Carrots and polenta
Kristina M.

Our friend Lex discovered this place on IG and we decided we would check it out before a double date night for a movie. It was a Saturday evening and apparently it's best if you have reservations. There were plenty of seats open when we arrived and the vibe given from the host was as if she didn't want to seat us. Once we were seated, others seated after us were asked what they wanted to drink and had the opportunity to order an appetizer. I'm not sure what this was about but we eventually were acknowledged and were able to place our drink and food order. The best thing I got was a cocktail for $9 which contained Mexican coke and red wine. It was delicious! Our table was not impressed with the price for the fries and asparagus. We also didn't care for the pickle plate. The pizza was good. The carrots and polenta plate I got seemed overpriced. There was parking out front and this place was easy to get to. No one ordered food outside but between the indoor and outdoor seating, there's plenty of spots to enjoy a decent meal and beautiful ambiance. I'd like to go back to try different drinks and see if their menu will change. If I go back I'll make sure to make a reservation as it seemed like the staff preferred this.

Chicago Tavern Pizza

The food here was excellent and it is definitely worth trying! All the pizzas were super tasty and they came out very quickly. The outdoor area is also really cool! The only downside was they had closed the kitchen without letting us know, we wanted to order another pizza but were unable to. Overall great experience otherwise and would go back again!

Shortly after moving to Sac, I had learned first-hand that Sac has strong pizza game! My first job being at a small, local pizza place helped cement my decision to try all the great pizza that the Greater Sacramento area has to offer. Solimar is definitely one of the few talked about vying for that #1 spot! Solimar's crust and airiness is what I dream of when I crave PIZZA. This was my second outing here, and unfortunately the crust came out a little too char char imo. Didn't care, still ate it haha It was my first time trying their take on the Chicago tavern-style and it was decent, but again a bit too much char. The menu description says burnt cheese but this was a bit much. Also I would've like a little more rise on the crust. I've lived in Chicago and have a strong love for both deep dish and tavern-style. I'd probably try again next time to see how it turns out.

I was so excited to try the newest gem in Oak Park by the talented team behind Faria Bakery. Their slow pizza is made with fresh, clean ingredients and a fluffy-yet-thin crust that screams farm to fork! Truly appreciate how fresh all ingredients are. They add a unique twist to their whole pizza by giving you scissors to cut your pizza slices however you like. However if you're craving a greasy traditional pizza this might not be your spot. I wanted to try their Chicago tavern but was sold out on a Friday night. The vibes here are perfect for a cozy date night. Think dim lighting, candles on every table, and a menu full of delicious bites. It's simple, romantic, and totally worth a visit. The Solimar Dessert was a showstopper in presentation, with great icing and flavor, but the cake itself was a tad dry for my taste. This would be the biggest area of improvement on my end but still worth a try if you're a dessert lover. I would definitely be back and would love to see how they grow as a restaurant. What we tried: * Bread & Butter * Cucumber Salad * Pistachio & Rosemary Pizza * Garlic Potato Pizza * Sausage, Confit Tomato & Ricotta Pizza * Spumoni Cake Overall review: 3.7

One of every dessert

Solimar is one of my favorite pizza spots in town! You can tell they use the most local, seasonal ingredients in everything they make. The restaurant interior is super cute and well decorated, and their outdoor seating is spacious and so nice on a warm summer evening. The workers there and at faria are very kind and attentive. They always strike up a conversation and didn't rush us when we stayed a little past closing. I also love their BOGO slice on Wednesdays when you bring a friend!

Having been long time fans of Faria, we were excited to try their restaurant next door. We were not disappointed. Everything we tried there hit it out of the park in terms of flavor, creativity, and freshness. Our server was awesome. She explained the menu and was attentive to our needs throughout the evening. We tried the roasted carrots with polenta, beets with buttermilk, and the sausage pizza. I had a glass, ok maybe two, of the chilled Lambrusco. I loved it! The ambience in the restaurant is cute and hip. We would definitely return to try some of their other offerings.

My understanding is that Faria opened this pizza restaurant, thus I had high hopes for this place (and it certainly is an improvement to the mediocre pizza place here before it). Solimar really shines in it's farm to table style pizzas with fresh and interesting ingredients. Very nice interior though some areas like the bathroom are far from finished. I hope it does well as I am a big fan of revitalizing Oak Park. Nonetheless, areas for improvement include it's not-good-at-all Chicago "Tavern" style pizza. It was burnt a decent amount and, even if not burned, was not much like true Chicago Tavern style at all (I am a born and raised Chicagoan). The cake dessert was also on the dryer side. Hope the place continues to improve and worth a visit!

New pizza place from the creators of Faria. We got three pizzas and some appetizers to share and loved the Margarita the most! We will definitely be back for this one. Wednesdays does have BOGO slice night, but we got there too late (it stops at 7).

Beets

The beets & buttermilk: roasted, salted, & pickled beets in light herb buttermilk vinaigrette to die for, the dressing was so good! I wanted to put it on everything. The spinanch tortellini & broth semolina pasta dough with housemade ricotta, nasturtium flowers, & basil oil - so simple yet delicious! I would go back just for this! Sausage pizza: red sauce, mozza, onion relish, ricotta, pickled fennel - I liked the pizza but wasn't a huge fan of the ricotta and pickled fennel. If I ordered again, I would hold those items. The crust was delicious, but left me wanting some spicy oil to add that kick. My wife got slices of the vegan pizza and cheese. Both weee delicious, the vegan was super spicy which I loved and wished it had translated to the sausage pizza. We finished it off with tiramisu, which they say is the best. I have to agree, it was massive and very very good! Super smooth and flavorful. I had 2 glasses of wine, each $21 - a bit of a high price point for wine, but it was good. Overall, great new place and would go back!

I have been a longtime Faria Bakery Lover (i honestly think it is the best bakery in town) SO I WAS SO EXCITED TO WHEN I FOUND OUT ABOUT SOLIMAR! Solimar did not disappoint my very very high expectations! I love the indoor/ outdoor seating options because both are very comfortable for smaller or larger groups. We had nonalcoholic drink: the fizzy lemonade and Mexican Sprite (the liquor license is coming soon!) For mains, we got three pizzas: Carnitas Pizza, Potato Corn Pepper Pizza, and Fig Pizza! The Carnitas Pizza was my favorite because of the fried beans on top with the chili oil butter. All of the pizzas have an amazing crust (I think they use a version of their miso sourdough base)! Moving to dessert, I consumed the BEST TIRAMISU OF MY ENTIRE LIFE! I mean the so sincerely because it was better than tiramisu from Italy, and the Grove. I will definitely be returning and ordering tiramisu for my birthday!

Sam A.

I was skeptical about $27 pizza. But let me tell you, Worth. Every. Penny. The fig and burrata pizza was my favorite, everyone also really loved the grape pizza. The corn potato pizza was also amazing. The 6 of us shared 3 pizzas and left very satisfied. The outside area is large and nice. The inside is sleek and nice. The pizza isn't quite thin or thick crust, it's a really nice chunky sourdough. Can't wait to go back.

10/10!! Everything was absolutely divine - from the ambiance, the service, the wine, and the food. We ordered a few appetizers to share, including the Chicago pizza, fried squash, and bread and butter. So so tasty, and we were impressed down to the butter served with the bread. My main course was the lasagna, which was heavenly and served with a fresh mini baguette. The lasagna had some unique twists, including a base of what tasted almost like scalloped potatoes. The portions were perfect and we had leftovers to take home. Excited to come back when the weather starts warming up to enjoy the outside patio.

Hard to see that sausage... but gooey ricotta

So glad Faria folks took this over. Seems like I think about going & its closed-- only open weekends beginning Thursday. We did take-out & got the 12 in sausage-ricotta pizza. I love their sourdough crust to begin with. Flavors of each ingredient came through-- delicious ricotta, yummy baked garlic and sausage. My criticism is they were stingy with sausage-/ barely tasted it. In a sausage pizza, you need to have a good amount of sausage!! My husband liked how they redid the space, tho he said it was bit cold (temperature wise). We will be back-- and go early like we did for takeout

There were a lot of gold accents and beautiful lighting, which absolutely added to the overall vibe of the interior. The entire environment was even calming, peaceful, and comfortable. I proceeded to order the Mango Passionfruit Refresher and a small Baklava. Oh my goodness! The drink was dynamite as well as the baklava being on point! Sana'a Cafe is in downtown Sacramento, CA…read more I popped on into Sana'a on a weekday for a coffee and something to nosh on. I've been to a Sana Cafe in San Rafael but the first time at this location. They are franchised, independently owned coffeehouses specializing in Yemeni coffee, pasties, and light bites. The staff were direct, cordial and efficient. I asked the cashier what was their best selling drink which he said "everything is good". I believed him. However he had no recommendations. Unsolicited, the other customers in line kindly gave me some. Nice. I choose the Sana'a latte with oat milk. It was creamy and infused with cinnamon, cardamom and ginger. Luved it. Delicious. Drinking this, put me in the zone. I also ordered a ground beef fatayer and baklava. The fatayer was a savory, handheld meat pie with a yeasty dough exterior. The meat was on the dry side but by golly it had flavor. Spiced up! Not hot heat level but packed with flavor. The baklava was a tiny teeny size which surprised me and left me wanting more because it was darn tasty . They also have dessert pastries which looked all so prettily yummy behind the glass counter. Most are made with milk of some sort though. For the lactose intolerant folks, I recommend bringing a lactaid pill and going for it. The interior decor is striking. Bold gold and black colored furniture and opulent chandelier lighting fixtures dominate the room. Fancy. I'm picking up regal, posh vibes. The design aesthetics are similar in all Sana's Cafe. Plus this location is open 6am-midnight everyday. Probably one of the only urban downtown coffee houses open that late for caffeinated night owls. The cafe is a few blocks down K street from DOCO. I don't know how it's like in this area after the sun sets. Just sayin.

The cherry pastry was a stunner and delicious as well with great flavor and a nice balance of sweetness. My husband wanted the Estelle Noisette and although it was good, it was my least favorite of the three. It had pleasant nutty flavors but it was a little too rich for me. In the end, the real standout was the Blueberry Choux. The cream was light and fluffy and it had just the right amount of blueberry flavor. I really liked the texture of the pastry too and how it complimented the fluffy cream. I would definitely order that one again and highly recommend it. The pastries are definitely on the pricey side, but the quality and presentation justify the cost. The interior of the shop was nice and definitely reminded me of patisseries in France. There was plenty of seating available inside but I took my order to go. I'm really glad I finally got to give them a try and while not every item was a home run for me, the Blueberry Choux alone made the visit worthwhile. I will definitely be back to explore more of their offerings very soon.
