A hearty amount of flaked salmon, creamy basil dressing, fresh avocado and other veggies that taste like a fresh treat. So, I have an idea: Why don't we rename this place "No F***s Given"? (From this point on, it'll be referred to as NFG.) Let me state from the jump that this review is based primarily upon the breakfast service experience. The restaurant itself is actually quite inviting; the space is open, clean, aesthetically pleasing. I never mind staring at shelves of gorgeously curated whiskies, bourbons and scotches, but that's beside the point I'm trying to make here. My first impression: the gum-smacking woman on the register. (Like, riding shotgun on the Doublemint Express, holding it between her teeth while she paused, chewing it like Steph Curry chews his mouthguard during a time out.) Maybe her name was Jasmine? I couldn't quite read her gold name necklace. The gum thing is disgusting, period -- but hey, NFG, right? There are only a couple of people in there besides us, and the food takes nearly 15 minutes to come out. I see it come out and sit on the counter for a couple of minutes; none of the staff is paying attention. So, my friend stands up to go get the food herself. One staff member comes over to help, but we've already taken the matter into our own hands. No big deal. We kind of laugh, but then our gum smacking pal decides to visibly eye roll us. Because NFG. A suggestion about the menu: It really should list *everything* that comes on or in a particular item, because of people with food allergies or aversions. My friend ordered the Croque Madame, and when she bit into it, she nearly spit it out because it was slathered with mustard, which she absolutely can't stand. Nowhere on the menu was mustard listed as a component (and, to be fair, I don't know of many breakfast sandwiches that come with mustard). So, she asked it to be redone, and they did do that right away without fuss. And she liked it. Cool. The breakfast burrito sounds delicious in theory, but it's oddly flavorless. Salsa of some sort would make it way better. But edible and not terrible. Just meh. I couldn't help being super turned off by the attitudes of the staff here. Not the friendliest, and super aloof... maybe just a bad morning. We'll see. There were a couple of items on the lunch menu that sounded intriguing and delicious, and there are several 4 and 5 star reviews on here, but I'm in no hurry to return. It'll happen when it happens. SOMA Eats is hands down one of my favorite lunch spots. Besides how great the food is I also love the way the interior is designed. The brand is very thoughtful and considered. If you are headed here for lunch and don't plan on eating in, make sure you go to the shorter line for the "take out" orders. Came here to have lunch with a friend around 2:30-3 on a Tuesday afternoon. It's a little tough to find if you aren't really looking for it bc it's wedged between 2 other buildings, but it certainly is a little gem. The inside is very San Francisco, wood and brass furnishings, very modern and welcoming. We both ordered a salad (which was what attracted us to the place to begin with). I had the roasted veggie salad and she had a date a goat cheese salad, both were great sized portions and very flavorful, I would order it again in a heartbeat! There weren't many people inside, probably bc it was in the middle of a workday; it was a pretty hot day, and the inside was quite warm so we sat outside. We stayed for almost 4 hours and ordered an iced coffee and a cappuccino later on, which were both very delicious and rich. The staff was very friendly as well. They had a rather vast wine and beer selection as well. I would definitely come back here and try some beers they have on tap. read more

Came here for breakfast as I was around a little too early. The place is beautiful! It's a clean, warm environment, and quite open. In the morning, it isn't super busy (probably because early for me is when most people get to work), and the people are super nice. I asked the cashier what her favorite breakfast item was, and she said that the burrito was delicious and had wonderful potatoes. The description sounded too good to give up, and I love breakfast burritos, so that's what I got...and it was only $6.50! My brain! Why is that affordable?? I didn't want to get my hopes up, but when the burrito came (plated beautifully on a wooden chopping board), it was pretty much perfect. Simple, fresh ingredients, portions that aren't too large or too small. The lady was right. The potatoes were quite wonderful. I would definitely want to come by for lunch if it's not busy. The atmosphere in general is lovely, and they also serve Five Mountains tea, which is loose leaf, so yay! I would absolutely stay in simply because it is such a nice environment. read more

this has become one of my go-to lunch spots, not only because the proximity to my office, but because of the quality menu items. the salads are great. I love the Greens, Walnut and Cranberry and the Spinach, Date and Goat Cheese salads. The egg salad sandwich with avacado and bacon is fantastic, especially when accompanied by a cup of the soup special. I also love the pulled pork sandwich. I'm looking forward to the lamb sandwich, but it's hard to pass up one of the dishes I've already mentioned. drinks (juices, sodas, ice teas) seem kinda expensive. A bottle of Voss water (why???) was $4 I think. I only ordered it once. but the salads and sandwiches were an okay value considering the quality. it can be really crowded and hard to find a table. getting there even 10 minutes before noon makes a huge difference. read more

Solid lunch option!! I like it. This place is a modern kitchen with high ceilings and self-seating. It's quick, easy, delicious - what else do you need in SoMa? I tried to get a cold sandwich but the cashier talked me into getting a turkey meatloaf sandwich instead - and so glad he did! The ciabatta was utterly perfect - chewy and warm without the edges being too crunchy or hard. The meatloaf was done so well too and was just a bit crumbly and soft, like a sloppy joes. Delish. I've only come here a few times, but this place is great for lunch in the busy area it resides in. The new Greek salad is well put together, not terribly overpriced, and the wait is short even at peak times. I did find it odd that there are no kalamata olives in the Greek salad, but to be fair this made me happier than having to request it be left off. I've been watching this space to see what happens with it ever since it was a hot yoga studio back in the day. Glad they decided to make it a place with food. Cool interior with a pretty wide open space with a bar, some seats and alcohol (beer, wine, spirits) living the other side of the store. I've been here twice since the opening. I first got the Salmon Nicoise sandwich and it was really good and super tasty. Next time I got the baked salmon green goddess salad. While I thought it was good, the dressing could have used more flavor and it definitely could have used more avocado. I'll definitely be back as it's a nice addition to the neighborhood. read more

Awesome selection of beers- not only on tap, but by the bottle. Looking forward to a happy hour or two in the future. Breakfast/Lunch options look appealing, so I'll definitely have an update once I try that. No decaf pour over, which I don't entirely understand. Just take some of those decaf espresso beans and give me a pour over! But at least I can get an espresso drink. Soma Eats is definitely best saved for either meat or beer/wine lovers. As a vegetarian, there were about two menu choices. I went with the roasted vegetable salad, and it was desperately lacking in any type of protein. A bean or tofu would be nice. The salad was mostly composed of arugula and large marinated mushrooms. The mushrooms were well-spiced and flavorful. I know some people consider this a meat replacement, but it doesn't really hold you over until later. I will say my meat-eating coworkers love this spot and come frequently for both sandwiches and salads. The cafe itself has a clean feel to it. A small area of seating and even smaller outside seating area are nice touches. The beer and wine case is vast - might good for a stop in on your way home. Service is generally quick, even at busier times. I wouldn't run back, but it's a solid lunch option in the area for those who eat meat. read more

Very nice place! Got here on Monday's afternoon for lunch. We ordered soup of the day - it was some kind of creamy tomato and peppers soup with croutons - and Salmon Nicoise sandwich. Both were delicious. And we received our ordered really fast. Great service! Prices are really good. Atmosphere is nice. We liked in here. Hope to get here for breakfast one day too. Super delish!!! Came here because I signed up for MealPal. I ordered the Greek goddess salad s baked salmon and it was soooooooooo amazeeeeeee. The compostable bowl was packed w mixed greens, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, carrots, and oh so much salmon. It was amaze. Sauce came on the side. I would totally come back here again even without meal pass. I'd feel fine about spending $12 on one of these salads opposed to going to Mixt greens. read more

The coffee is strong and dark, quite good, and the breakfast burrito is one of the best I've tasted (perfect mix of egg, cheese and potatoes). There is a high end wine store here to that probably helps keep food prices moderate. Only downside is no WiFi or power. read more

mmmm, just popped in here for lunch today and was really impressed with how the space turned out! i've been watching the construction happen, ha. the beer selection is rather impressive both in terms of bottles and drafts, but we opted for bottles of the IPA variety. there is also a bunch of spirits! i got the roasted lamb sandwich on ciabatta - super well seasoned and well cooked lamb. my friend got the turkey on ciabatta, but didnt seem as impressed because the bread was a bit tough. meeps! iono - i will definitely be back! a great alternative to the usual suspects around fidi because there is a nice sit down area as well as bar seating. casual lunch for 2 - about $35. cant wait for happy hours to happen here! :) read more

Food is delicious and I love the decor. But I give it 3.5 stars because no wifi and no outlets. Come on SF cafes these are necessities in the city! Sometimes you need to do a little work before a meeting and no wifi makes me reconsider this as a meeting spot unfortunately. read more

By the looks it is hard to say if this is a bar or a cafe. There is a huge shelf that carries wine bottles, which gives an impression that this is more of a bar. I went here for lunch with my colleagues. It gets very crowded on weekdays. One can't get a seat that easily and if you are in a large group, it is unlikely that you all can get seated together. Also, what's up with two counters? I didn't know where to order without asking the staff. There are a wide variety of sandwiches, salads and soups. I tried a a Sandwich, good taste. Order at the counter and they'll serve the food to your table. I tried roasted eggplant sandwich and it was good. It's little pricey but, considering it is located in the heart of financial district in San Francisco, the price feels somewhat justified. read more

Great food for the price and one of the largest beer selections in the city. While lunch crowds might scare you this place delivers fresh quality dishes quickly. The staff is very nice and knows all there is to beer. Also they have an alcohol selection that rivals Cask and Healthy Sprits. Pappy available for a small premium but it's pappy. What a great find! The restaurant choice today revolved around finding a parking spot. Soma was around the corner, and what a great choice! The turkey meatloaf sandwich is amazing. SOMA is a great spot in the financial district if you want a quick bite OR to hang out for a bit. This location has a great atmosphere and looks like a good place to also grab drinks after work. It usually gets busy around lunchtime so you can always order ahead of time if needed. This was one of the top 5 salads I've ever had. Pulled chicken, goat cheese, dates, shredded carrots, nuts... It was exactly what I wanted at that moment and I don't think I could have made it better myself. Everything was really well-proportioned and it was a good size. Very cool, laid back place with a friendly staff and atmosphere. Good music too. Set up to be kind of a hang out spot, with long communal tables, a bar and a few little tables on the side, in front of a very good liquor selection. Open but cozy at the same time. They have some great beers on tap and a cooler with pretty much anything you could want that's available in the region. Beer, on tap at least, is not cheap. $7 for the small stuff, $8 for the mid-range, and $9+ for the big boys. But that's this neighborhood, and I can't fault them for that. After all, what was one of the better salads of my life was $11.50, which is not bad for this area at all. The food menu does kind of come as a lunch place, but they're open until 10pm most nights, so it's a good call for most meals, I think. I'll be back! read more

My work caters lunch from SOMA Eats and I've gotten a few different salads here. The portions are huge, salad is really fresh, and very filling. My personal favorite is the New Greek salad - it is seriously so good. It comes with a creamy yogurt dressing, if you aren't a fan of yogurt based dressings, you can ask for olive oil vinegar dressing and it tastes just as great too. They have soups and sandwich for lunch - I haven't had any but they look great too. Would definitely recommend coming here for lunch if you work in FIDI! read more

My friend lives in SOMA and she told me she frequented SOMA Eats often when she wanted to grab something healthy and hearty for dinner or lunch. The place is extremely well decorated with a very contemporary yet homely atmosphere. Even on chilly San Franciscan nights, SOMA Eats is always warm, which adds to the cozy feeling. I chose to get the Pulled Pork Sandwich under the "heated sandwiches" menu. The sandwich was scrumptious and very well flavored - spiced pulled pork with a jalapeno and date coleslaw on toasted ciabatta. I also got the wine sampling - 3 choices of wine from the somewhat extensive wine selection - for $14, which is not too bad of a deal! Upon first appearance, the sandwich seemed a bit small for the price (after all, you can easily get a footlong Subway sandwich for half the price). However, after biting into the ciabatta bread, I realized that the taste more than made up for the quantity - a perfect example of when quality trumps quantity! The flavoring was a tad bit salty, but the pork mixed perfectly well with the jalapeno and coleslaw. I was definitely more than pleased. And the wine - I chose a combination of sweet red and white wine (please pardon me, I forgot the names of the wines I chose), which also mixed perfectly with the salty sandwich I chose. Service is also great here, with very friendly staff who helped me choose the best wine selection. If you are in the SOMA district with an hour for dinner, I would definitely recommend this cozy place! I hear it is also open for breakfast as well! read more

Overrated. Stopped for dinner. Ordered the roasted eggplant sandwich and the lamb sandwich. For $10/sandwich, I honestly feel like I got ripped off. I just bought bread with a bit of ingredients tucked in the middle. Completely underwhelmed. There was almost nothing between the thick slices of bread. I work really close to SOMA Eats so I've been here a couple of times, both for myself and ordering for people in my office. For San Francisco, I feel that the prices are very reasonable! About $10-12 and you get a huge salad or a filling sandwich. They have interesting items like the New Greek Salad or the Deviled Egg Sandwich, which are my 2 favorites. They also have a wide selection of drinks in the fridges by the line, with options like kombucha, juice, tea, beer, and wine. It tends to get busy and packed during the lunch rush, but SOMA Eats is an example of a place that knows how to handle these peak times! Even when there is a line, it moves very fast and the orders keeps coming out nonstop. Last time I ordered about 10 items and didn't have to wait long. They also labeled everything with stickers which was extremely useful for my big order. All in all it's really nice having SOMA Eats so close by when I need a quick lunch, though I don't find myself craving their food too often (it's really good! I just tend to get tired of salad/sandwich lunches). Perfect if you need to grab a couple items for the office as well. read more

This place is a weekday morning option for me as I like to rotate where I can get coffee but the other day that I came here, they ran out of coffee. Yeah I know...crazy huh? They had to make me an Americano instead. I usually have not gotten an Americano but I remember that it's espresso and water together so shouldn't it taste like coffee? Turns out it didn't taste anything like coffee. And although they are in my coffee rotation now, they could be in danger of dropping out of it since their pricing is about 50 cents on average higher than other options on the block. read more
