Going by my fellow yelpers reviews we stopped in here for lunch. We walked in and were immediately seated. The waitress brought us a carafe of iced water to our table but no salsa and chips. You have to buy the salsa and chips separately. We ordered the mango salsa (spicy hot but, oh the flavor) The red roasted salsa (delicious, bold flavor) Also ordered the cheese dip, ohhhhhh myyyyyyy, get the cheese dip!!! It's the best cheese dip I think I've ever had, deliciously addicting. Ordered the chicken fajitas. Again...ohhhhh myyyy. The chicken was thick, tender, well seasoned pieces with onions and hint of lime. Delicious. I took a picture of it but for some reason it won't upload to this platform. We generally love these fusion taco places and this one definitely has good food! However, the atmosphere is overwhelming. After waiting over 45 mins to be seated, we were taken to a table in the middle of a small room that was packed full of people. The chairs were so close that whenever the waitress came around she was shuffling between us and I had to scoot up. It is so loud and really hard to enjoy a meal. It was more expensive than I expected, much more than somewhere like Torchy's that has way better food. Our server look about 15 minutes to greet us, we were so hungry and ordered right away to avoid waiting long for our food. Stopped in for lunch on Monday for a light lunch, food was excellent and came out quick. Located on the corner on the square in downtown Bloomington, it's street parking only but definitely worth the visit. The tacos were excellent along with the fiesta shrimp bowl. To start we indulged ourselves in some chips and queso. The seasoning sangria, harvest apple was like drinking fall in a mason jar. There's definitely something for everyone on the menu. Service overall was average but sufficient. Attentive when we needed it to be but also allowed us space to converse and enjoy our food. I'm so disappointed to even write this review. I've been following this restaurant for some time after seeing on an influencers page. My daughter had a sports event near Bloomington so I was excited to finally try it. We walk in early and the floor is so sticky, it feels like I'm walking through a frat house. I get we are in a college town, but eek! We get seated and there are broken chips all over the table. We sucked it up and used our napkins to wipe down the area. I ordered a sangria, which honestly tasted like a mix of several cheap drinks. The carnita taco was so plain, I wasn't even sure what to ask for to add some flavor. The queso was cold and chips tasted stale. I'm bummed, super bummed. I've seen so many great pictures and reviews that I couldn't believe it was the same place. I have been to social cantina a handful of times and always enjoy it! This was my first time getting the nachos and I could have eaten them all for my meal, so many different flavors and not too heavy! It was also the first time I ordered take out from here and it was ready in about ten minutes, and still just as fresh! Another one of my favorite parts of social cantina is the ambiance inside. Not only is the food great for personal dining, but we had an event here and the staff was AMAZING and super accommodating and we came in UNDER BUDGET!!! All of the chip dips are amazing. And. I love the tacos and the poke bowl- those are my easy faves. The Birria also looked really good and came with extra dipping sauce. But the DRINKS. THE DRINKS!!!! they are amazing. Took a trip down to Btown and this was the spot my sisters and I had to revisit. We love coming to social cantina, it's a great spot for dinner and drinks. I've been here many a times in undergrad, and it always is great! It's super nice that you can get in line on Yelp and be ready to be sat upon arrival. Hostess Logan was fabulous, even gave us some recommendations -- the Pork belly taco was incredible! The pork was juicy and the flavors meshed well. Also really liked the chips and queso fundido appetizer and the chicken quesadilla. We got some huge jalapeño slices in our queso that added the spicy kick. Oh my! Stop driving, park in the middle of the street if needed and run to social cantina! Seriously, we drive here from Chicago, found Social Cantina on Yelp and decided to try it out. Our waiter was A-mazing and spot on with his recommendations. Get the avocado and tuna app... sounds strange but you'll want to lick the bowl clean. Looking for a good Tex Mex on the square? Here you go! The menu has lots of variety for vegans and people with allergies. Prices are on the higher side and things like chips and salsa are extra. Do note that their top two spicy salsas are indeed spicy! The mango habanero salsa had me chugging my margarita to try to get the spice down! If you love very spicy foods, you should definitely try it out. We might have been at a busy time, but our waiter definitely was ready for us to leave. He brought us our check before we finished eating and didn't check if we wanted anything else. But, that isn't a reason to not check this place out. read more

They were out of a host of items including chicken and carne asada which was disappointing but not the end of the world. While this was unfortunate, the waitress told us ahead of time so I knew what item to order. However when my meal came, I was disappointed to see that the consume for my burria tacos was missing and she simply told me they were out and offered no solution. The tacos are already small and if I had been told they were out, I would have never ordered it, especially with it being $18. Was so excited to come in here after leaving about this place through a previous Yelp event. While I missed the overview of this place, I couldn't wait to get back down to Bloomington to try it out. Came here with my mom after the art fair a few weeks ago. We had great staff taking care of us and I really liked the whole vibe of this place. We started out with the street corn and I will always say that it's always worth the $1 to have it off the cob, but that's just me. We also got the chips and salsa. I didn't realize the corn came with chips (our fault we didn't read that) so we had lot of chips! Keep this in mind if you want salsa and another app to check! My mom had never tried Mexican street corn before and by the time we were ready to leave she was already looking up ways she could make her own at home because she thought it was fabulous, as did I. I had the strawberry margarita. Decent size and great flavor (not artificial tasting at all). I got the Mango Tango bowl and it was delicious. I love anything with a mango salsa. The seasoning/marinade on the chicken was super flavorful. My mom got a bowl as well, but hers was steak and I can't recall the name of it. She thought it was great and didn't have much to take home! I've been here twice. Both times I was in a group of three and seated on the patio. Their tables are painfully small and dishes are large, which is not a great combination. We ordered nachos and the tray took up nearly all of the table. The quality of the food is good, but slightly overpriced. Both times service was ok, but not as prompt as it could have been and servers didn't come back to check on us as often as I would have preferred. Solid venue for Tinder dates! If you don't live in Bloomington but you have success swiping right on IU students & faculty, this a solid place to meet up! Its on the lower traffic NW corner of the square which is easy to get to from SR37. Seating is plentiful. Parking is relatively easy. After your meal you can walk around the square or walk a few doors south the the Tap. Food is enjoyable and a terrific value. The tacos are stuffed to the brim and cheap for a brunch taco joint! The server was really nice and friendly but our entrees came out literally one minutes after our appetizer leaving us choosing between eating super fast or having some of our food get cold. The queso with chorizo was great until it got cold. The carne asada taco was great because I ate it while hot. The chicle tongs tacos were sloppy wet and soaked through the tortilla. This is a great spot for margs and some quality mexican food! I absolutely love ordering the marg pitchers and sharing it with the table. Between my friend and I we fill our cup at least 5 times so it is def worth it!! The waiters are always super nice and provide great service. The portions are big and the food is always fresh. I come to Bloomington a few times a year to visit family, and we tend to eat at the same few restaurants over and over. I decided to put an end to that and convince my mom to try someplace new, so we had lunch at Social Cantina. We ordered the chips and salsa sampler and elote to share. My mom got the ahi tuna bowl, and I got a fish taco, an ahi tuna taco, and a mushroom tamale. Everything we ordered was flavorful and my mom is already excited to come back for the food. Service, however, was friendly but a bit lackluster for the restaurant being less than half full. The elote came out last 10+ minutes after I reminded our server about it, which was around 20 min after all our other food had arrived. My mom asked for another napkin and our server forgot about it and didn't come back to check on our table for another 10 minutes after we asked. If you're in a hurry this may not be the best place to dine, but the food is good, and prices are fair. Our total was $65ish for our food, a glass of sangria, and a 20% tip. read more

This is a fan fave in my friend group, and for good reason. The food here is just SUPERB. My personal favorites are the social nachos, chicken quesadilla, and chips & queso--the queso is HOLY. The servers are mostly IU kids and they make it so much fun. The music is blasting and people are chatting, so this place is great for a fun social dinner. Do not order the Valentine's special they have advertised. My partner and I went last night and saw a flyer for it left with our menus and we asked the server if we could do that (starter, two entrees, and a dessert for $45) for our meal. She said it was no problem and brought food out as ordered. She looked to my partner for his order before I was finished ordering mine, and she wasn't very attentive with refills, but she was still kind. At the end of the meal, she didn't mention the dessert that was included so we asked about it and she said that she "entered our orders wrong in the system" so she could get us the dessert but would have to ask her manager to fix it, but she said this wouldn't be an issue. We waited for nearly ten minutes for our tres leches to be brought out (to-go), just for her to hand us the check and say "I couldn't fix it" before leaving... the check she handed us was $20 in addition to what the deal was supposed to be. We made it very clear from the start that we wanted to order that special that was advertised, but she entered everything in separately. What we had ordered was way too much food for us too, so had we known that, we would've ordered less to begin with so we wouldn't be stuck with to-go boxes. However, we were stuck paying over $65 for something advertised as $45 for a meal that was mediocre at best. I'm honestly ashamed that I didn't speak up more about it while we were there, but my partner just wanted to leave. The icing on the cake (no pun intended), was that when we tried the tres leches back at home later, it was the most dense cake we've ever had, we couldn't get past one bite. Considering the lack of communication and care, this was unusually disappointing and I will not be back anytime soon. Note: Our receipt that was taken home wasn't itemized but we ordered two diet cokes (knowing it would obviously be an additional cost- but not $20), the chips and salsa flight, my partner ordered three carne asada tacos, I ordered two fried mushroom tacos and one fried avocado taco, and we ordered the tres leches. Exactly the right amount of snap and great flavor. (I know chips sound easy, but these were some of best I ever had. You have toorder and pay for them, but worth it.)
