I came here once back in 2015, not long after they opened, but honestly didn't love the haircut I got at the time. Fast forward to now--my regular stylist at another salon moved off island, so I decided to give this place another try. The price was reasonable, it was super easy to book online, and the stylist who did my hair years ago wasn't there anymore. My appointment was first thing in the morning, which was great because there was no wait. Chico was assigned to do my hair, and she took the time to ask what I wanted, my preferences, and how I usually take care of my hair. I really liked her thoughtful and careful approach. After a gentle shampoo, she cut, blow-dried, and curled my hair outward--it turned out beautifully! The length was exactly what I asked for, and the soft curls were the cherry on top. I've been going to Soho Hair Salon for almost 10 years. You can make appointment online. Parking is at the back side of the hotel and the salon will validate it. The interior is very clean with nice music. Staffs are very friendly as well. Azuma-san is my top favorite hair stylist. He's very acknowledged on different types of hairstyles. I was able to get an appointment pretty easily because they have plenty stylist who are skilled. Hard to understand because they're primarily Japanese speaking, so the accent is hard to hear through. But they're super patient and nice!! I sat down, told them what I wanted (Japanese Hair Straightening) and they did the usual + offers. But I didn't need anything else. They ran an anniversary special when I went so there was also a free cut. But I didn't need that either. I'm not sure how often they have specials, but it's worth to go when they do! Overall love how straight my hair turned out. My friend recommended me, and I recommended another friend to go. Park in the back where it's only $1 per hour, by the pier/public parking. Take the back stairs up to Ilikai, and walk to the front of the lobby. There's a hallway of shops and Soho is in there. Ask for Maru :) but everyone is just as good. read more

I came here to get my haircut yesterday because my normal stylist was out of town. I asked for something very simple which was to cut a few inches off, curtain bangs, and to remove some weight from my hair. It took a while for my hair to get cut, which is great if it turned out good. When my hair was getting blow dryed no heat protectant was put in first which I was skeptical about. Then when I was done I couldn't see the back of my hair until I got home because they didn't give me a mirror to look at the back, it was in a V shape which I didn't want. I just wanted one straight across cut. I paid $45 plus a 15% tip for something that I didn't really want. It was hard to communicate to them what I wanted and I made sure to ask the front desk if they spoke English so they could be able to understand me before I booked. The front desk lady was nice but that's about it. I would recommend paying a little extra to go to a different salon to get the cut you want. They also refused to at least give a bit of a discount for their bad cut.... read more

I've been looking for a hairstylist for a long time. After reading reviews and referrals from friends, I decided to give Soho Salon a try. Like many places in Waikiki, you'll need to pay for parking, but it's a small price to pay for excellent service.There's lots of parking on the street and probably the cheapest too - $1/hour. Ilikai hotel parking is available but it may be more expensive than street parking. My appointment was at 1pm and I arrived 10 minutes early because I read in a review that they give a questionnaire to help the stylist learn about your hair. The questionnaire is very simple and straightforward. Japanese is spoken at this salon but their English is excellent. The salon was busy today. I had emails to answer so it wasn't a big deal for me to wait. I was greeted by Shiro and he asked how I wanted my hair and suggested that I do highlights instead of one color. I am so glad he did that!! Shiro dry cut my hair and I'm so glad he did. He also colored my hair - ash brown was the color we decided on ($68). Shiro also suggested that I have the Inphenom Treatment (I hope I spelt that correct) and that is $48. It was very refreshing and relaxing. A woman took me to shampoo my hair and began my treatment. A few minutes into the treatment, Azuma came and completed it. He, then, guided me back to my seat and began to blow dry my hair. Azuma had to finish another client so Minami finished my hair. I think it's so awesome that the hairstylist came come together and help each other out. That's a rare thing to see. At the end, Shiro came back and checked in with me. He also apologized with the salon being busy. I really appreciated it. I am so happy with my new haircut and it's SO much cooler. Lol. W(hair) is the best place on the island to do your hair? THIS PLACE. My last appointment here was in 2017, back during my UHM days. Mānoa's not too far from Waikiki, so the drive over to get an extreme makeover was great. Parking at the small boat harbor behind the Ilikai and adjacent to the Rainbow Tower lagoon of the Hilton Hawaiian was easy to find on a sunny weekday, and at just $1 per hour, it's a bargain. Shiro Kyan (aka Kyan) was able to accommodate my hair desires but also gently gave me input on what would look best. And his recommendations didn't fail- I came out looking great, and unexpectedly pampered to the max with free iced tea and a head massage as I was getting my hair washed. A few years and decent hair appointments later, I ended up back here. I reasoned with myself that a trek from my hometown would be worth it-- especially if I knew that my hair would end up being worth a couple hundred bucks or slightly less. And it was the same amazing experience that I had remembered! Everything to a tee. Plus, I was running late to my appointment and because I had notified them in advance via phone, no late fees were charged! And the total for a haircut + full hair color + treatment + top-notch service? Slightly more than $170. Amazing deal. For as long as I'm living on O'ahu, it's Kyan and only Kyan that makes the cut when it comes to my hair. read more

I'm a grandma, but I don't need to look like one. So I came in here for a root color, and I had the best care. The colorist explained each step of the process, and then when my hair was ready to be rinsed, I was given THE BEST scalp massage in my life!! The stylist (different person) then used 2 hair dryers at the same time to dry long my hair quickly. My hair was super soft and shiny. I honestly wished that I knew Japanese so that I could say more than just "arigato gozaimasu". The colorist was excellent and the stylist too. read more

I'm surprised that the majority of the ​Yelp reviews for Soho are happy with color services but not hair cuts! My experience was the ​exact opposite. I went to Soho for hair cuts and simple highlights for the past three years. I was always satisfied with their haircuts and recommended Soho to all of my friends and family. Soho's service is prompt, ​and they have friendly staff. Soho's prices are very affordable. They stick to the agreed cost mentioned at the start of your appointment. In my experience, prices may vary​ on the rarest occasion but generally for a discount. (Disclaimer, not always accurate.) The service I requested at my last visit to Soho was an ombré/balayage. I showed the stylist example photos, and the results were NOT nearly close to it! I was not happy with the results and paid over ​$250+ for the service. (Balayage services usually are​ quite pricey. However, this was not a balayage service-- more of a blunt ombre with chunky halo highlights. NOT A FAN.) My appointment, for this Yelp review, took place in February of 2019​. I didn't feel comfortable writing a negative review of​ my experience. However, this is what took place and I hope no one else​ goes through this disappointing "balayage" experience​ as well. Off of this experience alone, I would've rated it with one star. However, the staff is kind and has produced great results in my past experience. I'm quite sad to publish such a low review. I've been to numerous hair salons from j salon, salon blanc, terra, and so on... but I believe I finally found the hair salon for me! Soho is moderately priced and provides such good service. They make you feel relaxed and don't really push extra products that you don't really need. The salon is located at the ilikai hotel so parking may be a little rough around the edges. They have metered stalls in the back of ilikai but normally it's full. I was lucky enough at one point cause I worked at the Hilton next door. So this salon was just a few feet away from my office. Now I'm stationed somewhere else and I don't have that luxury, so I'm off to finding street parking like everyone else. I go to azuma now. He's always nice. I always do the same cut always. Sometimes adding a little extra. They also do air wave perms which is neat. Just beware it takes a really long time!! The last time I did it I luckily made it just in time for dinner. I wish they disclose that ahead of time. It actually worked really well and lasted a while - longer than my digital perm that only lasted less than a week. My hair is just too straight! The pricing here is really good too. If you request a specific person it's an additional 10$ but even with that it's not that bad either. I used to spend way more at terra and so this is such a bargain! The only downside is the location! It seems like they cater to mostly Japanese clients there's not too many locals that come in here. Or from what I've seen anyway. But I enjoy Japanese salons and don't mind that they have a language barrier as long as my hair is done good. read more

Got a haircut with Mio Hanawa. She replicated the exact haircut I wanted perfectly! She is a very good listener and was thorough in confirming what it is I wanted and how she would go about achieving the look for me. I am very happy with the results! The salon is following very safe covid procedures. Upon arrival they check your temperature, have you sanitize your hands, fill out a waiver, and show your negative covid results for travel safe if you travelled recently. This all happens outside of the salon before entering. I appreciate the establishment for taking procedures seriously. They also collect information for contact tracing. read more

I've been going to the same lady to cut my hair since I was a baby! Recently, she retired and moved to Korea so I've been on the hunt for a good salon to cut my hair. I couldn't find a salon that would take my indecisive, make a reservation at the last minute self so I ended up cutting MY OWN HAIR and hating it. I ended up finding this place on Yelp and called for a next day reservation! Praise the heavens! They make you sign out a sheet if you are a first time customer. I giggled to myself at the choices given, I think it was a question on how you wanted your hair to look? Can't quite remember but I do remember thinking it was an entertaining way to past the time. I noticed that a couple of the staff do not speak English very well, but there are also a handful of staff that can, so I wouldn't say it's a big deal. Azuma cut my hair and he was so friendly and personable! I love how he made sure I was satisfied with the cut. This is my third visit to Soho Hair Salon. I get my hair done by Shiro each time, he is absolutely amazing and really pays attention to detail. Before we begin each session, he makes sure what it is exactly that I want and how much I'll be paying at the end and I like that. This time, I wanted to experiment with a much bolder hair color than I'm used to, and he really took the time to go over the process and the time it'll take, as well as providing his own recommendations. I love this salon but I hate my haircut. I'm so sorry, I don't like to write negative reviews because I don't want to cost anyone business. My stylist didn't really cut my hair, he just used thinning shears all around my head and of course it is uneven and frizzy. I went back to get it fixed and he was very polite and kind. He attempted to fix it but one side still flips out. The damage was already done. When I told him this he told me to blow dry it. I will need to get it professionally cut by someone else.
