On this little getaway while staying at the nearby Ramada, we decided to try out one of our favorite meals hibachi! We have been to many hibachis and thought it would be the same everywhere. And boy were we wrong. The staff and service were perfect they were very attentive. We ordered the chicken and shrimp hibachi. From other spots I've been to they usually give the clear soup and the salad with the wonderful carrot ginger dressing but for whatever reason this spot only gives soup. As for the hibachi chef he was very dull. Did not keep the table lively at all. Usually we get food thrown in our mouths or a sake stream to keep up with but none of that happened. I will say it was me and my partner and a man and his younger daughter so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since it was not exactly appropriate for the child. But otherwise it was just someone cooking in front of us. No show. As for the food it was quite bland. As you can see in the picture the noodles and rice barely have any color. The service was great. This is more known for their hibachi but this review is solely about their sushi. Their sushi is really lacking. I was unimpressed. Edamame was fine. Had hibachi here last night upon a recommendation from a friend who goes here all the time. Upon leaving the restaurant, I immediately texted her and thanked her because everything was amazing. First off, everyone working was pleasant and observant. Our waiter brought kid chopsticks after seeing my daughter trying to use the regular ones. They also brought a bowl of ice for her to add to her soup since it was hot. Excellent service! We had edamame (crisp and tasty), an Alaska roll (yum) and a shrimp tempura roll (perfect!) to start. For hibachi, the meals came with rice, noodles, veggies and meat. Everything was cooked well and tasted delicious. We just ate our leftovers for lunch and they are still good. Consistently perfect no-frills spot for fresh filets and seafood. Hibachi always done right with considerably large portions for the price. Very fresh sushi bar with all the classics for very reasonable prices. Impeccable service and care, even when very busy. Good but not perfect. I got a tasty cocktail to start then had your average clear soup. Then on to the main event. Every chef is different and I've been to these kinds of places enough that I don't need a big show. Our chef was jovial and had a couple fun tricks but not as much as usual. He skipped my 2 favorites, tossing vegetables into our mouths and streams of sake but overall was good. The proteins we had were cooked and seasoned well but the noodles, rice, and veggies could have used a little more. It's a nice clean location with an excellent service staff. It's always fun to watch people cook in front of you. When the hibachi was finished being prepared and the fire from the onion volcano had died down, I had fried rice, noodles and sautéed mixed vegetables in front of me to enjoy. I'm a huge vegetables fan (when done right), and this was an awesome follow-up to the spicy tuna rolls I had as an appetizer! From the few bites I stole off of my friends' plates, Sakura Hibachi and Sushi's chicken and skirt steak were super tasty too. As a vegetarian i'm not a huge fan of hibachi just because they cook the meat in front of you and touch everything, it's just not for me. However, i ordered a sweet potato roll and vegetable hibachi and the waitress asked if I was vegetarian and most places don't ever care to do that. They brought me a separate vegetarian soup and waited to cook the meat until after all else was served which I was thrilled for (sorry for everyone who had to wait though)! They even asked to make sure I was okay with eggs! On that note it was super vegetarian friendly which made for a great experience, the food was just kind of mid though. If you are gluten free bring your own soy sauce and they will cook your stuff in the back (if cross contamination is a worry for you) if not, they will cook yours first with your soy sauce. I have enjoyed this restaurant since they first opened around 1999. My family lived in Lake Hiawatha and went here pretty much once a week. This was our go to special occasion restaurant, ie birthdays, graduation etc. when i got divorced my visits were less often. I was there for my birthday in April 2022 after a 2 year absence due to covid! Still love this place! Service was very good and food awesome! I highly recommend and cant wait till i can go again! We celebrated my nephews birthday here last weekend and the food was tasty and delicious however the alcohol beverages were gross we ordered the long Island ice teas and they were all soda no alcohol we sent them back to be remade and they just dumped out some of the drink and added more soda which was really sad. We ended up just sending them back completely and drinking water. The entrees were great the chef was entertaining. All of the staff wore masks and obeyed covid protocols which was nice. This hibachi spot isn't the best but I guess it gets the job done. My boyfriend loves hibachi and this is the closest spot to him so we frequent this place pretty often. We ordered the Alaska roll which we enjoyed. Then we both got the chicken hibachi which came with onion soup, fried rice, noodles, fried vegetables, and chicken. There was a lot of food for the price and it came out pretty quick. The soup and fried vegetables were good. The fried rice was good but it needed more spice and the chicken was definitely over cooked. The hibachi comes with two sauces: mustard (white) and ginger (brown). I ordered the ginger sauce which I liked but didn't find myself dipping into a lot and the mustard was just too sour for me. It tasted more like horseradish to me. The serving sizes are HUGE and we brought home a ton of food. We shared dumplings, egg rolls and a sushi as starters which were fine. But, I have to say that the food was just okay. I chose shrimp as the protein for my hibachi and it was definitely overcooked. The mushroom beef broth was good. The noodles and rice were standard. Not my favorite Hibachi restaurant. The whole experience was a little different from others. Beginning with the chef, he was not as funny or entertaining as I expected. There was no shooting Sake into our mouths, flinging vegetables at us to catch, tossing of an egg, etc. As far as the meal, you are only given the choice of soup. If you want soup, there is an extra fee. Usually both are included. Most places also give you 2 complimentary shrimp with your meal, not here. And the food was pretty bland. No garlic was used and someone actually called the chef out on that and then he added it only to that persons meal. Even the sauces on the side were just different. Now getting into detail, this place was crazy busy, but they were making sure everyone was being taken care of. This was our first time there and we will definitely be back again. If you get takeout Hibachi, you get noodles, rice, vegetables and the protein all for around $26. I mean who wouldn't want that? First time doing hibachi here was so excited. Surprisingly the place isn't that crowded right now. We get our soup and I'm waiting for the salad to come out and it never does. Most places do soup AND salad so i ask the waiter and he tells me you have to order the salad separately. Interesting. I ordered the filet and shrimp. Didn't get any extra shrimp besides what game in the meal which is also weird. Have to say I'm disappointed in the lack of tricks by our chef too. The place opens at 1 pm, which is a little late for "lunch". Made a reservation for 3 people at 1. The doors were locked right up until 1. That's when the owners and staff arrived. The place was freezing cold when we were seated. I couldn't belive no one came earlier to turn on the heat or unlock the doors. One person in our party never got any food. He sat there with his dish empty. The cook never gave him any veggies, a grain of rice or anything! He never even asked what he was getting to eat. So when he started cleaning the grill, we said what about his meal (we weren't going to start to eat without him)? That's the 1st time the cook addresses the customer. Stopped in here 2 weeks ago for a random date night. We were asked to wait, as we wanted hibachi and I understand that it's silly to waste one of those giant tables on just two people. There was another couple, much younger and looked like they were on drugs and struggling to stay upright, sitting nearby waiting as well. After only about 5 minutes, the 4 of us were seated at a hibachi table in the back, thankfully at opposite ends of the table. This review isn't about them, though I should probably make a blog post or something because wow what an... interesting experience! Our orders were taken and the staff very pleasant and attentive, our waters were never empty. Appetizers and drinks came out quickly and were amazing. They tasted even better than they looked, and they looked pretty good. We ordered Beef Nagimaki and Spicy Kani Salad to start, and we both ordered the chicken hibachi which comes with vegetables, rice, and udon noodles. (Photos added) Our chef was very friendly and tried to engage my date and I a bit, but the middle seats of our table were empty and the other end of the table completely ignored him so we kind of missed out on some of the better entertainment that comes with hibachi but that isn't the fault of the restaurant at all. I'll have to return soon so I can have the full experience! I really do have to emphasize how delicious the food was, it was much better than I had expected (the 2 restaurants we tried before this were packed with over an hour wait and I was cranky and starving).
