Ordered Happy Family as a take out dinner and it was NOT editable (and one of the most expensive dishes on the menu) because bits of hot peppers sprinkled very heavily on the food. Wife and I had to go to Kerrville yesterday. After our meeting they suggested lunch. So, we go to this Soaring Dragon restaurant, it was just down the street and was highly recommended by an associate. I knew it was a good choice when the smell of aromatic Chinese hits me. Now if the food taste as good as it smells. We where greeted with a warm smile and given a table. It's 3:00 PM so it's not all that crowded. Our server came right over with water and got our orders. We all ordered off the happy hour menu, which I thought was great and the portions when good. My Tangerine chicken was excellent, just enough heat to let you know about it. Pleasant surprise in Kerrville! We were visiting family, and this restaurant is a block from my sister's house. Wehad been warned that the Chinese food in town wasn't very good, but Soaring Dragon definitely defies that label. First, it's not just Chinese, it's technically pan-Asian. The lunch prices are a bargain. Along side your more than generously sized entree, you also get soup and either an egg roll or wonton. The vegetables were very fresh and crisp, not soggy and mushy. Those who had meat said it was good, and the two of us vegetarians enjoyed the veggie egg rolls and tofu dishes. I had the tangerine sauce with tofu. The sauce was great, not weird gelatinous flavorless syrup like you can get some places. There were large chunks of orange peel, so be sure not to bite into them. As mentioned by others the pad Thai has a large egg omelette on top. My son, who always gets pad Thai everywhere he can, thought it was good that way even if different. The kids sweet and sour chicken was a very good value as well! Very ample portions for my kids, plus an egg roll. Our server was top notch. Attentive, nice, and thoughtful. When she learned my daughter and I were vegetarian she said she would give us two egg rolls instead of the soup because they're made with animal stock. We stopped at Kerrville on the way home to Houston and being that we got there at night we decided to drop in to this place due to it closing later than other places. The restaurant was empty when we got there so we were a bit skeptical but the service was great. Very friendly and attentive and the food was really good. Later the restaurant got a bit busier so that put us at ease. We got some steamed pork dumplings to start with which were very good. I ordered some chicken lo mien and the serving size was great. The chicken and noodles had really good flavor and was very filling. If we are ever in the area again I would definitely stop by here again. read more

My covid review: We were not eating in so I can't speak about table service. I got the kung pao triple as did my wife and my mom got I believe cashew chicken. We all got fried rice over white rice and had egg drop soup. The main dishes were delicious! Quality and not skimpy. I was stuffed for under 10 bucks. Some other reviews said it's oily and it wasn't the case at all with us on anything, even the eggrolls. The eggrolls are the thin crispy type but tasted homemade and I don't doubt they are. They were good to. The soup was mediocre. Maybe it's just me and my wife but we don't expect amazing soup when we're going to a less than 10 dollar combo meal place (which is every Chinese restaurant in Kerrville AFAIK) and most Chinese restaurants don't seem to emphasize on it so no points on that. I love egg drop and I make it at home. If you are expecting that I don't have a place to recommend. Most of the Americanized Chinese restaurants don't deliver on that aspect but it wets your whistle. Maybe next time I'll try hot and sour. Now on to the Covid. You are in Kerrville. It's astounding how bad the general public is in masking up. It's like that in Fredericksburg more so. The staff all were wearing masks, and professional. Customers everywhere are hit and miss and it's pointless to call it out. Went in two places non food and not a mask onsite on employees. What's up Kerrville? They knew this in 1919, catch up a little bit. Main thing on Covid is the packaging if you are not eating in places. They use great to go containers that hold your rice and entrée in separate compartments and use good sealed soup containers. Quality stuff. It's the level of what you would get in a bigger city. Went to an unnamed Mexican restaurant also where it was one bump from eating out of a bag. I've got family and lived in the area so I'm not going to rag on them. I feel suckered every time but it's right down the street and the fam likes it. We collectively agreed never again this time when I'm in town. We ordered over the phone, picked it up 15 minutes later and was out in a minute. Great staff. Every time I'm in Kerrville it's going to be a go to. I haven't had bad Chinese in Kerrville yet but this tops on to go by far. I wish we had more mom and pop type places in Austin, they just can't afford to make money here. Big props. read more

My husband and I eat Asian food everywhere we go. We have been all over the United States and half of Canada. This is without a doubt the best Asian food we've ever eaten. Soaring Dragon has delicious food. There are not too many places to choose from there in Kerrville so this place is a must to add to your list. Plus it stays open later than most places do in Kerrville..another plus. The place isn't very big, but is set up well and the decor is very nice and bright and welcoming. They have a great special from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. that includes your entrée, egg roll, soup and steamed or fried rice. That day I tried the Kung Pao Triple let me tell you it was very good and a great value for the price. I have had Kung Pao at other places and this was fresh tasting and had just the right amount of spicy kick to it. I tried the egg drop soup at the recommendation of my companion. He was right it was delish! The soup was fresh and flavorful. Not like most places when you order egg drop soup it tastes like It has been water downed all day long to make it last. Oh and the egg roll was oh so yummy!! Light and crispy ..none of those soggy thick breaded egg rolls here. My companion that day ordered the Soaring Dragon Shrimp. There were several items that caught his eye that day but he decided on this one. The description sounded really good "lightly breaded and fried shrimp tossed in a honey sauce topped with walnuts". The presentation was excellent. It looked great on the plate it was served. But, the dish was way too sweet for my liking as well as my companion.. he said it was an overload of sweetness. He had to eat some of my Kung Pao to get the sweetness overload out of his mouth. We also had some sort of yummy appetizer that he ordered but for the life of me I can not remember what it was called. What saddens me is that I don't know when I will be back to Kerrville to eat here again. Located in a busy small strip mall on Sidney Baker Blvd in Kerrville, TX. We went at lunch time and every table was full. Service was fast and we had a booth within 10 minutes. A lot of happy locals who frequented the restaurant and people like us from the nieighboring towns. They specialize in Asian poke bowls which Mary order with pork, her favorite. We ate lunch here today. I have the jalapeño chicken and shrimp with wonton soup, fried rice and crab Rangoon. Jalapeño chicken and shrimp was great. Great flavor, great amount of shrimp and perfect amount of spice. Wonton soup was was too good to be natural.. Lol I would have made a full meal just out of this! My family and I were in town in Kerrville on our way home to Houston from a road trip and were looking for a good spot to eat dinner. We decided on this place due to it closing a bit later than other restaurants. I have to say it was very good! We ordered fried dumplings for appetizers and they were nice, full and cooked well. I ordered what is known as a Vermicelli bowl although it was described a bit differently on the menu. BTW even though this is a Chinese restaurant it does also serve Thai and Vietnamese food. The vermicelli bowl was very good and a bit different from how I've traditionally seen. The rice noodles were a bit thinner, no carrots, and no bean sprouts. However these differences didn't make it any less delicious! I also tried some of my families' food. The sweet and sour chicken was great, you could really see the white meat. I had the sesame chicken dinner with a bowl of egg drop soup. The dining room decor is nicely sophisticated but still casual enough to wear jeans or shorts. The sesame chicken was cooked fresh and very tasty. I also had a cup of egg drop soup which was very good but a slight to salty for me. My wife and I went to the Soaring Dragon on July 12th, with our granddaughter. We thoroughly enjoyed our Early Bird dinners. Not having had any acceptable Chinese food for quite a while this place was a delight. I don't think you could go wrong with any of their dishes. We had Kung Pao Shrimp* with hot and sour soup, egg roll and fried rice, Kung Pao Chicken* with egg drop soup, egg roll and fried rice, and General Tso's Chicken* with egg drop soup, egg roll and fried rice. *hot and spicy (but not too much) along with hot Jasmine tea. Had a bad experience on my last visit. Previously I had enjoyed this Resteraunt however that has changed. I am a diabetic and I am attempting to limit my carbs. I asked to substitute steamed veggies in place of rice or noodles, as I had done on previous visits. They acted like I had requested the lobster as a substitute. I was finally told I could have some broccoli as a side and there would be a $3 up charge. Service was awful and when they finally brought out my food, they neglected to bring the aforementioned broccoli. I was not even going to worry about it but my wife brought it up to our waiter. Once I had pretty much completed the meal they brought out a small plate of like 5 small pieces of broccoli. These were almost raw so I am guessing they must have forgot to bring them. This was not the service I had received on my previous visits but I don't plan on going back. I did subtract the $3 from the waiters tip, so essentially he paid for my small side of broccoli. read more
