first time trying Somisomi, I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but it was such a great choice! I ended up getting the upside down with a cup of cookies and cream, ice cream, cream, and a Nutella filled taiyaki and some fruity pebbles and a macaroon included. it was clean and had a large area for seating. my order came out very quick and there was only one worker, she deserves a raise!! shoutout to her
Visited at 6:15 on a Sunday. The wait was so long, they locked the doors and stopped taking order for 30 mins+. We were one of the last orders before they locked doors/cut off orders and it took 30 mins to get two upside down ice cream cups. So I would be aware coming if you are expecting to get in and out quick. Hoping when the new Plano location opens, this one won't be as busy! I've come before right before close (10:45pm) and it took 5 mins so maybe that's the better time to visit.
This dessert shop specializes in soft serve and taiyaki, fish shaped waffles. The store is bigger than expected and has a lot of seating! Don't be deterred by the queue it draws, it moves rather quick. They have several classic soft serve flavors and swirls they offer at limited time, as well as several fillings for the taiyaki. I got the ube/matcha swirl in a cup with taiyaki filled with black sesame. You get to choose toppings as well - I opted for oreo crumbs and a strawberry. My friend got the banana chocolate swirl soft serve. The ice cream itself is pretty tasty with a nice, smooth texture. The banana was a bit artificial tasting. But otherwise, the soft serve and taiyaki combo is great. Smooth soft serve served with a warm fluffy waffle.
My second time here, but a different location. So my boyfriend got the Ahboong (upside down) with custard filling and Oreo ice cream. The Ahboong tasted like a really fluffy pancake and the custard filling was yummy and had the perfect consistency. The Oreo flavor was good too, but seemed like a basic chocolate flavor. What's good is that you can put Oreo crumbs on it, so that made up for its lack of Oreo. I got the soft serve in a cup with Oreo and Ube flavor, which was so good. It was a perfect combination of the Oreo and Ube. Not too sweet and the Ube wasn't overpowering. Definitely a must flavor to try. Overall, a very yummy and happy experience!
Stopped in for a cool treat because it's scorching outside. I wasn't really sure what taiyaki was but I wanted to find out. Turns out it's a fish shaped cake/pastry that gets filled with red bean paste or a custard. Looks pretty interesting but I think I'll come back to try. My grandson and I both got a cup of Oreo flavored soft serve. I got Oreo dust on top and he got fruity pebbles on his. It was really yummy for us both. We enjoyed it inside as there was plenty of seating and the a/c was blowing strong. If you stop in the menu is pretty simple and the staff will explain how it works if you have questions. Cashless pay at the register and retrieve your order on the side. You have a few options for the taiyaki like Nutella etc so I'll have to head back to give that a try.
I love somisomi as a sweet treat after a meal! This is located the Koreantown plaza so parking can be difficult especially during the weekend. Somisomi is always packed but the service at this location is very quick. Everything is made fresh from when you order it and you can see them make the orders while you wait. There is also a small seating area at the back to hang out with friends although, the place is very loud.
Love me some somi somi. The food is always hitting the spot and ice cream is sooo creamy and smooth. They always get busy (especially on the weekend) but the staff do a great job of organizing orders and making sure people get their food in a timely manner. Tons of casual seating inside and outside to enjoy as well as shops in the complex to walk around afterwards. 10/10 must try!
Honestly, I love this place way more than I expected to. I used to think it was just a gimmick, but it's actually such a fun experience. The ambiance is clean and minimal, but it can get packed fast. Even with a long line, service was crazy quick -- I barely finished ordering at the self-checkout before they were already calling my name. The ice cream itself? So good. I loved all the filling options, the fish-shaped waffle cone was great, and the custard filling was easily a highlight. Being able to add a macaron on top plus all the free toppings just makes the whole thing even more fun. The price is a little iffy, but as a treat? Totally worth it.
Need a something to cool you off during the hot summers? This place brings tasty Japanese treats and flavorful matcha soft serve together as a great paring. Ordering is pretty simple, you can either order via kiosk or a staff can help you. They are friendly and they make the taiyaki in front of you, which is always fun to watch. The filling of the Taiyaki is great with Nutella and the crunchy exterior really helps with the texture. The soft-serve matcha was great, it really had the matcha flavor and sweetness I like. You can get it with toppings, we did Oreo which is a favorite of ours. Great for individuals or for sharing. There are seating areas inside and they have self service water available.
A little taste of Hawaii, especially if you love ube I tried ube ice cream for the first time in Hawaii, and I've been chasing that flavor ever since. Somi Somi is the only place I've found stateside that consistently offers ube year-round, and for that alone, it's worth the visit. The ube soft serve is creamy, lightly sweet, and has that distinct nutty, vanilla-like flavor that makes it so unique. Paired with their signature fish-shaped waffle cone, it's a fun and nostalgic dessert that stands out from typical ice cream shops. Portions are generous, and there's a good variety of flavors and fillings if you want to mix things up. Service is usually efficient, though it can feel a bit rushed during peak hours, and the wait can be long when it's busy. Seating is limited, so it's more of a grab-and-go experience. Overall, Somi Somi delivers great flavor and consistency, and it definitely scratches the itch when I'm missing Hawaii. If you're an ube fan--or curious to try it for the first time--this place is absolutely worth checking out.
Stopped at Somi Somi, I chose the "upside down" ube soft serve topped with a taiyaki filled with red bean. This is a really fun combo to enjoy! Featuring a smooth, creamy texture as well as a wonderful combination of sweetness along with earthiness, the ube soft serve was quite a treat. But the real star? The taiyaki! Given its freshly made nature, it featured an exquisitely crispy exterior in addition to a delightfully warm, velvety red bean filling inside. Every bite of smooth soft serve paired exceptionally well, delivering textural and flavorful contrast. The shop's atmosphere had an entirely bright and inviting quality, and the service was consistently quick despite a continual flow of customers. It is definitely something that anyone wanting a really fun dessert should try.

One of my fav dessert places! I'm surprised I haven't written a review here. I go here monthly at least to get my Nutella taiyaki! It's best eaten fresh or within the day. It has a warm crunchy but chewy texture. Almost like a mochi waffle. I love it! It does not reheat well or even air fried or baked. It's best of course when they fill the fish all the way with nutella. I've gotten it a few times where there was no filling in the tail or head. And i don't want to just eat plain waffle. I hope one day they'll have something pandan. Maybe pandan ice cream or the waffle batter. read more
Somisomi is a good spot to stop at! The nutella filled waffle fish was crispy on the outside and soft/fluffy on the inside which was really nice. The ice cream was decent and I wouldn't mind having it again. The interior design of the store was really nice and fun with the mural on their walls and interesting untraditional seating. read more
One huge con that I hope the owner does something about: The order calling. I haven't been in a couple months, but I have been going for a while now and every time the worst thing about this place for the workers and customers alike is trying to hear your name/order number get called. It gets really loud in here and there is a good amount of distance between the front seats/back seats and where the order is called from. Just put a mic&speakers out or order numbers on a TV. I've seen them have to move on to calling the next order bc no one comes up until later. Everyone also tries to crowd the counter area to hear their number (but end up talking making it even harder to hear) and it's overall just an unnecessary mess. Service is nice and food is always yummy. Decor and a decent amount of seats. Would be a lot better with that one change and I'm sure easier on your workers not having to strain their voices for every call. The fact that it's a problem everytime I've gone makes it surprising that nothing has been added to make it better. read more

Went here for the first time with some friends. They serve a Korean dessert known as "Ah-Boong", which is a fish-shaped waffle cone that's filled and topped with soft serve. Fillings come in flavors like taro, Nutella, custard, and red bean. Then you can choose from rotating soft serves like matcha, ube, cookies n cream, milk tea, etc. They also do swirls of their flavors which vary depending on what they decide to mix. I got the upside down ah-boong with taro filling and ube soft serve. The filling was on the sweeter side for me but that was to be expected. The ube and other flavors of soft serve I tried were pretty on point and the texture was perfect. They also sell taiyaki of all sorts of flavors and drinks that come in their custom bottles. I'll have to come back again to try the other flavors and items on the menu. read more
I love taiyaki, so I was super excited to see this place open up! The menu is very straight forward and you can order on a tablet or at a register. They use the same system as Moge tea across the way, so I already had a text thread telling me when to pick up my order. These suckers are hot and fresh when you pick them up - so make sure to wait a second before eating. The filling is completely molten if you don't - so learn from our mistake please!! Loved the texture of the taro. It was not too sweet and not grainy, which is where a lot of other places get it wrong. read more

Fun place to get desert after going to one of many restaurants around it. The ice cream with fish on top, or bottom, is perfect size to share with your significant other; or if you're with friends you can share a bundle of taiyaki. The taiyaki is available with a variety of fillings; you're bound to like one of them. read more

Yummm!! This place is a hidden gem. If you're looking for creamy, delicious ice cream, look no further! So far I've had the milk flavor and horchata flavor. Both are great. The star of the show is the waffle cone. Typically i'm a classic ice cream in a cup type of person. But this cone is so good, I have to get it! They give you the option to add things In the cone, I usually get custard. They make the cone when you order so it's nice and warm when you get it. It's usually pretty busy so expect to stand in a line if you're going on the weekend. The lines move pretty quickly. You have to try this place if you're an ice cream or gelato lover! read more

SomiSomi is always a win and if there's a location while I'm on vacation, I will be making a stop. This is hands down one of the best soft served ice cream I have had. Luckily for us on this day, Ube was a flavor and I had to get it. Ube tastes delicious. It's thick and creamy but soft for ice cream. And like most Asian compliments on desserts, it's not too sweet. This place can get packed because it is located near a bunch of restaurants so it's a nice place to come for dessert. They also add a nice little macaroon. And I love adding fruity pebbles for any of my toppings. read more

I love SomiSomi and their rotating flavors. It can get pretty busy in the evening but they're working quickly to get orders coming through. I always get the upside down Ah boong with whatever swirl mix sounds good to me. I love a lot of their flavors, my favorite so far is the seasonal cookie butter. The ah boong is nice and warm, a little crunchy and balances well with the creamy, cold soft serve. I always check the swirl flavors on their Instagram whenever I'm craving and they've never disappointed me. read more

Somisomi brings an Asian twist to an American classic soft-serve ice cream and makes it feel like you're having it for the first time again. The biggest Asian heavy hitting flavors combined into one is an epic blend but swirl combos are in rotation so check in with the store to make sure they have the one you're looking for. The ice cream is housed in my favorite vessel, the taiyaki cone, a fish shaped cone that has a slight crunchy exterior and is soft and fluffy on the inside. You have many topping options to choose from so go with your tummy! It was my first time there but the staff were very patient and helpful as I struggled choosing my flavors and toppings! Great ice cream and taiyaki as always! Taiyaki is freshly made which is why it takes a while, but I still haven't waited long for my order even on busy days. This time I got the milk tea and matcha swirl with custard filling taiyaki. The slightly bitter matcha balances out the sweet milk tea ice cream and custard really well! read more
The buttery-cookie-sweet aromas alone will send you into a delicious dream! Ahhhh! We popped in for some dessert and we left with a giant smile on our faces. Kind people, great simple menu, flavors are so delectable and it's a fun spot to enjoy in the heat of the summer. I loved the oooeeeey-goooey Nutella filled fish cookie. You can pick your flavors and toppings. I chose the cookies and cream ice cream with a Nutella filling. The warm Nutella with the cold ice cream- yummmmmm! Go check them out. Great spot. read more
SomiSomi is a delightful desert shop that specializes in ice cream and taiyaki. They seem to offer a weekly rotation of 6 flavors and offer 3 swirl options that are a combination of those weekly flavors. You can see what six flavors are available for a location by viewing the swirl options for the week on their social media (I search it up on instagram). I'd recommend the upside down cup which caps your ice cream with taiyaki versus having to manage manage eating from a cone. They have several choices of toppings and I was able to choose between a macaron or strawberry as well. You can also customize the filling flavor and amount of the taiyaki which is a nice touch as well. The ice cream and taiyaki are both delicious and I can't wait to have an excuse to go back to try it again. The only real downside is if you have your heart set on a certain flavor you might need to wait a bit for the rotation. I find the rotating menu a fun forcing function to try new flavors I might not otherwise though. read more

Pure deliciousness! You've got just the perfect amount of sweetness in each bite! I recommend the ube ice cream its chefs kiss! My favorite Taiyaki is the Oreo but all of them are yummy. The staff is incredibly sweet and fast as well. The place is also really clean. I love the minimalist/futuristic looking seating. This place is also kid-friendly. read more

Looking for the best soft serve of your life? Welcome to SomiSomi. As soon as you walk in, you'll smell freshly made waffle cones in the shape of a fish (taiyaki). Don't be intimidated by the line, it moves fast! You can have your soft serve served in multiple ways: in a cup (no waffle), in a taiyaki, or in a cup with a taiyaki on top (upside down). You choose the flavor of your choice: Milk, Matcha, Ube, Black Sesame and more. Next, choose the filling you'd like in your taiyaki: nutella, red bean, taro or custard. Last, have fun with your toppings, nothing too extravagant here: oreo crumbs, fruity pebbles, etc. I love that Asian desserts are not too sweet, which SomiSomi entirely encompasses. OMG, I am hooked! Their ice-cream is sooo creamy and smooth. On our recent visit in TX, we went for SomiSomi twice in one day! We got the Matcha cone and Ube in a cup after lunch in Carrollton location. Then after dinner, we went to Frisco location and tried the Pink Guava and Cookie n Cream flavor. All 4 different flavors were so good. I am always a fan on Matcha & Ube, but the Pink Guava flavor is definitely winning my heart as well. read more

Absolute blasphemy. Had just came from Wednesday service in hopes of getting a sweet treat with my family. And had waited over 15 minutes. Everyone got called before us, even though we ordered first. We watched as they attended everyone but us. And when confronted we were told the order must've gotten "lost". They got us our ice cream, which mind you was just a 2 item order, without so much as an apology. Won't be coming here again, God bless #Christian #badservice read more

I've never been a fan of these fish shaped pastries, but I must say that I'm glad we stopped by Somi Somi. Eating these desserts hot and fresh is a huge difference maker. They offer many different fillings such as custard, nutella, red bean, cream cheese, and taro. I'm pretty sure we've tried close to every one of them and everything was very good. I would highly recommend giving this place a shot if you have one located close to you and make sure you eat it right after it's done being prepared. read more
I've been here a couple times and it's pretty good! I always like the custard taiyaki, but last time I went I got the milk tea soft serve. It was pretty good, but I liked the Ube and milk swirl flavor a bit more, as you couldn't really taste the tea flavor. Overall cute place with good food, super efficient since you order and pay on an iPad and just pick it up! read more

After a long week we decided to visit a place that is famous for serving fish & ice cream I repeat Fish & Ice cream not Fish & chips! Somi somi is a Korean ice cream place which is newly opened in Carrollton! They have some very unique flavors like ube, sesame, milk, milk tea, matcha.. and they rotate flavors weekly to give everyone a taste of something new!! We had oreo soft serve with upside down taiyaki - which is a waffle shaped like a fish with the choice of your filling!! Being chocolate lovers, we got nutella filling, but they also have cheddar, custards, red bean paste fillings.. Also, you could add a variety of toppings including fruity pebbles, nuts, oreo crumbs, choco pebbles.. and also choose between a strawberry or a macaron.. The ice cream was refreshing but the best part was having the taiyaki!! It was freshly made and tasted amazing!! A must try for all ice cream lovers!! P.s they are following all the guidelines provided by the State to prevent the spread of COVID but they had a full house, so make sure you wear a mask and follow social distancing! read more

We came on a Saturday night and it was packed, but the staff worked quickly! It smelled like delicious baked goods and sweets. We accidentally received the wrong filling but the staff were kind to change it for us. Would definitely come back! read more
This is the second location of SomiSomi that I've tried and it definitely does not disappoint! Once inside, you can order on the kiosk and it took them less than ten minutes to make 6 servings of soft serve and 10 taiyakis. I ordered the ube and milktea swirl with nutella, which tasted amazing! The flavors aren't too sweet either. I definitely want to try all the other flavors, they all sound so good. The little taiyakis were so good too, you have to try all the flavors, but nutella and taro were my favorite. The taiyakis are chewy and not too sweet. There are some tables and seats inside, but it may become too crowded. There are tables and seats outside along the shops within the plaza as well, which are perfect for a nice day. read more
