Our family, 4 adults and 2 children, went to cafe Bernardo on Thursday evening. We had a wonderful dinner the children share a cheese pizza with a half loaf of bakery bread, or adult had a salad sampler of Thai noodles mix greens, and chopped salads, also we had one salmon burger, one Cubano and one Newman Ranch Angus burger. We also shared some sweet potato fries. All of the food was delicious. I noticed my receipt. There was an employee surcharge of 3%, some type of city tax of 1.18%, plus the sales tax. I like the tip based upon a percentage and having it related to how good the food taste. I noticed that at Café Bernardo's the percentage tip is only based upon the food. A percentage tip excludes the 3% employees surcharge, the city sales tax, and the regular state sales tax. I appreciate how Café Bernardo only uses how well the service and food is when determining a percentage for the tip. We plan on coming back with visiting family and friends in the future. I come to Cafe Bernardo in Midtown often and it's always great. This time I ordered the salmon Caesar salad with extra pickles on the side and it was absolutely perfect. The salmon was cooked perfectly and went so well with the Caesar salad. Everything tasted fresh and balanced. The extra pickles on the side were amazing! Literally my favorite. OMG, I meant to write this sooner, but got really busy after we came back from Sacramento! This would be for a mid-January experience! I thought I wrote a review last year but I can't find it, just pics, but I still love this place! Granted, it's not the cheapest place in town, but it fits the vibe for being part of the Fort Sutter Hotel. We experienced several meals here because we were staying at the hotel. We love the staff here - they are all super friendly and helpful, and they've been very accommodating despite how busy they can get for breakfast especially. I'm not sure why someone complained about their food in other reviews, but we've not had anything bad, and in fact, find the food really quite tasty and refreshing! Breakfast/Brunch seems to be the best and tastiest, with a good variety and quite well done. Toast came with a yummy strawberry jam that tastes homemade! Even their English Breakfast tea is good, without tasting like old coffee, like some other places, LOL. We did discover their fruit crisp this year, and double thumbs up & super delicious, like a warm hug! That became our go-to dessert, because our favorite dessert we had last year was gone. They had a chocolate-espresso cake that was amazing and yummy, but alas, we were told it has been taken off their bakery list. We think it ought to be brought back!! By the way, the baked goods are not on a menu, you have to look in the bakery display to see what's available. I didn't know this location existed but it is a great location. They open at 7am which coincides with the start of surgeries across the street at Sutter. The place is pretty big with various types of seating and a large patio. I had the bacon avocado omelette $16 and a coffee. The food was fresh and tasty. Weekend brunch date found us looking for somewhere new and fun, specifically somewhere we could enjoy the food and nice weather! My partner recommended this place, and so we headed out. You walk up to the register first to place your order, then grab your number and find a table to your liking. I really enjoyed that freedom and there was hardly no wait. The customer service was very friendly, we explained it was our first time. They recommended some items and answered any questions. I wound up getting a bacon avocado omelet with fresh fruit and an Arnold Palmer. My date has the eggs Benedict with fresh fruit as well. Both of us really enjoyed our meals and our drinks. I gave this only two stars and I would normally give Bernardo's about a four. I do like the one in pavilions better. I always like the food at Bernardo's. That's why I hate to give it such a low review and if I could get it, give it 2.5 I would. I took my friend for breakfast there for his birthday. I had the huevos rancheros. It had all the normal elements of huevos rancheros, but there was just no taste to it there wasn't any salsa or even salsa offered on the side. I know salsa's relative but at least a little bit of salsa on the side would've been nice. I had to add the sauce on the table to give it any flavor. The dish was hot and the proportions were large so that was a good thing. I also get the mushroom salad anytime I go to any Bernardo's repair Gary's restaurant. That salad is just the best but this time it was below par we're at par. The mushrooms has always were crisp and fresh. There was not enough cheese, and it just seemed to lack that zing and that zest that I love about the salad. I think that old lemons were used or they let it sit too long. I also ordered the carrot cake for dessert. I sound like a pig, but I'm home a lot and it's better than ordering Doordash! The carrot cake was still yummy as always, but it was just kind of thrown into a box was that pavilions? The slices are even on all sides. I placed nicely in the to go bag. I went with my wife and friends last night to enjoy a meal and cocktail before our show at The Sophia. We sat in the bar area of the hotel as it was festive for Christmas. Service was great and attentive. My salmon dish has been amazing the last few times that I have ordered it. I always ask for no salt and it works out perfectly. I absolutely love Cafe Bernardo, it's my go-to breakfast place with my best friend and my boyfriend. We've made a little ritual out of it and it never disappoints! I'm obsessed with their avocado toast, hands down one of the best I've had anywhere, especially with the egg on top. The waffle is so good (crispy outside, fluffy inside), and my boyfriend is fully hooked on their breakfast burrito, it's his ride-or-die order every time. I've also tried the salmon and it was sooo good, fresh, flavorful, and beautifully done. The lounge seating is my favorite part, super chill, cozy, and perfect for a laid-back breakfast vibe. When I say can I add pickle, say sure but there will be an extra charge and then I can decide if it's worth it. Also $4.50 for a can of Diet Coke? Like what kind of twilight zone is this. It doesn't say canned soda on the menu, (it actually says fountain soda on the receipt) Which also feels shady to me. If I'm paying $5 for a soda I assume it's a fountain soda I can refill. The burger was dry and had no flavor. The turkey sandwich was dry. The mushroom salad was good but it's very unique taste like 7/up with mushrooms in it and I know that sounds odd but it's actually yummy. The ham sandwich was the best thing we had I give it a 8/10. The French fries oddly enough tasted just like McDonald's which we all liked. The carrot cake was ok. Not worth $8 a slice. The peanut butter cookies were good, 7/10 but the cookie part was a bit dry. Nothing comes with sides, Everything cost extra, and the portions are small for the price point. Had dinner around 7pm, it was nice and quiet at this time. Sun had already set so it was dimly lit inside, we arrived at the counter area assuming that's where you go to be seated but apparently that are correct. Another couple walked in after us, and the hostess asked who was here first to which I replied we were. The other couple however was sat first for some reason, so my girlfriend said something and the hostess apologized and sat us right after. She said something about them being self-service, which I'm not sure what they meant exactly and if you just sit first or if you're supposed to wait to be seated somewhere else. But it's definitely different than the Café Bernardo at the Pavilion and on R Street. Where at both you order at the front counter and then you're seated. At this location it's different apparently which is somewhat confusing. However we didn't let that hiccup ruin our night, and once looked over the menu briefly just to try something new. Our waitress was really nice and friendly, and helped with the girlfriends drink selection after asking for a Gin drink recommendation.
