Funny thing is going to the dealer would've been $30 less and hardly less of a convenience at this point. $150 an hour to flush my brakes with me bringing my own fluid. BMW charges $150 and provides their own fluid and resets the service indicator. read more

I needed my Ohlins shock recharged w/oil & nitrogen, and after a quick web search I found Solo Moto, a factory-authorized Ohlins service outlet not too far away. When I got there Carlos greeted me, and I immediately felt comfortable and confident all would go well. And it did ! He started right in on the shock. I brought my own oil but the Ohlins machine needed more, so I got some and returned - once again he dropped what he was doing, and shortly thereafter the shock was done! We talked about so many things, surrounded by so many cool bikes - it was great. There were two other guys there, also very friendly and busily getting several bikes tuned up. I had my bike serviced by Carlos this spring to get it road ready for the summer. Carlos was very upfront and told me what he would do and how much it may cost. After about a week or so at the shop (I was able to contact him while it was there) he gave me a call and we spoke for at least 15-20 minutes in which he told me everything that he did, how my bike performed, and even offered to drop off the bike for me. When he dropped it off, he walked around the bike, showed me the work done, and told me what I should do next (work he didn't do because I didn't give him the go ahead). My bike runs great, and I'm happy I chose him to service it. I'll definitely be going back if I have any issues or questions. read more

This guy has no idea what he is doing and claims to be certified mechanic on every brand of motorcycle known to man. We checked him out and of the 6 we checked.......NOT ONE! His shoddy work and lack of attention to any detail almost killed a good friend of mine. I spoke to him about the work and it was very simple to tell he did not know what he was talking about. For the 'Greenwich' type of rider that knows nothing, yep, this guy would rob them and they would say what a great mechanic he is. For any real bike riders/bikers, a guy like this is to be avoided like riding a wheelie at 90 mph on the NJ Turnpike during a blizzard. Carlos, lack of knowledge/and or less than par work on a machine with 2 wheels kills people. If you are possibly good with one brand of bike, stick to and advertise your ability on that ONE brand. Was there yesterday after Carlos agreed last minute to fit my bike in before my ride to Nova Scotia next week. First off, the shop belongs in a fashion shoot - it's a very picturesque setting and immediately cools the nerves of first-time visitor to the shop with it's immaculate spaces inside and out, filled with immaculate, sparkling motorcycles, many of show quality, not to mention 20th (or earlier) century stone architecture in this quaint little nook near Port Chester. I take particular pleasure in seeing bikes being worked on with signs of care such as labelled tape markings to indicate to whomever works on the bike what has been done, what's torqued to what rating, what needs lubrication, etc. Also many bikes had protective covers on them to protect them cosmetically while work was being performed. I would emphatically avoid this shop. Here is my experience: I was recommended to Solomoto by a friend, brought my HD in for a tuneup. It was running very poorly. It is a 20 year old gorgeous sportster I bought with 3k miles on it. It has straight pipes and part of the problem was I had to rev it to keep it from stalling and the noise was too much. So I asked for a baffle solution as part of the tuneup. Carlos, the owner, took my bike in and refused to tell me when he would give it back or what it would cost. He then proceeded to go on a two week wild goose chase to "solve" the noise problem (he unilaterally decided baffles don't work) and proceeded to rudely advise me that he knows what he is doing and to leave him alone that he was too busy and I was lucky to have him. I kept begging him to stop the research and just fix the bike. Almost a month went by, and he refused to tell me when it would be ready and even what needed to be done. I was shocked. Nobody treats me that way. I'm the customer! And I'm a nice guy! It started to dawn on me that I had fallen into a version of the soup nazi. He ended up charging me $100 an hour for 10 hours of work plus parts- A $1200 charge to rebuild the carburetor and brakes, and a full tuneup. He had me so beaten down after a month of begging him for my bike back that I just acquiesced. He did a good job it seems, but his horrible attitude, the cost and abuse are not worth it. I will not go back to him. He seemed a bit defensive when he gave me the bill and I'm convinced he also charged me for the time he wasted looking for a muffler, which he gave up on in the end and never resolver. I wonder if he always charges $100 an hour, which seems to me to be very high, or if he saw me coming when I told him I really wanted my bike back.... after a month of waiting! read more

I've always had trouble finding a specialty bike mechanic to work on my '97 Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport. It was always a case of locating some outfit that usually did shoddy work and then learning they went belly up shortly after I found them. Well for anyone seeking a specialty bike mechanic who will work anything no matter how obscure or exotic, Solo Moto is the place to go. My bike needed a complete suspension overhaul, front and rear, but for years but I couldn't find anyone willing to take it on. Not only did Carlos and team do a superb job but they checked the whole bike over and dialed in the induction as well (and provided a good cleaning). Now for the first since owning the bike, it rides like new and the total cost was very reasonable. These guys are true craftsmen who know and appreciate vintage/specialty bikes and go above and beyond when servicing and repairing them. Took a Ducati 1000 ds for partial service. They did the belts, checked the valves, replaced a small cover, installed an air filter, installed new sparkplugs and banged me for $900. I priced the items they supplied at the Ducati dealer and the total cost was $120. Belts, cover, plugs. Didn't even re-set the service light. Nice guys, clean shop, but way expensive IMHO read more

This is not your ordinary shop that's just looking to churn out as many repairs in a day as possible. By no means will you be "up-sold" here.
