Talk about being spontaneous! I decided to try this place out on a day that seemed like a mini hurricane outside. Street parking was a pain for a weekday and I ended up at the church lot three blocks away. Charming little space with outdoor seating in the summer. I ordered the chicken sandwich that came with onions, tomatoes, tzatziki and french fries (inside the sandwich). It was very tasty and loved the tzatziki sauce. I would recommend having the sauce on the side if you do take out cause the pita gets very squelchy. I returned about a month later and dined in and the service was wonderful. I must say this is now my new go to place for Greek food. My personal favorites: Avogolemono soup. I like two things in the bitter cold - pho and Greek chicken and lemon soup. This place makes it almost as good as many Detroit Greeks where I know it's beyond authentic Chicken souvlaki - always moist, very tasty, but small portion when you order a platter honestly. You get one kabob basically with 5/6 small pieces Spinach pie - now this is something you have to have at least once. Large portion. Just a "meh" experience for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We had the falafel platter, which was ok. Nothing to rave or even comment about. The seafood platter special was also just ok, as it was mostly calamari in a bland tomato sauce. Usually, my reviews are more long winded...but our visit barely lasted 30 minutes. Let me explain the three stars. In the myriad of four and five stars for this establishment, here is me. Five stars is something I give to the very very very select few. From beginning to end I have to be floored. I have to wake up in the morning and say... "I must have you."... with my lips and arms protruding. This place has not done that for me. At one point in time I would have given Sofias a 4 and a half star rating. About a year and a half ago when I first discovered Sofias I couldn't rave enough about it. After being a loyal customer, I am so sad to see them lose their quality and consistency. I understand they have gotten more popular and I am happy to see a family run business doing so well, but come-on! I live 5-7 minutes away from them and always ordered some form of gyro and either the gigante beans (yum) roasted potatoes, or orzo with spinach, tomato, and feta. For nearly a year I got delivery with no problem. Than one day I call and find out its now a $15 delivery. What bothers me is not the minimum delivery but the fact that when you place a delivery they ask your phone number and keep your address in their system. I explained that I had been ordering at least twice a week for almost a year and always tipped well! Still the lady told me I must add something else to my order. (Great way to treat someone you know is a regular) :( Because I like their food so much I just accepted this change. Than a few weeks ago I went to pick up my gyro and there were literally 5 soggy sad french-fries. In the beginning they were crunchy, not greasy, and plentiful. I also ALWAYS request sauce on the side, not on my food. It was literally dripping with tzatki sauce. I took one bite and chucked it. The restaurant itself has a nice ambience and reliable staff. It is also Byob and I have enjoyed many dinners here. But at this point I would say save a few bucks and try Falafel King in Elmwood Park. The quality of the food is excellent. I like Mediterranean food and I have had quite a bit but every dish is perfect. My wife and I had lamb shank over orzo and moussaka. For appetizer we had spanakopita. The restaurant itself is clean and the service is delightful. read more

My girlfriends and I selected Sofia's as our next monthly dinner spot, and boy was that an excellent decision. It was a Thursday night, and the place was packed (always a good sign). We were seated immediately, handed our menus and our waiter filled us in on the nightly specials. We started with a few appetizers, the grilled calamari, hummus and pita, grape leaves, and the cheese puffs. The grape leaves are out of this world! Hands down one of the best I have ever had! They were the perfect size, perfectly seasoned and the stuffing was not rice based, but I think bread crumb based, served with lemon drizzled over the top. If you're a fan of grape leaves you have to try these. The grilled calamari was also delicious, nicely seasoned and not chewy, which is sometimes a concern with calamari. The hummus and pita, were clearly homemade and also super delicious. For dinner we all chose something different, I had the mousaka, which, was amazing!!!! For those who do not know what that is, it's a layer of eggplant and potato topped with seasoned ground meat and beschmel sauce, can you say heaven!! So delicious! Some other entrees we got were the gyro platter, grilled seafood platter, the skirt steak over Greek salad. Everything was awesome!! Sofia's is a cute little modern restaurant on the Boulevard. You can sit outdoors on warm days or choose to sit inside where they have booths and tables. Boyfriend and I decided to give this place a try since it's in our neck of the woods. Upon entering, we were greeted and seated immediately. I decided to go with the falafel pita and he went with the gyro pita, $6.25 and $6.50, respectively. Both came with a fairly small side of fries, which were seasoned beautifully. The pitas were packed (3 falafel balls and a ton of gyro that it was falling out). I found the falafel to be very good as was the tzatziki sauce. The portion was just right for me, but my boyfriend said he could've eaten another order. The prices are pretty good for the sandwiches, but wish they would add more fries to the order. Service was mediocre. It wasn't terrible, but our waitress never checked in on us and took forever to give us our bill. read more

Don't let the simple exterior fool you (as it did me), as the interior is well decorated, clean and very inviting. It's also not a huge place, so you may have to wait a bit but no problem. For large parties, call ahead they take reservations. We've been here numerous time in the past year and everything from Cold Pikilia appetizers to Gyro to Lamb Burger to Lamb Chops are delicious! One of our absolute favorite dinner spots in the area, especially for date night! We recently discovered they have an outdoor area too and would definitely go back to sit on the patio again with a bottle of wine. My favorite entree here is the Grilled Shrimp platter because it has a little bit of everything. I like to get it with a Greek salad and I absolutely inhale the pita and tzatziki especially with all of the shrimp drippings on it. Yum! The lamb kebab special is great when they have it, and my boyfriend loves the tilapia. If they have spinach dip as a special appetizer, GET IT. So good and the fried pita is really special. Gyro is minced meat... no thanks. Kalamaki comes with nothing... no tzatziki on the side, no pita. Nothing. $4.25 per a kalamaki. Other restaurants offer a whole souvlaki for that price and larger kalamakia. Good taste though, the avgolemono was good and the small tzatziki ($1) was Home made and delicious. YUM. My family and I live in town but finally went in and glad we did! It was packed!! Friday night. Can't make reservations (unless the party is 10+), portions are HUGE. Also, baklava is pretty darn good. I've had a lot of baklava, and we got the Baklava Cheesecake. They served half baked and half fried pita bread pieces which were BOMB. And we got the three dip dish appetizer. Spinach dip is sooo good. The staff was great, super friendly and attentive- even though it was crazy busy. Also, BYOB! Come hungry, I barely put a dent in my dish, and I eat like an ox. I have no complaints, other than it's a bit small and crowded but that's out of their control. Go go go go!! read more

The gyro meat was dry and and I felt I was eating the encrusted pieces of the gyro. The salad was very tasty - the deep fried chick peas was a nice touch. I just came back from dinner with my two boys and I have to say after coming here for years (since they opened) I had a very disappointing experience with my waitress and how the owner handled the situation. I ordered the children's orzo $6.50 and the children's pita pizza $4. After one bite of the orzo my son voiced that the orzo was mushy, I tried it, it was indeed mushy (which happens ) . I told the waitress and she was very rude, I received an attitude and she left it on the table. She didn't ask if we wanted anything else and walked away. I then had to call her over to order the chicken fingers for my son, since I didn't specify the kids meal, the chicken fingers and fries came out separately. During this time, a waiter told me my bill was taken care of by a friend of mine that knew I was dining there. At the end of dinner, I asked for a check, they told me it was taken care of by my friend, I then Asked for a receipt. The receipt read the chicken and fries to be $9 total and they kept the $6.50 orzo on the menu! Now I am not cheap By any means and dine at the most incredible restaurants, and I have always been a fan of Sofia's food, as a matter of fact we are regulars. When I questioned the waitress about the orzo and the cost of the other food she shrugged her shoulders and told me it's not up To her. So, I approached the owner, and her response...ready for this?? " don't worry, you didn't pay, your friend did" what???? That's not the point!!! And as I told her how it's the principle of the matter, she handed me $5.50! Just awesome! The food is great every time. We really like the mezza sampler. The Lamb shank is amazing and the salads are fresh and crisp. We really love the people too. I have been dying to try this spot for a long time now and I was happy I did! I knew from the moment we approached the restaurant it was going to be EXCELLENT. I was shocked to see it was HEAVILY raining on a Tuesday night and it was PACKED. The service was excellent, the waiter explained everything clearly and answered any questions I had on the menu. Had a gyro first time, falafel sandwich the second time - both were probably the best I've had outside of NYC!
