fixed price (told you after you were seated), cold food--even though it has potential, poorly trained waitress, 30 to 40 minutes between (each of the four) courses, and we were there at 5:30 (finally left well over 2 1/2 hours later). All for an over $600 check for two people. We've eaten at SO, SO many times.... never again. Waitress disappeared...probably from embarrassment, and NEVER apologized for the time between courses or cold food. She never "presented " the wine, she just poured it (won't even dignify the process to say she "served" it). That's just poor training.... or maybe management just doesn't care. Read all the reviews from this specific date... we're all saying the same thing. This was not just us.... this was systemic. Maybe SO can handle a small group of diners (reflecting on other positive reviews from others on different nights).... but if you're going to take reservations on a special night, be prepared and know that you can handle them...with quality and care. I ordered the lobster champagne....it's the best dish I've ever had. Forget the lobster--it so delicious it speaks for itself. The risotto was like mashed potatoes & grits had a baby in a bowl of garlic and butter sauce that was an explosion of tantalizing flavors in my mouth. . To die for! Veo was patient and kind with multiple wine recommendations and tastings like I was in a god damn vino inspired baskin Robbins. William gave us a tour of the downstairs and all of his recommendations were spot on. The calamari with plum reduction sauce was light and so savory--I highly recommend it. William was a conversational delight. This is a non-pretentious upscale welcoming dining experience. Bring your taste buds and appetite. You won't be disappointed. My baby orders the duck de violet--it comes with a sweet sauce that at first he was very skeptical about, but William said it makes the dish. I told him they make everything to taste the best it can so pour the sauce all over it!!! He did and it was fantastic!! The purple potato's, duck with the sauce were so complimentary. We've been to SO several times since it's literally right down the street from our house. The food has been great in the past, and they had/have a wonderfully curated wine list. Plus Veo mixes the most outstanding cocktails! We were intrigued to hear that they'd changed up the menu to focus on small plates and improved the already fantastic wine list. We're huge fans of the small-plate trend, which allows us to sample several items instead of forcing us to choose a single main course. We ordered a bottle of Domaine Serene Pinot Noir, which arrived fairly promptly. French onion soup (highly lauded by a local food blogger), mussels and clams, beef brochettes, and blackened seafood fondue were on the food agenda. The soup was just magnificent with a rich, beefy broth full of caramelized onions. The crouton and cheese were perfect toppers. The portion was more than enough for two people, especially for an appetizer and I could have made that my entire meal. We left at least a half-cup of soup in the bowl because we still had three other dishes on the way. SO might consider also offering a cup option. The three other plates arrived at the same time about 20 minutes later: I'll start with the beef brochettes since that's what I dug into first. They're described as "Beef Medallions * Cream Cheese * Jalapeño * Bacon * Cilantro Oil" What we received were eight chunks of beef wrapped in bacon, not a lick of cream cheese or jalapeño to be found. I didn't realize those two ingredients were missing until looking over the menu just now to ensure I got everything correct (It was my birthday AND we had lots to talk about). The brochettes were also cooked medium, which, absent the cream cheese, rendered the bites quite dry. The mussels and clams were quite good, perfectly steamed and served with saffron aioli and a half-loaf of ciabatta. The blackened seafood fondue was... not what I'd envisioned at all. It's described as "Seared Shrimp * Crab * Blackened Bechamel * Monterrey Jack Cheese * Ciabatta" on the menu. I assumed the seafood would be blackened and dunked in a fondue. What we got, though, was something of a seafood dip/soup hybrid. It had a subtle blackened seasoning but was very thyme heavy. And I like thyme. Again, the portion was enormous, with another accompanying half-loaf of ciabatta. I'm sure it might sound a little ridiculous to some to hear complaints of a restaurant serving too much food, but seriously, we couldn't even finish half of what we were served. I felt very wasteful when the server collected our dishes. If we'd been a party of four instead of two, the serving sizes would have been a totally different story, but forewarned is forearmed: These are most definitely not what most folks would consider small plates. Service was efficient and unobtrusive; our wine and water glasses were never left empty. Our bill was less than $175, which I think is a pretty good deal for the amount of food we received. So date night #2 with the wife! For appetizers we ordered the surf and turf (crab cakes and skirt steak and beer steamed muscles. The surf and turf had great flavors i just wish that the crab cake had a sauce like the skirt steak. The muscles had a little grit In a few of them but over all they were tender. I also ordered the French onion soup and the wife had the wedge salad. The wife said the wedge salad was excellent. My French onion soup was good I think it could have had a touch more Worcestershire sauce in it. For the main course I chose the sea bass with creamy lemon risotto and leaks. Man I have to tell you I really liked the sea bass! It has a great crust on one side of the fish and was nice and flakey. The risotto had just enough hint of lemon to compliment the fish. The wife ordered the Duck L'orange and said the duck was cooked perfectly. She also enjoyed the farro risotto and its deep earthy flavors. Adam was our server and he did and excellent job with keeping our drinks filled and making wine suggestions. So.... took the wife on a date night for Mother's Day. We wanted to go back to a restaurant we haven't been to in a long time. Ordered the antipasto and chef choice oysters for an appetizer. Both were good the oysters were really small and made spending 20.00 on them a little steep. For dinner I ordered the cold smoked filet with bone marrow mashed potatoes. The wife ordered the salmon. This service at this shop was Horrible. The food was so-so. But our waitstaff needed to be trained in fine dining. We were told numerous times oh I forgot. We were not even asked how our steak or other items were until the check was brought to us. Empty water and drink glasses and dishes from the appetizers remained on our table for an hour or more after. They were out of several menu items on Saturday Night because no one had been there to meet the Oyster Guy. Totally not acceptable at a place that we sought high standards from. Save your money. My husband took surprised me with dinner reservations here to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary. The establishment itself was quaint and beautiful. We started out with the beef brochettes which were cooked medium rare and so delicious and tender. I ordered the 7 oz filet medium rare, it came with bone marrow mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus. Everything was delicious, the only thing that was lackluster was the bone marrow mashed potatoes. It might as well not be in there, because it's so minuscule it doesn't really provide much flavor. The restaurant is beautiful with all great views, upon arriving were greeted by the hostess and some local hanging out. However we were seated in the back and taken care of, every staff member greeted us along the journey back. Let her know I was gluten free and she accommodated completely, even when she brought our dish of Salmon soup out she said it was also gluten free if I wanted to try it. There was a minor issue with the soup but they fixed it quickly and even the manager apologized. I understand how kitchens work so it was no biggie. (awesome handling job) Ordered multiple cocktails, Winters Mule, Green Tea, Strawberry Martini all were poured perfectly and had a great ratio. Even though the green tea drink is meant to be a shooter it was still good. Winters Mule is my recommendation to try while it lasts, great balance of flavors. The filet Mignon came out perfect medium rare and the mash potatoes were bone marrow infused and cut with the filet was an amazing pairing choice. For dessert we got the Cardamon Creme Brulee, sort of small but super appetizing and had an aperitif that leaves your palet feeling like your full and you want nothing else. The Chocolate Sack we got to go and they made it gluten free with the cake/crumbles on the side. Even packed the to-go box with ice to keep it safe from melting. So, is probably Little Rocks top restaurant as far as I'm concerned. I've been to all the other top contenders so far. Waitress was dry and rude and seemed more inconvenienced that we were there even though we were the only table and had made reservations a few weeks in advance. So my son and I entered and bar was full and I stood waiting for a server or hostess and no one came so the guy came feom behind the bar and basically seated me by the window where by no other patrons. About five minutes later a guy name Brody comes pours water and walks off. THEN finally reurns to ask if I want a drink. My filet was amazing. Myself being a server for years...I hate doing this but our server obviously forgot our food. A table had ordered a ribeye and fish next to us 15 min after we ordered. They got their food first, we were told my dates ribeye was a big f****** piece of meat so it was taking longer. Dropped the food off and proceeded to tell us they had to cut the ribeye in slices. IT WAS WELL DONE. I don't wanna call him out for being drunk but he got louder and louder with the cussing. I couldn't get home to type a review fast enough. In fact, I created an entire account just so I could write this specific review. I could not LEAVE this establishment fast enough. My husband and I wanted to try something new and fancy to splurge on for our anniversary dinner, so I did some looking around (clearly not enough) and chose SO. We get there and the first red flag was lack of curb appeal. Okay, didn't think much of it but if you're wanting to attract customers, the least you could do is not have the outside looking run down. We go in and are greeted by kind staff and quickly seated. We soon noticed how quiet it was. No noise whatsoever; music or otherwise. The place was completely empty during peak dinner hours (second red flag) aside from one other couple sitting at the bar and one couple in the back of the restaurant. We order a cheese board for $19 that came out with tiny, minuscule pieces of Parmesan and Bleu cheese with 4 pieces of sliced, hard toasted bread. I still wanted to give the benefit of the doubt for the entrees so we order our main dishes. My husband got the Mahi Mahi and I got the Beef Filet with garlic mash. Both dishes came out cold. The potatoes were actually okay but as I went to cut my steak, my knife got hung up on something and wouldn't give. I realized then that the tie they keep the steak together with was still inside my steak! I was Immediately shocked and of course that was the third red flag. I took one bite of the steak and it not only smelled absolutely rancid, it tasted atrocious. When we left, I forced myself to vomit as I was scared of getting food poisoning (that's how bad the smell was) but not before my husband let me know his fish was raw. "Chef", if he even exists, needs to go back to culinary school or at the very least pay enough attention and wherewithal to take the time to cut off the tie holding the steak before serving. How could you be that scatterbrained when you have no customers? After reading the reviews, I have discovered I'm not alone and as well as the others on the site, I will never ever go here again or recommend ANYONE ever go here as it is not even edible for dogs. To top it off, the fourth and final red flag was the owner or manager or WHOEVER he was chugging 2 separate drinks and then proceeding to fall asleep sitting up at the bar. Our bill was $200 and I would have paid $200 to AVOID going here all together. It was a terrible, uncomfortable, and downright creepy experience. My sister and I had the most wonderful dinner tonight. We started with an old favorite bottle of wine: Landmark Chardonnay. Then we asked our server, Will, to surprise us with his selection of appetizer. He checked with us to make sure we liked what he suggested. He chose mussels. They were AWESOME!! What I thought was a mustard sauce was actually a French sauce w/ saffron... SO good. My sister had duck au poivre and I had the special which was black cod. I have to say the our plates were absolutely beautiful. I should have taken pictures, but I never remember to that. The duck had a mix of lightly roasted root veggies of carrot and beet. It made the plate was very colorful with the oranges and reds. My sister HATES beets but she LOVED these! The duck was perfectly cooked and so savory. My plate had a cake like a crab cake topped with the cod and what I think was dark green seaweed. All surrounded with a delicate and delectable broth. The broth was so light and really the perfect foil for the fish. Neither of us were dessert people but our server brought us a surprise after dinner drink. Over crushed ice we had a raspberry, strawberry liqueur with a chocolate and white chocolate liqueurs. It tasted like a Valentine's kiss. A very so-so experience. My husband and I were visiting from Texas and came here to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary and couldn't have been more disappointed with the overall experience. The gnocchi special was tasty and set the tone for what should have been a lovely meal. I ordered the caprese salad and instead of an heirloom tomato, I got a whole partially sliced Roma tomato that was standing on end, a dollop of mozzarella and some very wilted arugula. All this for $16!!! That's outrageous. My steak Regina was approximately the 7oz they advertised but was quite underdone. I sent it back and although they replaced the entire entree, they replaced with a much smaller filet, something on the order of 4-5 oz. This was $45. My husband ordered the 20 oz ribeye and found it to be a poor cut. The cut wasn't marbled and instead had big chunks of fat throughout. Not what you'd expect from a place that specializes in steak. That was $55. Our waiter told us he was new but displayed no desire to learn the menu and tell us about it. Apparently, he learned midway through our dinner that there were two dessert options and not just one. But as with the pot de crème, he was unable to describe the dish. I got the pot de crème and it would have been nice to know it had cardamom in it. We can only go up from here for anniversary meals. This place was a rip-off. read more

This was my first visit to this restaurant but it will not be my last. My husband and I totally enjoyed our experience. The atmosphere was upbeat and the staff was friendly and attentive. On to the food and drinks: I had lamp chops and they were good. The sauce that accompanied the chops was a good compliment. My husband ordered the Coffee Encrusted Filet and it was delicious. I will order it the next time we go. We ordered a strawberry basil mojito (decent) and an Avion Silver Margarita. The Margarita was perfect. We finished with the Tres Leches cake. The presentation was lovely, the cake itself was only decent especially compared to other three milk cakes that I've indulged in. As I said, I will attend So again. read more

The worst dining experience I've ever had. Waitress was absolutely awful. Was complaining about other customers to us in front of them! Took us 50 min to get bread, hour and 45 to get soup and salad. Salad tasted like it had been sitting out for a while--which it probably had and the waitress just never grabbed it from the kitchen. Got a steak and a pork chop. Steak was very below average and very tough. Pork chop was not only the worst pork chop I've ever tasted but might be the worst dish as well. So tough you could barely cut it with a steak knife. We were there for 2 and 1/2 hours to get very below average food that is entirely overpriced. Extremely horrific will never be back here. read more
