I've been to Soaring Dragon a couple of times before I started Yelping; when a friend suggested we go there, I saw another review in my future! We arrived at 12:15pm and were able to be seated immediately. Drinks were on the table within three minutes of ordering; a request for lime was fulfilled without delay. We ordered from the lunch special menu. My friend had the lemon grass chicken with won ton soup, crab rangoon and fried rice (included in the price); I had Singapore noodles (don't see that on most menus) with hot and sour soup and an egg roll. The soups arrive in about two minutes. My friend said her won ton was very meaty and the broth was delicate. My hot and sour soup wasn't too hot (some chili oil fixed that) but it actually was sour; many restaurants seem to just wave the vinegar bottle over the soup. The balance was excellent with tofu and "tree ears" fungi for textural contrast. The entrees were on the table a few minutes after we finished our soups. So far, so good. My friend's lemon grass chicken was beautifully plated. There was, however, an over abundance of onions in the dish which changed the flavor. My friend asked if I tasted lemon grass; sadly, I did not. Don't get me wrong, the dish wasn't shabby by any means but the lemon grass flavor was nowhere to be found. The rice was moist and had the proper "wok hee," the almost-imperceptible slightly smokey flavor a wok imparts to food, especially rice. The crab rangoon had a decent amount of filling but was a bit dry. My Singapore noodles had a decent flavor but unfortunately, it was muted. The proper vermicelli rice noodles were used and the curry flavor should have been more pronounced. In addition, the noodles were cut into about 4" lengths; fine for those who use forks, but somewhat clumsy for those of us who eat with chopsticks. There were plenty of pork and eggs in the dish with onion slices scattered throughout--all these ingredients were properly cooked and tasty. The heat of the dish was nonexistent but again, chili oil to the rescue. My egg roll was nothing to write home about but the flavor and texture was fine and there was no perceptible grease. Soaring Dragon has been named the best Chinese restaurant in Kerrville. Okay, okay--so that's not impressive in a town of less than 25,000, but I would put it up against many restaurants in San Antonio. Each dish is distinctive in flavor, something that's lacking in the lunch specials of other local restaurants. In addition, they have some not-too-frequently seen items such as the Singapore Noodles, Taiwanese Pork Rice Noodle Soup, Lettuce Wraps, and Szechuan Dumplings to name a few. Service is extremely efficient and very friendly. So if you find yourself in our little town and are craving Chinese food, give Soaring Dragon a try. Their good food and service, generous portions (even on the lunch and dinner specials) and reasonable prices make them hard to beat. read more

Been spending more time in Kerrville the last few weeks, and Yelp helped us find this gem! The reviews were top-notch and I was not disappointed! We had a fantastic lunch here! Watch out for the Sunday after church crowd. We got there about 12:30, I guess ...and we definitely beat the rush. But it was worth it! Lindsey had the Happy Family and I had General Tso's. Bottom line: this is fantastic Chinese food! Wish I could find this good a joint in San Antonio! Soup, entree, your choice of Egg Roll or Rangoon and steamed/fried rice. If I lived in Kerrville...this would be my go-to place for Chinese! I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area. Also, do yourself a favor and go to their website...read their story. Excellent Asian food! They offer a great variety of dishes from all over Asia! My favorite is the Pineapple Fried Rice!

The ONLY place to go if you want consistently great, delicious Chinese food in Kerrville. The food is always hot, fresh and tastes great. I have yet to get something here that I didn't like. My personal favorites are the Szechuan beef and the Sesame chicken. The dumplings are yummy as are the crab Rangoons. The service if always fast and friendly. read more

On a long drive back from Marfa to Houston, we were running low on gas and took an exit off of I-10. Since we were also hungry, I pulled out my trusty Yelp app and searched for well-reviewed restaurants in the area. Soaring Dragon was one of the restaurants listed so we stopped by for dinner. Located in a shopping center, parking is a breeze. The Chinese restaurant was almost full on a Thursday evening and we noticed a plaque on the wall from 2015 where Trip Advisor rated them the #1 Chinese and #1 Asian restaurant in the area. In addition to your typical Chinese dishes, Soaring Dragon also had some Vietnamese options. Before I forget, props to a pretty cool restaurant name. I prefer a name like Soaring Dragon any day of the week over one like China Cafe. I started off with a small wonton soup which I was pleased to find out came with those crispy wontons you can dip in your soup. The soup should have been a bit more warm but it was tasty nonetheless. For my main dish, I went with the sesame chicken with steamed rice. A generous portion size, I was only able to eat half of my meal. Service was effective and friendly, two thumbs up on that side. The cherry on top? Super clean bathrooms! Not always the case at casual Chinese restaurants. Soaring Dragon is a gem of a neighborhood restaurant and we were lucky to stumble upon it during a road trip. read more

Great find! After an unexpected breakdown on I-10 left me with a couple hours to spare, I asked Alonzo at Ultimate Auto where I could eat something within walking distance. He recommended several places and mentioned Soaring Dragon if I wanted good-fresh Chinese. Well since that's a novel idea these days I decided to give it a try. From the moment I walked in I was immediately impressed with the nice clean modern space, also the 80's music was at a nice level. Nice selection of your typical Chinese fare as mentioned by others. We moved to Kerrville a year ago and had not had Chinese food since we moved here so we decided to celebrate our one year anniversary with Chinese food. I've never had sweet-and-sour chicken that is as dry as the stuff was. It was almost like they reheated the chicken from yesterday. After three bites we threw it out. I'm not sure how they did it but the noodles or even dry. I mean they were moist but after putting them in your mouth and your mouth got dried out. I would not recommend this restaurant. This was the best Chinese food I've had in The Hill Country. Since there aren't many, it would old it's own outside of the region as well! At first we thought we would be alone in a Sunday lunch outting, but it filled rapidly. Always a good sign. The waitress was very busy but very good and attentive at the same time. The wonton soup was one of the best. My wife's hot and sour was good as well, but a bit hotter than her tastes. I had the Mongolian beef. It was quite savory and hit the spot. It too had some heat but I enjoyed it. Fried rice was ok. The crab Rangoon was good and creamy but had no hint of crab. My wife said her spring roll was just ok. Service has always been good but come early or late for lunch as they are usually full from 11:30-1. We used to go to Chinatown but since it was sold to another Chinese restaurant, their food went downhill. Soaring Dragon's prices are very reasonable and, while my husband occasionally finishes his meal, I often take the egg roll and 2/3s of my plate home which gives me 2 more meals and he often takes home enough for 1. Our usual is the Chicken Pad Thai but I've also tried the Soaring Dragon Shrimp and Shanghai Noodles were also good and I would order any of then again. They also have some of best Hot and Sour soup we've ever had. The manage to fit a lot of tables in this small space but their is still room to get around them and the lighting is subdued but plenty bright to read the menu. They also take reservations for large groups when they move 2 or 3 tables together. I've been there with a group of 15. read more

What a pleasant surprise for the Texas Hill Country! We decided to give this place a shot and am glad we did. From the outside it looks like any other strip center hole-in-the-wall, you leave that impression behind when you walk into a small but very pleasing Chinese restaurant complete with subtle mood lighting and fresh flowers on each table. We started with Edamame which was a refreshing option compared to other local Chinese restaurants. Szechuan pan fried dumplings were delicious but really needed more spice for our taste, the flavor though was spot on! We hadn't realized how ravenous we were so we went with the special Wanton Soup for two, great ingredients (shrimp, chicken, beef, bok choi and other assorted vegetables); however, the broth lacked depth and needed to be hotter. All in all pretty good with addition of some soy sauce. We finished with the Yu Shin Triple chicken, beef, shrimp, and vegetables stir fried in spicy garlic sauce with a pair of spring rolls. It was very tasty but not spicy as advertised at all. If there is a "Chili Pepper" next to a menu item, then surely it should arrive accordingly. Even though it was lunch time we opted to go with full menu which offers a diverse selection of entrees. In closing, a great experience we will definitely be back and not in the distant future but with regularity! read more
