I really like the decor and ambiance of this restaurant . Hostess was welcoming and the two servers/bartenders were very attentive. They have a fresh guacamole station behind the bar but I came in for a quick work lunch so I didn't have time to sample that. I ordered the wings appetizer and street corn appetizer . Everything came out flavorful, hot and quickly . They have a wall of hot sauces and I don't think I would be exaggerating if I said there was a 100 to try from. My company did a big order from here for a luncheon. First the delivery was late not Sophia fault apparently but we did not receive a phone call as a courtesy. Second some of the items we paid for were not in the order. We called back and the hold time was brutal. I asked for us not to be charged due to one the lateness and two the fact that items were missing. We requested hard shell tacos it were not provided with this in the order and were missing the tortilla chips that accompany the guacamole and salsa we requested what we ordered and wanted an extra salsa as a courtesy. The restaurant wanted to charge us for the hard shell tacos. After many hold on hold on finally they said ok. Now on to the food the guacamole was flavorful, the chicken and steak was dry like it was sitting there for hours. The corn and vegetables had no flavor unseasoned and mushy. The potatoes and chorizo were pretty ok. The chips tasted stale and the soft tortillas were over heated and began to stick together which also made the gummy. I cannot speak on the salsa because I did not have any but I did order s Cesar salad which they put thousand island dressing instead of Caesar dressing which was odd. Someone recommended this place to us but my office stated never again. Maybe it's better if you go into the restaurant I cannot tell you about the ambience. WOW! What a great time! A lot of my friends have been raving about Sofia's so I had to go and check it out for myself. I went at the start of Happy Hour which runs from 3-6 during the week at the bar. It's a GREAT way to try new foods at an awesome price. In addition to a regular margarita (for $6) I got a chicken taco, carnitas taco, and a chicken/cheese empanada. This was my first time having an empanada and first time trying carnitas! Everything was extremely fresh and absolutely delicious. Our server/bartender was so nice and provided outstanding service. My boyfriend had the carne asada tacos and it literally took him about 3-4 min to finish his first bite he said it was crazy chewy and the sauce was too much. In that time I finished 1 whole taco. A friend and I met up at Sofia's Taqueria on a Sunday. It's a local spot for her and one she frequents often. It's a cute spot with an eclectic look inside, cool looking bar, and an outdoor patio area with nice music playing. Food was solid. I enjoyed my Shrimp Corn Omelette off the brunch menu. For apps, we shared Crispy Wings. My friend ordered the Chorizo Potato Tacos and liked it. Note: Not a place to go to if you want to have conversation over your meal. The music isn't loud, but I remember having to raise my voice a lot while talking with my friend. Also, there were - I'm not kidding you - four birthday celebrations that one time we were there. There is patio in the back u can dine at but a thunderstorm was on its way so we opted to stay inside. So the presentation was amazing made me want to eat the food BUT (of course there's a but) the food flavor wise was missing something salt ,lime something. Ordered a Chimichanga didn't realize it was going to cost almost 19.00 !!! Seriously it was chicken not filet mignon !! For small plates we had the Mexican street corn which was delicious, wings and dipping sauce lacked flavor, shrimp and chorizo quesadilla was flavorful. For tacos we had the duck mole, carnitas, and carne asada. The carnitas were dry and lacked flavor. The duck mole was very good. Carne asada was flavorful. It was an ok meal. The menu is fun but nothing out of the ordinary. I felt as if the menu is Americanized Mexican. The server brought over chips and salsa, the salsa seemed to be bought and not house made. Server never refilled the chips. I needed to ask for water for the table it wasn't automatically served. Tacos seem interesting but they are on the pricy side and they do not allow for mix and match. So I ordered a burrito. The burrito was a chicken burrito and needed some flavor. My friend ordered a steak burrito and complained about lack of flavor as well. I ordered from here once and I my was pretty tasty. It was a big order and we received a free pitcher of margarita. The place was like a 15 min drive away and they made a comment about that. In love with this new neighborhood addition! We didn't have reservations so we couldn't be seated right away and the place was busy (got even busier later into the night). So we stood by the bar and ordered a couple of drinks: the Mezcal Mule (must!) and the Tijuana Tea. We didn't leave a name with the hostess but somehow she knew who we were and where to find us- attentive service you might say. We had just started on our drinks when our table opened up about and we were seated and attended to right away. Our beef empanadas and elote came out quickly - and I will definitely reorder the beef empanadas the next chance I get. We also ordered the carnitas, fish, and duck mole tacos - all were incredible, each dish comes in a set of 3. I'll start with the carnitas: served with a layer of crispy pork skin on top, the carnitas was my favorite taco of the night; great flavor and really soft taco. The beer battered fish taco was also delicious, I would suggest you ask for hot sauce to compliment it (if hot sauce is your thing). Finally, the duck mole taco comes served in a hard shell taco, but really not that hard, almost wafer like and thin and tasted like Cocoa Puffs. I loved the play on flavor of the mole and highly recommend this to anyone intrigued by creative takes on traditional flavors (cocoa hard shell tacos?!) Our server missed the duck mole at first but the confusion was quickly and easily fixed and our replacement dish came quickly. I don't even know where to start other than if you haven't tried this place, you're really missing out! I only have a few criticisms so I will start with those: - The place isn't very ADA/Disability friendly. There are two floors, the first floor is pretty tight/small, so if you end up here on a crowded night, you may have to wait a while if you can't walk up a HUGE flight of stairs. Also, the bathroom isn't friendly in the sense that the toilet is very, very low. - Some things were a bit overpriced, but not terrible. I'll explain down below. - The margarita flavor choices are a little odd, none of which stood out to me. - One of the busboys was extremely rude, to the point where it became a topic of conversation at my table. - At 7:40PM the music got extremely loud, out of nowhere. Of course you expect this on weekends, but I felt it was a little early for that level of music. Now let's get into the good stuff: The decor is amazing is amazing. They really paid attention to detail. The bathroom was stunning. The overall decor makes the experience feels really authentic. Food: You start off with your typical chips and salsa. Nothing too special. Appetizers - Crispy Chicken Flautas: These were delicious! They were actually pretty thick and full. The seasoning inside was delicious. The avocado ranch was the perfect touch on the side, we actually saved it to add to our entrees. - Bay Street Corn: Also extremely delicious but the portion was disappointing. We have been to countless Mexican restaurants (our number one choice) and we've always been given two ears of corn. Here we were given one pretty thin ear, cut down the middle. I did chalk it up to it not being in season. Entrees: - Cheese Empanada & Beef Empanada: hands down the best empanadas I have ever had. They were so tasty, flaky, and cooked to absolute perfection. They also give you 2-3 empanadas, which I didn't realize. Definitely worth it! - Steak Burrito: The perfect mix of all ingredients! The tortilla was delicious and toasted to a perfect texture. Said to be the best burrito he's ever had. - Side of rice and beans: (if you caught on to the trend here) also delicious! And a huge, full plate! I was shocked when it came out! Dessert: - Cookie Butter Tres Leches: Oh. My. Gosh. This was THE PERFECT ending to the meal.
