We had an exceptional experience dining at Sobie's a few weeks ago. The entire staff was wonderful and the food was fantastic. The bartenders make a mean whisky old fashion and the steak ranks in the top 5 I've ever had. I thought my wife's shrimp was tasty, but the catfish appetizer was amazing. Love Sobie's. The quack quack quack is always delicious and love the Jamaican jerk dry rub broasted chicken wings (although too much salty seasoning some times). Great for brunch, lunch and dinner, but can be a bit loud at night given the older hard wood floors and brick walls, great aesthetic just keep in mind if you want to talk over dinner with a large group. They had an amazing flank steak with a shallot cream sauce special once that we suggested making a main menu item, not sure they ever did but it would definitely sell, delicious! My wife and I live in Portland, Oregon...a foodie town. We spend our holidays in Oconomowoc, and this year found our way to Sobie's. the food was phenomenal. The scallop small plate was excellent, and it's been a long time since I had a beef tenderloin prepared so perfectly. The mushroom demi glas was delicious, as were the vegetables and scalloped potatoes. Top it off with a wonderful creme brule and you have a trifecta. Great service, comfortable seating as well. While more expensive than some places, you get what you pay for. A great place for a special dinner!! read more

My experience started with a great red wine recommendation from the bartender and several tastings! Then onto a great salad with the local cherries: crisp baby spinach, red onions, carrots, sunflower seeds with the stars of the plate, the local cherries! The Tornados of Beef with roasted cauliflower florets and potatoes which were cheesy without being gooey! The filet x2 were tender and cut with a fork tender! Then came the turtle cheesecake! OMG! Homemade coated mixed nuts, chocolate syrup and cheesecake. It was a wonderfully fun evening sitting at the bar with locals who quickly became friends! We had eaten here a few times before, today we tried to keep it simple. My wife ordered a side salad and a shrimp dish with a sauce and a pastry. I had a side salad with blackened scallops. If my wife and I wanted raw we would have gone to a sushi bar. To start with the salad ingredients were fresh but my wife asked for a balsamic vinegar dressing which was more vinegar than balsamic. The pastry was ice cold and sat over the sauce with the raw shrimp around it. My salad and dressing were ok but there wasn't even a hint of gorgonzola. Then when the blackened scallops arrived the were blackened but raw. Who ever was cooking should go back to where they trained and get their money back. Our food was definitely not cooked and way over salted to boot. The cook on duty around 4:30 on Monday the 28th of October should look for different occupation. read more

We we greeted promptly, seated in a booth so we could watch the Brewers playoff game. Nice drink menu with a nice list of wine. Brew infinity beers a plus, local brewery! Ordered a day drinker and old vine Zin. We ordered salmon chowder to share for a appetizer, which we enjoyed. Warm rolls with whipped butter were also good. I got the Sobie's house salad, side salad size with Sobie's sauce wings. House salad was good but was not fond of the lettuce mix. Was arugula and spinach not baby greens like I thought. Also should have gotten it with a vinaigrette instead of creamy Gorgonzola. I didn't like wings they weren't hot and crispy. Got soggy tossed in the sauce. My husband got Chicken Duxelles, the Dijon cream sauce was left off, potatoes were cold and green beans were very crunchy. Ordered chocolate layer cake and coffee. Both were good but would have liked a second cup. One of the reasons for three star was because was charged for a 12$ glass of wine listed for 8$ on menu. read more

Very busy evening admittedly, however the waitress took 10-15 minutes to acknowledge us and another 5 to simply give us some water and run away for another 5 minutes. Drinks came 10 minutes later. We ordered the crab cake appetizer which was solid. The entree's were just ok but all of us felt lacked flavor. Server was busy/distracted and didn't bother to ask us how we felt about the food, nor did she ask if we wanted desert. Just saw we had finished eating, cleared the plates and dropped off the check. Really not a high value meal. Finally the room itself is quite noisy making it difficult to carry on a conversation. read more

We have been meaning to try the place ever since it opened, and we finally did. All I can say is I wish we hadn't waited so long. Everything was phenomenal. Cream of Asparagus soup - excellent. I love their food, but waitstaff and service made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable (FYI: I am a trained professional chef and have worked in Fine Dining). Have been there twice in past 2 weeks and each time greeted promptly, but with little enthusiasm. First visit we were asked if we had reservation. When we replied no, said they would have to look to see what was available (both times this happened). The first time put us at a table for 4 but we had 5 people, was a bit crowded and it was 5pm on a Friday with 3/4 of restaurant tables open (we actually discussed leaving after being felt unwelcome). Our Server was wonderful and found us an extra chair for end of table (her service was great also) after we had asked hostess if we could have a chair for the end and she said they were reserved, so no. We left at 6:30pm (spent $120+tip) restaurant 1/2 full with many tables empty. Second recent visit with my husband, a Sunday evening around 6:30. Again asked if we had a reservation....again about 1/2 tables empty and they had to look to see what was available. This was the same person who sat us last time and again with little enthusiasm. Server was attentive until we received our food and then came and brought check when she saw us with coats on....we had been waiting awhile. Never came back for payment. We left putting cash in folder. No-one noticed and no-one near the door extended good bye & thank you. These are all easy fixes....was so disappointed by lack of courtesy by some of staff after reading other good reviews. Otherwise great addition to the Lake Country Culinary scene based on menu. read more

I have had lunch and dinner at Sobies several times. It is great! Excellent beer list, varied entrees, always a vegetarian option.

My wife and I have been here several times and have often applauded the food. We're becoming more reluctant to return though, due to the inconsistent service. We'd been hoping to enjoy our Friday night out. We'd made reservations, arrived several minutes early, but ended up waiting nearly a half hour for a table. I can give a restaurant the benefit of the doubt on a busy night, but what had become more and more off-putting as we'd waited had been the lack any effort to seat us. We were the only guests in the waiting area, and it started feeling like we were forgotten about. We watched several guests leave their tables, but their tables weren't being cleaned. After waiting over 25 minutes, the last ten of which were definitely unnecessary, we'd asked on the progress of our table only to find that three tables were cleared and prepared towards the back. All but a young and pleasant hostess were totally unapologetic about our wait. And to add insult to it, I was astonished at how long it took to get service to both ours and our neighbor's table. The people seated just after we finally had waited twenty minutes before their server asked for their drink order. Again, something is lacking with their staff management as this hadn't been the first time we were witnessing service short-comings like this. read more

Finally gave this place a try and went on a Thursday evening around 6:30. No reservation which wasn't a problem. If the hostess would smile and greet you appreciatively, it would go a long way. The owner did greet us warmly. Our drinks were good and meals were very good, but service was slow. I think that was a problem with our server as other tables seemed well paced. Actually a couple of other servers asked if we'd been served because they noticed we had our menus a long time. Dinner was over 90 minutes - no appetizers or dessert, but I believe it's a problem with the server and not the kitchen. read more

I have tried to give this place a shot, more than once. We have been here three times over the last year. First time, went for their fish fry. They were sold out. Okay, fine. Second time, ordered their gnocchi. It was basically watered down gnocchis with giant lemon wedges squeezed over the top. Three people at the table ordered this, and it was inedible. And, not like their entrees are cheap, one wouldn't expect such a poor excuse for a meal. Tonight, we came for fish fry. Had a 6:00 reservation. Ordered the $14 cod fish fry. At 6:20 our waitress comes back and says they ran out of the cod. Are you kidding me?? 6:15 on a Friday night in Wisconsin. Come on. They did however still have the $21 perch fry. I asked if they would just substitute the perch for the same price of the cod, since I had ordered this and they ran out. At 6:15 on a Friday night. The waitress responded, "ohhh no, perch is way too expensive for us to substitute, we can't do that." We decided to order an appetizer and finish our drinks and get carry out elsewhere. Got the cheese curds. When they arrived I cut into one and they were still cold inside. Unreal. We won't be back. This place doesn't know how to treat customers, nor how to order the right amount of fish, clearly. Such a disappointment. Grill 164 up the street had great fish fry. read more

Went last night for an early Father's Day celebration. Service was superior. Our appetizers and meals were so tasty! You must try "Quack, Quack, Quack" poutine! Yum! Loved how they decorated the interior. So nice to see another great addition to our culinary choices in Lake Country! Will be back soon! We went for brunch last weekend. The items on the menu were definitely interesting sounding and we were excited to try them . It was not very busy (maybe 4 other tables) so we were disappointed that all of our meals arrived cold. The coconut French toast had a good flavor, as did the blueberry pancakes. The Mexican scrambler was not very flavorful. The cocktails took long to arrive but were good. Service was friendly. We are willing to give it another shot at a different time of day. read more

I'm a fan of the food and the drinks. I felt the service was personal. The issue is the time it takes to do everything. In four visits, they can't get close to estimating wait time. The drink order took 25 minutes to get to our table the last visit and we didn't see your waiter again. Our appetizer has shown up perfectly once. Not at all once. With the meal once...and the last trip, the drinks took so long, we left after an hour. They really need to get a handle on the timing. We are going to wait a couple more months before we return. If they don't have it fixed, we will wait longer next time. We really want this place to make it here. read more

Just finished a very good brunch on a beautiful Sunday in Wisconsin. Really loved the food and our waiter was very attentive. Came for a Sunday Morning Brunch and was very disappointed with the service. On an order for 4 people, we waited 30+ minutes for our food to come out. Food was average and was nothing special and the Bloody Mary's were sub par. The quantity was very disappointing for the price that was charged. When asked what we would like to drink a member of our party responded chocolate milk and then he said we don't have that right now so they then said orange juice. He then said "let me check." He returned later saying they did not have that either. When asked what all he had to drink and it was soda and water. At no point during the time we were there did the waiter return to take away glasses or refill water. When given the bill it had two extra items which we did not order on the bill, we then received more poor service as they took a while to solve our issue. If given the opportunity I would never return to this restaurant and visit one of other local restaurants. On a positive note, this restaurant received one star instead of zero because of the spicy carrots. read more

After some uncertainty about a new place, we recently decided to try it and were sooo pleasantly surprised. It's hard to tell by the names on a menu what it will really taste like, but the skill of the chef was evident in the wonderful flavors in the entrees. I thoroughly enjoyed the Wild Mushroom Stroganoff with chicken and homemade noodles, and had enough left to take home a second meal. My friend had a grilled pork tenderloin special served on a bed of mashed yams with perfectly prepared fresh green beans. After sampling each other's choice, we both agreed that the food was superior because of the complex flavors. Our server (Meg) was also most pleasant and attentive. Dinner with family was very delicious. Seated quickly, very attentive waitress who was knowledgeable about menu. She checked frequently as to whether we enjoyed the food, any needs, and was very professional. The food was outstanding. Our table ordered cheese curds as an appetizer, came with a delicious mustard dipping sauce. Entrees included Broasted Chicken, Shrimp and Scallops Pasta, Wild Mushroom Stroganoff, and Tournados au Poivre, all excellent. Well flavored, balanced and not salty, which is a pet peeve. We enjoyed the Lavender Rose creme Bruele for dessert which was light and delicious. Loved the ambiance of the restaurant, lively and fun. Overall, 5 stars, I'm coming back for sure. read more

I went to a tasting event at Sobie's restaurant in Oconomowoc tonight and found it to be a delightful experience from start to finish. The atmosphere and decor were both beautiful and inviting. The service was impeccable -- my water glass and coffee cup were never empty, and the wait staff was attentive and friendly. The walleye and side dishes were delicious, fresh and generous in their portions! I can't say enough good things about our experience and would highly recommend this restaurant. read more
