The food is great. Fish tacos were really good. The margaritas are huge, the Bloody Mary's are good. The patio is lovely. The service could be improved. We asked for water so many times and never got any that it became an ongoing joke for the weekend about not getting water in the desert. I think they were just understaffed, like everyone right now. Sofritas, hands down, has the best fresh, healthy, tasty salads in town! My favorite is the Lo Santo (Chopped) Salad but all their salads are yummy. I always get my Lo Santo/Chopped Salad with an order of the garbanzo fritos and I sprinkle some on top for a little crunch, more texture, and it goes perfectly with all base salad ingredients and delicious dressing! If you love salads, you must try this! I never get out of there without an order of chips/salsa/guacamole which are amazing, too. ALL of their food is fresh and delicious. I was at Sofrita on 3/21/24 with friends. My husband and I both had the shrimp tacos. Within 5 hours of eating, I suffered severe food poisoning. My husband was fine; I must have had a different batch of shrimp. I ended up going to the Honor Health walk-in and HH ER for treatment. Not sure what is going on in their kitchen, but we will never go there again. read more

A trip to Phoenix and some quick Yelp searches in Fountain Hills brought my wife and I to this inconspicuous local restaurant. My wife and I love discovering hidden local gems, and I believe we hit the nail on the head with Sofrita. With its Latin American charm, excellent service and fresh food, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for some delicious modern Mexican/Latin American cuisine. For starters, I live the ambiance of this place. It really has that local feel (reminded me of some of the local places we discovered in the Caribbean). With an open kitchen, bar, and indoor and outdoor seating, you'll feel at home the moment you step through the door. The staff let us pick any table available (inside or outside) and handed us some menus. We then started with some drinks, a white sangria for my wife (with lime, pineapple and orange) and an iced tea for the driver (me). Both drinks were very refreshing. When it came time to order some food, we started with some chips and guacamole. The guacamole was very unique (the avocado and spices were mixed with jalapeños, tomato, green onion, lime and pipitas) but SO good, especially with the tortilla chips, which were crunchy and had the perfect amount of salt. We then moved to entrees - shrimp street tacos and pork verde tacos. Wow were these delicious! The pork verde tacos were hot, juicy and sweet/spicy (fixings included vinegar slaw, pineapple salsa, and pepitas on a double corn tortilla). The shrimp tacos were equally fresh and juicy. Homemade cuisine at its finest! When all was said in done, we left feeling incredibly satisfied. I'd love to visit this place again and highly recommend it to others in the area! read more

Honestly this place is really a 3 and 1/2 star place. I came across this while I was at the car show by the fountain since I was hungry and I didnt want burger or pizza or their food trucks around. Over priced things here. Just my opion on those. So I ordered the fish tacos. The tilapia not the salmon. I found it very appetising and the mango pico complimented well. What I really liked about them was it wasnt over battered and I found it just right. It wasnt anything over the top. I also ordered chips and salsa. The portion they gave I believe should be complementary and not $3 plus I got charged $0.50 for a second round. But I guess that's better than getting charged full price again. I really liked how they had thick chips and the salsa was really good. Could be spicier but seeing how the area is. Prob wont be like that. The waitress that waited on me did very well. I could have wished she checked on me before I received my dish soni could have ordered more chips and salsa. But I realized the place was starting to get packed as the lunch hour was coming to a peak. Overall it's a nice place. Some of the menu items I dont feel goes with the restaurant. But it's not mine. If it works dont mess it up right? It's worth trying. But I prob wont stop by again if I was in the area. read more

Went there with some friends the other day. It was Happy Hour. The Cadillac Margaritas are NOT on the happy hour menu. The Guacamole Grande was okay but the chips were less than acceptable. The check came, there were six of us. They added an 18% gratuity and did not let us know. Thank goodness we looked at the charges. Margaritas and chips for six.... Total $110.00. No way Jose. Location is great. Decor is cute. Food is alright, definitely not spicy, but well presented. Menu is pretty stale and doesn't seem to change at all. But the biggest disappointment, when we went this week, was the poor attitude of the hostess/waitress. I don't think we ever saw a smile on her face, and she did not make us feel welcomed or appreciated at all. No greeting when we walked in and just very transactional during our dinner. We were a larger group and the tip got automatically applied, so she had zero incentive to make the experience a great one. Won't return. read more

An eclectic Caribbean, Central American menu. Don't come here thinking you're going to get Mexican food that looks like every other place in America. There is some deep thought into what they offer, using fresh ingredients and a very tight menu, you will be pleasantly surprised if you're not familiar with Caribbean/Central American foods. We have had nothing but superb service here over the years, and even during the crazy crowded art festivals. This restaurant recognizes locals, and treats them as the valuable asset that they are to restaurants in a tourist town. However, I've never seen tourists given poor service. This restaurant is one of a handful in Fountain Hills that really "gets it" regarding customer experience in a tourist town. And the mixed drinks here are stellar, while the limited craft beer and wine selection includes some of the best. No complaints that they don't have 30 craft beers or 15 wines, we're more than happy with the small choice that they offer. Good stuff! read more

We used to love this place but probably won't be back. Food this time was bad or only okay and our service was some of the worst experience we have had in a long time. I'm giving one star because my blueberry mojito was tasty and Yelp requires one star. We had reservations and were directed to our table when we got there where we sat for over fifteen minutes without being acknowledged at all. Finally get a drink and app order in. Don't get the fried calamari. I have never had calamari that was crunchy before (the calamari itself underneath the breading was crunchy). I'm from the Midwest so I don't have high expectations for seafood in any landlocked state but this was just bad. They did end up comping that and giving us free chickpeas with our entrees. But our entrees made it to us over an hour after our reservation time. The chicken tacos were barely lukewarm. My fish tacos were good but at this point I was pretty over being there in general as we were largely ignored (like we sat with our barely touched calamari for over half an hour and no one asked how we were doing). Very disappointing time to our annual AZ trip. At least we had this experience and can warn our visiting friends to find a new spot for dinner in Fountain Hills. read more

Nice little spot. Had the chilaquiles which were decent. Green sauce was a tad tangy for my liking, but still really enjoyed it. Note that it comes with layered tortillas, not chips, which were good. We ate at Sofrita for the first time and had a very tasty meal. The front patio was relaxing and fun under the tiki hut roofs. The inside of the restaurant looked very cozy and inviting, perhaps another time we will stop by for drinks inside, but this was a day for eating outside in the warm, breezy spring air. With such an extensive and interesting menu, it was hard to choose what to order. We started with the guacamole, which was very fresh and tasty, a generous portion with roasted pepitas on top, great chips and salsa on the side. My husband ordered the shimp tacos and liked them very much. My fish tacos were super. Both proteins were crispy and not greasy. Good flavors in both choices. I did notice another patron who had ordered the taco ropas, and they looked incredible. This will be my next choice when we come again. The service was very efficient and super friendly. read more

I want to like this place, I do but I struggle with even the 3 stars. I have been here a handful of times before deciding to post. I find the place awkward entirely. Do I seat myself? Do I wait? Is that the front entrance or is there another one? Staff just looks at you and there is no greeting so it adds to the confusion. The staff does appear more friendly this time but most times in the past, no so much. On every occasion I've never got water or have had to ask several times for it, need to ask for silverware often several minutes after food arrives and I can go on. My food has been good sometimes very good but it almost gives me anxiety to deal with everything else lol ...I don't want to give up but it needs some help with details and events and could be epic. read more

What a bummer. Most times when you give a place a low rating it's the service or 1 or 2 items is wrong but in this case the food just is not good. At all. Everything basically tasted frozen and just stale. The menu is random. Doesn't fit the theme. Didn't have an identity. Not truly tapas, not Mexican, not Puerto Rican, not Spanish, just a hodge podge of dishes. None well executed. Jack of all trades master of none. I've had better apps from frozen food section that heated at home. Our server was very nice and the ambiance was good on patio. I hate writing bad reviews but we had looked at trying this for a few years and it was beyond disappointing. Maybe we can save fellow yelpers the mistake. read more

Five star for their service! We came here last weekend for late dinner. Server, bartender, chef, owner, and everyone we encountered was very friendly and went above and beyond for their service. We had some mix up for the drink order, but they quickly made the drink my friend ordered and they also gave us small appetizer to apologize for the mistake they made... Honestly I don't remember, it could have been me made the mistake as what they made was what I was thinking about ordering. They didn't have to bring complimentary appetizer but they did anyway. We ordered per suggestion from our server. Bacon wrapped dates, Guacamole and Paella (gluten free as they substituted something). Based on my previous experience from other tapas place, I didn't think ordering 3 dishes won't be enough but we ended up taking some home. Portion size was larger than other tapas restaurant I visited in the past. They packed leftover very nicely. The server said they dropped the half of the bacon wrapped dates and brought the other half. You know they didn't have to disclose to us, they could have just waited to bring this later or don't say anything but they were honest and explained what happened. Drink and food I ordered was just average for me but I really enjoyed their friendly service and honesty. Very lovely ambiance located close to the fountain. This place is really great. I have only come here after spending some time at the dog park down the street. Why? Well by then my pup is tired and Sofrita allows dogs on the patio (not just outside the fence). Be prepared to be on Spanish time when you dine here. The service is slow and no one is ever in a hurry. This can get annoying if you aren't expecting it. They have great sangria's, served in huge glasses with lots of fruit. The chips and salsa is really good! The chips are made fresh and so is the mild salsa. If you want it hotter you're going to have to add some hot sauce. The tacos are quite doog and a steal at $2 a piece (less during HH I think). My favorites are the pork and potato...stay away from the chicken, dry and boring. Definitely a great place to relax, take it slow and enjoy an afternoon on the patio. read more
