I came here with my parents after staying at Pechanga nearby for vacation. I chose to get their fish tacos are $13 for two. Tripa and cabeza street tacos ($3.50 each) for my mom and a menudo for my dad. A large agua fresca was $5.50. The tripe taco was crispy and not too greasy. The cabeza taco was moist and had a good amount of meat. The tacos came with onions and cilantro with guacamole on top. The menudo came with corn tortillas and my dad liked it. Just got some takeout and the food was good- totally on point. My favorite was the quesobirria taco- meat was delicious and well complimented by the salsas. Everything is made fresh, in front of your eyes (video). The food has a wonderful layer of flavors, that makes you want to come back and order more. LOL, we have done this after eating, to take home some more food for later. The family that runs this taqueria, also goes all out. They are friendly and very personable. You order at the Cashier Station and they bring your food out to your table. They even have nerve (LOL) to come by your table and check how everything tastes and if they can get you anything else. You have lost us as customers because of the girl working today. We called in our order and part way through the girl said very rudely "just a minute, I'm trying to do my job here!" Isn't taking an order her actual job? Then we had to call back realizing that she didn't ask what kind of meat we wanted. Got the same girl and she actually said "we usually just put chicken ". it says right on the menu "choice of meat"! When we got there to pick it up 10 minutes later there was only one customer in there so it's not like she was slammed. Got our carne asada bowls home and it was literally filled with fat. Another visit, another tasty experience. We ate at So Cal Tacos & Beer a few times and every time was equally satisfying. This small place offers good, authentic Mexican food and service. The variety of dishes is big enough for anyone to find something to order. You can opt for burritos, street tacos, protein bowls, menudo, birria, quesadillas, nachos, you name it. All dishes we tried were very consistent when it comes to flavours and textures. Ex. meat used for birria soup and tacos was cooked for a long time as it melted in our mouths and the seasoning was spot on. I enjoyed my bowl with rice, beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, and chicken. All ingredients blended well and tested good. The same goes for the street tacos. Make sure to try a few different options. This place is also known for their micheladas. They are beyond my taste buds expectations, and are absolutely delicious! Offered with the traditional Birra broth to dunk your bites; but I choose to further crisp-up mine in an air fryer and then eat with the pickled onions, jalapenos, hot sauce, and a salad on the side. Complete heaven! Be warned that they offer a set of three, but I suggest only a pair because these babies are PACKED with meat! We got three orders of the street tacos and 2 orders of the rolled tacos. My street tacos were all tripa (made extra crispy per my request). The crunch of the tripa with the corn tortilla topped with their habanero and red salsa was fire! There are other options for proteins for the more adventurous such as lengua or you can stick with your steak or chicken. It's completely customizable with mix and matching. I wish there was a taco joint like this closer to where I'm at in San Diego. The food is made fresh to order. In terms of ambiance, I get a dark club vibe with all the walls painted black. Stopped by for their Taco Tuesday special, which was $10 for 5 tacos. I thought the al pastor and lengua were both delicious in texture and how they were cooked. On the other hand, the seasoning on the meat here is lighter and less salted than most places, so definitely remember to take some salsa from the bar especially if you're getting takeout. The carne asada was my least favorite meat here, as it tasted unseasoned and mildly rubbery. Super friendly but efficient workers (you know what I mean here- friendly, but not tell me your life story and make it weird kinda friendly). The food is very generous. Big meaty fresh portions. They also have "low carb tacos" which we had to try after being told the "tortilla" is just crispy cheese. Yes. OMG. So delicious and big you really only need one. My sister is on that low carb lifestyle so she got those. I'm good with my carbs being a sturdier 60lb or so heartier- so I got myself those double corn street style tacos. Holy deliciousness. Must try. The salsas were all super flavorful and delicious. I'm a sucker for the green sauce. Not a lot of room to sit, but we typically come when it's slow during the day. Been wanting to try this place for a while and was really hoping it would be our new go to for local Mexican food, but unfortunately that won't be the case. We got 5 meals (3 adult combos and 2 kids meals) and all were a disappointment. The al pastor was chewy, fatty and very greasy. My quesadilla was literally dripping with oil and inedible. My mom and son got tacos which were also extremely greasy to the point that their hands were covered in it while eating. The rice was decent but the refried beans were so salty that none of us could even finish the small portions that were given. Hate to say it, but we threw most of the food away (which kills me to do!). We won't be returning to this establishment. On a positive note, the workers were friendly and nice upon ordering. I love cabeza and this was super tender and flavorful! The red salsa is really nice and spicy with great chili flavor and the green was good too. The asada was good, but I would order two cabeza next time. BUT the star for me was the fish taco! Even after being delivered the fish was super crispy on the outside but not at all heavy or greasy and the inside was cooked to perfection!
