If I had written a review when our panels were installed in 2011 I would have said the same as this reviewer "SolarCraft is one of the best run companies I have ever had the pleasure to work with...the project could not have gone more smoothly." A few years later, we had edge guards installed to protect from pigeons roosting. After a small issue was quickly resolved, the manager offered me a free panel cleaning. Fast forward to 2020 when we needed a panel cleaning; the manager had moved on and SolarCraft was no longer doing cleanings. Throughout the process my representative with them, Taylor, was very responsive to all my questions, and helped to quickly resolve the one problem I had with fitting the plug from my EV charger into the box that was installed. SolarCraft is one of the best run companies I have ever had the pleasure with which to deal. Beginning with a $1,000 deposit on August 20, 2021, the project could not have gone more smoothly. I was immediately sent "What to Expect When Going Solar", a step-by-step description of the entire installation and it went exactly as promised. On September 9thI received the final layout of the solar panels. On October 12th, the main electrical panel was upgraded for solar. On November 24th the solar panel installation took place. On December 9th the inspection by the town of Tiburon took place. That day I received the smart phone application that allowed me to watch as the sun gave me electric energy. So cool! I charged my Tesla for free for the first time in my garage. The application shows the total energy created and breaks it down by each solar panel so you can see immediately if there is any issue. There was none. The fine step was the contract between PG&E for "Net Energy Metering", the agreement between the utility and me that they would PAY ME for any excess energy my solar panels produced. That occurred just a few days later. Every step of the way my questions were immediately answered and my concerns (one or two) alleviated. We had Solar Craft install a new solar system last summer, with a Tesla Powerwall battery. It's been fantastic seeing how much solar is now powering our house, *and* knowing we have backup power. We had our first test of it recently during a power outage, and were so pleased that all the systems we'd hoped would be backed up did work, including the refrigerator, router/wifi, two computers and the heating system, as well as the TV and landline phones, overhead lights in a few rooms, and several electrical outlets. It was great to have no major disruption during the outage. (We opted not to get a second Powerwall, which would provide 100% backup for all circuits, given the extra cost and usually short duration of outages.) I am posting this review after becoming disillusioned with this firm. They have no serious customer service philosophy in play and seem to be driven to diminish their unhappy customers with combative unfriendly practices. I had a 28-panel system installed by them some years ago. The install crew initially placed the panels on my roof without consulting their own designer's plans. This meant that 1/3 of the panels were left in shadow. They returned to move the panels eventually. This operation resulted in five holes in my otherwise new roof, because they relocated the arms holding the panels. Of course, they included on their crew a new member who didn't know what they were doing. In the process, they left the roof unsealed and the rains came. My attic and interior ceilings all suffered significant water damage. I refused to pay my contract balance until they fixed my roof and ceilings. What did they do next? Brought in their lawyers. Avoid them or face years of unhappiness. read more

When getting solar for your pool, you will chose based on price and warranty and maybe a feeling you get from the company (and maybe these reviews). What is much harder to know is what happens 2-4 years later when there is a problem. I am writing this review because I am now 4+ years into dealing with Solarcraft and I am very thankful. There has been a few leaks over the 4+ years and for those panels that they installed, they have fixed or replaced them quickly and with zero push back. I had no idea how to go about choosing a Solar company, but luckily I have a close friend who's a professional builder, he knew exactly how to do all the upfront research, he chose 3 companies to bid, he was a tough customer, and to him SolarCraft was the clear winner. Then I watched as his project went off without a hitch, and I simply followed his lead. Sort of like being on a crowded highway, when suddenly an ambulance with sirens blaring flies past you, you get in the lane behind it, and suddenly it's all smooth sailing for you, too. The initial meeting (with SolarCraft's Jon O'Day) went very well, with Jon making it easily understandable (even for me) what I needed--and didn't need--to keep the overall price in line, while delivering the ideal system for our specific needs. And all the way along, both the installation team and the behind-the-scenes office crew were equally professional, and every person I've met there has been a pleasure to work with. I had a photovoltaic solar system installed by SolarCraft in 2003 for roughly $28k. SolarCraft represented that the panels had a 25-year warranty. The deterioration of the panels over the years is expected to be between 0.5-1% each year, so it would be around 15% over the life of my system. However, 1 panel failed completely after just a few years and was replace with a different brand, inferior panel. The system altogether deteriorated by about 70% to date. Since I was under the impression that a warranty existed for 25 years, I approached SolarCraft claiming the 25- year warranty. I was told that the warranty is a "manufacturer warranty" and that it was up to me to claim it with Sharp, the manufacturer of my panels. SolarCraft stated that claiming the warranty is burdensome, costly and time-consuming and they can't do it, unless I paid for many hours of testing and measurements to prove to the manufacturer that the panels had deteriorated beyond a normal expected deterioration of about 15% over 19 years. For me as the client it is obviously impossible to produce such measurements and the cost would have likely been between $1,000 to $2,000 to engage SorarCraft in such an endeavor, without any assurance of a favorable outcome. I had to make a decision to change all of my panels to new panels, for which I had to pay full cost to SolarCraft. They say that they are a contractor, not "an equipment supplier" and their warranty is only on their workmanship. Any warranty claims have to be taken up with the manufacturer. I feel that SolarCraft should inform their customers of this fact when they install systems instead of representing the existence of a system warranty that evidently appears to be impossible to claim. Please be aware that should you have any issues with warranty claims on your installed equipment, you will be on your own when you engage SolarCraft. SolarCraft was awesome. Jenise was so helpful in providing a quote and answering our questions. She really knows her stuff but also helps guide you along the entire process. She even answers emails on vacation! She is super on top of it. The install crew were super professional and did a nice clean job. They were very upfront in asking questions along the way so as to make sure the install went exactly according to plan. Craig was out for the electrical part and he went above and beyond. He needed to shut off power to configure the system in to our electrical panel and when he turned the power back on one of the breakers blew. It wasn't one he touched and he theorized that it was just old (and he said it didn't help that it didn't match the others on the panel). His thought is that when the power cycled it just couldn't handle it. He said we'd need to call out an electrician to get him to look at it and figure it out. We explained that our work was affected by that breaker being out. He told us he was hesitant to mess with it for liability reasons but he offered to replace the breaker with one that matched the others in the panel. He did it and it all came back on and worked perfectly. We couldn't thank him enough. That was totally outside of his scope of work, we were so impressed that he was willing to do that for us. SolarCraft finished up the installation on our solar panels this morning, and we couldn't be happier with our overall experience. Dave Berry had previously quoted us on a system a couple of years back when we realized our roof was nearing the end of its life, and while we were unable to move forward with the work at the time, we really enjoyed how thorough and knowledgeable he was about solar. It was a no-brainer to call him back once we got the roof work done earlier this year. Dave's level of service is top notch... from email communication, to punctuality at appointments, to follow-through. We quickly felt comfortable with the process, and were excited about working with them on the installation. Craig Powell was the foreman on our job, and he and his crew are amazing. Once dates for installation were decided, Craig and the team worked swiftly to make sure that the project was completed on time, work areas were left clean each day, and that we had a good understanding of how all of the equipment worked. SolarCraft did all of the footwork, from obtaining permits to final inspections, and we simply needed to be around if access was needed to the house for any reason. Couldn't have been more painless. While we haven't yet seen the results, since we are only on day one, we have been given an expectation of what those results will be. Since I already had solar panels but my 10 year old setup didn't comply with current fire code and the existing Sunpower panels were positive ground it was important to find a company that could deal with these issues. That meant if the Fire Marshall didn't grandfather my existing system the company had to be willing to move the panels to a location that met current fire code and tell me what the price would be to do this in advance. Some installers simply refused to do this. SolarCraft was one of the few that would provide two bids - one for the installation of the new system without changes to the old and one with a move of the old system to meet current fire code. And of the companies that would do this SolarCraft was most experienced. In addition, there was limited space left for the installation of new panels on my roof so I wanted solar panels that provided the most power per square foot at a reasonable price. This proved to be the Silfab 320 and though SolarCraft normally uses the 285 watt panels they readily agreed to use these for my installation and also agreed to get the installation up and running by the end of the year. The workers at the company deserve the most credit, though. So, when the Silfab panels did not arrive on schedule they were expedited and the manager of the install team made a special trip to FedEx to pick them up. Extra effort was also made to assure that Marin County had approved the installation before year end as necessary. It is also nice to know, not only, that this is an employee owned company but, when you visit their headquarters that the people there enjoy their work and work together well. read more

We watched a webinar in which SolarCraft participated, were impressed, and contacted their representative to get more information. Darren Kelly came to our house, and very clearly laid out what the company could offer. We signed on for a substantial solar installation this summer. The whole process went very smoothly, permits, inspections, actual installation, sign-offs by the county and by PGE. At every level, SolarCraft were professional, attentive and quick to respond to any questions. After the recent, violent storm, our power went out, the solar micro inverters showed up as "error". We contacted our rep, Janell, at SolarCraft, and were immediately reassured that once power is restored, it takes a little time for the inverters to come back on line. Which they did. Solarcraft has been totally non-responsive to post installation issues. We're on our third inverter and Zach Schlabach residential rep does not return calls or emails promptly. We waited two weeks for our last replacement inverter only to have it fail in the first week due installation errors (per the manufacturer). The tech Ken appears disinterested when he's on site and is not knowledgeable, always appearing to be in a hurry to leave. Think twice about this vendor. Initially, Solarcraft was great and I signed a contract. However, during the contract process they alluded to a potential problem with my gas meter, and I asked them to confirm the problem, but they did not. I paid a deposit, but before the project began and after the installation team review the site, they said they needed to cancel the contract because of my gas meter was too close to my electrical main. To better understand the problem, I personally met with the CEO to discuss the project, and he told me there was nothing he could do. He told me I needed to contact PGE to resolve the problem, and he said come back when this is resolved. I proceeded to spend several months working thru PGE to try and move my gas meter. This was a big headache, and after slogging thru the PGE morass, PGE told me that I simply needed to update my electrical panel. After learning of the solution, I sent the Solarcraft CEO a letter that described the proposed PGE solution, and I told them I felt they sent me on a wild goose chase. At this point I was still going to renew the project with them, but after sending the letter and explaining the bad advice I received, the only response I received was from the salesperson wanting me to sign the contract again. Not very customer centric considering they wasted months of my time. Bad customer service. My conclusions - 1) their installation team is inexperienced, gives bad advice and is not very creative, 2) my months of wasted time does not seem to matte (even the CEO in particular), 3) if you run into a problem don't assume they know what they are doing.
