The food was not good. The Caribbean chicken was terrible. The sauce on the chicken was to sweet and the chicken was stringy and had a funny taste to it. The rice and vegetables were also cooked sub-par. I also got the seafood Mac and cheese and I was VERY unimpressed. They came out with a mountain of Parmesan cheese to compensate for the lack of seafood. There was almost no seafood in it. Once you got it the cheese would melt and become hard and brittle and it ruined the Mac and cheese. Even the Caesar salad was bad, how do you mess up a salad!? No other table available even though folks in front of us had no reservations and got a better table although I'm not sure we would have been much different. No service. This restaurant was very good. The food was brought out very quickly and drinks were delicious. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. Our waitress checked on us frequently and made sure that everything was satisfactory. The music was poppin and lively. I was excited to check out the new resort in Key Largo so we decided to have lunch at Sol. I will say that the Playa Largo resort is indeed beautiful and the restaurant Sol is equally as stunning. It is located right on the water with an incredibly styled interior that belongs in a magazine. Unfortunately the service here is incredibly lacking. The restaurant was about 1/4 full for lunch but it appeared as if there was only one waitress in the entire place. It took about 20 minutes before we were even offered any water. By the time the food came out it was probably close to an hour. The food itself wasn't bad, but the time it took to come out was ridiculous. In fact this place was so understaffed that by the time we left there were un-bussed tables everywhere - not a good look. Also if it is hot outside I would NOT recommend coming here as the entire venue is outside with no AC. Even though we were sitting directly under a fan we were still sweating profusely by the time our long lunch ordeal finally ended. I hope they get their service issues sorted as this place definitely has potential. read more

Stayed at the resort for a few days and chose Sol for a dinner option. Very limited menu and some items were not available. I ordered the Tuna, which was an average piece of tuna grilled. My table also ordered the jerk chicken and seafood pasta which no one really enjoyed. Chicken and pasta both bland. There's nothing really good to mention about this place except the staff which does try hard to give good service. So I give 3 stars for that. read more

Sol by the Sea is a fantastic view of the Gulf side of the Keys, it's location is quiet and situated facing the ocean and the resort make it absolutely beautiful view, and the interior is new, contemporary, and very well situated for the 'Keys feel'. All of this makes it a great stop for a drink or an appetizer by water or land. Where it goes down to a 3 star for me is the food itself, while presented well the food is borderline $$$ which I do expect to mean that they take better care on execution. We tried the fish tacos which were dry and did not really offer much in flavor in comparison to other places we went to in the Keys. We had one other seafood dish that was very 3 star I don't even remember what it was, sadly, first time ever for a review. If you are in for the views, definitely go here, but there are definitely better choices in the keys and Key Largo area. read more

Not a good experience here. Location is great because of great views but severely lacking everywhere else. Drinks (mojito) was very bitter. Ordered a med rare steak and got a well done. Sent it back and when the next steak came out it was damn near blue of how undercooked. Didn't send it back just because this obviously wasn't going to be right. Dessert was good but it was cheesecake....pretty simple stuff there. This gets better when they drop the check at the same time of desert and hover over me while trying to enjoy what I would say was the best part of the place. To make it even better, I had yet to be approached by a manager until I'm getting up from my chair only to hear her say I saw the steak you sent back. Sorry it was bad. Meaning she saw the errors and failed to address them. Nor did any part of this check be taken care. Paid for a steak that I didn't eat, a drink I didn't drink. Probably will never come here again. $200+ straight into the garbage. I kinda wish yelp gave me an option for negative stars. So usually I wouldn't eat at a resort restaurant while in the keys BUT it was our first night and we were really enjoying staying at the resort. I double checked the closing time and we headed over! From the moment we got to the top of the stairs it's like we went into slow motion. EVERYTHING WAS SO SLOW. It seemed pretty clear they were annoyed we came in (even though they didn't close for 45 minutes) The menu must of been a bar menu? Even though we weren't at the bar.. there was very little to pick from and it was over priced for sure. I ordered a salad and my boyfriend got a burger with fries. Super small portions for the price and just overall not very good. I really just wanted seafood but that wasn't an option either. Overall it was not a good experience and was pretty dissatisfied with our dinner. Even though we could see it from our porch, a pizza would of been much more enjoyable. read more

Mixed feelings here. Came in around 9:45 since their website advertised it was open until 11 and most other places nearby were closing. Before we even got served they were putting chairs up on tables all around us. Not a very nice atmosphere to eat in. Asked about it and got told they really close at 10. Just awkward all around. Food is pretty good, if expensive for what it is. Presentation was excellent. Relatively small portions on our orders. I'm not sure where the views went. Certainly not much from the dining tables. The bar area does overlook the ocean however. So overall had I come here another time I would have been happy with the food, disappointed with the prices and view. read more

During my stay at Playa Largo, I ate here twice. The decor is awesome with clear views and fresh air! I had a caesar salad as a snack which was good and hit the spot for a mid afternoon break with views on views. I came back for a full meal and between 4 of us we had a varied selection. My tuna poke was delicious, but so were the fries that come with the burgers. We split the key lime bar, which was pushed by the waiter and it was ok. I'd rather have gone to Mrs. Mac's to use those calories. Overall, I would rush back to Sol when in Key Largo. read more

Nice atmosphere for evening dining. Got to watch the sunset and feel the nice breeze. Service was good and our wait staff was attentive and friendly. The one tip that I would pass along is that the Caribbean Jerk Chicken is not jerked chicken. It is legit BBQ chicken, which tasted like it had Heinz bbq sauce dumped on it. I asked about it and they said that is how they make it. They offered me something else, which was kind, but it wasn't bad, so I ate it. It really just was not what I expected. The we put our name down to dine at 7:30pm for a party of 4 staying at the hotel on Sunday evening. The hostess quoted a 20-30 minute wait which we were more than happy to do. Once 40 minutes rolled around with no update, we went back inside to ask how much longer. We waited over 10 minutes standing at the hostess stand just waiting to be noticed before somebody came over. They then asked for our party to split up into 2 parties of 2. This was an hour after we put our name down for a reservation of 4 we were told they could accommodate. Meanwhile, while we were waiting to be sat, the hostess sat TWO parties of TWO at available 4-tops!!! Then asked for us to split up . Im sorry but where is the logic there? We opted out of splitting out party up and waited some time longer. We would have left and gone elsewhere but at this point it was nearly 9pm and every other restaurant in the keys we're closing or closed. They finally seated & our server who came by 3 times total, once to bring water and take the order and another time to drop off our food without checking in afterwards. By the time we were served it was 930pm. Everything came out cold. Fish tacos were cold and underwhelming. My boyfriends buffalo chicken sandwich was good and our friend got the Swordfish on special which he said was good. I would not go back though after the very poor and awkward service. Sol by the Sea sets the new standard for Upper Keys resorts dining & drinking. My friends and I visited the resort for sunset, drinks and dinner. We didn't know which of the Playa Largo resort's restaurants/bars we wanted to try. Concierge Dave suggested Sol by the Sea and even offered to walk us there. We were absolutely wowed by the location, on a second story and direct on the bay. The staff welcomed us and we chose to sit at the bar. The designer cocktails were made right in front of us. They looked as good as they tasted! There was live music as well. We snacked on an appetizer and had a second round of drink, enjoying the vibe. This will be our new go-to spot for sunset! My friend and I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was inedible, so tough, we had to send it back. This place needs to work on their service, both for drinks and food. Just had the best meal in the Keys. Logan was our server and she was amazing and made our experience so great. Had the Citrus Hummus as an appetizer. Playa seafood pasta was so good. Wow what a terrible experience!!! Took my wife for Valentine's Day dinner and paid an extra $169, for a table on the water. The view was beautiful but table did not even have table cloths, waited over 15 minutes for someone to get our drink orders. After that we ordered from a limited menu, the food came out we had no utensils the waiter said he would bring them right away after 10 minutes we had to ask someone else and they brought us our utensils. The food was cold of course. My wife ordered a steak medium well it came out raw. Waiting for the waiter to come so they could cook it and he never came back. Had to ask someone else to help and he said they could not do medium well and our waiter should have told us. He comp us an extra lobster tail. Then after dinner I was so ready to go asked for the bill and had to wait another 20 minutes for the guy to bring it to me. Worst $450 dinner I've ever had!!!' read more

Hmm... We are staying here at the hotel so I really want to love this place. Extra stars for the location (on the beach) and the staff- very attentive and quick to remedy any complaints. Drawbacks: the menu could be printed on the palm of your hand. Exactly three choices for each section of the menu. What happened??? Last year when we were here there was a reasonable selection of items. When you're dropping $150 easy for two people at dinner or would be nice to have a better selection and feel great about wanting to come back. Tonight I had to order extra veggies after my dish came- the 'veggie pasta' and although the sauce and shrimp were good I just kinda feel like it was a step above an airport restaurant and definitely not worth the hefty price tag. And there's nothing else on the menu I'm interested to try so I guess we won't be back. read more

We ate dinner at Sol because we were staying at Playa Largo. The views of the sunset were spectacular! Really, Sol has to have one of the best views of the sunset in Key Largo. Anyway, we ordered the tuna poke for appetizer. At first, it seemed like a small portion because it only brought 3 plantains (needs to have more!) but it brought plenty of tuna. We asked for a side of soy sauce, poured it over, and it tasted better. I ordered the seafood paella & my hubby ordered the churrasco. My plate wasn't anything out of this world but it did bring plenty of seafood..and it was FRESH, which is always important to me! The churrasco was very tasty, as were the "yuca" fries (tasted more like boniato though). We had the "key lime pie" for dessert. However, it was not a pie at all & it was just OKAY. I've had better in the keys. Service was slow but I didn't complain because the view & vibe was great. read more
