5/26/27 WARNING: Habit forming.... the MOCHA cookie should come with this label. Wandered into the bakery after having breakfast at the Village Grille and I wasn't planning on getting anything but the mocha cookies were beckoning. It looked so luscious & fresh, I had to try just one. They have so many different kinds of pastries all made freshly today, displayed to entice any wandering person (like me). There are refrigerated cupcakes also on display (photo). It looks like they cater to make cakes as there are books with images of cakes in one corner. The young lady who I ordered from was very cordial & was happy to answer my questions. The almond croissant has almond paste inside, I have yet to taste it. On a leisurely weekend, we decided to take a drive out here and explore the area. As we approached this little shop, I noticed several people hovering around the entrance. That's usually a good indication this is a place I want to check out. The interior is small, so a short line will make it appear packed. Most of the baked goods are behind the glass counter where you place the orders. Personal sized cakes/ muffins are in a separate refrigerated case, and they're not self serve. The staff will grab it for you. We just grabbed a couple of things that we haven't seen before; a Bailey's caramel chocolate cookie and a Raspberry lime cheesecake cupcake. The cookie had no Bailey's liqueur flavor but the caramel stood out. It was on the sweeter side. The cupcake was more indulgent, and both would pair well with some strong coffee. There are a few small tables outside to enjoy the sweets and people watch. The service was pleasant and the prices are reasonable. If we ever make it out to Claremont again, this will definitely be a stop I'd make. read more

Bottom line first: the older of the two popular bakeries in Claremont. Hands down my favorite. Getting more crowded again. Excellent confections and sandwiches. I could've sworn that I wrote a review on my favorite place in Claremont. Either it somehow got deleted, or I only wrote it in my imagination. Regardless, here is again. We started hanging around this area, and the love of my life introduced me to this place. Of course, it's easy for any sweettooth like me to love a bakery, but this place is special: it had a homey feel, friendly service, and most importantly, excellent food and value. Although mostly known for their bakery items, and I can't reveal what my favorite item is for selfish reasons, they actually also have a nice set of sandwich options from their expanded space next door. On top of that, there is a reward program for sandwiches! There was a period of lull after they had to shut down for two weeks to fix the oven, but the crowd is back . Although not as crazy as what I remembered, meaning out the door consistently every morning, it's still pretty busy. Good for the store, maybe not so much fun for customers like me who just wants to get in and out. Don't give me wrong...I'm happy for the business. I do enjoy this place! I came on Black Friday. Parking was a bit difficult but takes patience and walking. They were busy but we were helped right away. Person who helped was not super friendly. I got the salted caramel cookie which was good. I also got the Apple Crumble cupcake. Just to be fair, the cupcake came right out of the fridge. It was pretty. All their cupcakes are decorated by nicely. The problem was the icing. It was hard. I ended up taking it off. It tasted like lard. I'm not sure of I let it sit out that I would still like it. This is one of my favorite bakeries. I used to cycle here every Saturday (sometimes Sundays as well) to grab a coffee and bear claw. The Nicaraguan coffee always came in clutch to save the second half of my ride. The bear claws are so good, I usually want to buy at least two. They have a bakery side and a deli depending on your mood. I'm usually at the bakery side, they even have treats for your 4 legged friend, my dogs love those treats. During the holidays they come out with special menus to add to your feast but order early so you don't miss out. The service is always great there, someone to welcome you and serve you your own treats. Seating outside to enjoy the downtown area or sit inside the deli on a cloudy day. We went in the afternoon maybe an hour or two before they close so a lot of the things are already sold out. But we were able to find a few goodies ... I decided to get my mom's 80th bday cake here and was hopeful that this would be my new place. I've NEVER spent as much money on a bday cake as this one here, but I'm willing to pay if it's GOOD. Well, upon pickup it looked pretty. Wish it tasted as good as it looked. It was awful. Totally did not live up to what I'm looking for in a cake.
