I've traveled a lot for work coast to coast , and it's crazy to know that some of the best donuts in the world are right in Albany square. By far the best Donut shop! I like my donuts old fashioned and this places has always made them delicious. I used to go to their older location which was a 15-20 minute drive away from home. These donuts were very average. Nothing spectacular, but better than a grocery store donut or Dunkin donuts. I've heard they are known for their cake donuts but I actually found their yeast donuts to be much better. Their yeast dough was fluffy and their glaze was decent. I tried their regular glaze and strawberry glaze with sprinkles, both pretty good. The cake donuts were too dry but had a nice glaze. Their seasonal pumpkin and apple cake donuts had underwhelming flavors that I could barely taste. Their bear claw was filled with apple filling that tasted great, while their raspberry jelly-filled had good dough but not the best raspberry jam. In addition, their buttermilk bar was so dry and hard it tasted like it had been sitting around for weeks. Worst of all their donuts was the old-fashioned, absolutely plain, too hard, and didn't really taste like anything. Definitely go to firecakes or doughnut vault if you are craving an old fashioned. Surprisingly, their milk tea was pretty decent, even though they only had three flavors (milk tea, taro, and green tea). I tried their original milk tea and thought it tasted great and the boba was really well made. So overall, I'd try the milk tea and yeast donuts from here but avoid the seasonal specials as they weren't worth it. read more

Finally, we found a donut shop that sits in the sweet spot between your run of the mill place and a super pricey and fancy type of place. This place makes fun and whimsical donuts plus all of the classics. We brought a dozen to a kids' play outing and they were a hit. Really eager to try some of the other varieties that they have. Strongly recommend this place, only wish I could make it there more often! read more

Strange experience. Really yummy donuts, but weirdly unfriendly service. No "Welcome", "Hi", "How can I help you?", "You're welcome", "Thanks", nor "Bye". Even after a "Hi" and "Thanks" were said to them. The only thing said was the price of our purchase. It felt very deliberately cold and unfriendly. And no, it was not busy. We were the only customers there. Maybe they received bad news that day? Disgruntled family members? We want to give it a second chance, as we are new to the neighborhood. The only place I wanted to take the family on National Donut Day. They did not disappoint. Not only were they extremely prepared for a rush, they had a full stock and every single one was delicious (as tested by my whole family, not just myself). It's a cute donut shop/cafe. Limited variety - 10 or less flavors in donuts. Service was ok- considering it was 6pm. In Albany park. He could have tried to be somewhat personable considering he'd barely sold 20% of what was displayed. They do offer coffee/specialty espresso drinks/teas as well. I had the iced Thai coffeee easy on condensed milk w/ extra ice. It tasted fairly well considering the request for extra ice was desregarded. My daughter had the Thai iced tea- too rich and sweet- not enough tea flavor. It reminded me of consistent Inconsistency of Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee. As far as donuts- I had the Boston cream. Not going to lie- although it was not fresh and I ate it a couple of hours after I purchased it... it still tasted really good! My daughter has the old fashioned and that was pretty good ass well- heavy but still light but overall good. This place is great and I do want to see them succeed but I don't see them lasting if they don't kick up their service game or have some kind of daily special. Forget the usual fast food subjects. Something Sweet has swiftly become my go-to for coffee, donuts, milk teas, and so on--basically the ideal coffee break destination. The selection is fantastic, the prices are reasonable, and everything is as delicious as it looks. Fantastic, fresh and beautiful doughnuts. Midweek, mid morning visit found a vast selection of standard and " specialty" doughnuts ( savory pastry was sold out). Sugar doughnut - light with non clumped topping and no greasiness. Coconut frosted had soft coconut which was well adhered to icing. Specialty selection inc,used blueberry or lemon filled, cream Bismarck and cinnamon roll. Went in specifically to buy a single cinnamon sugar or crunch ...but was so impressed by selection instead bought a dozen to split with my in-laws. Will be back for a cinnamon one soon! read more

We just moved to Albany Park and tried Somethin' Sweet Donuts and loved them! We tried a variety of donuts including the Bavarian Cream, Cinnamon, Old Fashioned, Cinnamon Roll, and Chocolate Frosted. The man helping us also threw in a free Red Velvet donut, one of their most popular, after we told him we were new to the neighborhood. The donuts were fresh and tasted great.
