We really enjoyed our experience at Sogo. It was our first time here and we came with a party of 15. There were two hibachi chefs and they were both very entertaining. Our chef had good energy and our daughter had a great time! The food was as expected for a hibachi place. I ordered the chicken and scallops and it was good. The dining area was very loud but I was able to have a conversation with the people around me. If we wanted to come to hibachi again, we would definitely consider coming to Sogo! read more

Love love the food here and it's definitely some of the best hibachi that I've had. I'm a big fan of the noodles which are super flavorful and garlicky. Hibachi doesn't come with fried rice, but you can add it on for a couple of bucks and it's so worth it. My filet was also cooked to perfection. Knocking off two stars because service was painfully slow! We had a 5 PM reservation and they didn't even take our order until 6 PM. Normally with a drink in hand I wouldn't mind, but this was tough with a group of kids. Speaking of kids - ours were being wild, and all of the staff was really nice about it. It seems like they are pretty used to kids running around, and luckily they have a huge indoor dining space with a fountain to keep the kids occupied. Let's just hope that no kids actually end up in said fountain, lol. Overall this is a great spot for hibachi, and despite a long wait time I'd come back again any time that hibachi craving hits. read more

As Hibachi goes this is a pretty nice place. A bit dated and a little worn, but nice. We were party of 9 so we had our own table. Upon being seated we were immediately served Mushroom broth and Edamame. We all ordered various Hibachi combinations. Filet Mignon with lobster, steak with shrimp, scallops with shrimp, etc.. All Hibachi meals include noodles and grilled vegetables. Pro tip. They will ask if you want fried rice as well. Note that fried rice is an additional charge. Most of our party went with it but really didn't eat much. Not that it wasn't good. It's just unnecessary given the meal already comes with a generous portion of noodles. With all that said everything served was excellent. Our Hibachi chef wasn't an incredible showman but he covered all the standard schlick. I also ordered a couple pieces of Saba sushi which were outstanding. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was that there were a few very long gaps in service. We did make a reservation- and good thing cause the place was PACKED when we got there which is usually a good sign of great food. We all got hibachi and I splurged for a pinacolada! What a treasure of a sushi restaurant in Denville ! If you know me I like ambience more than anything . I did a take out because it was early sat pm . Wanted to be home . Worked out well brought the black rice lobster roll and seaweed salad home and enjoyed it immensely ! A dazzling place and now I learned they have happy hour for drinks and special rolls etc. Need to try that on a week day - they played approachable 70s music I would even prefer Asian for full effect but that's me . The restaurant was very beautiful but that was probably the only good thing besides our server who was friendly. The food was not good quality for the price and we could tell the cook did not want to be there as he put on his little show. I was hoping for at least good food but the scallops were very fishy and the steak did not taste good either. The quality was not there. The fried rice was tasty and crispy which I enjoyed so thank God for that. The amount of food served was good but because it didn't taste good it was not even worth it. My husband who ordered a veg pad Thai did not receive his food until after everyone else in the party was almost done eating which did not make any sense. Had a great evening with my Meetup Group here last Thursday. Hibachi Chefs here are really great and the Service was top-notch. Cocktails were quite good, and they used fresh ingredients for their fruit based drinks. We were a large group, and each of us ordered different types of Protein for the Hibachi, and everything tasted good. Seafood was a little overcooked, but they still tasted great, and it's bound to differ from Chef to Chef, so no big deal. The host told us to move closer together as it is going to get busy. I looked around the restaurant. There was one other table. Again, it was 4:15pm. Ordered, rice is an extra cost. However we were served soup and edamame right away. Nice touch. The waitress came over and took away the 4 other plates for the other patrons who "may" have been sat with us. We then took that as invitation to remove a chair and spread out. Which is what we wanted to do to begin with. Didn't make sense for 6 of us to be squished at one half of the table ‍ I ordered vegetable tempura as an appetizer. It was not good. The vegetables were cut super thick, the batter was super thick. I ate 3 out of the 8 pieces and passed it for everyone else to try. They all agreed we've had better at every other hibachi place ever. The hibachi chef was good. The food however was not seasoned well. It was missing something. I kept dipping my steak in the sauce accompaniment. Portion sizes were very big. The hibachi vegetables were cut super large. I hadn't been to Sogo in ages and decided to change that for a hibachi fix. We started with coconut shrimp which was so good, but starters really aren't necessary because they give you SO much food (we hadn't eaten all day and couldn't wait for our meal, ha). Otherwise, the hibachi meal included soup and edamame to start. Our chef was entertaining and cooked up a delicious meal! I opted for shrimp and scallops, and my husband ordered steak. Noodles and vegetables are included, but fried rice is extra (don't pass on it, though- it's so good). The hibachi area is very family friendly, and a great place to celebrate a birthday. They have valet service which is super helpful, because the parking lot is small and fills up quickly. I'd recommend arriving in advance of your reservation time, as there was a line of cars pulling into the parking lot just to hand them off to the valet. The best hibachi spot around!!! From the ambiance to the people, to the staff and the FOOD...this is by far the place to be for a dining experience. My son went here with his friends for a graduation party and wanted to come back ever since that day and let me tell you it was well worth the trip. Oh man... To say I'm disappointed, is a disappointment. Food was excellent. The ambiance was beautiful, was especially excited to try come back in the summer. The drinks were great too. But here was my issue. Our chef was absolutely horrible. Started off great.. till it came to the food. I stated to him, my partner next to me only asked for onions he said okay. Then proceeded to say only a few onions and give him 3 pieces. He said to talk to our server for extra onions. But I specifically told him that he only ate onions. He then, started putting a bunch of the other veggies on his plate, after he knows he doesn't eat them. I had to pick them off his plate. He then gave me a few vegetables while giving the family next to me a STACK. I wish I took a picture of it. It was horrible. I've never been to a hibachi place that gave THIS little. I saw someone else with a HUGE stack of food on the opposite side of the restaurant and I was excited just to be in complete disbelief. NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!! Spending over $100 for this?! CONS: The chef messed up with flipping the utensils multiple times and scared me half to death cause one mistake and I'll be hurt. We have been wanting to try Sogo, and decided to grab it for takeout tonight. I was very impressed with the packaging and how it was carefully all put together. The edamame and sushi was fantastic. I love how I had the option to leave the cucumber out of my rolls. My husband enjoyed his and I love that they had king crab. I don't know if hibachi for takeout just doesn't work, but my husband got the chicken hibachi and it was odd tasting and extremely dry. The noodles and rice and veggies all tasted really odd as well. Maybe it would be better dining in but maybe they just do better with sushi. The egg roll and dumplings were also great. Kenko and Sakura are my favorites for sushi and hibachi but I would try Sogo again. read more

First off, I'd like to state that I have a chronic illness that causes me to get sick and faint when I get overheated. It does get hot in the restaurant very quickly, and for some reason, it never happened to me before, I felt sick and felt as though I was going to faint. I stepped outside to cool off and get some air and our waiter checked in with me multiple times to make sure I was ok and even brought me cold water which was so sweet. He went out of his way and busy schedule to do this and it was the kindest thing ever. The staff here has always been kind, helpful, quick and friendly. It's a beautiful restaurant with amazing decorations and a calming environment. The food has always been amazing and I don't have a single bad thing to say. Went for my son's birthday yesterday and had an overall terrible experience. Our original reservation was for 7 people. We added to it and made it 13 people. I confirmed this TWO SEPARATE TIMES over the phone. However, when we got there at 6pm, they told us they had us down for 7 people but that nothing was ready yet. We waited 50 minutes before we were seated. The entire floor was super slippery and greasy, it was loud and insanely bright, and you couldn't move in the restaurant without bumping into people. We finally sat and then proceeded to wait another 45 minutes for a chef. My son went to the bathroom and our chef was in there and came out with dripping wet hands and proceeded to start cooking our food with wet hands. Our chef was not entertaining at all and did the bare minimum, Which was fine because by that time we just wanted to eat since we were all starving. The soup was good, but the chicken was extremely dry and overcooked. Next time we will be going back to Mt. Fuji. read more

I have enjoyed Sogo over the years and I am glad they survived 2020 and the nightmare it was. It was hit and miss for a few years before 2020 but I think they are back to pre 2019 form. I always start with the tuna dumpling, unique and delicious! The sushi is always fresh and tasty. I also had a refreshing glass of Sauvignon Blanc that was the perfect touch. I can't believe I never Yelped this place. I've ben here a numb of times over the years, but most recently we went here as a family for my 50th. Unfortunately I have to give this place mixed reviews. This latest time there were only four of us at our table, which was odd, but maybe they wanted to get us through quickly (at least it seemed that way). Wifey and I ordered some sushi appetizers and a beer and hot sake. Our soup and edamame came out first and...meh. Soup tasted like chicken broth when I expected miso and the edamame was good, but over salted. The sushi, however, was excellent...fresh, tasty and large slices. Dinner itself was again, just ok. Our chef seemed to blow through the 'show' with little flair. Sogo serves noodles with the meal instead of fried rice...so the fried rice is extra. I ordered the filet and scallops and the rest of the table had chicken and shrimp (2) and a steak and chicken. Every other hibachi place I've been I've always gotten the meal as rice (or noodles), veggies, seafood, then the beef or chicken. Here the order was just odd. Rice, beef cooked a little too long IMHO), noodles, scallops, then veggies. The food tasted fine (though I wasn't a fan of the noodles), but it was done so quickly that the meal itself was rushed and not a lot of fun. They didn't know it was my birthday, and it shouldn't have mattered, but as it was clear they didn't want us to linger we left quickly...to a lobby full of people waiting for our table. I got the chicken hibachi and it tasted like soil but the sexiest most fertile soil of all time. Noodles got freaky asl in my mouth, no kizzy no cap. Went for a friends birthday, our waiter was so rude to us. The service was not good and we were treated very disrespectfully!

Last night I went here for dinner with my husband and his family. As we were sitting at our table, a piece from the above vent (this was for hibachi) fell off and smacked me in the head. My two year old nephew was sitting right next to me, thank god it was me and not him. The waitress immediately got the manager who seemed to careless about the situation. All he said was "I'm sorry...I can take your name and number if you decide to see a doctor". I was truly stunned at how care free this man was. A piece from the vent just fell from the ceiling and hit a customer in the head...with clear markings to prove it and he could seriously care less about it. I told him the least he could do was compensate for it on the bill. He said he would "take care of us". The bill came and there was no compensation. We asked the waitress to remind him of his words. The bill came back and this man thought 15% off would take care of things. Truly comical. When we left I told him that 15% off is embarrassing on his part and reminded him that at now point did he ever come back over later in the dinner to how I was feeling. He offered a $50 gift card to basically make me go away. He also claimed that he didn't have the ability to take anymore off the bill even tho he's the MANAGER. If you decide to go there, check the vents above your head for any strange parts that might fall from the sky. read more
