    Firehouse Fish Tacos

Last weekend during the art festival, my wife and I decided to check out Sofrita restaurant located in Fountain Hills. The area was alive with artists and crowds, and the restaurant itself had a really nice buzz. However, due to the festival, their menu was significantly limited compared to normal operations. For our meal, we selected the fish tacos which were offered a la carte. While the fish tacos were reasonably tasty with fresh components, they were not served hot enough and came out somewhat lukewarm, which affected the enjoyment. Moreover, the meal turned out to be kind of pricey given the a la carte pricing structure. Although the location is great and staff friendly, the overall experience didn't really impress us enough. Honestly, we are not sure if we will return to Sofrita in the near future.

Sofritas is awesome you guys! The food here is always delicious. I gave 3 stars because we were excited to try the happy hour and it was probably the lamest happy hour I've ever experienced. SKIP THE HAPPY HOUR TACOS, and get the regular menu tacos. They were so so. The chorizo tasted more like a pork stew/roast than a chorizo. The bean tacos are just black beans. And the beef is just beef. Nothing fancy. Can't beat it for $1.25 each, but I would have rather paid $15 and gotten the fish or shrimp Just my suggestion If you don't believe me just order one to try it, before you order a bunch

I'm so disappointed. My husband and I only get to go to Sofrita's when we're in town a couple times a year. Been going since it opened and was a huge fan of their guacamole, breakfast burrito and chicken salad. Sadly, this is the first time we were let down on all fronts. No more single serving portions of guacamole... $15 was the minimum order. Because my husband doesn't eat it, the single serving was perfect for me. They stopped serving eggs... so no breakfast burrito for him. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and what a disappointment that was. Instead of the usual chunky pieces of fresh chicken, I got hard pieces of old chicken that tasted like it had been sitting in the refrigerator for a week. The Mayo dressing was even broken down to nothing but oil. I couldn't eat it and sent it back. We left and ate elsewhere. I felt bad for the server because none of it was his fault. But so disappointed as we looked so forward to this for weeks. What happened to this place?? Two stars only because the Service was fine and the lemonades were delicious. But I hope they fix the food and menu problems.

Cute spot right downtown fountain hills. The food is delicious, good options. We got the Brussel sprouts for an ap, the bruschetta board, the shrimp tacos and the pork shoulder. As noted in the other reviews, the service was slow. But the woman was sweet and seemed overwhelmed with her tables. We sat outside enjoyed the beautiful night and it was not a problem. The yummy food was worth it but not the place if you are in a rush

We were on the way home from a day trip and decided to stop somewhere new for an early dinner. My husband chose Sofrita in Fountain Hills. First and foremost, the location is quite nice .. the street that the restaurant is on has plenty of parking, and it very much reminded me of Palm Springs. The big fountain is just down the road and a big playground for kids. There was plenty of outdoor seating at the restaurant as well as some tables inside. The weather was wonderful, so we dined outside. Their menu is simple - tacos, salads, a few breakfast-all-day items, and a few appetizers. I got a mango margarita to drink which was good. For dinner we ordered the papas del padre (potato wedges) which came with mustard aioli and chipotle mayo; I really liked this appetizer. The potatoes were fried perfectly and the dipping sauces were both nice. My husband got the breakfast burrito which was a good size with plenty of filling; he liked it. The fish tacos I ordered were pretty mediocre; the fish itself was fried well and was very light, but the taco was very dry. It didn't have a lot of flavor and could've benefited with some sort of sauce on top. Service was good. Our server was friendly and attentive. Overall, given the price of the food and quality, it was just ok. Not on the top of my list to come back to.

Fun spot! The service was quick and the patio seating was very nice. We got lucky and went during a slow Sunday. Their lemonades were delicious! It's always a slight bummer to me when you have to pay for chips and salsa, but we did and enjoyed the flavor of the chips. It's about $7 a basket. The salsa was good too but could use a little more spice. We ordered the shrimp tacos (so good!) and the firehouse fish tacos. It was pretty tasty! I'll have to be back to try the bruschetta everyone else mentions. But overall a fun spot near the fountain!

The restaurant ambiance is classy yet relaxed, not overly stuffy, but visually clean and inviting,…read morelike you feel better about yourself when walking in somehow. You know you are in for a true fine dining experience. We started off with some cocktails and I was very impressed with the clear ice cube in my Smokey Old Fashioned as it was branded with the "Toro" logo. It was so smooth and probably the best Old Fashioned I ever had, so I had 3 more! My wife throughly enjoyed her Espresso Martinis also. I started off with the Grilled Octopus and nearly cried because it was so good. This is a food favorite of mine and although I love the flavors, most restaurants over cook it and you need to cut it with a steak knife. Not this dish, no knife necessary, your fork will do. So tender, so flavorful, so amazingly delicious. The Mrs. ordered the crispy calamari and was thoroughly impressed as the texture was what fresh calamari should be and not the rubbery texture you get from 8 out of 10 other places. Seasoned to perfection with spices but not overly spicy. My wife can't bear spicy anymore , but she really enjoyed it. I finished it for her of course, because she always remembers to leave room for desert and never finishes anything. And I'm glad because I always get to taste her meals too. It's a win-win for me! I then had an off-the-hook Ceviches that rivaled my own. I am also a part-time cook and also wrote a cookbook. Ceviche is a particular dish that I compare to other restaurants and until now, never found another place that compares to mine. Toro doesn't disappoint my friends. Now for the entrée, Lomo Saltado for myself and a medium rare Ribeye for the Mrs. The Lomo Saltado was beef tenderloin on creamy rice, crispy potato, heirloom tomato, bell peppers, Rocoto Aioli and a Chifa Soy Sauce. It was mouth watering. The beef tenderloin was cooked a little on the well done side, but my bad for not specifying to cook it medium rare. It was still amazing and not a big enough deal to even mention it in the review, but I just want you to specify your preference when you order yours. My wife had the 14 Oz. Ribeye, medium rare ( she thought it was also medium but I found it to be medium rare myself) it was soooo good. She had a side dish of Crispy Brussels sprouts that were unworldy. We never had Brussels sprouts that good, it must be the sherry vinagrette and cotija cheese. Unreal. I had a side of shishito peppers that made my heart happy. My favorite peppers are not usually available everywhere so it was a real bonus to the meal. Desert, well the desert was worth the wait. We both ordered the Ube Basque Cheesecake. It is a dark purple colored slice of heaven with masa crumble, Yuzu espuma and coconut jam. The presentation was stunning. We even enjoyed espresso with sambucca to finish our dining experience. How many places offer espresso on their menu just to inform you the espresso machine isn't working? Just another bonus for us. Price wise, what you would expect for a high-end restaurant in a beautiful resort area of Scottsdale, no sticker shock there, but still, I'd save this place as a never can fail go to for a first date, anniversary, job promotion, marriage proposal, special occasion restaurant. They also do breakfast, brunch, lunch and Happy Hour. I hope you get to experience this place at least once. Put it on your bucket list, you'll be glad you did!
