David Spanier was our sales rep from Solar Source and he did an amazing job of explaining everything perfectly and putting our minds at ease about what to expect from Solar Source and how they stand by their product and installation team. We had concerns about mounting the pool heating system on our brand new roof but David assured us that everything would be fine. Nearly a year later we could not be happier. We have had no issues with roof leaks or anything as far as the system or workmanship goes. Today, Sep 24, 2022 would normally be a day when our pool is just a little bit chilly for swimming as we have a screened in pool area and our pool doesn't stay as warm as we would prefer but today, with a temperature of 89 on our shaded lanai area the pool is 87.6 degrees and super cozy!!! It first started with the quote to R&R the pool panels for my new roof. They originally quoted over $3200 to R&R 6 panels. Panels that they sold me in 2021 for $3600.00!!!! Installed!!! After I reminded them they installed them at the price they installed them for they came down to $2500 which is still high. The tech turned my yandy valve in the wrong direction starving my new (3 month old) Hayward pump causing damage to my pump then denied doing it. He blames the roofers, the roofers blame the solar guy and I get stuck trying to figure out how to get this warranted without getting screwed. If you hire these guys, put a camara on the crew at all times and set up camp to observe everything they do. The design is good. The people , not so much. I'm sure they are not all bad but I got the bad one. In todays world with people in the working field who don't give a crap if they do a good job or not, be careful who you hire. Our system wasn't working well. Solar source said we needed 4 new replacement panels. We had them replace the panels. Our solar output immediately dropped by 25% AFTER their supposed fix. They said it just so happened that we needed 9 more panels that went bad at the same time the others were fixed. When the installers got here they said we actually needed 12 panels. They showed us "hot spots" on pictures they took. We had another solar company come out. They said panels almost never go bad. They found our wires were being eaten by squirrels. They fixed the wires and installed a squirrel guard. Solar Ray got our system back in tip top shape. Solar Source ripped us off for $2000. We asked for the manager to call us. He never did. We made the epic mistake of purchasing a system from Superior Solar a few years ago, which now seems to be Solar Source. We've had non-stop issues with squirrels chewing lines, which is not covered and when we called to inquire we were told "Oh yeah, that happens all the time." Had we been told that up front we likely would have taken a different route. The PVC pipe also burst, and again, was not covered under warranty. Of course the service calls to come out and look at these items were also not covered under warranty, meaning we've had to add insult to injury by paying to be told items are not covered under warranty (which honestly doesn't seem to cover a single item). We just found out that the install also went through the roof with no sealing around it, causing us nearly $3,000 in roof damage/repair. At this point we are considering just ripping out the entire system as it has cost us nearly as much in repairs as we paid for the original system. read more

Let me start by saying that when this company was Superior Solar, they were fantastic -- professional, responsive, and fairly priced. Since being taken over and rebranded as Solar Source, the quality and customer service have absolutely fallen off a cliff. I'm a licensed plumbing contractor, so I know what reasonable service pricing looks like. A technician from Solar Source came out two weeks ago and quoted me over $1,000 for a repair. After pushing back and negotiating with Ryan (the manager), they reduced it to $755 -- still high, but at least within the realm of reasonable. I scheduled the repair for the following week. Ryan called to cancel last minute, saying his truck broke down. I understand -- things happen. But I explained I had a gutter company scheduled the following day and would need to cancel them because of this. Ryan showed zero concern. Not even a simple, "Sorry for the inconvenience." I rescheduled the repair for that Friday, with an 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM window. That time came and went -- no call, no show. Around 2:00 PM, I reached out. After waiting another 30-40 minutes, I finally got a text message (not even a call) from Ryan saying, "Oh sorry, your guy should be there around 4-ish." By that point, I had already wasted two full days, and I told Ryan I would not be waiting around anymore. When he asked if I wanted to reschedule again, I told him flat-out: Absolutely not. I'll find another company. And I did. That same afternoon, I looked up AllSolar Energy in Sanford, Florida. Within minutes, they answered the phone, were polite, and got me scheduled for Monday -- the next business day. The technician showed up on time, called ahead just like he said he would, and finished the repair within an hour -- no second visits, no excuses, no overcharging. And guess what? He did it for $100 LESS than Solar Source's discounted quote. Bottom line: Do yourself a favor and steer clear of Solar Source. They are overpriced, unreliable, and completely indifferent to your time or schedule. The new ownership has clearly destroyed whatever reputation Superior Solar had built. Price gouging the customer on materials charges Did they just misplace a decimal point on the materials charges? I find it hard to believe that I was charged almost $ 120.00 for less than $10.00 in parts. And that's at retail cost. the company probably only pays half of that on the wholesale market. The crew that came out was very efficient and very friendly. They were here and finished within about 30 minutes. They did a good job. The billing on the other hand is ridiculous. I understand that they are a business and need to make a profit. But the I feel that the $169.00 labor charge for 30 minutes work, leaves plenty of profit without the ridiculous overcharge for the material. I have spoken very highly of the company when asked about our system, in the past. But I'm afraid after this service call and the outrageous charges that will not be happening any more. ***PERHAPS THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET THEIR ATTENTION*** Hired them to remove and then reinstall existing solar panels for residential roof replacement. The removal was handled flawlessly. I called them back on a Friday after our roof was replaced. "We'll call you back today or latest Monday with details". Nope. Never called back. So I called a 2nd time on Tuesday. "We'll call you back today or latest tomorrow". I even reiterated that I didn't like having to call back a 2nd time because they didn't follow up. Well...here we are now. I had been communicating with David for a long time to install a solar pool heater. He never came out to the home. He miscalculated money twice and was condescending and unreasonable when shown his mistakes. We were going to install 6 panels and got a quote. He upped the estimate on the Jan 1st. Then when we found 3 used panels so would only need to buy 3 from Superior Solar. He refused to deduct the full amount of 3 panels and tried to add on new installation prices on top of the original estimate- basically charging installation twice. He refused to discuss basic math unless it made the price higher. The rest of the company may be better but I don't trust them because of David and will be finding a different company. read more

I purchased a pool solar system 3 years and 2 months ago. The automatic valve stopped working. I called them and they told me to contact the manufacturer. I did and was told it probably was out of warranty but it didn't matter because Solar Source never registered it. After reviewing my contract I saw I have a 12 year warranty on the system. I called the Largo office told them my issue and was told there was no warranty. I asked for the owner and was hung up on. I then called the corp office and explained the situation. I was told they were transferring me to a director. After 15 minutes on hold I went into a VM box and have not received a call. They sell you a product then ignore their contract then hang up rather then discuss the issue. Beware!!! read more

Solar Source updated our system a few years ago and there has never been a problem. I have had Felix on property a couple of times to adjust the system, replace a sensor on the roof, and give me a tutorial on the control pad. On my last service call, the guys in the office told me how to bypass the automatic temperature control and manually open up the water flow to the panels so that the pool would warm up while a was waiting for the day for my scheduled service call. They patiently walked me through it and told me to feel free to call back if I needed anything. Again, huge props to Felix for his professionalism, knowledge, and explanation of the way the system operates. I am ways get a follow-up text to ask about my satisfaction. Do not use Superior Solar. They are very nice people, but they do not stand behind their product. I had them install a solar hot water heater back in 2009. I thought I was getting a great deal... 10 year warranty and I was set! Everything worked great for about 2 years, then it's been nothing but problems... oh, the panels have a 10 year warranty, but everything else is only for 1 year! That is where Superior Solar makes their money... First, the panels cracked. They tried to blame it on me not draining my system for the one time that it got around freezing (hello, this is Florida). Forget the fact that the salesman assured me that there were not 1, but 2 freeze-prevention mechanisms... a valve on the roof that opens up around 40 degrees to ensure flowing water and also the computer would turn on the pump at 40 degrees to ensure flowing water. Anyway, after filing with better business bureau, they took care of it. After that, it has been one failed system after another. Sometimes, the same thing has failed twice! In fact, I'm writing this because another item has failed and I can't take it anymore... I had to warn others about the materials this company uses... So, from memory, here is a list of problems that I've had to have fixed: 1. pump went bad at about the 5 year mark... 2. roof temperature sensor went bad... was reading over 200 degrees at times... 3. freeze-prevention valve went bad (just starts leaking) 3 times! the last time I just had them cap it because I refused to pay another $200 for a absolutely worthless item, of course, now my warranty is void... so, pay us $200 every few years to replace this crappy freeze-prevention valve, or your warranty is void 4. pressure release valve on the hot water tank has failed 2 times (it slowly leaks), this is the second time now 5. drain valves leaked, I replaced them myself because I can't afford another $200 service call All of this within 8 years of getting the system installed? I'll be calling them tomorrow because now my hot water is just leaking out of the pressure release valve... this is the 2nd valve in 8 years! I'll try to get a complete list of all my past service calls and the costs of my past repairs so people will know what they are in for with Superior Solar... read more

REVIEWED UPDATED 8/17/15 I chose Superior Solar due to friendly staff and being an OUC-recommended contractor. I regret this decision. 5 days after installation the pipe coming from the newly installed tank disconnected and flooded my garage. The Superior Solar installer had mistakenly used two different types of incompatible pipe and hadn't sealed them together correctly, resulting in the break and the flood. The service manager who came to inspect/repair the mistake described it to me as "an amateur mistake". They fixed the mistake and the system has worked fine since. In light of these events I requested a refund of the labor costs, which was denied. UPDATE: After my initial review was posted, Superior Solar's CEO contacted me to discuss the situation. I give him credit for getting involved personally - his concern was genuine and he explained steps they were taking to prevent a similar mistake in the future. Regarding the refund request, he explained that they wanted to avoid getting a reputation for giving refunds any time there was a complaint. In retrospect I find this to be a bit odd considering the "amateur mistake" they made. Several days after that discussion, Superior Solar delivered a "care package" with some chocolates, bath products, and several hundreds of dollars in gift certificates for a restaurant and massages as an "apology for the stress" they had caused. It was a nice gesture, if a little odd. I recommend avoiding Superior Solar based on the experience I had with them. read more

My husband and I installed a new Infinity edge pool on our property in Clermont, Florida. Artesian Pools did the installation and Tony Allo, their designer recommended that we give David Spanier, from Superior Solar a call for the installations of the solar panels on the roof that would be used to heat the spa/hot tub. We interviewed three companies and opted to go with Superior Solar. The sent a representative out to the house to look at the property and evaluate the needs for the number of panels based on the exposure. They completed their estimate very quickly. We set up an appointment and they were here right on schedule. They worked so quietly that you didn't even realize that they were here. All of the work was executed in a very timely fashion, and more importantly it was done well, and they cleaned up completely. When they left, you wouldn't have even known anyone was here. They were timely, efficient and very professional. A few months later we noticed a little water dripping from the roof. We called them to ask what they thought it was, they came right out and corrected a very small leak that had developed. Their customer service is Superior, just like their name. We are in the process of looking into more panels for electrical purposes and our only call will be to Superior Solar. Had these guys install pool solar panels a few years ago and now they sprung a leak. Called for an appointment for a warranty repair, the next appointment was not available for two weeks and was set up for 11:15 am. Technician called and changed the appointment to 1:00PM, where he never called or showed up. I called the office at 4:30 PM, they said that he was running behind and changed the appointment for 3 days later. In the meantime my solar panels have been leaking water for over 2 weeks. Poor customer service, they were on time when they came a picked up the payment, but not for a warranty service call. You be the judge, is this the kind of people you want working for you? read more

We had solar pool heating installed last year along with a new pool filter and variable speed pump. The installation was fantastic. They do excellent work and I enjoyed swimming right up to December with the warmer water and then was able to start again this year in March. We have a bit of a unique shaped pool and I was amazed at how perfectly they cut the solar pool cover that came with the install and which we used in the prime winter months. A week or so ago I noticed some noise in the system which wouldn't go away even when the pool pump was not running. I called for service and the service manager was great. The first thing he told me was to take down his cell number and to save it so I could call him anytime. He had an idea what was wrong and said they would need to get a part so my service was arranged for today (a week from my call). He told my husband what to do in the meantime to stop the noise which was really our main complaint. The system was still heating the pool and the pump and filter worked fine. Today the technician called first thing in the morning and told me when we could expect him. He (Jared) then showed up right on time and replaced the part through warranty service and also did not charge us any fees. This really is an outstanding company who stands behind their products and service. Everyone I have ever dealt with from the first call for an estimate last year until now has been very professional and went 'above and beyond' to ensure we were happy with everything. I originally found them through Angie's List where they are listed as a top performer and they have certainly earned that. Out of 3 different companies, Universal Solar was not only the most affordable but they were also very knowledgeable and very professional. I loved that they were not pushy in trying to sell us their equipment, but instead took their time explaining and answering any questions we had. I totally recommend Universal Solar. I called a couple solar companies to fix my system and Superior Solar was by far the most professional, they showed up on time and only charged me the service fee and a couple bucks for the plugs to fix the leak. This review may be lengthy; however I want to explain why I recommend Superior Solar, my representative, Michael Boykin at Superior Solar, and how our system has been working. We are not rich, we drive older inexpensive cars, we are on a budget, and we are careful to consider purchases. I had been curious about solar for two reasons: it is good for the environment, and I thought if it was done correctly, the correct size, and with the correct bank loan, we could potentially be paying ZERO additional money to buy solar. Fortunately, the Federal Tax Credit of 30% made installing a solar PV system on our home possible with what I was trying to achieve financially. Currently we have had our system long enough that I can compare the data. I have been collecting data from each electric bill we receive and comparing the KWh usage per month with solar power vs. last year's data (without solar). I don't want to disclose my financial details on this review (bank loan APR, total system cost, actual tax credit), but I do want to share that only 6 months of data has shown that I have been paying only $7 per month (actual number): For example, (not actual numbers for privacy): My average savings with solar has been $98 per month and my monthly payment to the bank to pay off the solar has been $105 per month. AND keep in mind, that I OWN the system. Once my loan is paid off, I will not have to pay close to anything for electric! And right now, instead of paying $100 to the electric company I am paying $100 to pay the loan. Almost ZERO additional money to buy Solar. I had worked the numbers and potential savings for months trying to determine if this could be a reality. That is where Superior Solar's unbelievable customer service comes in.... Michael Boykin is who I worked with at Superior Solar. Michael made me feel like I was his only priority. I must have emailed him 1-4 times a day with the most random questions. He promptly and professionally replied to each query. And many times, on the weekends or late at night. He took his time on the phone and on email correspondence to help me understand solar, the costs, benefits, and the science of solar. I highly recommend speaking Michael Boykin at Superior Solar. I never felt pressure from him. Michael knew that the solar system would sell itself, I just had to keep asking the questions and doing the research to convince myself. I honestly kept thinking, "This is too good to be true.... there must be a catch". I decided that the only way to really know for sure was to just do it. And here I am, with all this data now showing me that there is no catch...It was a smart financial decision. As a neat benefit, our system comes with the ability to plug a power chord directly into the inverter when the grid power goes down. Our solar is tied into the main city electric grid. When the grid power went down a couple months ago, I plugged into my system directly and could power our refrigerator and several other appliances...and, I had power to spare. I was in the process of running an extension chord to our neighbor's house to give them power when the grid power finally did come back on. Nobody had to think about trying to dig the gas-powered generator out of the garage, put gas in it, make all that noise.... we just plugged in and were back in business! And we were the heroes of the neighborhood who still had cold sodas and ice! My awful experience with Superior Solar. At first, I decided not to put a review because I don't like to hurt businesses. I understand many workers don't have anything to do with the practice of others. Until I get a call from a collection office because I owe $4K after cancelling out a deal in where you clearly were at fault and caused me to lose the trust on the company. I decided to start the process the first on December 2017. Did a pre-approval for the amount of the whole system plus the installation. Everything was perfect. Passed December, then in mid-January I called the Mr. T (seller) to ask the latest status and asked for a physical paper that clear explain their warranty policies. All Mr. T said was I promise that later today you will get that information and very soon you will get your solar setup. Then days keep passing by and I keep contacting him for status and for a copy of the warranty papers. The pre-approved loan expired so I needed to re-apply again. Mr. T said that he called the lender and that I didn't need to re-apply but at this point after so many broken promises and didn't believe a word of him or the company he represents. Then in April, that is right guys in APRIL 2018. I get a call from Superior Solar to schedule an appt for the installation and I clearly said no thanks don't want them. If you were in my position that you were requesting some simple papers, you are the one doing the follow up calls and the exaggerated long wait. What would you do? We are talking of 10 of thousands not a few 100s. Can't really imagine how bad the service will be after you get paid and all the money is on your pockets. They even tried to buy a good review by offering a cruise trip to me. **That explains all the fake good reviews.** What makes me more furious is that the seller clearly said to me that I won't be responsible of any fee after cancelling the contract that was his fault. But then a collector keeps calling me. This is the best proof of how shady this company works and they can't even back up their own word. Potential future customers beware and don't even consider them. I'm saving you from a stressful experience. Florida has lots of other companies. And for the Superior Solar representative that likes to answer these reviews a few recommendations 1. Back up your word. 2. Hire someone that keep up to date the customers in queue waiting for the installation. 3. Don't lie. Just tell them right away the truth. Back in July 2014 I let David Spanier show me the Heliocol product compared against the others (he has samples of the products for you to see and touch). I could quickly see why the Heliocol product is superior and I was so impressed I bought the solar water heater and the solar fan too. Above and beyond - the simplest words I could use to describe Universal Solar. My fiance and I purchased our home 2 months ago. The home came equipped with a beautiful underground, screened-in pool. But I'm a Florida girl - born and raised - and ultimately could not take the 84 degree water in the middle of July. So, we called a few solar heating companies, some more sketchy than others, and then met Sam Smith at Universal Solar. We were sold immediately. He knew the right product for us, at the right price and seemed overall trustworthy. The installation process with Jason went great; however, we hit a few bumps in the road. Bumps that caused some other bigger issues. Universal Solar and their management team (Richard, etc.) was extremely responsive to the mishaps and immediately (and I do mean immediately) sent their team to correct the issue. Additionally, they threw in a few freebies for us to make us completely satisfied. They really went above and beyond the call of duty. After receiving 3 quotes from different solar heat dealers, I decided to go with the company who sent the guy with the sweetest smile:-) His name is David Spanier. He promised me that the solar addition would absolutely change my life, and it did! We had our pool built last summer, and not once did I swim because it always seemed to have a bit of a chill on it that I just couldn't get past my knees. My kids didn't care about how cold the water was, they just enjoy pools, period. Well this year I decided to take the plunge and have a solar system put in. We couldn't afford to have the optimal amount of panels added at this time so we went with 8 panels instead of the 10 which was advised for our size pool. We do have the option to add the remaining panels at a later date which is a fact that I love, but I don't think we'll be needing them. Its been 2 months now and my pool temperature is constantly hovering anywhere between 88- 95 degrees, and I have been in my pool more times in these 2 months than in the entire year that we've had the pool. The addition of solar heat was the best decision we could have made, making our pool worth so much more to the entire family now! And we still hear from David from time to time just checking in to see if we're still enjoying our solar and to see if we have any questions about anything. Now thats another review for "service after the sale" ;-) Oh, and as for the life changing situation...I've taught myself how to swim !!! Yayyyy. To be clear, I have no issue with the Technician that responded to my service request. The back office administration on the other hand...! When I called to place a service request I was told a credit card would be necessary to create the service ticket but before any charges were applied to my card I would be told what the total charge would be. Keep in mind that this very expensive solar system was installed by this same company so you would think my credibility as a trustworthy customer had already been established. Reluctantly, I provided my CC information. I was then told to expect a call with an approximate time the Technician would arrive. I never received that call. On the scheduled day of service I called the office and requested an ETA. Before the Technician left I asked what the total was and he informed me that someone from the office would be calling me. Four days later I noticed a charge on my CC. I called the office to complain that I had never received the call with the charges nor had I given final approval to apply a charge to my CC. There was a half hearted apology with a promise to e-mail me a receipt. As of this writing; still waiting on the receipt! read more
