Top notch, legit baklava here! Purchased 4 pieces of walnut baklava on Friday night at the Monrovia street fair for only a mere $5 (2 pieces for $2.50 if you would like to purchase less). We were given a sample each of their creme filled baklava but my husband wanted to purchase their walnut filling to take home. This little vendor also had a few other different pastries that I did not know the name of but would probably try one the next time we come (most likely next week, since we live so close). For now, this vendor only sells on line and at the Monrovia street fair only. They do not have a store but the owner told me that as their business grows, they hope to expand to something a bit bigger (yay go small business owner). Just to let you know that I finished the last piece of the baklava today and it still tasted just as good as it did on Friday, so don't worry about finishing it right away if you decide to purchase a larger order. I have had Konafa before from The Original Konafa. I came here last week looking for them but unfortunately I couldn't find them or they weren't there. However, as I walked around I spotted this place and they sold Konafas and Baklavas. The Konafas were $3 a piece or 2 for $5. I don't quite remember how much they were at The Original Konafa but my guess its that its similar pricing. Konafa was good. Crisp and sweet on the outside and soft on the inside. However, this one wasn't as heavenly as The Original Konafa. Definitely satisfied my cravings though! read more

I was so excited that I found a place that sells Middle Eastern sweets. I am craving it beyond belief! From looking at the pictures, this place looks amazing. The only thing is they have a Google phone number so you cannot even reach them, you have to say your name and if they feel like answering they will answer. Also, I asked the gentleman who answered if I can come and pick up some sweets today and he said I have to give him two days in advance. I thought this was a place where you can come in and order whatever you would like just like a regular bakery that day. I guess it's not at all. Too bad,. I have never ever in my entire life had something as delicate flaky sweet and crunchy as your pastries. I know if I show up you know its me. That asian guy who comes and buys a whole tray plus 2 small combo boxes to take home. Literally I can devour all of it within 3 days ALL to myself. People if youre looking for really really really really good middle eastern pastries screw everyone else. I recommend trying Sokar's out you will not be let down. They are literally the only place where it doesnt have this overwhelming floral taste. The pastries do not even let up while sitting in my fridge or counter for 3 days. I had "The Original Konafa" many years ago and it was the best dessert I had ever tasted. For whatever reason the lady that would sell it disappeared and she left a hole in my life. I tried different Konafas and it was never as good. My boyfriend even tried making it about 3 times with different recipes and it was never as good. A few weeks ago I found Sokar Pastry on yelp and I am so glad that I decided to call. The transaction was a bit weird because yelp took me to San Dimas, but there was no real address. I ended up calling and placed an order for a medium Konafa platter. The owner, Hany, was very nice and allowed us to place a last minute order. We went to pick it up in Chino and the whole thing felt like a back alley transaction but it was worth it! The best legal drug I have ever purchased. MUST try in order to understand the following: We can't get enough of this place! I have tried kunufa from different bakeries, even from homemade recipes and yet I can't find one that has the same balance as Sokar's recipe with the right amount of crisp on the outside and soft delicious inside. The syrup, which is usually were I find the biggest flaw in others is perfectly balanced. We usually make sure to stop by the Monrovia street fair every week just so that we can get a couple of pieces for after dinner.
