If I could give Sofia's 10 stars I would. I placed a call to the restaurant today around 11:30am and spoke with Nick. I told him that I wanted to order catering for the staff on the Covid19 unit at Hackensack University Medical Center. My mom is currently a patient on this unit so I was a bit panicked in my call, definitely scatterbrained. Within minutes Nick put together a menu that made sense (and worked within my budget) for the nurses and staff on the unit: Half trays of grilled chicken, grilled vegetables, falafel, rice, salad and dessert. Nick was so generous to offer to throw in all the drinks (sodas and waters) for free. All packaged with care. The food arrived in an hour. Even the hospital couldn't believe how fast it was delivered. I got a personal phone call from all of the nurses on the Covid unit at Hackensack UMC thanking me because they couldn't believe the amount of food and how tasty and healthy it was. The nurses said to me "we can't believe it we are all taking pictures of the food". The most special thing- I ordered a small pita wrap and falafel order for my mom who is sick, but still able to eat a bit. Nick assured me he would wrap is separately with her name on it so it didn't get lost. I live in California and so I've been relying on the kindness of strangers in New Jersey a lot and I knew Nick was going to keep his promise. Today I tried this place because I missed the gyros and the feta cheese from Greece..I had low expectations since most of european restaurants mix european with traditional American and they tend not to be so european..in this case I was blown away! The gyro is almost like the traditional one from Greece.it misses only some sauce ...but the rest is perfect. The grilled feta cheese is served in a hot pot - in Greece they had this kind and another one grilled in aluminum foil...and the one from Sofia's Mediterranean kitchen was perfect! The desert ...was just divine! A cheesecake with baclava ...just amazing. I am so happy I tried them! I will be back soon :) read more

Byob spot! Let me start by saying that the hostess who seems to be family with the owner needs better hosting skills. She told us 30 minutes when there were tables clearing when we got there . We were sat down in 5-10 mins tops. She wasnt the friendliest either. However, our waiter was friendly and attentive. As far as food, We got the grilled calamari. It was good. Not chewy. I got the gyro platter with greek salad and it was delicious. Huge portions too!! Will be coming back here soon read more

My first time was great! Sat outside with a party of four. Stuffed grape leaves were silky smooth and delicious. They offered a feta dip appetizer which I could eat everyday- very creamy and if you love feta (or cheese in general) it's a must. Large pieces of fried calamari were also on point. As an entree I opted for the seafood platter; grilled calamari, shrimp, and octopus. The shrimp was a home run- perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection- I ate these first lol. The calamari pieces were also good but probably my least favorite. Octopus was awesome, not chewy, and cooked right. If you're a seafood person I would definitely suggest this entree. Finished up with the baklava cheesecake. It was good but not all it's cracked up to be... I'll definitely go back; prices are reasonable, the food is good, and service too. read more

Sofia's is one of my favorite restaurants. They have a wide range of classic Greek cuisine, and everything that I've tried is absolutely delicious. My wife and I love the falafel, spinach salad with grilled shrimp, grilled octopus, and branzino. The service is great, and the owner is friendly and knows how to take care of customers. We love taking friends here for a fun night out, but Sofia's is also great for take out. With so many great options to choose from, Sofia's truly has something for everyone. read more

This is a wonderful, small, and cozy place with great food. Favorites - Beet salad and mousaka. I never knew I could like beets as much as I do now because of this salad. Bravo to Sofia's! The mousaka was great. The texture and taste was better than other restaurants I've tried. Best part is that it is reasonably priced for the food and portions. Everything I've tried from the regular menu as well as the extensive specials menu has been absolutely delicious. 1 of my top 5 restaurants I frequent. Sofia's is my favorite in this area for Greek /Mediterranean food. I've been here quite often and the food is always delicious. I've had Steak dinner, Greek Salad with grilled chicken, Grilled Chicken over sauteed spinach and orzos and have never been disappointed. The Hummus is authentic and delicious. The deserts are the perfect end to the perfect meal. I've had the baklava and cheese cake, a perfect blend of sweet, crunchy and creamy. The portions are plentiful, I always wind up taking home my leftovers. The ambiance of the outside cafe area is lovely. The waiters and waitresses are professional and kind. I do wish it was a little more roomy and hidden from the street a bit but the area is small. Even inside is a bit crowded due to the small space. Even so, it doesn't stop me from going back. Usually there's a wait, but we walked right in and were seated (6:30 pm on a Friday, not normal!) there was a wait for outdoor seating. The food is sooo good! we ordered the grilled octopus & a side of hummus. The octopus was soft, but not rubbery with just enough olive oil and lemon. The hummus was soooo good!! It's served with pita & fried pita AMAZING. My husband ordered the steak salad with arugula salad ( 1.50 charge for arugula instead of salad), they topped it with tomato & goat cheese, and a side of roasted potatoes. His comments were that the steak was perfectly cooked (medium rare), arugula delicious & potatoes perfect combination of roasted & soft. I got the seafood medley, and replaced the rice pilaf with Greek fries. Seafood was soooo good. I requested a side of tzatziki for the fries & it was perfect. By the end of all this eating we were stuffed & had no room for dessert. I ordered a delicious looking cappuccino & it enjoyed it. Definitely recommend Sofia's for a date night. read more

I can't give a five star review because we didn't have an entree. We shared a handful of apps here - dolmas, eggplant and zucchini chips, the dip plate and falafel. Dolmas were my favorite, but they always are in any Mediterranean shop! The hummus was slightly different - creamier than typical. Cucumbers seemed like they'd been in the dip for a while - possibly not as fresh as you'd expect. Eggplant was so, so good! Falafel was good, not great because it was slightly dry. I like to be able to eat falafel without dip, but this needed hummus! read more

Could not recommend this place more!!! Mediterranean is my favorite food, and this restaurant serves it perfectly! This is a BYOB, which explains the great service and attention to the food. The dolmades are not oily, and have such a wonderful taste. The shrimp saganaki is just amazing, especially the tomato sauce that it is served in. The stuffed eggplant special entree was amazing, so flavorful and the perfect portion. The combo platter(chicken, gyro and pork) is so succulent and the tzatziki sauce just makes it all come together so well! The service is so helpful, and the espresso after dinner is bold and perks you right up! read more

Normally Sofia's is a great choice for delicious Greek food. Not sure if it's pandemic pricing, but I paid $28 for a large Greek salad with grilled chicken and an order of feta dip. The salad, normally $12 was delicious but the size was smaller than what other restaurants in town are serving and the 4 small strips of room temperature chicken were not worth the extra $5.50. We get the feta dip all the time and normally it comes with a decent amount of pitas, but tonight it only came with 2. I appreciate that we're in challenging times, but Sofia's was one of the first restaurants in town to open for outdoor seating, clogging up the side walk and bringing in what seemed like a ton of customers. I'm sure they are still suffering financially and food has gotten more expensive, but for $28 I could've gotten a lot more food at another place. The food was great, but if you're on a budget, save Sofia's for a special occasion. read more

Was in the area Saturday afternoon and dropped in for a late lunch. Seated immediately, and ordered gyro platter over Greek salad and Horiatiki salad with gyro. Gyro platter was solid with a generous amount of gyro meat. The real star was the Horiatiki salad. Pure summer on a plate. Tomato, cucumber, red onion, feta all lightly dressed...a perfect summer salad. Gyro meat was well seasoned and finished with a bit of sear to create a little crust. My 'negative' is the smallest of pet peeves - - - $1.65 for a can of Coke. read more

A gem on the Boulevard. Reservations NOT accepted so on a Friday and Saturday night you could wait an hour for a table even with the outdoor dining in pleasant months. Parking on the Boulevard is always a hassle. The octopus appetizer was cooked to a total tenderness. BYOB and lovely glasses are provided. The Bronzini special ($35.00) oreganato was a delight. The gyro platter (beef, not lamb) was a generous portion and very tasty. The calamari rings were cooked to perfection. People were busy with the great food so there was little phone checking during our visit. and we go there there or four times a year. The restaurant is noisy due to the tin ceiling but what do you expect from a packed restaurant any way. We were too stuffed to have dessert but save room for the Baklava. I have eaten the rice pudding there. I am not sure if it is homemade or Cosco or Restaurant Depot, but it is good. read more

My husband and I tried this place a couple of years ago while traveling in the area, and loved it so much that we remembered it and returned while in the area again. Our waiter took our order and was obviously disinterested in my request that my dish be prepared "light on the oil", as he impatiently responded that they only use olive oil. I ordered grilled chicken over tomato orzo, and my husband ordered lamb kebabs (done medium-rare) with Greek salad. After a fairly long wait, our dinners arrived. Both meats were overcooked and dry. My chicken was so dry, it tasted like chewing on a blanket. Our waiter never once checked on how our food was after dropping it in front of us, never filled our water glasses, or even looked in the direction of our table.
