I happened upon this spot while exploring and seeing what was new to the area since I used to live over here. With a craving for donuts, it was perfect! There was a grand opening sign and no line, so I walked right up to the counter and got a few things to try. The chocolate bavarian creme has a good ratio of light, soft dough to creme on the inside which was perfect and reachable within one bite. The pink with sprinkles was also really light and soft and I loved the frosting on it. They have bear claws, old fashioned donuts, cake donuts, glazed, and also a variety of scones. My favorite bite here was actually the spinach and cheese pastry. The dude told me to microwave for 20 seconds for perfection and he wasn't lying! It was so puffy and had so much flavor with just enough cheese and spinach to fill it out. I'm shocked by how good they are! As a true donut lover, My favorite donuts on earth are tied between Voodoo Donuts in Portland Oregon, and Zettlemeier's in Tinley Park, Illinois. One of my Sons recommended this little place. I immediately enjoyed the decor, as well as how clean it was inside. Two staff there, both seemed nice. We ordered a dozen, with many different to test (wink, wink). I ordered a cup of regular coffee to wash down those tests. The donuts are delicious, and a very close second to my favorites. The coffee was as good as you would hope for a good donut shop. This place deserves the five stars for taste, freshness, variety, and having a cute and clean shop. I recommend it highly. read more

I am a loyal fan of the Somethin' sweet donuts brand ever since going to the original location and interacting with the owner Jimmy. I had the chance to check this new location out some days back. The layout & decor is similar to the original, so it brings fond memories. The donuts, confections and savory items have all the same great taste. Somethin' Sweet differs from other chains in their selections. For every flavor of donut, there are two specific styles. Both are cake like and either topped with a glaze or crunchy bits. Apple fritters, Bavarian creme, etc are considered premium confections and don't count towards 1/2 or full dozen pricing. They also offer savory pastries, such as a croissant like pastry with spinach or ham and cheese. The confections are tasty and prepared fresh. Each are packed with great flavor and textures. What lacks IMO is personality. The family member at the counter was alright, but, it just wasn't the same as visiting with Jimmy. In a confections shop, a bit of smile and glee would be nice. Of course not necessary. But those of us that like to fund local businesses with our monies; it's nice getting to know proprietors and staff. Even in the smallest interactions. Besides regular donuts I really like their specialty ones the best. Ube (Taro) and matcha are to die for. My husband really likes their Bavarian cream donuts the best. They serve coffee expresso lattes and tea. Since I've last been here (they are way out of my way) they've add bubble tea too. I'll have to try it next time now that I know. Continuing the trend of trying to support local businesses during this COVID-19 nightmare - and this sweet treat spot is the place to be ! Right now I think they're open from 6-4 PM , They had an ample number of options when I came in around 9:30 and it was 11$ for a half a dozen . The doughnuts tasted great (I had a blueberry doughnut ) and it was moist and flavored perfectly . The guy working was nice as well and answered all my questions . Their Albany Park location is my go to donut shop. It is conveniently located on Kedzie and is family owner and operated. They make a variety of fresh, moist donuts as well as coffee, smoothies, ice cream, and other drinks. I usually get a mocha and whatever seasonal donut they have. I had an issue with the workers ignoring me and not saying hello when I walked in. Another lady came in after me and she was promptly greeted! I sent an email to complain thinking nothing would come of it. Instead I promptly got an email from the owner Andrew which said: Thank you so much for reaching out and this is completely unacceptable and we do not condone this type of behavior from our employees! I will get to the bottom of this so that I can make things right for you. As a minority myself who've experienced similar micro-aggressions, I want to assure you that I absolutely will not tolerate this type of behavior in my own place of business. I am very disappointed to hear how our service was for you today and I will immediately work to rectify this problem. My son and I came in later that week and he gave us free donuts and a 30 gift card. I felt sooooo valued and seen! He didn't invalidate my feelings. I really appreciate that! I love this little shop. My first experience was over 2yrs ago at the Fullerton location which is closer to me, but I have been to Kedzie 2x's in the last 3 weeks and I'm am so impressed with how nice they are. My experiences on both occasions have been more then pleasant. This is our favorite donut shop on the northwest side. They're fluffy yeast donuts are my favorite. I've never thought much about longjohns, feeling that most of the time they're just bland planks for splatterings of sugar, but Somethin's light and fluffy batter combines with flavorful icing and a satisfying chew, to make this my new favorite donut. My kids adore the ever-changing sprinkle varieties, and my husband loves all the different flavored cake donuts, especially red velvet and an apple cinnamon variety. The staff is patient and moves quickly with the early morning rushes so that even though there are usually a few people right when they open, I've never had to wait there long no matter what time of day I come. Their coffee is solid and they have a cooler with a selection of other drinks. I only wish they would sell T-shirts or merch, because their branding is epically cool! read more

1 dozen donuts is almost 40 bucks (6 specialty 6 regular). Price aside, when I was trying to ask the lady that was there a couple of questions she seemed annoyed and bothered. The cherry donut was good, everything else was ok and tasted stale the next day. The hours weren't updated online which bothered me a bit, having to drive an hour roundtrip to go to a closed shop. Positives - the coffee drinks are good. Negatives - Not the friendliest of service. Most bakeries and coffee shops are happy places. This one looks happy but the customer service was very disappointing. We were not greeted at all until we initiated the greeting ourselves and even then the workers response was not warm or welcoming. when we asked to participate in the Clover app points system we were denied because she told us that we should have asked her before the transaction (I guess girl). We've used the app at other stores and ALWAYS check in after. I haven't tried the donuts yet but I already have a bad taste in my mouth. Do better. read more
